00:00If you've ever felt out of breath during a workout, I'd say congratulations and good for you for putting the
00:05effort in.
00:06But if you've ever wondered why it comes on so quickly and worried it might be asthma related, you're not
00:12the first.
00:12Dr. Paul O'Connell, general practitioner from Wales, explains,
00:16When we exercise, our bodies require more air and oxygen and this requires the lungs to work harder.
00:22If your airways are inflamed and narrow, then getting air into them is hard.
00:26No need to jump to conclusions, but if you're not sure whether asthma is the cause for your frustration,
00:31it's definitely worth checking in with your doctor to identify it.
00:34Sophie Vanguard, a pulmonologist and medical editor for GoodRx, says,
00:39Sometimes people who get asthma symptoms while exercising get diagnosed with EIB, which is exercise-induced asthma, and need to
00:47be tested.
00:47But having asthma doesn't mean you can't work out.
00:50According to HuffPost, doctors advise talking to your doctor about it, quitting smoking, avoiding any asthma triggers you may have,
00:57such as cold air, pollens, or dust.
01:00Be mindful of when and where you work out, and build up your workout intensity as well as your lung
01:05capacity over time.
01:07Happy exercising, everyone.
01:09Never give up on your goals.
