00:00I definitely don't feel like myself anymore.
00:02I'm a whole new person.
00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:05And today, we're counting down the America's Next Top Model
00:09makeovers that understood the assignment,
00:11and the ones that very clearly did not.
00:14You're the hottest Peter Pan ever.
00:17Number 75, best, Megan's Light Switch Glow Up, Cycle 7.
00:23Who knew changing the color of your pixie cut
00:25could take you from baby face to Bond girl?
00:27I look like a stranger.
00:31I've always wanted you to have, like, white blonde hair.
00:33No, it's white.
00:34It's white.
00:35Megan's hair was already super short,
00:37so there was hardly much scope to play around with length for her makeover.
00:41Tyra decided to switch up the color and turn her into a blondie.
00:45J-Emmanuel couldn't stop gushing over how her eyes looked with this new hair,
00:49and the model herself was satisfied.
00:52It was amazing having Frederic Frickeye work on us.
00:55He cut my hair in, like, two minutes.
00:56And I was like, wow, it looks perfect.
00:58It's a pity that she was eliminated that week,
01:00but in her defense, she had to wear a wig for the shoot that sent her home.
01:04So she couldn't use her freshly lightened hair to her advantage.
01:08I am surprised that, like, I went this early,
01:10because I thought I was gonna last longer than that.
01:13But in modeling, you're not given very many opportunities.
01:17I wish I was more myself up there in front of the judges,
01:20and, you know, maybe I could have shown a little more character.
01:24Number 74, Brandi's Big Chop, Cycle 4.
01:28This Cycle 4 diva was excited to find out that her assigned makeover would allow her
01:33to get rid of her signature red afro.
01:42Brandi Rusher's hair was cut extremely short, and the color was toned down to a lighter shade of red.
01:48At first, she welcomed the change with open arms.
01:52However, when she had to bleach her eyebrows so they matched her new hair,
01:55Rusher became concerned about how her then-boyfriend would react to her look.
02:00I'm gonna go back to my boyfriend.
02:02He not gonna want me no more.
02:03Woo!
02:04Whoa!
02:05Tyra later called the model out for being difficult when she ended up in the bottom two in episode two.
02:10Though she survived that elimination, she didn't make it far in the competition.
02:14Oh, you're just leaving off the other part just like a little girl in front of her mama.
02:18Wait, wait, wait, wait.
02:19You were very negative about eyebrows being bleached, saying that you looked crazy.
02:24Number 73, Best, Foes Edgy Haircut, Cycle 12.
02:30I see all these girls getting gorgeous hair, and I'm starting to feel like the competition looks a lot better
02:36than I do.
02:37Usually, when Banks comes across models who are conventionally gorgeous,
02:41her first instinct is to give them some grit with their makeovers.
02:44That was her plan with Fo, who was a bit too cute for Tyra's liking.
02:48So she not only ordered a pixie cut for her, but also added baby bangs to the mix,
02:52giving her look an editorial twist.
02:55V5, Fo.
02:57Oh my God!
02:59I definitely was not expecting it at all.
03:02I'm the type of person that I just need time to feel used to it in my own skin.
03:07To viewers, this change was exactly what she needed, but Fo had a hard time coming around to it.
03:12She broke down in tears, and it got on photographer Nigel Barker's nerves.
03:16We don't blame her, though.
03:18Such a radical transformation must have been unnerving.
03:21I have to hide my hair to feel pretty.
03:24This is what's gonna break me in this competition.
03:28Number 72, Worst, JL's Last Minute Pixie, Cycle 8.
03:33In the late model's own words, this makeover left her traumatized.
03:37JL, so we're gonna take your hair long and down to here, but you're not gonna be a blonde anymore.
03:46You're going to be a brunette.
03:47Originally, JL Strauss was set to transform from a blonde beauty to a long-haired brunette.
03:53For that, she spent eight hours in the salon chair, getting a weave installed.
03:57It was a painful process, but halfway down the line,
04:01J Manuel decided a pixie cut would be more suitable for her.
04:05It's not taking you to that elevated look that the other girls are going to.
04:09Like, they're all starting to turn into kind of models.
04:11It's kind of bringing you down a little.
04:12As the hairdresser started removing the weave, JL broke down in tears.
04:17Ultimately, she accepted her Rosemary's Baby-inspired pixie,
04:20and Mr. J hyped her up. Still, the look wasn't exactly a showstopper.
04:25Your face looks absolutely amazing, and I understand the tears for a minute.
04:30So decide whether or not you want to own it.
04:32I'm gonna own this.
04:33Number 71, Best, Erin's Unbelievable Transformation, Cycle 13.
04:39Tyra did a fantastic job reinventing this queen's look.
04:43Normally, Erin, I would say that is so vacant.
04:45It looks like a deer caught in headlights, but with your bleached brow, the bleached hair, it works.
04:50While Erin was always charming, her simple and pretty style before the makeover didn't hold
04:55a candle to her striking aura after. Banks picked ice-blonde hair and bleached brows for her,
05:02which instantly drew attention to her stunning eyes, full lips, and sharp bone structure.
05:07It was a real shock to see all this platinum on my face, but I feel a lot more high
05:13fashion.
05:13The aesthetic was dramatic and fierce, but also made her appear otherworldly.
05:17It amplified her screen presence, helped her stand out effortlessly, and made her unforgettable.
05:23In other words, she fully stepped into her power as a baddie, and we loved to see it.
05:28Erin made it work, she made it look dynamic, and she looked like this magical elf in the air.
05:34Good! Oh, I love it, she's still going.
05:37Number 70, Worst, Ivana's Chop, Cycle 24.
05:41From a bright, charismatic personality to the glums, this model's haircut shifted her energy for the worse.
05:48In the 24th season of ANTM, Ivana Thomas' personality was defined by her independence and intellect.
