00:02Hi Harry, I know a million things must be racing through your mind, but what's your overwhelming reaction after that?
00:08Yeah, disappointed but extremely proud.
00:12Couldn't ask of much more as a captain to be honest.
00:14I think we've had an amazing campaign and I said the other day that we're never out of games
00:19and that's proven again tonight that we were in the game all the way until the last over.
00:25Yeah, I'm just extremely proud of the boys and all the boys should be extremely proud of themselves as well.
00:30Jacob was awesome, obviously he took the headlines tonight.
00:33I mean, not for the first time this winter, do England really have a gem on their hands there?
00:37Yeah, absolutely. He's a phenomenal player as we've seen tonight in a high pressure situation against India on the home
00:43turf as well.
00:44The way that he played that innings there was just phenomenal and again, he should be extremely proud of what
00:49he's done tonight
00:51and this whole winter and even into the back end of our summer.
00:54He's been unbelievable. He's going to have a hell of a career with England
00:57and I'm looking forward to hopefully spending a lot of time with him in the future.
01:01And there was a bit of a crossroads moment in India's innings.
01:04Did that drop of Samson sort of play on your mind quite a bit?
01:07Yeah, it catches win matches, don't they?
01:10And unfortunately, it didn't stay in my hands.
01:12And yeah, it's just one of them things.
01:16Unfortunately, I didn't catch it and he played a very, very good innings as well and arguably won them the
01:21game.
01:22Does it linger? Do you keep thinking about it or do you just sort of park it and move on?
01:27Yeah, obviously it's in the back of your mind.
01:28I kept on looking at the scoreboard and he was piling the runs on.
01:32I was like, well, I'm going to have to get 89 tonight.
01:35Yeah, it's not ideal, but yeah, it's happened now.
01:39And just lastly, your first tournament in the books.
01:41I think you obviously touched on it a little bit earlier saying you were proud,
01:43but how do you reflect on the tournament?
01:46Yeah, I think, like I said, we haven't been out of any game in this competition all the way until
01:51the last over.
01:52And yeah, I'm extremely proud of the way that the boys have stuck to their guns.
01:59They've done everything that I've asked of them.
02:01Me and Baz have asked of them and the coaches.
02:02And yeah, we've been a hard team to beat, even in them tough situations.
02:07And we have, unfortunately, not one tonight.
02:11But again, we should be extremely proud of the way that we've almost chased down 250 on their home turf
02:16with them knowing the best plans throughout the comp.
02:21Simon, go ahead.
02:23It's the most runs England's ever conceded in a T20 and the most India have as well.
02:27But can you just talk me through your thinking and your decision making as you were trying to stem the
02:33flow?
02:34Yeah, it's tough.
02:35They just have batsmen coming out of everywhere.
02:40Yeah, they've got some extremely good players.
02:42They're clean ball strikers.
02:44If you miss, you're going for six or four.
02:46And unfortunately, we didn't probably execute as well as we could have done tonight.
02:50And that's cost us slightly.
02:53And alongside with some drop catches in there as well.
02:57And yeah, like I said before, I'm just extremely proud of the way that the boys have played this competition.
03:03I think you said yesterday that you've got a team that doesn't ever know that they're beaten.
03:08I think when you came out to start your innings today, the win predictors had England a single-figure percentage
03:14chance of winning.
03:14But your team never accepted that and stayed in it all the way through to, I guess, the 17th, 18th
03:21over.
03:22Does that make you, I mean, how does that make you feel?
03:25Yeah, again, extremely proud.
03:28They've done everything that we've asked of them.
03:30They've fought their arses off.
03:32And we've been in the game until the very last ball almost every game.
03:37And yeah, we've got some extremely good players in there.
03:42Some extremely tough characters as well to play some of the innings that we have done in this competition
03:48and deliver some of the overs that we have done as well.
03:51And yeah, we've had a very good campaign.
03:54And unfortunately, it's not paid off tonight.
04:00Harry, you'll be aware of the talk about Brendan's position coming into this tournament after what happened in Australia.
04:05Did that performance in the second half of that match show that you're still playing for him?
04:09Did what, sorry?
04:10Did the performance in the second half of the match there in the chairs show how much you're still playing
04:14for him as a coach?
04:16Yeah, I've said plenty of times he's the best coach I've ever had, best head coach I've ever had.
04:20The way that he speaks to everybody, the way that he has.
04:23He's got an aura in the dressing room.
04:25Everybody looks up to him.
