00:00Normally we start at the press conference talking about the game and previewing the weekend,
00:03but the last 48 hours have been dominated by what's happened in Benfica, Riala Ramadrid and
00:09also Manisius Jim. In your career you've spent a great deal of time speaking in depth about
00:17the importance of speaking up and speaking out against racism in the game. So how did you feel
00:23watching those events on Tuesday? It's upsetting. It's upsetting when anyone and there's context
00:33that needs to be that needs to be had in terms of this situation. Always there has to be context
00:38to it.
00:38What I will say, you can see any form of racism in society, let alone football, is unacceptable.
00:46It's unacceptable. I cannot speak about an incident where an investigation is ongoing.
00:52I won't speak about that incident. What I would say is when you see a player upset how
00:57Vinicius Jr. was upset, normally they are upset for a reason. I've been racially abused myself.
01:05I know people have been racially abused and what people have to understand is when you are judged
01:10for something that you should be proud of, it is the worst feeling you can ever possibly imagine.
01:15There are historical things to racism. I need to, as manager of this unbelievable football club,
01:21make my statement on it. If any player or any coach or any manager has ever found guilty of racism,
01:28they shouldn't be in the game. It's as simple as that for me. But what I will not do categorically
01:33is talk about one incident when there is an ongoing investigation.
01:37Yeah, I appreciate that but there has been a fallout since the event itself and Jose Mourinho is
01:43somebody who seeks into the history of this football club, the football club that you represent.
01:48You seem to give the impression that Vinicius Jr. was provoked that situation himself.
01:55As manager to manager, what did you make of his comments and the way that Benfica handled the situation?
02:01I don't think it's manager to manager, to be honest. And again, it's context. What I would say is,
02:08regardless of how a player celebrates, Ray should never come into it. That is an ongoing investigation.
02:13What I'm not going to do, I don't know the context of the situation. I don't know the context of
02:18in which Jose said what he said and I won't make a judgement on it. It's the same thing. I
02:24won't
02:24make a judgement until you get the facts. It's difficult for me to make a judgement. But what I
02:28will say is, if any player or any coach is ever found guilty of racism, you shouldn't be in the
02:34game.
02:34And it's as simple as that.