05:55Shoot, you cannot cry.
05:57I'm not sad, I'm just thinking about how it took me a lot to wear my natural hair and stuff
06:01like that.
06:01When it was time for makeovers, Tyra decided a short look would be best for Ivana.
06:06Sitting in the stylist's chair, she was unable to hold back the tears, bracing herself for the change.
06:12If I'm going to have this hair, I have to learn how to be beautiful in a non-conventional way.
06:18Unable to own it, it cost her her place in the competition.
06:21Panelist Drew Elliott told her after the elimination that embracing full confidence in herself was the
06:27best way for her to up her modeling game.
06:30Even your energy now, it just feels like you're a little deflated.
06:36Number 69, Best, Alaysia's Voluminous Glow Up, Cycle 14.
06:42Speaking of divas, Ballard was also a participant in some major drama among the contestants,
06:48including getting into a screaming match early on.
06:50Things got tense when, in episode 3, Ballard was called out for wearing a swimsuit.
06:55If you went to a go-see or casting dress like this…
06:59I would say, how did she get in here?
07:00Yeah.
07:01Like, how did you find out about this?
07:02But one thing that she had going for her was a strong impression.
07:06Ballard's initial look with her sweet, conventional straight hair gave way to a big,
07:10volume mane that better expressed her bold personality.
07:14She pulled that wig off at casting, and we were like, oh my god, all this hair?
07:18So we're just going to give her some body and some curl and give her some clip-ins
07:22that she can clip in and out at photo shoots.
07:23Look at this volume.
07:26Catch the brows.
07:27Can I touch it?
07:28Yeah.
07:28I am absolutely in love with it. I love how it's so bouncy and sophisticated.
07:35It's a dramatic departure from her clean-cut look that works especially well. She was the
07:40first eliminated in New Zealand, unfortunately, but her look is something we won't forget in a hurry.
07:45I'm an amateur, you know what I mean? I'm an amateur. Like, I did not know anything about
07:49the fashion industry, and I made it this far. You know, so I'm happy with myself.
07:52Number 68.
07:54Worst. Alina's Big Red Weave. Cycle 11.
07:58I'm so scared.
07:59You know it's a little bit worrying when J-Manual's comforting you by letting you know that your
08:04natural hair is still accessible. Under the new weave, that is.
08:08The great thing is, underneath all this, it's there. You just don't want to let it go.
08:13Starting the show with lustrous dark locks, Cycle 11's Alina Ivanova was not happy about her makeover.
08:26She hated the thought of losing control and felt like the red curls as prescribed by Tyra
08:31didn't represent her in the way she wanted. While it didn't hold her back from placing
08:36fifth in the competition, you gotta wonder what Tyra was thinking.
08:40I'm not angry that I have this look. It's just, I don't look like myself anymore. And letting go of
08:45that is really hard.
08:47With such a beautiful, versatile model, they could have gone anywhere. And they went to the circus.
08:53Number 67. Best. Celia's Short, Sharp, Stunning Cut. Cycle 12.
08:59We should have some dramatic music.
09:01Celia, the bouncing blonde. Such beautiful hair. But it gets in the way of those gorgeous cheekbones.
09:08There may have been tears involved in this makeover, but when all was said and done,
09:12it left our girl feeling great. Celia had long blonde, albeit lifeless,
09:16hair when she entered the competition. Tyra decreed that she lose the length and flaunt her cheekbones.
09:22The final short blonde look was high fashion coded and Celia was living for it.
09:26Oddly enough, I feel liberated. And I think that'll translate better in photo shoots.
09:31It complimented her unapologetic personality and also allowed fans to look at her in a new light.
09:37In the years that followed, Celia grew out her hair again. And while we loved the ANTM makeover, we have
09:42to admit she was made for the long hair life.
09:45I was really embodying the cover girl look today.
09:48I definitely think I could be a cover girl.
09:51Number 66. Kari's Ice Blonde Weave. Cycle 21.
09:56In Cycle 21, Kari Calhoun was a gorgeous brunette who arguably didn't need a big change.
10:02But when Tyra gets excited, there's no pulling back.
10:05She prescribed a starkly blonde weave and bleached eyebrows, AKA a lot.
10:11When they're transforming Kari, it kind of reminds me of like,
10:14Children of the Corn or something.
10:16As one of her fellow contestants remarked, it was like she was a totally different person.
10:20And Kari herself thought she looked cheap.
10:23Her tears told us that something more fundamental was affected.
10:26You can't deal? You don't like it?
10:28I'm trying.
10:30We're in a business where these things do happen.
10:32Who wouldn't feel lost when their visual identity changes that much?
10:37Kari managed to put on her poker face and gave a fierce photo shoot.
10:41While we all know this is an expected part of the show,
10:44this just didn't feel okay, making it one of the most uncomfortable makeovers yet.
10:48It's just in the dumps.
10:50Kari struggles with her new look.
10:52You know, she feels she looks like a stripper.
10:54She does. But that's okay. I love strippers.
10:57Number 65. Best. Jenna's Beach Blonde Style. Cycle 9.
11:02You wouldn't believe this bookish bronze brunette,
11:05who claimed she got along better with boys, would ever go blonde.
11:08But Tyra Banks' vision reaped good fruit.
11:11Your eyes really pop out.
11:12Going through your film, you took risks and you took chances.
11:16When are you going to be signed? Because I know you're going to be signed.
11:18I'm going to use you.
11:19Ooh, ciao!
11:21Doucette's photo modeling was continually impressive,
11:24and her makeover look wowed the judges, including Tyra Banks herself.
11:28Her makeover, going from page boy bronze to platinum blonde, is absolutely winning,
11:33complimenting the model's strong features. Doucette is no sweet brunette.
11:37I feel like since I look so different that I just like should be different.