04:26And the things that he did in the game as a player was unbelievable.
04:29And he's just carried that into his coaching.
04:32The things that he's done over the four years that he's took over has changed English cricket, hopefully, for the
04:39best.
04:40And yeah, like I said, he's the best head coach I've ever had.
04:44If the ECB Chiefs people above you asked for your opinion on whether he would stay, whether he should stay,
04:50what would you say?
04:51Yeah, 125%.
04:54We've got Vijay, please, at the back.
04:57And then Krikim for at the back as well.
04:59Take about four more after this.
05:00Go on, Vijay, please.
05:03Harry, can you please reflect on your wicket, the ball and the catch?
05:08And in the final analysis, 1-4-33 by Boombra, how much was the impact on the final outcome?
05:16Yeah, he's a very good bowler.
05:19Arguably the best of all time at the minute.
05:22And yeah, he's been a very good bowler for a long time.
05:26The Indians fielded extremely well.
05:29That catch is arguably one of the best catches I've seen as well.
05:32So yeah, hats off to them.
05:36Back of the room, please.
05:38Back and left for us.
05:40Then we'll go to Simon, and then we'll do two down here to finish off.
05:43Go ahead.
05:45Harry, in the end, Jacob brought it to one stroke, just one six in the end, nearly that.
05:52Can you talk about you've played similar innings in your career?
05:55What happens in a T20 and the pressure keeps building up, and you still are in that zone as a
06:01batter?
06:02And can you relate that to what Bethel did today?
06:06Yeah, he was in his own bubble, and it's an amazing feeling.
06:11You feel like he could hit nearly every ball for six, and it was one of them innings tonight that
06:14he's pulled off,
06:16and it was a ridiculous knock.
06:18And like I said before, he should be extremely proud of what he's done tonight and this winter.
06:22He's been phenomenal, and he's going to be a very good player for England in the long run.
06:28Simon, I want to hear an official.
06:30Go ahead, Simon.
06:31T20 in cricket is very difficult tactically for a captain, I think.
06:36You haven't much time to think.
06:38How do you think you've done in this tournament as a tactician,
06:41and how much has Baz put into the tactics that you've gone into the field with?
06:46How much of is it you and how much of him?
06:49I feel like I've done fairly well, to be honest.
06:50I'm quite an instinct captain.
06:53I make decisions on the field, and we've been getting a lot of messages from Baz off the field as
06:57well,
06:57and our partnership's been good throughout this competition,
07:00and since I've taken over, and yeah, we got on very well,
07:05and like I said, the communication throughout the competition
07:09and before this competition has been outstanding, and long may it continue.
07:17Harry, hard luck today.
07:18Just wanted to know one area and aspect which you guys have done well tonight
07:22is this against the Indian spinners.
07:24Seven overs, 99 for two wickets.
07:26It's a pretty good job, I believe.
07:29So could you please throw a little bit of light about the planning you did
07:32against the Indian spinners, like most of your batters playing Barun Chakraborty,
07:36mostly on the backcourt.
07:37So if you can just tell a little bit about the planning you did against the Indian spinners.
07:41Yeah, it's funny, because every time we get asked about spinners,
07:44you're usually slagging us off, so it's nice to have a compliment about it for once.
07:48But yeah, we identified that Chakraborty's miss is probably short,
07:53and Beto put him away early on, and as every bowler does,
07:58he tried to go a bit fuller, and he hit him for six back over his head,
08:01and I think it's just the cricket smarts and just trying to figure out
08:06what their bowling attack's trying to do, and the match-ups as well.
08:09So if you're facing a left-arm spinner as a left-handed batter,
08:12that's your match-up, but you've got to try and take that over big.
08:17I know T20 cricket is all about batting,
08:20but when you get such a belter of surfaces and bowlers are reduced to mere bowling machines,
08:25as a captain, how hard is it to manage the bowlers, manage situations?
08:30Because at the end, again, today the margin was seven runs in a 250-run chase.
08:35Yeah, it's tough, and when the opposition are going the way that they were,
08:39they were playing extremely well, and like I said before,
08:42we've mis-executed and the ball's going out of the park,
08:45and you've just got to try and take your time.
08:47I know that T20 cricket's a quick game,
08:49but you've got to try and make the most of the time that you've got
08:52to settle your nerves or try and stay as calm as possible at the top of your mark,
08:57and you've got to be really all-in with whatever delivery you're trying to bowl that ball.
09:04Okay, we're done. Thank you, everyone.
09:06Cheers.
