00:00Let's start with specifics. What are these roles? Where are these roles?
00:03The roles are mainly in California and Washington. We have them across Los Angeles, San Jose and Seattle, which are
00:11all cities that TikTok also has offices in.
00:15And I think what's so fascinating about these AI roles is really just how much they run the gamut.
00:20You've got roles that are focused on producing international data to feed to ByteDance's LLMs. You've got roles doing research
00:28to make AI more human-like.
00:31And you've also got these really interesting roles building science models that are really looking for talent in biology, chemistry
00:39and physics.
00:39And these are more roles focused on helping ByteDance pursue drug discovery and development.
00:45So the reason this is a notable story, right, you just said that these roles will be in proximity to
00:50or in U.S. TikTok's offices, right?
00:53But the broader thing is, you know, Chinese parent hiring for roles in the field of AI in the United
01:00States.
01:01National security competition. Take us there.
01:04To clarify, these are not necessarily in the same as the TikTok offices, but they are in the same cities
01:10where TikTok has a large footprint.
01:11And as you just mentioned, these are also cities where some of the leading American AI companies also have a
01:18lot of talent and their own footprint.
01:21I think what's so interesting is that to this point in the U.S., we've really thought about ByteDance as
01:26a social media company.
01:27It is also a dominant AI company.
01:29And it really seems that that has been a bit lost on the U.S. until now.
01:33And I think the turning point has really been over the last week since ByteDance unveiled some new AI models
01:40for video generation, for example,
01:42and image generation that has really caught on and raised concern, especially from Hollywood, in a very big way.