11:41I feel like I should just kick all your asses.
11:43Unfortunately, both Salisha Stowers and Chantal Jones attacked her for her personality,
11:48causing her to break down and get eliminated. But her makeover was still among the strongest.
11:53I felt really different while I was here, and I think that there was a lot of pressure,
11:57and I think there was a lot of me that didn't come out.
12:00That was because I was scared, and because this is hard.
12:05Number 64. Worst. Stacey-Ann's feathered faux hawk. Cycle 10.
12:11Wow! Oh my gosh! That is different.
12:17I did not expect this, but I know it brings out my features, so I have no choice. I have
12:25to bring it.
12:26Number 63. Best. Britney's Blonde to Brunette Transformation. Cycle 13.
12:33We're going to edge you out and make your hair darker. Don't be scared, girl. Don't be scared.
12:41Number 62. Worst. Sarah's Shortcut. Cycle 6.
12:46It just didn't seem to fit my personality. I'm already getting more used to it.
12:50But I was not going to be the girl in the salon crying about her new makeover.
12:53Number 61. Best. Molly Sue's Farrow Flip. Cycle 6.
12:58Everything is going to a very updated version of mod. Do you think you could do that?
13:03I could do that.
13:07Number 60. Worst. Christina's Green Dip. Cycle 24.
13:12Less wow and more what, Christina Anderson McDonald's highlighter do left us all wondering what just happened.
13:20Get out of my face and don't speak to me today.
13:23Please shut up!
13:24Coming into the competition as the oldest contestant in her cycle, Christina instantly found life at the shared house with
13:30the other models tricky to say the least.
13:32Yeah, whatever. It doesn't matter. There's still a group of you versus me.
13:36Yeah, and there's all of them versus every single one of us too. You're not the only one that is
13:41an individual here.
13:42She had beef with Brandy K, and when Tyra told her that she should wear makeup, she took it more
13:47to heart than mind.
13:50I feel so punk.
13:53Her makeover, what effectively looked like a dip in green goo, ended up personified in the glower she gave the
13:59camera for that week's shoot.
14:00Compensation, not so much.
14:03Christina.
14:06The best photo sadly speaks less top model and more green-eyed, haired monster.
14:12Number 59. Best. Shandy's Duckling to Diva Transformation. Cycle 2.
14:18Everything just looks so good. Everything's come together and I feel so pretty right now.
14:23Number 58. Worst. Ann's Underwhelming Change. Cycle 15.
14:28I think the new look will definitely help with my modeling potential because it like exaggerated my height, so it
14:34makes me stand out I guess.
14:35Love it!
14:37Number 57. Best. Lulu's Inspiring Look. Cycle 13.
14:43Lulu!
14:44I have hair!
14:45It looks so hot.
14:46It looks good.
14:46Lulu got the best makeover. Her bangs, it just brings out her eyes.
14:51She is competition.
14:53Number 56. Worst. Claire's Bleach Blonde Treatment. Cycle 10.
14:58I wanted to shave my head, so this is good. It's pretty close to having a shaved head, but I
15:03would have never ever thought that I could be a blonde.
15:05Number 55. Best. Amanda's Ice Blonde Hair. Cycle 3.
15:10We all know that styling for models can be more strange than glorious, and as you can tell from
15:16this list, a good chunk of that trophy can be claimed by this very competition.
15:20Amanda stood in front of us and she doesn't change her expression. I was like, okay!
15:25Transformation inside and out. She's a diva now.
15:27As soon as I saw myself in the mirror, I just felt sexier and more powerful.
15:33When Cycle 3's Amanda Swafford came sashaying into top model town, Tyra just couldn't resist.
15:40Her darker locks went full-blown Scandinavian.
15:43I want to inspire people that have disabilities or, you know, shortcomings to just, like, work through it and to
15:52find joy in everything.
15:55The results were definitely striking, and even though her ice-cold blues popped, responses were split.
16:01While she did go on to place his second runner-up, we're still scratching our heads wondering if this fantasy
16:06makeover was more glamorous or Gandalf.
16:08Also, Nigel Barker for saying that, like, no agency is going to, like, sign her for being blind.
16:15He's pissed about that.
16:16Number 54.
16:18Worst.
16:19Sarah's Generic Dew.
16:20Cycle 9.
16:21It's amazing.
16:22It's so fierce, I love it.
16:24Number 53.
16:26Best.
16:26Nick's Covergirl Transformation.
16:28Cycle 5.
16:37It's cool, it's different, and it definitely attracts attention.
16:40Number 52.
16:41Worst.
16:42Wendy's Missing Glam.
16:43Cycle 6.
16:44I'm thinking sweet face.
16:46Jayla.
16:47Driven glam.
16:48Bourbon glam.
16:49I like the hair, and it's easier for me to keep up.
16:52So it made me feel a lot better.
16:55Number 51.
16:56Best.
16:58Leslie's Understated Sexy Slash Simplistic Sexy Chic Makeover.
17:02Cycle 6.
17:03I just wanna, like, swing it around and play with it, and I love it.
17:10Number 50.
17:12Worst.
17:12Brenda's Buzz Cut.
17:13Cycle 14.
17:15Sometimes you need to make a mistake twice.
17:17Flashback to Brenda Arends, a lusciously long redhead from Cycle 14.
17:23My name is Brenda, I'm 23, and I'm from Houston, Texas.
17:26Originally, she seemed a game to embrace her makeover moment.
17:30Are you really gonna shave off my hair?
17:31Maybe, maybe.
17:33You're a model!
17:35But smiles turned to tears as her hairdresser just kept cutting.
17:39Ooh, when she saw them razors, she was like,
17:43but I was like, ooh.
17:45The result?
17:46An 80s-style mohawk that just didn't suit her.
17:49Stylist Sally appeared to come to the rescue at a second session, only to cut shorter, of course.
