00:00We're in a bit of a, you know, it's one of those slower weeks, I would say, in the sports
00:03calendar.
00:04You know, it's.
00:04I have not been, I have not looked forward to a Charlotte basketball game more in my life.
00:10Right.
00:11Than I have before this week.
00:12It is interesting that the slower weeks coincided with all-star breaks.
00:16You know, like that week in July where the all-star game is there is generally a slow week and
00:21a slow time of year.
00:22And for football, we're kind of in between the Super Bowl and the Combine right now.
00:26I mean, it is perfect timing for the Olympics.
00:28I do feel like maybe I haven't checked in on the Olympics ratings as of lately.
00:33But, you know, you never know exactly.
00:35The Olympics is going to fall in different time windows every time they do it.
00:39Yeah.
00:39Based on the actual dates and everything.
00:41This year it worked out really well for them.
00:43Yeah.
00:43Yeah.
00:43It's in Italy.
00:44So everywhere I'm walking into, regardless of what time of day, if there's a TV, there's Olympics on right now.
00:50Yeah.
00:50So it's easy to get into the Olympics because they do such a good job making you care about the
00:54athletes.
00:55Yeah, absolutely.
00:57What I was – the main thing I wanted to say about this dead time is thank you to Tony
01:01Clark, the head of the Baseball Players Association, for resigning yesterday.
01:08What the hell?
01:10We needed a good – we needed two things this week to get through the week.
01:13Scandal and John McClain threatening to run naked up Kirby.
01:18Right.
01:18We needed those two things yesterday.
01:20Those are the two things that are going to juice up a dead week.
01:22That's what's going to sustain us on this day, everybody.
01:25You've been warned, is baseball scandal and a naked John McClain.
01:30So lay out the baseball scandal for us.
01:33So Tony Clark was the head of the MLB Players Association.
01:40Former player himself, played for 15 years in the bigs, took over in 2013, took over the players' union.
01:46And he resigned yesterday amidst multiple scandals, which had me very frustrated with the reporting.
01:53Oh.
01:54Very frustrated.
01:55This is these damn baseball writer nerds.
01:58Yes.
01:58In multiple different articles, some of the more respected writers, Jeff Passan from ESPN, whoever the hell wrote about it
02:07in The Athletic, I go to those sources thinking, okay, I'm going to get everything laid out.
02:13And they did a pretty good job of explaining some of the administrative things, some of the potential misappropriation of
02:20funds and all of that.
02:21But when you find out that the president of the MLBPA has been having an inappropriate relationship with his sister
02:28-in-law.
02:28Just sailed past it.
02:30And never once mentioned whether it's his brother's wife or his wife's sister.
02:37Right.
02:38How do you not mention that?
02:39That's a big deal.
02:39That's a huge deal.
02:40That is a huge, juicy detail.
02:43Huge.
02:43They don't even acknowledge that they don't know.
02:46Yeah.
02:46They just skate on right past it.
02:47Well, yeah, the pass and first run at it was so weird.
02:51Now, ultimately, they added some detail to the article, as you can do on the interwebs.
02:55You know, it's not in print.
02:57But the very first report of it, the inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law was sailed past so quickly,
03:04I didn't even know if it was inappropriate, like a sexual affair type of thing.
03:10Or if it's that he had her working in a position that she wasn't qualified for or whatever.
03:16Yeah, like nepotism.
03:17And it didn't even clarify that.
03:19And I'm like, this is horrible.
03:21And then went into very confusing detail on these branding NIL partner that MLB and the NFL had partnered with.
03:31And that some of the money there might be a little janky.
03:34It's getting investigated.
03:35They have a for-profit youth initiative that there are very few appearances done for.
03:44Which immediately there, I'm like, okay, okay, wait a second.
03:48The easiest PR thing in the world to do is, you know, help out the kids.
03:53And MLB PA decides to make it a for-profit venture.
03:56Right.
03:56Let's profit off these kids.
03:57All right, great.
03:59So the bottom line is, there were two initiatives from MLB, or that MLB was involved in.
04:06Yeah.
04:06Because the NIL one, the One Partners, I think it's called, was a partnership with the NFL.
04:12There's some, at the very least, some stuff that's going on with both of those that are necessitating an investigation
04:17from the Eastern District of New York.
04:19I think, you know, basically the-
04:22Oh, yeah, the old EDM line.
04:23The authorities, yeah, the authorities are investigating that.
04:26So there's enough going on with that, that Tony Clark's regime, you know, his status as president of the Major
04:35League Baseball Players Association was going to be in somewhat jeopardy.
