05:57All right, can you just gather up, please?
05:59All the team, right here. Thank you.
06:02Dr. Bentley, Dr. Sloan, let me introduce you to the rest of the team.
06:05This is Bob Burns, Air Traffic Control, Frank Dangler, Human Performance,
06:10Jan French, Weather Factors, Bill Kinsley, Structural Systems, and Alex Vale Power Plans.
06:16Now, Dr. Bentley is our medical examiner.
06:18Dr. Sloan will be covering survival factors, and he's also our local team coordinator, or LTC.
06:24So, if you can't find me, you go to him. All right?
06:28And there's Mark Sloan and Amanda Bentley.
06:31Well, they're bathing the spill fires in foam, so we'll be able to go in soon.
06:35Now, you all know the drill, right? Every victim is to be tagged and flagged.
06:40Guthrie! Yo!
06:43Ted Sherman, Pack of Atlantic Flight Ops. We're gonna get my people in here?
06:47When I say so, right now, I don't want you or your people anywhere near this investigation.
06:51Pack of Atlantic has every right to be involved.
06:53You know, we need to know what brought down that plane just as much as you did.
06:56Mr. Sherman, I'm very busy here right now.
06:57Excuse me. Mr. Sherman, may I have a word?
06:59Look, I understand your need to be involved in this, but right now we can't have it look as if
07:03an airline official was conducting the investigation.
07:06You don't understand.
07:08I knew people on that plane, right? The pilots, the attendants. This whole thing is just...
07:16Yeah, I know. It's overwhelming. But you and I were both trained together to deal with this.
07:21Yeah, well, training for it and living it are two different things.
07:24I couldn't agree with you more, Mr. Sherman. Look, you know what we need?
07:30Yeah, um, the passenger lists and the seating assignments, the, uh, repair records, the logs, the cruise personnel records.
07:38Oh, and the, uh, cargo manifest also. And anything else you find that looks like it might be some help
07:44to us.
07:45You know, I think the most important thing for you to do right now is go talk to the families
07:49of the victims, answer the questions as best you can, and try and give them some, give them some comfort.
07:57Look, I can handle this other stuff just fine, but I, I won't know what to say to those people.
08:02Yes, you will. Because you know exactly how they're feeling.
08:07You know what? You with the ME's office?
08:16And you are?
08:18Ron Wagner, FBI liaison. I want priority one to be identifying the bodies.
08:24Don't just stare at me. Get started, now.
08:26Excuse me, but I wasn't aware that this was a criminal investigation.
08:29It's not!
08:31Until there's evidence of criminal activity, this investigation belongs to the NTSB.
08:35The NTSB? You guys have got, what, 80 people scattered around the country?
08:39I could bring twice that many experts in, before noon.
08:42And they'd be doing exactly what we're doing, following exactly the same procedures.
08:46Look, Wagner, you want to give us a hand here? Keep the news crews out of here so they won't
08:50trample the crash site.
08:54I'll get the sheriff's department to handle it.
08:56Good man.
08:58What's your name?
09:00Bentley. Dr. Amanda Bentley.
09:03I remember that.
09:07Is that supposed to scare me?
09:10Spill fire's out or we can go in.
09:12Better put these on.
09:52I thought I'd be prepared for this.
09:55I don't think anything could have prepared for this.
09:59Let's get to work.
10:01Come on, come on.
10:39Come on.
10:40Well, we've completed the four-corner search, Mark.
10:44And every part of the plane has been accounted for except the aft cargo door.
10:48If that door came off in flight, massive decompression could have brought the plane down.
10:52Yeah, it's possible.
10:53Only according to our eyewitnesses, the plane came in low and slow.
10:56It was almost as if the pilot were guiding it in.
10:58Without responding to the tower's radio call, something very serious must have been happening on that plane.
11:05I would say probably more than one something.
11:08We're probably looking at a series of events.
11:10A cascade that began with mechanical failure, pilot error, even a bomb.
11:14Or a fire.
11:16Most of the stuff had blown clear of the crash site, but it's covered with soot.
11:20Could something flammable have been on the plane?
11:22A plane, a foreign operator flying out of Prague, anything is possible.
11:29Guthrie here.
11:33All right, I'll send a team right away.
11:35Air surveys just found that door 30 miles from here.
11:38Along with another little surprise.
11:40All right, let's go.
11:59All right.
12:01Come on, take care of him.
12:25Mark, down here!
