00:01We know Magpie's fans are very loyal members, but a recent letter that was sent out by Collingwood has left
00:08a bad taste in many people's mouths. Now, the ABC understands that a letter was sent to more than 8
00:14,000 Collingwood members, all aged over 50. And basically this letter, which was headlined, Yes, I will stand side by
00:21side forever, explained to these members how they can adjust their will to leave a legacy gift for the club.
00:27Now, this has created quite a bit of uproar online with many people thinking that it's a gross, describing it
00:34as a gross money grab. There was one member, a son of a disgruntled fan, saying on social media, My
00:41mum got this today. He had posted a picture of the letter and saying, Are they serious? How much more
00:46money do they need? Now, the issue is in the fact that Collingwood has asked for a legacy gift. That,
00:51in fact, is something that a lot of charities do. A lot of AFL clubs have bequest programs.
00:55But the problem is that this letter was sent out to that older demographic, people who are 50 plus, and
01:02that seems to have left a bad taste in many people's mouths. So after this backlash, the CEO of Collingwood
01:08issued an apology. And in this statement, he said that the intention was only ever to encourage members, if they
01:15wish, to leave a legacy gift and be a part of the club in that way.
01:20Now, online, there is a lot of anger towards this move, but some people are not as ticked off.