04:38And then this, through all the investigation, unearthed some emails between him and his sister-in-law that have unearthed
04:44this inappropriate relationship, which appears to now be the catalyst for the actual removal of him.
04:49That was like the straw that broke the camel's back.
04:52I guess.
04:53That was his sister-in-law that was a little too heavy for the camel's back.
04:56I guess.
04:56I've only seen one person on Twitter with any sort of baseball background shout from the rooftops about the inappropriate
05:08relationship.
05:08and say brother's wife.
05:11So I don't know if it's true or not.
05:13That's all I'm saying is I've only seen one person say brother's wife.
05:16Which mess is messier?
05:18It's a great question.
05:19Think about your personal situation.
05:20It feels like a Pender poll, by the way.
05:21If you had a relationship with your brother's wife.
05:24Yep.
05:24Or if you had a relationship with your wife's sister.
05:27I have both of those things.
05:29You had those situations?
05:30No, no, no, no.
05:31I have both.
05:32No, no, no.
05:32I have both.
05:32I've had both those women.
05:36It was good.
05:37Let me tell you, when you got them both at the same time.
05:40There ain't nothing quite like forbidden in-law fruit.
05:43Makes me want to run naked down Kirby, I tell you.
05:46I have a wife's sister, Amanda.
05:49She's awesome.
05:50I have a brother's wife, Kate.
05:52Equally awesome.
05:54I would say the messier of the two for me would be the sister's wife because of the proximity and
06:00everything.
06:01You know?
06:01Yeah.
06:02You're right there every day.
06:04It's, yeah, there's so many different dynamics that come into it.
06:07I would say, let's say that you had otherwise, up until that point when your relationship was discovered,
06:11let's say you already had a good, or at least your brother thought you had a good relationship with him.
06:17Yeah.
06:17And your wife thought she had a good relationship with you.
06:20Yeah.
06:20I would say the one, at the very least, the one, at the end of the day, the wife, having
06:28a relationship with your wife's sister will likely end in divorce,
06:31and then that entire family is just out of your life.
06:34Yeah.
06:34So, whereas with your brother, then you'd betray blood.
06:40Yeah, yeah, yeah.
06:41And then you might be ostracized from your own family, as well as your wife, too.
06:48Yeah.
06:48That's the double whammy of it.
06:50If you have a relationship with your wife's sister, okay, great, she's going to divorce you.
06:54Yeah.
06:55If you have a relationship with your brother's wife, you're on the outs with your own family, plus your wife
07:00is going to divorce you.
07:01Yeah, that's true.
07:02That's true.
07:03It's a double whammy.
07:04You've forsaken everybody that's close to you in your life.
07:07You have.
07:08You have.
07:08No, for the average person, I think you're right.
07:10Now, I think we factor in, too.
07:12Sometimes people are in families where, if I get ostracized by this family, I'll be okay.
07:17But you're still out of your own family, too, more times than not.
07:21I'm referring to that.
07:22I'm referring to the blood family, as well.
07:24Yeah, I know, but that's what I mean, though.
07:26But you get, it's a double whammy.
07:28Yeah.
07:28You're out on both sides.
07:30I'd be all right.
07:31You know, like, it's...
07:32So you're just not making a decision on this.
07:34No, no, no.
07:35It really comes down to how hot are either of these respective women.
07:39It might, yeah.
07:40No, I'm not thinking of either of those things.
07:42What are you talking about?
07:43Can I tell you a weird thing?
07:44Yeah.
07:45A really weird thing about old Sether's family?
07:48Yeah.
07:48My brother's wife, and my brother who listens, he doesn't listen right now.
07:53Yeah.
07:54He listens while he's driving the kids to school.
07:56My brother's wife looks almost exactly like my wife.
08:01You're one of those families, huh?
08:03To the point where the first time I met my brother's wife, I was waiting for them in a parking
08:09lot of a restaurant, because we were going to have dinner together.
08:12I hadn't met my brother's girlfriend at the time yet.
08:15And I was on the phone with my wife, and I had this weird...
08:20And I'm talking to Brandy on the phone, and then my brother pulls in with Brandy sitting next to him.
08:27It's the way my brain was connecting it.
08:30Oh, you saw the girlfriend.
08:31I was kind of like, what the hell is going on here?
08:33Yeah, yeah.
08:34And that's, I don't know.
08:36It's either that Dan and I just have the...
08:38We're genetically programmed to have the same taste in women.
08:44Yeah.
08:44Or, my brother always secretly lusted after my wife and went out and fell in love with a woman that
08:50looked exactly like her.
