Sun, surf and second takes as ‘Baywatch’ reboot holds beach auditions

“Baywatch” splashed back into action on Wednesday as wannabe lifeguards flocked to Marina del Rey in Los Angeles to chase a spot in FOX’s 2026 American TV series reboot. The open casting call created buzz, with 2,000 people showing up to strut their beach bodies and try out for a part in the beloved show. Computer engineer Kibwe Williamson, 48, flew in from Orlando, Florida for the chance to pursue his dream of acting. "I'm hoping this is the beginning of a change of career, you know," Williamson told Reuters on Mothers Beach, wearing red shorts and a red lifeguard visor. The original “Baywatch,” led by David Hasselhoff, ran for 11 seasons from 1989 to 2001, and eventually became the most-watched TV series in the world. Executive producers McG and Matt Nix said they hoped to bring a smile to the faces of viewers.

00:03Now remember, you hate the people in the middle, right?
00:05Go, go, go!
00:17All right, guys, we have one more shot, one more shot.
00:31Okay, so everyone.
00:57I was really excited to see a Baywatch reboot.
01:00I grew up around the ocean.
01:01My dad's Puerto Rican.
01:02My mom's actually from Southern California, so it's just in my blood.
01:06I surf, and I spend a lot of time on the beach, and I think that it would just be
01:09such a fun project
01:10to work on, and I'm so excited to even get to be in the room today.
01:34I'm hoping this is the beginning of a change of career, you know?
01:38I try to really start moving storytelling.
01:42Right now I'm an engineer.
01:43I'm hoping I can maybe do something else.
02:05I would see clips growing up of Baywatch, and I always admired that they were one of the few shows
02:10that actually did swimming, right?
02:11You know, you see actors swim all the time, and sometimes it literally, as a swimmer, it takes me out
02:16of it a little bit.
02:16You know, if they're flopping around and there's a current.
02:19And Baywatch, man, you go back and watch, and these people are legitimate athletes, which I always really respected.
02:25Look at all that space. Get in there. We've got to tighten it up. We want it to look really
02:29hot.
02:41Just really hot people on the beach, pretty much, running in slow motion.
02:46And their hair and makeup is always done, even when they're in the water.
02:48So that's my impression of Baywatch.
03:03All right.
03:04You guys all look great.
03:30You know what, you're right, I'm just gonna stick in this though, I'm trusting you right
03:36Just do it, just do it