17:55Meanwhile, Brenda's castmates watched in unsupportive silence.
17:59What do you think?
18:01Very different.
18:02Following her elimination from the show, Brenda played it real,
18:05saying even her first haircut was better than the second.
18:08But what was ultimately soul-destroying is J. Manuel saying he thought she would have gotten
18:13further in the competition had she not been so emotionally attached to her hair.
18:23I think this bald look helps empower me more.
18:27I just have to work a little harder because I don't have any hair to hide behind.
18:33Number 48, best, Gina embracing her beauty, cycle 24.
18:38Like, I can see myself now. I'm a very strong person.
18:42And I've internalized a lot of really rough things, which resulted in me losing my hair.
18:46But losing my hair was a symbol of strength. Like, I didn't know that until now.
18:50Number 47, worst, Renee's aging haircut, cycle 8.
18:55And I'm excited to see what it looks like. And, you know, I'm just gonna have to work with what
18:59I'm getting.
18:59Number 46, best, Eugenia's Rapunzel Long Weave, cycle 7.
19:06But I was pleased with any of them.
19:07God, there's so many good shots. I don't want to miss them.
19:10Number 45, best, Joanna's crowning coif, cycle 2.
19:15This cycle 2 contestant won for good reason.
19:18You started off as the quirky, kind of weird girl.
19:23And you have transformed into this hip, stylish, gorgeous being.
19:31House's initial photos have her shoulder-length, wavy black hair.
19:35Her makeover is a remarkable transformation into an Audrey Hepburn-esque waif.
19:40She's one of my favorite movie stars of all time.
19:42That looks great. Good.
19:44While she won the episode 3 challenge, she also suffered a fall during the music video shoot,
19:49which almost caused her to be eliminated.
19:51She also had major beef with Camille McDonald, although they briefly became friends in episode 8.
19:56I just really think that a lot of times Camille is a very lonely girl.
20:00I think she wants to have friends, but I think she puts a front that she's tough.
20:03Drama aside, House's strong portfolio nabbed her the ANTM crown,
20:08also making her one of the oldest winners on the show. Afterward, she became the face of the CW network
20:14in 2006.
20:15That picture speaks a thousand words. This girl is giving you face.
20:20She can have a helmet on her head and look amazing. She's just an incredible beauty.
20:25Number 44. Worst. Heather's minimal makeover. Cycle 2.
20:30I'm just kind of worried about my hair because I didn't have any kind of change that in the end
20:35they might look at me and say, hey, you haven't had any kind of change. Can you change?
20:39Number 43. Best. Yaya's glamorous glow up. Cycle 3.
20:44I just transformed. So that was a boost of confidence for me.
20:48Number 42. Worst. Lisa's mermaid makeover. Cycle 5.
20:53Seriously, I didn't even think this could look this good.
20:57Number 41. Best. Lisa's cheekbones take the spotlight. Cycle 9.
21:02Exactly what I expected, but I'm glad for something fresh and something new.
21:07Number 40. Worst. Anne's chunky highlights. Cycle 3.
21:12This picture for me, Anne looks like nothing.
21:14Ouch. Harsh words from Judge Nigel Barker in Cycle 3. But let's rewind a little.
21:20What exactly was going on with Anne Markley's highlights? Coming into the show as a sweet brunette,
21:25the judges thought she had one of the best faces, but not enough oomph.
21:29Your face? Flawless, but the passion behind it? Zero.
21:33So someone had the bright idea to switch it up a little.
21:36I'm really excited. I've never been blonde before.
21:38I'm interested to see how it'll look. I'm very open-minded about it.
21:41Unfortunately, the results were grossly colored blonde streaks that did nothing for Anne.
21:46Or probably not anyone else. Ever.
21:49Let's be honest. If it had happened at our salon, we'd be leaving a dangerous Yelp review.
21:54Anne went on to finish fourth in her cycle.
21:56Number 39. Worst. Jade's too short cut. Cycle 6.
22:02I don't know why they're leaving my top longer than my side.
22:05Jade, just shut up.
22:08Antonio was like, we're gonna cut this short and leave this high.
22:10Oh great, another like bohawk look.
22:12Number 38. Worst. Michelle's stinging blonde hair. Cycle 4.
22:17Michelle, she's feeling the pain of being a bleach blonde.
22:21Number 37. Best. Carrie D's luscious blonde extensions. Cycle 4.
22:27It's felt so beautiful on the outside. I feel beautiful on the inside. It's kind of all like matched up.
22:33Number 36. Worst. Kim's meh dye job. Cycle 5.
22:39I'm the only person who's been told to stay completely in my personal style.
22:47Number 35. Best. Felicia's bang theory. Cycle 8.
22:52This Tyra Banks lookalike began well as a beautiful ginger with great presence. And of course, poses.
22:58Her second look though is even more striking, converting her into a sultry brunette.
23:03Unfortunately, early on in episode 4, she was eliminated in favor of Dionne Walters.
23:08Fans were left scratching their heads over the decision, especially since the judges loved her photos apart from her fashion
23:15victim one.
23:16First photo shoot strong. Second photo shoot strong. And then the third one was okay.
23:22And then the fourth one was the weakest picture in the bunch.
23:28And the judges start saying, is she falling apart? Can she handle the competition?
23:34Still, it's an inspired makeover, proving that bangs on the right person can really complete their look.
23:40Provost went on to sign on to the elite model management in Chicago, although she is now retired in Hong
23:45Kong.
23:46I am definitely going to keep modeling. That's just something I have to keep doing, no matter what happened here.
23:52Nothing at all is going to keep me from following my dream.
23:55Number 34. Worst. Sarah's bleached eyebrows. Cycle 15.
24:00My son is not even going to recognize me when he sees me. It's going to be crazy.