12:40Looks like he fell from quite a height.
12:47Along with all this other stuff from that cargo hold,
12:51what was this man doing in the hold?
12:54And what was he doing wearing handcuffs?
13:07There is still no word on the cause of the crash in Flight 224.
13:11However, according to their spokesperson,
13:13the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation is far from over.
13:18Meanwhile, the bodies of the 300 passengers and crew
13:21are being transported to Community General Hospital for Identification,
13:26a task which will likely be difficult and time-consuming,
13:29according to assistant medical examiner, Dr. Amanda Bentley.
13:34The airline still has no official word about those who were on board.
13:38There were no survivors.
13:40According to the...
13:44Excuse me.
13:46Do you see all the work I have to do?
13:48I really don't have time for this.
13:50I did not look at those faxes from Bob because they're not here.
13:53You put them in the outbox ten minutes ago.
13:55If I put them in the outbox ten minutes ago, then I would remember.
14:01I'm sorry.
14:03I'll go help the orderlies.
14:08Hey, Amanda.
14:09I thought I'd come down here and help out.
14:11You may not like it down here.
14:13Well, I'd like it a lot less if I saw you go through this alone.
14:19In that case, you are hired.
14:22Hey, look at that.
14:23I get a merit badge, huh?
14:24Radiation badge.
14:25That's to make sure you're not overexposed to x-rays.
14:27Anyone working in radiology gets one.
14:29I thought I just signed up for pathology.
14:31You did.
14:32But the best way to identify the victims is through their dental records.
14:36Getting good fingerprints at this point is going to be tough.
14:38Burned off.
14:39Or missing.
14:40And your main task will be to take these bodies down to radiology
14:43and try to match them up with their dental x-rays.
14:45Also with the records that their family send us.
14:47Okay.
14:48Sounds easy enough.
14:49Yeah, but some of these people have never seen a dentist before.
14:52Some of them are from overseas.
14:53I mean, that information is going to be very tough to get.
14:56Did they send you a passenger list yet?
14:58Yeah, but that doesn't include the no-shows, the standbys.
15:00We're still waiting for Pac-Atlantic to figure that one out.
15:03Okay, then we do our best until they do.
15:05All right.
15:06Okay.
15:07I'm glad you're here.
15:08The body you found in that field.
15:10I want to see it.
15:10Don't you ever do anything politely?
15:13Not when I'm in a hurry.
15:14Well, then by all means, be my guest.
15:19Who's that?
15:20The FBI's gift to mankind.
15:22Yeah?
15:23Well, I hope they have a return policy.
15:26All right.
15:27You know that guy?
15:33Lieutenant Sloan, LAPD homicide.
15:35You recognize this body?
15:36I'm Ron Wagner, FBI.
15:39This is my investigation.
15:40Well, that man fell into my jurisdiction.
15:42Out of an international flight.
15:44Which means the FBI, which is domestic, shouldn't be involved.
15:47You want to get into jurisdictional nitpicking?
15:49I'd be happy to oblige.
15:50I'm sure you would, Agent Wagner.
15:51No doubt nitpicking was one of your better subjects at Quantico.
15:54Why don't we take this discussion outside?
15:56People are trying to work in here.
16:03Why don't you know they teach nitpicking at Quantico?
16:09I don't mean to jump jurisdictions.
16:11Good call.
16:12Maybe we can help each other, but we just share information.
16:15Yeah, maybe.
16:17Hi.
16:18Something wrong?
16:19Ask Agent Wagner here.
16:21And you are?
16:22Well, I'm Dr. Mark Sloan.
16:23I'm local team coordinator.
16:25A civilian.
16:26Who brought in that body you're so curious about.
16:29You know who that is?
16:31Victor Pavel.
16:32He's seriously connected to the Russian mob.
16:36You know, he had a half a pair of handcuffs on him when we found him.
16:39Pavel was in custody?
16:41Four days ago, Interpol cornered him in a club in St. Petersburg.
16:45My partner, Mike Keegan, went over to escort him back to the United States.
16:50Oh, I'm sorry.
16:51We didn't know your partner was on that plane.
16:53So you think this Pavel character was trying to escape,
16:55but something went wrong and the plane went down instead.
16:57This isn't Mike's fault.
16:59I'm not saying it is.
17:00You know, the fact remains, those cuffs were clipped,
17:02apparently, with bolt cutters,
17:04which is hardly sanded equipment on an airline.
