00:00We had a very compressed design time. I joined in early March, very early March. We didn't get a
00:07model in the mid-tunnel until late April so that gave us a very short time.
00:13We decided to follow a single philosophy, that's what we've pursued and the car you see before you
00:22is the result of that philosophy. The difference between a power unit that's supplied to you
00:30and being a full works team is many and particularly with this huge integration of the power unit
00:37into the chassis then it allows us to work with Honda in particular to look at the packaging shape,
00:47that means the external shape of the power unit that best suits what we're trying to achieve both
00:53aerodynamically and from a mechanical packaging point of view. That's the opportunity that's
00:59very attractive to us. It's really been about trying to understand the regulations and
01:06what the best solutions to minimize lap time loss, which is of course what we're all here for,
01:14is and that's been really sitting back thinking about them. When I started I kind of felt this was
01:22the right route. I'm glad to say that all the other engineers, aerodynamics etc that I started to work
01:30with from early March were completely bought into that and were supportive of it and that's what we've
01:36been doing from then until now. This integration of the power unit is absolutely key into the chassis and that
01:47means the integration of Honda with the fuel and lubricant supplier Aramco and Valvoline of course
01:55and then how we all as a triangle work together. We're very late getting running, we only really ran for
02:05a day or so of the three days that we were allowed to in the Barcelona pre-test. I uncovered
02:12a lot of
02:13initial teething problems with the car in terms of both our side and Honda's side.
02:23So really the objective of this first Bahrain test will be to try to just get mileage on the car
02:28and
02:29understand what we've got and hopefully start to get some long runs in. Seeing the car roll out in
02:35plain black carbon in Barcelona was actually a much more emotional moment than I expected. Lawrence was
02:43standing next to me and I think we almost both of us had a bit of a tear in the
02:47eye just seeing that car
02:48because it's been such a lot of passion and pressure and condensed cycle and commitment from
02:53Lawrence of course. His commitment to the project and to Aston Martin has been absolutely stellar. So
03:01for us it was a very proud moment but it was a black car. To now see it as it
03:10will be
03:10racing through the season will be another step again.
