00:00From all across town, residents are popping in to get bottled water.
00:04Here in Caor, a city in the southwest of France in the Lotte department,
00:07the tap water has been contaminated by recent floods.
00:11It's too dangerous to drink or use for cooking, so the city's provided bottled water.
00:17It's true, it's not fun, but it's better than nothing.
00:21It's been like this for over a week now. It's long.
00:25Here, the tap water is still largely coming out clear,
00:28but microscopically, there is a bacteria risk.
00:33At first sight, it looks like you can drink it,
00:35but I think it's better to dump it down the drain, I think.
00:40Because of the heavy rainfall and flooding,
00:43the area's clean water filtration system has been contaminated.
00:46So until it's treated and flushed through, it's bottled water time in the kitchen.
00:51I'm putting the water in. This is what's most complicated about it,
00:55because we're not used to making coffee with bottled water.
00:57Normally, we fill it up at the sink, so it's a question of habit.
01:01Since it's been a while, we're getting the hang of it.
01:06Across the southwest of France, municipalities have been testing the tap water,
01:10and when necessary, issuing orders not to drink it.
01:15It's an unprecedented situation.
01:17A number of springs have been contaminated by the flood water.
01:20There's our spring at the Fountain des Chartres,
01:22but also others in the north of the Lott's department.
01:25So naturally, a number of towns have been impacted.
01:28Some 40% of the Lott's residents have been told not to drink the tap water
01:32and to wait until it's safe to use again.