08:51Either of those things are plausible.
08:52Everything's been cool since then.
08:54There's never been any, you know, any...
08:56Maybe it helps that we live so far away from each other.
08:58That helps, that helps.
08:59Was it awkward the first few times you grabbed your brother's girlfriend's butt?
09:03I told her to go, shouldn't you be doing the laundry?
09:07Yeah.
09:07Yeah, you ordered her a ride.
09:08You know, the way I talked to Brandy.
09:09Of course, of course.
09:11Should I pender-pull this thing?
09:13Yeah.
09:13Wife, sister.
09:15What's a messier situation?
09:16Brother's wife.
09:17No, you make a great point on the messiness of the brother's wife thing.
09:21It is a very valid, very valid point, for sure.
09:26I think that'll probably, if I had to handicap it, that'll win, if I had to guess.
09:30But I don't want to steer people one way or the other on it.
09:32The brother's wife...
09:33It could also, I mean, it could also be...
09:36Is it still your...
09:37So, my brother's-in-law, so my wife, my wife's brothers, are their wives?
09:43My sisters-in-law?
09:45I always refer to them as that.
09:46Yeah, I think so.
09:47Okay.
09:47Yeah, I think so.
09:48So there's a level of potential relationship we don't know about.
09:51Another level, or if you choose to look at it this way, a more target-rich environment.
09:56Because baseball writers are such damn nerds these days.
10:00That's the big thing.
10:01They can't be bothered with the human element of anything.
10:04I just hated the way...
10:04It's got to be all about B-War.
10:06I hated the way...
10:07Yes.
10:08I hated the way Passon sailed by it in the opening, like, sentence of the article and
10:12never went back to it.
10:13It's kind of like when somebody on the radio say, like, well, I know something, but I
10:18can't say it on air.
10:19Yeah.
10:19Yes.
10:20Yes.
10:20And then their co-host says, just tell me during the break, and that gets people even more
10:24heated.
10:25Yeah, and then you never hear about it again.
10:27That's right.
10:27That's right.
10:28People weighing in.
10:28Brother's wife damages two marriages.
10:31The wife's sister isn't necessarily married.
10:33That's true.
10:34If we're going to go the baseball nerd analytics route on this, that's what we'd have to say.
10:38That's a great...
10:39It's the most damage done.
10:41No, you laid it out perfectly.
10:43It's just my lack of a soul sometimes is what reigned on your parade.
10:48You and I both have, I think, an ability to just cut people out.
10:52I am.
10:52100%.
10:53All right.
10:54We can compartmentalize really well.
10:56In our minds, we're going to be like, all right, so I'll be alone in the world, and I'll
11:00move on from there.
11:00Whatever.
11:01That's exactly what I was thinking.
11:03I don't want to speak for the average person.
11:04I'm just saying that's what I was thinking.
11:06I'm like, all right.
11:07All right.
11:08I'll be okay.
11:11Brother's wife is much worse because the family betrayal is on your side of the family.
11:16Yeah.
11:16If you screw your wife's sister, the family betrayal is only on her side of the family.
11:22Right, right.
11:22All right.
11:23So this, I'm going to pull this one, but it feels like one where the die is cast, but
11:27you never know.
11:29Um, John McClain was on one yesterday.
11:32Uh, John McClain.
11:34On his sister-in-law?
11:35Uh, no.
11:35Well, I, no, I am just saying on Twitter.
11:38He was on an in-law yesterday.
11:40Right, right.
11:41Yeah.
11:41Yeah.
11:41He was on one.
11:42He said, uh, this is in response to all the conjecture out there that the Texans are going
11:46to get phone calls about CJ, not rumors there.
11:49There's no trade rumors about CJ.
11:52They really aren't.
11:52No, there's just people debunking rumor, aggressively debunking rumors that aren't even actually
11:58rumors.
11:59There's people with platforms saying that teams could call the Texans this off season.
12:03Yeah.
12:03I suppose it's true.
12:05Uh, John McClain says, if CJ Stroud is traded, I'll walk naked down Kirby drive at rush hour.
12:12Is anyone else willing to do this?
12:14If he's not traded, didn't think so.
12:19John's slapping it down immediately because, uh, because the internet keeps receipts, not
12:25one, but two different instances in which, uh, John McClain very emphatically guaranteed
12:31that something wouldn't happen.
12:32Yes.
12:33And then he was proven wrong.
12:34Yeah.
12:34I actually retweeted this as soon as I saw it.
