Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff Shannan Moon confirmed on Saturday (Feb 21) that rescue crews have recovered nine victims following an avalanche at Castle Peak in the Sierra Nevada that swept over a group of skiers on Tuesday (Feb 17).

01:01Lieutenant Dennis Hack said crews conducted reconnaissance flights on Friday and carried out avalanche mitigation before deploying search and rescue
01:10personnel.
01:11He added that the California Highway Patrol and the California National Guard assisted in hoist operations on Saturday.
01:18The final victim was recovered at 10.58 a.m., with 42 search and rescue volunteers involved in the operation.
01:25Authorities are also conducting a parallel investigation to determine whether criminal negligence contributed to the incident.
01:32No charges have been announced.
