00:00The International Criminal Court or ICC has begun the confirmation of charges hearing for former President Rodrigo Duterte over alleged
00:08crimes against humanity.
00:09In the opening statement of the illegal representatives of Darguar, victims focused over their disappointment over the decision to approve
00:16Duterte's absence after waiving his right to appear.
00:20ICC prosecutors outlined allegations against the former president covering crimes allegedly committed between 2011 to 2016, the period to which
00:31the Philippines was still a member of the ICC.
00:34The prosecution alleges that Duterte is criminally responsible for murders and attempted murders in clearance operations in Barangays across the
00:42country during his time as mayor of Davao City and also during his presidency.
00:47The prosecutors used Duterte's own public statements regarding Oplan Tokhang as part of the evidence submitted in the hearing.
00:56In defense, Duterte's legal counsel, attorney Nicholas Kaufman argued that the former president's statements are merely hyperbolic.