24:05Like, I feel like she's not taking on the makeover.
24:08Number 33. Best. Liberty's femme fatale flip. Cycle 24.
24:14The red has definitely brought that fire. It took you out of your comfort zone.
24:18Yeah.
24:19Keep bringing that.
24:20Number 32. Worst. When Natalie got nada. Cycle 12.
24:24The real lesson here is you got to trust the people you work with. We're not making decisions for shock
24:30value. Have a nice makeover.
24:32Number 31. Best. Nina Burns' red rain. Cycle 20.
24:37Oh my god!
24:44Number 30. Worst. Jada's pixie cut. Cycle 7.
24:48You said you could cut my hair off. I don't care.
24:51Famous last words of a beautiful model about to lose her locks. And her cool.
24:56Cycle 7's Jada seemed game to dive into whatever change was coming her way.
25:01This is fun.
25:05That is, until the Halle Berry-inspired pixie cut envisioned for her was revealed, bringing on the waterworks.
25:13Okay, that's good.
25:15While we think Jada looked amazing with her new-do, she wasn't convinced that her strong jawline could take it.
25:21The trauma of the process itself made it one of the worst makeover moments to behold.
25:26Whatever.
25:26I just feel so masculine. I feel like I lost my, like, girlish thing going on.
25:33However, we can confirm that Jada's long hair has since returned.
25:36She's still modeling and has a gorgeous family to boot. Iconic breakdown aside, it seems like a very happy ending.
25:44Number 29. Best. McKee's sharp turn. Cycle 11.
25:49McKee, our little rough girl with the red hair. She can have any hair in the world. Let's give her
25:55black short hair.
25:58Number 28. Worst. Ebony's braids. Cycle 5.
26:04Camille, child, you better start taking off the braids right now. The braids are gorgeous, but they are not versatile
26:08enough for fashion modeling.
26:10Number 27. Best. Melrose's bombshell reboot. Cycle 7.
26:15I never knew how big your lips were.
26:17The makeover is sort of just opened you up. You look fresh, young.
26:20Number 26. Worst. Meg's mane. Cycle 7.
26:25I could do more headbanging in this hair than I could the other.
26:29Number 25. Best. Allison's waves of wonder. Cycle 12.
26:34People always comment on your eyes.
26:36Either they say I look like a scary doll, or like a porcelain doll.
26:39You say the bride of Chucky.
26:40Yeah.
26:41Creepy Chan is far from creepy. Although given the moniker by 4chan users, Harvard quickly became a fan favorite.
26:47She entered the competition blending in with a flat brown wab. So it was great to see her transformed with
26:53new platinum blonde waves that lit up her face and emphasized her big blue eyes.
26:58Oh my god.
27:00I feel like a mermaid.
27:02A mermaid?
27:03Yeah.
27:03Okay, it's America's next hot mermaid.
27:05I've always wanted long hair. It's fantastic. I love it.
27:09Harvard had a strong run across the season, especially in its later episodes. Sadly though,
27:14the judges felt she lacked variety in her facial expressions, and she ultimately came in second behind Tiana Anderson.
27:22Harvard did return to the show in Cycle 17, which pleased her fans.
27:26In Crete, there she was, you know, just this extraordinary photograph of her.
27:30Shot by Nigel.
27:30I was on the set of the music video. That game was directing. He fell in love with her.
27:35Those eyes, oh my goodness. Just stunning. So unique.
27:39It's almost Alice in Wonderland.
27:41Number 24, worst. Dominique's Odd Bob. Cycle 10.
27:46Dominique tried so hard, but she didn't have anything at all. Her shoot was terrible.
27:53It just looks like it belongs in a catalog.
27:56Number 23, worst. Ava's Mullet. Cycle 22.
28:01I'm ready to rock it. I feel great in it. It's easy and it's so fun.
28:07Number 22, best. Rio's Edge and Elegance. Cycle 24.
28:13I am so in love. This is what is going to book me for years to come.
28:19Number 21, worst. Anya's Ice Out. Cycle 10.
28:24Look at you, the nymph with the nice blonde hair. I think this is really beautiful.
28:28Thank you. I really like it. It's really like sophisticated, but like playful at the same time.
28:33Your accent is even stranger now with the light hair.
28:35Number 20, worst. Cassandra Jean's Mia Farrow cut. Cycle 5.
28:41One of the most iconic haircuts in cinema has to be Mia Farrow's pixie cut from Rosemary's Baby.
28:46Don't tell me you paid for that.
28:48In theory, it was great style to replicate on a model with such a strong bone structure,
28:53like Cycle 5 contestant Cassandra Jean.
28:56But the Southern beauty pageant queen was devastated over losing her long locks.
29:00I can't play with my hair. When I go to brush my teeth and then I look in the mirror,
29:03it's going to be, it's not going to be pretty.
29:05She went along with the cut and the dye job initially,
29:08but when they wanted to cut another inch off, she absolutely refused,
29:12saying that she didn't want them to change her too much.
29:14You're not ready to cut your hair?
29:15No.
29:16You know, I really don't have time for this today, so you just gotta leave my set.
29:21It seemed like a weird hill to dye on considering most of her hair was gone anyway,
29:25but she stuck to her guns and was sent home.
29:28I have to be myself and I want to walk out of this competition knowing that
29:32I did what I think was right in the long run,
29:35and that includes not letting people try and change the way I am.
29:39Number 19, best. Joanie's polished perfection. Cycle 6.
29:44This finalist's makeover was a study in the art of subtlety.
29:48We're gonna do a little bit more blonde on you and make you a little bit more icy.
29:52The color and extra volume complimented Dodds' strong jawline, and when combined with her
29:57natural talent in front of the camera, the end result packed quite a punch.
30:01I think it looks very high fashion. Your shoulders are wonderful.
