00:00The episode I did with my dad called A Road Trip to Remember was the most profound one
00:05because he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's about four or five years ago.
00:10And he was genetically predisposed to it, right?
00:12Yeah.
00:12He and your mom.
00:13Yeah.
00:13And that's how we found out because I did my blood work on that show
00:17and found out that I had two copies of the APOE4 gene,
00:21which is you get a copy from your mom, a copy from your dad,
00:24either a two or three or a four.
00:24And they both gave you a copy?
00:26They both gave me a copy, but they both gave me the worst copy,
00:29which meant I was a 4-4, which is like one in I think a thousand people have.
00:34But they ā so I remember being with my dad and telling him about it
00:39and going, oh, I don't know if this is a kind of a ā it's not a death sentence,
00:42it's not a predeterministic gene, but it's like a big warning sign.
00:45And he said, oh, don't worry, mate, we'll figure it out.
00:47Yeah, and how many times am I going to have to tell him about it
00:50if he's exposed to Alzheimer's?
00:51Well, but he didn't ā we didn't know he was.
00:52And then five years later, he got diagnosed,
00:56and I remember sitting there telling him,
00:58don't worry, dad, we'll figure it out.
