00:00This is an incredible vision. Transport for Wales setting out generational change, comprehensive change, absolutely supported and endorsed by a
00:11Labour government in Westminster.
00:13And that's the power of two governments, two Labour governments working together.
00:18Make no mistake, this is a significant announcement and sets out the long-term vision for investment in Welsh Railways.
00:30This is a generational commitment to a £14 billion package of investment over 15 years.
00:40That is transformational. It's transformational for the people who live in our communities, it's transformational for connecting communities, it's transformational
00:50for the economy, for the opportunities in terms of housing and generally in terms of how we transform our communities
00:59here in Wales.
01:00And we know this because we're already doing it. The Welsh Labour government here has led the way and you
01:07can see the evidence of that.
01:09I'm really pleased to do it as an individual because I know who I'm fighting for.
01:14I'm fighting for all the people that need decent transport to get to work, to get to school, to get
01:20to education, to see their friends, their relatives, their family, to go to hospitals and the like.
01:26All of those people are the people we're fighting for.
01:29So yes, this is about rolling stock. Yes, it's about where the lines will be, but it's absolutely about the
01:37people all across Wales who will now have the opportunity of decent transport that they haven't had for so long.
01:44And what a change that is, because here's a comprehensive plan for the whole of Wales that is going to
01:51be delivered.
01:52We've invested a billion pounds in transforming the valleys railways, 800 million pounds on new trains all over South Wales,
02:02which are really making a difference.
02:05The punctuality is amongst the best in the UK. We see a 10 percent increase every year in the number
02:13of people using these trains.
02:15And I want to thank you all for all the work that you've done to make this possible.
02:21It's an investment in transport, but it's an investment in people as well, because we must have in our mind's
02:27eye all the people that will want and deserve decent transport, because transport is a great enabler.
02:35There's so much you can do with transport in terms of building the economy, making sure people are better off.
02:41But these big decisions could only be made if you've got a government that has stabilised the economy.
02:49And that's why stabilising the economy has been our number one concern as a Labour government.
02:55And we've got real evidence now that the plan is working.