30:05The judges praised her photos, and Banks even commented that Dodds could not take a bad picture.
30:10They took issue with her personal presence though, especially compared to her competitors.
30:15In the end, Dodds was runner-up to Daniel Evans. Dodds went on to model for GQ among other magazines,
30:20so it's no great loss.
30:22I would have been so happy if it was me, but I'm okay.
30:27Number 18, worst. Shai's two-toned hair. Cycle 21.
30:32I have multiple personalities! Look!
30:35It's probably not the best idea to make someone look like a terrifying cartoon villain,
30:39but that's exactly what Tyra did with Shai Fan, a Cycle 21 contestant,
30:44who was given two-toned hair, half black and half blonde. Looking like Cruella DeVille herself,
30:53Shai's hair seemed like something that would look cool in an Instagram picture,
30:57but way too out there in real life. It didn't help that the hairstylist even dyed her eyebrows to
31:02match her hair, so it looked as if she only had the black one, since the blonde hairs blended into
31:07her skin. Shai was a good sport about it though, and seemed to embrace it.
31:11Number 17, best. Whitney's Glam Glow Up. Cycle 10.
31:15This finalist became the winner of her cycle for a very good reason.
31:19For one thing, her makeover was sensational.
31:26Beginning with thick dark hair and a 2000s high-waisted top,
31:30Thompson became a glamorous blonde with a bold presence. Despite a rough start,
31:34with the judges deeming her too fake, Thompson soon proved herself by winning three challenges
31:39and receiving her first call-out during the music-themed photo shoot.
31:43Mr. J said that you came to the set and knocked it out of the box and you really embraced
31:47the genre
31:48and took risks that worked. Thompson also got recognition for being the only plus-sized model
31:53to win the competition. The modeling industry may be cruel to plus-sized models, but occasionally
31:58justice is served. I honestly think the girls will look up to me and say,
32:04I could do that, you know? I could be that. I don't have to, you know, starve. I don't have
32:09to
32:09have plastic surgery. I could really be like that. I could be on that billboard. I could be on that
32:13magazine cover. Why? Because I'm beautiful.
32:15Number 16, worst. Laura's Patriotic Makeover. Cycle 18.
32:21You're going to have red, white, and blue hair.
32:26Nothing is ever subtle on reality TV, and many times, people take things too literally. At least,
32:33that's what we assume happened with Cycle 18, British Invasion. In that season, Americans were
32:38pitted against the British to see who would reign supreme. To turn up the patriotism, Laura was given
32:44red and blue streaks on bleached blonde hair to mimic the American flag. The thought process behind it
32:50might have made the tiniest bit of sense, but the chunky streaks looked weird, amateurish,
32:56and definitely did not scream top model. Number 15, best. Corrine's Blonde Ambition. Cycle 5.
33:03Competing at just 19 years old, this contestant had a rough home life, but talent is talent,
33:08and Corrine's transformation on the show is remarkable. When you feel strong, you don't hold
33:12anything back. What's my secret? I'm afraid of heights. Praise the Lord Jesus! I believe the last one,
33:19you are so lucky, girl! She began as a flat-haired, dark brunette with a breezy look. Her makeover
33:25lengthened her hair and gave it more volume. And of course, in typical Banks style,
33:30Wojtel got blonde hair, which complemented her skin tone. I never would have thought blonde
33:35at all, but overall, I like my makeover. The brighter tone definitely helped her stand out.
33:44Unfortunately, her pictures didn't match the new vibe, and Wojtel was eliminated
33:48in season six, with judges deeming her performance too gloomy. Her rivalry with
33:53Lisa D'Amato didn't help matters either. But when she served, she served.
33:57Oh, that's cute. You know, you look a little bit like Tyra Banks to me.
34:02Number 14, worst. Marvita's Horsetail Mullet. Cycle 10.
34:07Poor Marvita did not deserve this. During the Cycle 10 makeovers, Tyra kept the girls in the dark about
34:13what makeover they were getting. Everybody is going to be sitting in a chair, not knowing what
34:17the hell. When Marvita sat down in the hairdresser's chair, she was surprised to see hair extensions
34:23nearby. I was like, okay, I see some weave. Okay, this must not be my table. Only then did Tyra
34:29reveal
34:29in a pre-taped segment that she would be getting a horse mane hair weave, a style Tyra admitted to
34:35making up. Tyra even neighed when she gleefully revealed Marvita's makeover inspiration.
34:40Like a horse. So she's going to be like,
34:43The result was less of a horse mane and more of an 80s hairband mullet. It looked ridiculous,
34:48and not even Marvita's strong features could pull it off.
34:52Number 13, best. Bianca's Buzzworthy Transformation. Cycle 9.
34:57This golden girl deserved better. Not for her clashes and endless drama with the other contestants,
35:02of course. But Golden did luck out in one way. Her makeover was a success with fans,
35:07going from cherry red hair to a buzz cut that gave her features unexpected softness and dimension.
35:13With the shaved head, she's one of the strongest looking girls in a bunch.
35:16Thank God her makeover went wrong. That was the best thing that could have happened to her
35:19because she's stunning. And to think she was initially going to receive blonde extensions.
35:24Golden's hair was already too damaged, however, which landed her with this cut.
35:28You look like a model. Yep. Not like a girl in Queens trying to be a model,
35:33and maybe she has the potential, but a girl that's walking through Queens,
35:37and I'm like, whoa, she's a model. Although she received several call-outs,
35:41she was eventually eliminated in the penultimate episode. Still, Golden returned for the Tyra Banks
35:46show and even modeled for Chris March on Project Runway. I did Fashion Week,
35:50and I'm getting back into it. My agency has been so supportive. What agency are you with?
35:54Major model management. Major model. That's a big agency. Yeah.
35:56All right. They've been so supportive.
