France's most visited museum, the Louvre, will remain closed on Monday (Oct 20), said a spokesperson following a shocking jewel heist the day before.

The museum's website had said it would open late on Monday morning and several rooms would remain closed.

Thieves broke into the museum using a crane to smash an upstairs window, then stealing eight crown jewels from a gallery before escaping on motorcycles.

00:00There were, in total, 9 objects who were targeted by the Malfaiteurs, and 8 were actually
00:28destroyed by the Réjean 140 carats, considered by Louis XV, considered as the most beautiful
00:33diamond of the world, in this building, it has not been destroyed.
00:37The vitrine that contained this diamond has not been attacked by the Malfaiteurs.
00:42So it's a command by a collector, in which case, if we identify this collector and
00:47this commanditaire, we will find the bijoux in state.
00:51So, as we can see in different occasions, it's a command by people who have
00:56repressed these bijoux, that's because of stones, pearls, and objects,
01:05the rare metals that they were composed.
01:07It doesn't happen a lot.
01:08I think, like, it's my first time in Paris, so I can't really tell how often it happens,
01:11but when it happens, it's like, only happens in books.
01:14It's like a common topic, topic in books and movies, like, the Louvre was robbed, yeah.
01:20We were just ready to go in to see the Mona Lisa, when they swept us out of the gallery,
01:27swept us down the stairs by the Winged Victory.
01:30Then we were headed out, the exit, we didn't realize the whole museum was being evacuated.
01:35And then we asked a guard, and the guard said, we're having technical difficulties.
01:41And we went right past the Apollo Gallery, onto the level with the Italian paintings,
01:47and then another round of technical difficulties, and then off we went back the way we had come
01:53in, past the same galleries, and then back down the stairs.
01:57Well, when you rob the Louvre, that's a big deal to all of France, so I knew something was
02:04up because of the way they swept the whole museum.
02:06Well, the agents of the Louvre, whom I am, are both very sad and very angry
02:13of what's happening today, because of course it's our job to protect this building,
02:19this institution, the collections that they have built and the public that they visit.
02:23And in fact, today, it's not been protected like we would have wanted.
02:31The alerts are launched for months and months by the whole personnel of security and security
02:37to indicate the failles and the problems we were confronted daily.
02:42And in fact, the director has absolutely not heard all of these alerts.
02:46And today, what we were afraid of is proven,
02:49to be a pillage and a saccage.
03:01It's going to be a pillage and a pandemic.
03:15It's also going to be a pillage and a simple process that they have come together.