17:06Which means Pavel had to have help,
17:08either before or during the escape.
17:11You know, it was a good idea you two had
17:13about maybe working together on this thing.
17:16I know some guys in the department
17:17who worked a local Russian mob.
17:19Maybe they can give us a lead.
17:21I'll call my people at Interpol,
17:23see what they can turn up on their end.
17:25So, joint jurisdiction on this?
17:27For the moment.
17:30Take what you can get, Sloan.
17:46Come on.
17:49Come on.
18:12Yeah, I'm going to put one of these on.
18:14Okay. Thank you.
18:18Wow. This looks like a three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle.
18:21Well, fortunately, we won't have to reconstruct the entire plane.
18:24Why not?
18:26Well, after Dr. Sloan found the soot on the last row of seats and we located the missing hatch,
18:31we knew to focus on the aft cargo area.
18:33So there definitely was a fire on board.
18:35Oh, yeah. Definitely. I mean, look at this.
18:38I got a county arson investigator to check for thermal damage and fire propagation patterns,
18:44and he traced them back to the flashpoint here.
18:47And it looks like from there it moved into the rear of the plane pretty quickly.
18:51There was a burn through past the floor of the aft coach section.
18:57And the passengers and the crew, you know, they probably suffered smoke inhalation even before the crash.
19:01Oh, they did, and that's what I came to tell you.
19:03Every victim that I examined had soot in their tracheas.
19:06Yeah, I figured they might have.
19:07It happened so fast. Are you sure it wasn't a bomb?
19:10No, we would have found pitting in the airframe.
19:12What about mechanical failure?
19:14No, nothing turned up. I mean, hydraulics, avionics, structural, and I doubt if anything will.
19:20You know, we haven't gotten any airworthiness directives on this plane to indicate a mechanical problem.
19:26Well, maybe the black boxes will help.
19:28No, no. The ones we've recovered are obsolete, less than 12 parameters.
19:33There'll be no record of what happened in the hold.
19:35Well, so your guess would be that the smoke from the fire overwhelmed the crew, they lost control of the
19:40craft, and that caused the accident?
19:42Only I'm not so sure it was just smoke.
19:44You know, you should check the victims for blood, CO2, and cyanide levels.
19:47Cyanide?
19:48The interior of this plane is mostly plastic, Doctor, and when this stuff burns...
19:52Oh, my God.
19:54Oh, and I need one more thing. Ted Sherman has set up a meeting with the victims' families.
19:57I'd really like for you to be there.
19:58I'm afraid I'm not very good at press conferences.
20:01No, no, no, no press, please. I mean, they just upset these people more than they already are.
20:07I only wish we had more answers for them.
20:14Ladies and gentlemen, we've only just begun our investigation, and regrettably,
20:20the truth of these matters often reveals itself according to its own timetable, so...
20:26But whenever we do know something, you will know it.
20:30You deserve our honesty.
20:33And I promise that that's exactly what you'll get.
20:36Dr. Bentley.
20:41Many of you have already spoken to one of our physicians or counselors,
20:47but we ask that you please continue to feel free to call upon them,
20:51because they will be available to you for as long as you need them.
20:57I think what we all want most is to know when we can get our...
21:06My husband, Louis Trent, was on that flight.
21:10I'd like to take him home.
21:15We're working as fast as we can, Mrs. Trent.
21:17It simply takes time.
21:20Mr. Guthrie has promised you all the truth.
21:25And the truth is, is that we will work through this as quickly as possible.
21:33Um, Back Atlantic has made arrangements at the Star 5 Hotel
21:38to provide you with rooms and meals
21:41and whatever other services you may require
21:43until the NTSB has completed its work
21:47and, uh, your loved ones are returned to you.
21:51Um, if you want to come with me,
21:53we have buses waiting to take you there.
21:59I'll get on those toxicology reports.
22:19Dr. Bentley.
22:20Oh, listen, if you want any more of the victims' IDs,
22:22you'll have to speak to my staff. I'm terribly busy.
22:25I know how hard it is talking to these people.
22:29You've got a lot of experience?
22:31More than I ever wanted.
22:33Oklahoma City, Montana, the Republic of Texas mess.
22:37They never get used to it.
22:39Their emotions trip you up every time.
22:41Why do you act like you don't care?
22:43Emotions and jobs aren't a very good mix.
22:45You pay too much attention to one, you don't do the other one very well.
22:47So this is about maintaining efficiency, huh?