35:58Number 12. Worst. Phil's Jesus Extensions. Cycle 20.
36:03When ANTM let men into the contest, it was exciting to see what makeovers they'd give the guys.
36:08But then Phil happened and proved they could make a man look just as awful as they do for some
36:13of the women.
36:13I can't eat and watch Phil. His hair was completely awful.
36:16Tyra wanted to see longer hair on Phil, so he was given very cheap-looking extensions that had people
36:23comparing him to Jesus. They decided they would add hair and go with the Jesus look.
36:27Not good. I am not feeling good about my makeover halfway through.
36:32The straggly hair was distracting and took away from his good looks.
36:36Phil looked more like a Coachella punchline than a model,
36:38so we're glad he later took out the extensions and grew his natural hair out.
36:43Number 11. Best. Samantha's Pixie Power. Cycle 11.
36:47A volleyball and soccer blonde, Potter began the cycle strong, receiving her first call out for
36:53her natural disaster shot and winning two challenges. No doubt her makeover played some part in her
36:59performance. Samantha, looks like any girl walking in a mall with plastic earrings on.
37:05We've got to make her more high fashion. Elevate. Elevate, darling, with short hair.
37:11Her promo photos show her as a striking but typical long-haired blonde with a svelte body,
37:16Simply cutting her hair short, however, utterly transformed her look for good.
37:20Oh my god!
37:22I know that I look really, really fierce. I don't feel like girly girl Sam. I feel like a model.
37:30The modish pixie cut accentuated her features and gave them a unique cast that is no less than
37:36memorable. It's a remarkable transformation. Sure enough, Potter lasted all the way up to the finale,
37:41in which she lost to McKee Sullivan. This whole competition has truly brought out a different
37:47side of me. To tell you the truth, you know, I never saw myself as being like a pretty girl.
37:53I don't ever see myself as a pretty girl.
37:58No, I do.
37:59Number 10. Worst. Salisha's Mushroom Bob. Cycle 9.
38:04High fashion's not gonna come to you. You have to come to high fashion.
38:08Cycle 9 contestant Salisha Stowers is already one of the most controversial ANTM winners out there
38:14because of her previous connection to Tyra before the season started. But the real question is,
38:19how did someone with Dora the Explorer hair make it that far?
38:23Salisha's Mushroom Bob and glorified bowl cut was meant to give the commercial model an edgier look,
38:29but instead it made her appear younger, as if her mom had given her the haircut in the kitchen.
38:34Many compared her to the Beatles gone wrong, and any way you cut it, it was bad. Just bad.
38:40It's gonna take some getting used to, but it really changed my look. Like, I'm not your average girl next
38:46door.
38:47Number 9. Best. Norelle's Shaggy Sophistication. Cycle 3.
38:52You feel like working it, don't you? They're lovely, your teeth.
38:55Today you look like a model.
38:56Norelle, I think your makeup is fabulous. Thank you.
38:59Van Herc made it work. This contestant began with long, dark hair and braces.
39:04Her dramatic makeover removed the wires, deepened her hair color, and cropped it into a shaggy bob,
39:09bringing out her brilliant green eyes and delicate features. What a success.
39:14I feel better now about the competition, about like, how I look.
39:19Hooray! Wow, look how pretty!
39:21Don't you look so much better?
39:22Van Herc also won the first challenge of her makeover episode.
39:25Unfortunately, the judges were not as impressed with her photos across the season.
39:29The secretary look is not working for me.
39:31No, not at all.
39:33That works.
39:33Gorgeous!
39:34That works.
39:35It's almost as if you have to be dressed up in costume to become fierce.
39:38Between an inconsistent portfolio, and Van Herc's struggles navigating Japanese culture,
39:43she would get the axe in episode 11.
39:45Still, she went on to become a successful model in Japan, and even signed onto two modeling companies.
39:50You go, girl.
39:52I'm not giving up.
39:52Like, I'm not doing this, and I'm not crying because, like, I'm sad or anything.
39:55Like, I will be a model.
39:57I will be America's next top model.
39:59I'm okay.
40:00Number 8.
40:01Worst.
40:02Molly's Giant Blonde Weave.
40:04Cycle 16.
40:05There have been some pretty harrowing weave experiences on ANTM, but few, if any,
40:10compare to Molly's unbelievably bad hairdo.
40:13So it'll be new, but I think I can work it.
40:15After assigning big blonde curls to Molly, a weave specialist was brought in to sew it onto her fine
40:21hair.
40:22I'm trying to think of how we could style this some sort of way for the picture,
40:27and then correct it after.
40:28The process of getting her hair done was a tangle of braids, thread, and extensions that looked more
40:33akin to a bird's nest than a high fashion look, and the finished product was not any better.
40:38The added hair had to weigh as much as Molly herself.
40:41The salon owner tried to trim it down, but it was no use.
40:45Molly was understandably upset, and the hair led to a lot of drama until it was redone.
40:50I love the idea of the huge blonde hair, but it was horrible.
40:54So I'm not happy with it whatsoever.
40:57Number 7.
40:58Best.
40:59Kayla's Red Hot Reinvention.
41:01Cycle 15.
41:02One of the few openly LGBTQ plus models at the time, Farrell's start on Cycle 15 was a little
41:08uneven, placing 12th and 2nd in the first two photoshoots respectively.
41:12She entered the competition with a pile of icy blonde curls that the judges couldn't quite see
41:17past.
41:17I'm going to send you out.
41:18I want you to wet your hair and comb it out.
41:20Oh, thank you.
41:21Go on.
41:21You'll come back.
41:22Though a straightened look was an instant improvement,
41:25her makeover guaranteed she would turn heads going forward.
41:28Farrell would receive bangs and a shorter length,
41:30along with a new flaming red color that suited her beautifully.
41:34Personally, I love my hair.
