00:00French President Emmanuel Macron accepted the resignation of Laurence Descartes from her post as director of the Louvre Museum following
00:08months of controversy.
00:10Descartes came under harsh criticism after the iconic museum suffered a stunning, embarrassing and daring daylight robbery back in October.
00:19Thieves stole jewels displayed in the museum worth an estimated 88 million euros in a heist that lasted barely eight
00:27minutes,
00:27highlighting serious security lapses and shocking the world.
00:31Following the heist, the car was again in hot water after the museum announced it had suffered a serious water
00:38damage in November.
00:39The Louvre said that three to four hundred books and documents were damaged in the Egyptian department's library.
00:45A subsequent leak in February also damaged a 19th century ceiling painting,
00:50adding to the former museum chief's growing list of failures in a short time span.
00:55In February, the museum was once again caught in the headlines after it was revealed that it had been the
01:01victim of a decade-long fraud scheme amounting to almost 12 million euros in losses.
01:07Still, Macron thanked her for her service and in an announcement via the Élysée Palace hailed her resignation as an
01:15act of responsibility.
01:16He said the world's largest museum needs appeasement and new leadership to carry out major security and modernization projects.
