00:02Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified in Los Angeles Superior Court in a trial over social
00:08media safety that began in late January, according to CNBC. The case centers on a
00:13young woman who alleged she became addicted to Instagram and YouTube. Lawyers for the plaintiff
00:18alleged that Meta, YouTube, TikTok, and Snap misled the public about safety and knew their
00:23app designs and features caused mental health harm to young users. Zuckerberg disputed claims
00:29that increasing time spent on Instagram was a company goal and said the company removes
00:33underage users it identifies and requires users to be at least 13. Zuckerberg said lawyers
00:39mischaracterized his comments about higher retention among tweets and said Meta does not
00:44always launch products in development. The Los Angeles Superior Court trial over social media
00:49safety has been compared to the industry's big tobacco moment. Snap and TikTok settled before
00:54trial. For all things money, visit Benzinga.com.
