00:00So Mark Zuckerberg just walked into a courtroom and basically said Instagram isn't addictive,
00:05and we're definitely not out here preying on kids.
00:08That's right, we're back at it.
00:10In case you missed the first chapter of this saga,
00:12a 20-year-old woman is suing Meta and YouTube,
00:14claiming these apps hooked her as a kid and that the algorithms wrecked her mental health.
00:18And now, it's Zuck's turn in the hot seat.
00:20Inside the courtroom, reporters said he came off as combative.
00:23Outside, crowds gathered like it was the premiere of a Marvel movie.
00:27But here's where it gets wild.
00:28The woman's lawyer asked Zuckerberg if something is addictive, don't people tend to use it more?
00:34And Zuck goes, I'm not sure what to say to that.
00:36Then the attorney laid out three options for how companies treat vulnerable users.
00:40Help them, ignore them, or prey upon them.
00:43Zuckerberg quickly shut down that last one, saying a responsible company should help its users.
00:48But then the lawyer pulled out internal Meta documents showing employees did have goals
00:52tied to increasing time spent on the app, contradicting what Zuckerberg just said.
00:56Zuck's response?
00:58These goals used to exist, but Meta moved away from them.
01:01Now, critics say Instagram and Facebook are engineered to keep you scrolling.
01:05The infinite feed, the notifications, the algorithm, it's all designed to hit the same reward loops
01:09as a slot machine.
01:11Supporters argue the opposite.
01:13Millions of people use these apps without spiraling,
01:15so calling them addictive is just blaming tech for deeper issues.
01:18And honestly, when I covered the YouTube side of this trial, you guys unanimously said,
01:22yeah, I'm addicted to YouTube and YouTube shorts, forget about it.
01:26So now I'm curious, does that same energy apply to Instagram and Facebook?
01:29Do you feel hooked or do you feel like this lawsuit is reaching?