12:36I said, John, you got into trouble with this about a decade ago and you had to eat the
12:41front page of the Chronicles draft coverage when the Texans drafted Jadeveon Clowney.
12:46John said back in 2014 that if the Texans did not draft a quarterback, now keep in mind,
12:51this is Bill O'Brien's first year as head coach, post Matt Schaub.
12:55If they didn't draft a quarterback with the first overall pick, he would eat the front
13:00page of the Chronicle, which I believe he did eat a few strips of newspaper chased
13:05by a loaded baked potato.
13:07There's at least one article that I found on NFL.com, which claims he did it.
13:11I know that there was footage of it out there.
13:13I couldn't find it, but that was one number two.
13:17And that was, and that was in a year, by the way, when John said that, I mean, if he
13:21had handicapped it a little bit, that was a year where there just really weren't any,
13:25there, there weren't a lot of great quarterbacks that were available.
13:28Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater were the first round pick.
13:31Those are the guys who went in the first round and Bortles was the only one who was close
13:36to the top of the draft.
13:37Derek Carr was the potential one there.
13:39And then there were a whole lot of other, you know, all the speculation that went into
13:42whether Derek Carr, et cetera, et cetera, because of David Carr.
13:45Yeah.
13:45Yep.
13:46The other one, and keep in mind, these are both proclamations that John wound up on the
13:50wrong side of.
13:50The other one was right after Deshaun Watson, uh, requested a trade back in, um, in 20 early
14:002021, January, January, January, 2021, January 7th, 2021, McLean wrote an article, ignore
14:06the rumors Texans will not trade Deshaun Watson.
14:10Now, I guess to be fair to John, that was before all the, you know, two months later is when
14:15all the lawsuits came out.
14:16Yeah.
14:17Maybe the Texans would have been more dug in, had the legal situation not happened.
14:20Maybe not.
14:21I don't know.
14:22That was one though, too, where there were a lot of people and I can't remember under
14:26the, you know, I can't remember as I, we all shifted our, our handicapping of that situation
14:32as things got more and more messy and complicated.
14:35Um, but that was one, even after the allegations and everything, there were a lot of people that
14:39insisted that they still wouldn't trade Deshaun Watson because he, he doesn't have any
14:44leverage.
14:44He doesn't have any leverage.
14:45They kept Deshaun didn't have any leverage right up until the point he got $240 million guaranteed,
14:49uh, right up until it, right up until the point he got the, the biggest guaranteed contract
14:54in NFL history.
14:55Yeah.
14:56People were insisting that Deshaun Watson had zero leverage.
14:58No leverage.
14:59Yeah.
14:59Yeah.
15:00Even, I mean, with a no trade clause that he had that he weaponized.
15:03Yeah.
15:03Yeah.
15:04So, um, so I say all that to say, we say all that to say, prepare for, uh, prepare for
15:10CJ shroud to get traded and naked John McClain to be gallivanting down, down Kirby.
15:15When he ate the sports section, when he was wrong about the Texans, not drafting a quarterback,
15:20he did eat at least part of the front page.
15:23This is what I recall.
15:24This is a visual.
15:25The visual I recall is strips of the Chronicle.
15:27Like he chopped it and he put it into food.
15:29Yes.
15:30A loaded baked potato.
15:32Yeah.
15:32Yeah.
15:32A loaded baked potato is what the article says.
15:34So if he's going to walk naked down Kirby, I guess the question becomes, is there a differentiation
15:39between the, you know, when people say butt naked or buck naked, I don't know what the
15:45appropriate one is.
15:46Like that's, that's people saying, okay, you're totally in the nude.
15:50Yeah.
15:50Can you be naked?
15:52Uh, I, I, I feel, I don't know.
15:54Is there, can you say, can you wear a banana hammock?
15:56Is that what you're asking?
15:57Yeah.
15:57Can you say you're naked if you're doing that?
15:59Cause he doesn't want to get arrested for indecency.
16:01Right, right, right.
16:02No, I would say, yeah, we don't want to, yeah.
16:04Banana hammock is acceptable.
16:05Okay.
16:06Yeah.
16:06Cause I don't know how many people want the alternative anyways.
16:09You know, it's.
16:09Well, nobody, it's not like people are pining for the banana hammock either.
16:13No, but I'm lesser of two evils.
16:15They're not like, wait, wait, he's not totally naked.
16:17Is he?
16:18Yeah.
16:18No, he's wearing a banana hammock.
16:19Banana hammock.
16:20Oh, that's exactly what I wanted.
16:21That's exactly what I've been hoping and dreaming for.
16:24That's my kink.
16:25Yeah.