41:35I think that the boldness, the brightness, meshes perfectly with who I am.
41:40Despite some striking pictures, she was eliminated in episode 11,
41:44as the judges thought she had not mastered her facial angles quite yet.
41:48But she returned to All Stars for Cycle 17,
41:50and even did a stint of modeling in Japan before retiring.
41:54This is what's going to take you to the next level.
41:56I don't understand why people cry.
41:58I don't understand why people get upset.
41:59Ooh, yes, I like already.
42:02Number six, worst, Denzel's fake beard, Cycle 21.
42:07For the most part,
42:08the male contestants get pretty tame looks compared to the female contestants.
42:12But Denzel's fake beard made every other makeover pale in comparison.
42:16Let's see how this one looks.
42:17They put a lace front weave on this man's face.
42:20A lace front weave.
42:21Just let that sink in.
42:23It's a lace front.
42:24They put a lace front on my face.
42:25No, you didn't say lace front.
42:27The weave was a completely different texture from his natural hair,
42:30and the contrast showed.
42:32I'm loving myself with a beard.
42:34Like, I like the look.
42:36It looked wholly unnatural, ridiculous, and like it would fall off at any moment.
42:42The makeover was roasted on social media and still lives on in internet infamy.
42:47Number five, best, Britney's Cleopatra chic, Cycle 16.
42:52From the very beginning, this Pennsylvanian model shone with her photos impressing the judges.
42:57If Klein's first look was sleek and smoky, her makeover look gave her a Cleopatra style look
43:03that was absolutely winning.
43:05Yes, working the angle of that hair all the time.
43:07Gorgeous.
43:08Like, I definitely don't feel like myself anymore.
43:10I'm a whole new person.
43:12There were some hiccups, with the judges disliking her fierce roast coffee commercial,
43:16and her clashes with fellow contestants, particularly Alexandria Everett.
43:21She finally competed against Molly O'Connell in the final two.
43:25I'm surprised I'm here.
43:26Oh my gosh, you look so good.
43:30Never would have been like, I'm gonna be a top two in America's Next Top Model.
43:34Coming from a trailer park, who would think it's such a crazy thing?
43:36Although Banks had wanted to eliminate her early on,
43:39most of the judges were in favor of Klein.
43:41She eventually won due to her CoverGirl commercial and print ad.
43:45This girl is a winner, all right.
43:47It doesn't matter where you're from or how you're raised or what you have to go through.
43:51You can do whatever you want, if you just put your mind to it.
43:54I was really close to giving up, and it just proves don't ever do that,
43:57because right whenever you're about to give up, something great really, really happens.
44:05Unfair or not, big red hair often brings up associations with clown hair.
44:10Clearly, Tyra was not trying to channel Bozo the Clown for Brittany Hatch's makeover,
44:14but that's exactly what she got.
44:18Brittany's original hairdo of short curls looked way more model-esque
44:22than the pile of red straw they attached to her head.
44:24The hair was brittle looking, frizzy and puffy, and it clearly looked like a weave,
44:29which defeats the purpose of getting the hairstyle professionally done.
44:33Number three, best, Naima's Mohawk, Cycle Four.
44:37This winner from Michigan came out with a very striking makeover,
44:40and an overall strong modeling performance.
44:43She was so amazing, I still have chills just thinking about it.
44:47It's quite evident in the show that Naima ruled the show.
44:49She has stage presence.
44:51Maura began the competition already a little edgy with her dark mohawk,
44:55but add a lighter color and a little product,
44:57and she popped more than anyone would have believed,
44:59as the makeover both defined and softened her features.
45:02I would have probably chosen a really, really light color or a really, really dark color,
45:08but this spot in between is perfect. I love it.
45:12Throughout the season, Maura won every one of the CoverGirl of the Week titles,
45:17got two first call-outs, and one over Kenya Hill and Kaelin Rondot
45:21in the CoverGirl commercial portion of the finale.
45:24In the final runway, she bested everyone and became the official winner of the cycle.
45:29What a show.
45:30Uniquely versatile, undeniably edgy.
45:33Naima, the spunky Detroit girl embodies a true CoverGirl.
45:42For the most part, the makeovers they give contestants are not permanent.
45:46Hair grows back, a weave can be taken out, and eyebrows can be dyed back.
45:50But the makeover team crossed that line when Tyra decided that the gap between
45:54Chelsea's two front teeth needed to be made bigger so that she had more of a Lauren Hutton look.
46:00To emulate the legendary model, Chelsea was taken to a dentist where they actually shaved around
46:05a millimeter off each front tooth. While we like the idea of accentuating someone's unique trait,
46:10this was a bridge too far.
46:12The competition is so big and intense and the stakes are so high that I take it really seriously.

46:34Number 1. Best. Fatima's Unfinished Story. Cycle 10.
46:40This Somalian-American contestant's tragic life and modeling talent is the stuff of legend.
46:45Debuting with a unique blonde curly texture, Siad was fitted with beautiful silky black hair
46:51extensions that made her look no less than stunning.
46:54When I first saw my new look, I thought it was beautiful. I really liked it. I felt like it
46:58really brought up my East African-ness.
47:01There were major hiccups, of course, with Siad struggling to take direction and missing an
47:06overseas photo shoot due to lost travel documents. Sadly, she was eliminated just before the final
47:12runway show, despite a strong portfolio. Your face is absolutely stunning. But modeling is so much more
47:20than just being beautiful. It's about listening to a photographer or a director's vision and delivering
47:26that message.
47:28Siad eventually went on to a successful career, signing up with modeling agencies in New York City
47:34and Los Angeles. To this day, we all wonder what could have been had Siad won.
47:39Hopefully I'll be a role model for a lot of young women, especially East African women. They can look
47:43at me and say, wow, look at her. She went out there and she did her thing.
