00:00Your health tracker could actually be making your sleep worse.
00:02Wearables like Oura Rings, Fitbits, and Whoops can help people recognize patterns
00:06and motivate them to make healthier choices, like going to bed earlier or practicing good sleep hygiene.
00:11But for some, that data can make them more stressed about sleep.
00:14It can even lead to something called orthosomnia,
00:16a preoccupation with perfecting sleep that can lead to anxiety and impact your quality of life.
00:21Leah Martin here, for example, got so obsessed with chasing a high sleep score
00:24that it became detrimental and she had to give up tracking altogether.
00:27Or Cindy Ann, who was so protective of her score that she found herself selectively wearing her ring on good
00:32nights
00:32and not wearing it on nights when she knew she was going to be out late.
00:35On the flip side, she'd sometimes skip social plans to maintain her sleep score.
00:39So does that mean you shouldn't wear wearable?
00:41Maybe if you find yourself becoming obsessive.
00:43But experts say the key is to treat your data as a reference point, not the be-all end-all.
00:47You should also just probably listen to your biological cues.
