00:14After attending the 1997 Ryder Cup hosted at Valderrama, his parents took up golf. John
00:20then followed in their footsteps, getting lessons when he was 6 or 7 years old. He developed
00:24a lot of his skill at the Centro Nacional de Golf in Madrid.
00:28From an early age, his father pushed him to move to the United States because he believed
00:32that's where the future of golf lay. As a result, he eventually attended Arizona State University
00:38where he collected 11 collegiate victories. This ranks second in the school's history
00:43behind one Phil Mickelson who had 16 wins.
00:46As a youngster, Rahm played a lot of sports, many of them involving either a racket or a
00:51paddle. One of them was pelota, a bass game that's a cross between high lie and racquetball.
00:56He also learned Kung Fu as a child to defend himself after getting into fights during class.
01:01Rahm's mental coach is Josebat Del Carmen, a man who has been a basketball player, a debt
01:06businessman, a professional golfer and a bomb technician. As a mental coach, he has worked
01:11with soccer and basketball teams, CEOs and business leaders. Quite the character.
01:16At the 2020 Masters, Rahm made two hole-in-ones in two days. During the practice rounds, he made one
01:24on the fourth hole and the next day, an ace came on the 16th after skipping the ball over the
01:29water.
01:29John Rahm is married to Kelly Cahill, a former javelin thrower at Arizona State University. They
01:34got married in Spain in December 2019 and they welcomed their first child, Kepa, in April 2021.
01:39In 2022, they announced they were expecting a second baby boy. Up until March 2022, Rahm held the record
01:46for being the number one-ranked male amateur in the world for the longest period of time.
01:50Overall, he held that distinction for 60 weeks between 2015 and 2016. This has since been broken
01:57by Japanese star Keita Nakajima. John Rahm is currently a member of Whisper Rock Golf Club
02:02in Phoenix, Arizona. It's a Tom Fazio design that has proved very popular amongst tour pros,

02:12Adam Hayes became John Rahm's caddy when he turned pro in June 2016. Hayes began his career caddying
02:18on the LPGA tour and went on to work with the likes of Webb Simpson and Jason Duff not on

02:23When Rahm was a freshman enrolling at Arizona State University, he barely knew any English,
02:28but he said he listened to a lot of rap in English to help himself learn. Two of his favourite
