Western Sydney has one of the largest Muslim populations in the country. In Lakemba, thousands of people flood the streets for the annual Ramadan night markets to break their fast.

00:59only try the different food but experience the different cultures who's welcome here everyone
01:05everyone's welcoming to Lakemba Nise and I get so happy when people come and experience it and
01:11enjoy the food and talk to people that you don't know and learn about other people and learn about
01:16differences and you know and you know learn about acceptance and tolerance this is what we are this
01:22is what our country is all about it's not about hate it's never been about hate it's always been about

01:30it's a blessed month obviously it's a sacrifice sacrifice not just of food sacrifice of our own
01:37attitudes lowering our own like abilities to learn how to talk to people nicer learn how to be better
01:43people a few things like that I think and that's that's that's the main focus of this month I'm
01:48Muslim so I can say Ramadan is like for me is like everything yeah for example like we do like

01:56praying and all the good stuff for ourselves but like fasting and Ramadan we do for God

02:35many good foods and we're here with the family to break the first the first day of Ramadan it's a

02:42enjoyable time with all the people here Ramadan for me it's just a time to like spiritually connect with
02:47Islam and have time with my family as well and usually after Ramadan we always get together
02:54have a feast of food and go pray as well and like just come together and just you know spend

03:00each other as well
