00:02And the sprint race is underway in Austin. Good reaction time for Max Verstappen who will close
00:08the door on Charles Leclerc, dramatically so. Charles Leclerc didn't want to give it up. He had
00:12no choice in the end. They will both get through the first turn with Verstappen having the lead.
00:17Hamilton up to second place squirming all over the road. The Ferrari was squeezed. They go wheel
00:21to wheel into the section with Hamilton getting up to second position. Charles Leclerc gambled.
00:26It didn't work. He goes from challenging for first. He's down to third position. And then gaining a
00:31place in the middle of the pack is Carlos Sainz who is up to P5. Esteban Ocon gained a couple
00:37of places
00:37as well. But it's Max Verstappen with the lead. He had to fight for it. He had to go really
00:42defensive
00:42into one and super impressed. We didn't see locking up and running wide there. Charles Leclerc fought
00:48hard for it. And only one gain for Carlos Sainz. This is going to be really interesting to see
00:53whether those tires hang in there and give him any further advantage as the three abreast
00:58off the hairpin. This is not going to head well down into turn 12. No DRS obviously on the first
01:03lap. But you see the Astons in line. That's Nico Halkenberg. As we see Carlos Sainz going down
01:07the inside of the McLaren into 12 for another spot. That'll work for Carlos Sainz. Fires up those
01:12soft tires. Gets the move complete. On board with Oscar Piastri. Actually not a bad initial getaway.
01:20Then he had a bit of a spin-up of the rear tire and then a bit of contact with
01:24Carlos Sainz for good
01:25measure. I wonder if that's maybe done a bit of damage to the 81 cars. We see Hamilton. He's
01:30riding around the outside here. Great exit.
01:35This looks like a good run for the Red Bull that's closing down the gap. Oscar Piastri knows
01:39it as well. And can Perez go around the outside or will the door be closed? Fair racing. But off
01:46the road goes Perez. He'll tuck back in. He won't be delighted about it but he would have expected
01:50nothing less.
01:53There's the move of defense once again. Perez gets a second opportunity. The Australian will be laid
01:58on the brakes once again. Piastri defending. Perez does the up and under. Chops across. Piastri doesn't
02:04want to give it up but he doesn't have a choice and Sergio Perez makes the pass that he needed
02:09to.
02:09Yeah that was a great move as we now see George Russell trying to capitalize on Piastri off stride
02:13a little bit here. Can he go around the outside at 16? I don't think so. Whoa! All the way
02:18around
02:18the outside. Did he keep all four wheels on the racetrack? Because if he didn't, he's got to take
02:23it back. Pierre Gasly has improved to eighth position. He's got past Oscar Piastri and the
02:29Frenchman making another pass on the Australian driver. This is how he did it. Heading to turn
02:35one. Yeah I just can't help but think that maybe there's still some damage to Piastri from that
02:39clip with Carlos Sainz. And there's that penalty for George Russell. Here's the moment where he
02:43tried an audacious move around the outside of Oscar Piastri. We think he will put it back first.
02:50There you don't have me off the road. Well we are in America. We're not far from Hollywood.
02:55There's a bit of Hollywood script there. That was just a bit of opportunism. He wasn't far enough
03:00alongside to be claiming he got ran off the road. I mean Oscar would have no idea he was there.
03:07Is this the moment for Lando Norris who's been in this position time and time and time again. He builds
03:13up through the gears. TRS open up to 185 miles per hour. Even faster now with a slipstream
03:19of the Ferrari ahead and the move that has been coming surely about to be completed by Lando Norris
03:25who takes fourth place. You can hear the crowd willing Sergio Perez past Carlos Sainz. Lot of
03:35confidence under braking. Amazing closing speed as he goes wide once again. He'll have TRS. He'll have
03:41the slipstream. Will he have fifth position in his possession by the time that we get to the end of
03:46the straight. Looks like he's got the momentum to make the pass. We go nose cam for Sergio Perez as
03:51he eases his way into fifth place. Again the lack of defense is still a little surprising. I get he's
03:57just going to go slower but that dirty air is going to hurt him and now Russell's not far behind
04:02either.
04:05Sergio Perez is being roared along though by plenty in the crowd and is this the moment
04:10for George Russell. These two make contact with this corner. One year ago Russell sends it to the
04:15inside once again. Sainz. Well he positioned the car perfectly. He saw it coming and he's ahead for
04:21the moment. Not much between the two of them as they go into the fast sweepers of the first section
04:26of this racetrack and Russell has to study that Ferrari rear wing once again but you can see Sainz
04:32just hanging on to it right now. The Aston Martin of Lance Stroll now in the pit lane they're going
04:39to
04:39retire that car so the the woes just continue for Aston this weekend Alex. They're just not
04:45not where they need to be with this update. The genius behind the wheel of Max Verstappen on show
04:51nearly every single time the Uyghur racing in Formula One 2023. He comes to the final corner on the last
05:00lap. The Dutch driver will look up and see the checkered flag first once again in Formula One.
05:06Max Verstappen is the winner. He takes the sprint in Austin with a dominant performance. 9.3 seconds
05:13ahead of Lewis Hamilton as he comes across the line. Hamilton once again in the top three at the second
05:20of the Americas with a strong second place and over the line we go with Charles Leclerc hanging on
05:26thanks to a late charge for Lando Norris. He got close. Eight tenths of a second away. That will give
05:32him a lot of encouragement for tomorrow and then it was Perez in fifth. Sainz in sixth place. Russell
05:38comes over the line. That five second penalty is immediately applied and he finds himself down to
05:45eighth with Gasly in seventh place. Then it was Albon outside the points and this is a cracking run
05:50over the line for Daniel Ricciardo to chase home. Esteban Ocon.
05:54Well done Max. It was a good day at the beginning of that race. Nice job.
06:00Simply lovely dad. Yeah that was a very very strong Saturday Max. Well done mate.
06:06Yeah pace was good. Hopefully a bit more fun tomorrow mate.
06:11Verstappen taking another sprint win ahead of Lewis Hamilton in second. Charles Leclerc third chased all the way
06:17home by Lando Norris who could really push that McLaren nicely in the latter stages. Sergio Perez
06:22was in fifth. Carlos Sainz in sixth position. Pierre Gasly elevated up to seven thanks to the five
06:27second penalty for Russell. Albon falling just three tenths shy as he tries to close down the gap. He was
06:34ninth. Piastri was tenth. Then it was Ocon, Ricciardo, Alonso, Sonoda, Hülkenberg, Bottas, Joe Guanyu,
06:39Kevin Magnussen, Logan Sargent and the only retirement was Lance Stroll. Let's check in with
06:47the Drivers' Championship where Max Verstappen extends that gap even further. Sergio Perez 228 points.
06:54Lewis Hamilton closing that gap down a little bit today.
06:56And now we're going to join another day.
06:57We'll be back in now.
06:57Bye bye.