22:50Equilibrium.
22:51You lose that, you can't help anybody.
22:53Hey, you two are actually speaking to each other, huh?
22:56Well, uh, I couldn't help myself.
22:58You see, he's a better nitpicker than I am.
23:00Well, good, because I need you to see this.
23:06Well, he's pretty badly burned, but he had on half a pair of handcuffs,
23:10and so I figured it was your partner even before I checked the dental records.
23:19Uh, I'm sorry.
23:21Um, we took this out of him.
23:24It's a, uh, a bullet.
23:25A bullet?
23:26Yeah, here.
23:31This is from a .38.
23:33Mike used a 9mm and a .32 backup.
23:36Which means someone must have smuggled a gun on board for Pavel
23:39as well as a pair of bolt cutters.
23:44What the hell happened up there?
23:55Why stall?
23:56We tell the press the FBI is taking over.
23:58Not yet.
23:59Look, this is a criminal matter, and we both know it.
24:01There was gunfire in the hold, Keegan got shot,
24:04Pavel tried to escape and got himself killed.
24:06And I'm not disagreeing with you, but it's not my call.
24:08It's up to our bosses in Washington.
24:10And until they make the decision, I'm still in charge.
24:13Well, you know, I would be in such a hurry to dismiss the NTSB anyway.
24:16Bringing a whole new team of investigators up to speed
24:19is going to waste a lot of valuable time.
24:20And can you really say that my people are doing such a lousy job?
24:22No, you guys do good work, but my guys will do better.
24:26Inspector Guthrie, isn't it true there was some kind of gun battle on Flight 224?
24:31You know, as I said at the outset,
24:34this investigation has really just begun,
24:36and until it's completed, I'm not going to have any...
24:37We've learned there was a federal agent escorting a prisoner on the plane.
24:40Wasn't this agent shot and killed in the course of the flight?
24:42And didn't his prisoner fire the fatal shot
24:45as part of some terrorist suicide mission?
24:49This press conference is at an end.
24:51Thank you all very much.
24:53Wait, please.
24:55The others have asked me to speak for all of us.
24:59We'd like to make a request.
25:01You have our complete attention.
25:04Oh, we want...
25:06We want to place a memorial wreath at the crash site.
25:10Packet Clinic has no problem with that.
25:13We'd be glad to provide assistance, transportation, whatever you folks need.
25:17I mean, the crash site's been secured.
25:22I don't see how the investigation could be compromised.
25:25Uh, what, this afternoon all right?
25:27How about this afternoon?
25:29Oh, thank you. Thank you very much.
25:31Thank you all very much.
25:41Hey, Mark.
25:41Hi, Dad.
25:42You should take a look at this.
25:44Sure.
25:47Doggone it. Would you read that for me? I can't see.
25:49Yeah. Well, we just finished the final body count of the plane.
25:52And get this, two passengers are definitely missing.
25:56Check the manifest?
25:57Checked and triple-checked.
25:59I even talked to the reps of Packet Atlantic
26:01who loaded the plane in Prague.
26:02But no matter how you add it up...
26:04Two passengers who were supposed to be on that plane are unaccounted for.
26:07Did you tell Guthrie?
26:08He's sending out search teams all along the plane's route,
26:10starting from where they found Victor Pavel.
26:12I have a feeling those search teams are going to come up empty-handed.
26:14Still, it's a good idea to do a background check on the two missing ones.
26:18Maybe we'll get some answers.
26:19Right.
26:19Once you've got a good idea.
26:21But there's still a good chance those passengers went missing
26:23because some bureaucrat erased the wrong file.
26:25Which is why you're going to do the IDs all over again.
26:29I'll have to clear it with Dr. Bentley first.
26:31Eh, don't bother.
26:32I'll talk to her.
27:06Just in time, Agent Wagner.
27:08Why don't you just come in and enjoy the show?
27:16There's damn little I'm enjoying about any of this.
27:20Yeah, I got the, uh, got the toxicology reports back on the crash, right?
27:27And the, uh, the CO2 and the cyanide levels in their blood were way above the lethal limit.
27:36So that would mean...
27:39That would mean that for about three or four minutes while that fire was spreading that cyanide gas throughout the
27:45plane,
27:45those poor people were...
27:49I'm sorry.
27:53I know I should be more professional about this, but, you know.
28:09I spent my first seven years at the Bureau behind a desk, shuffling surveillance reports.
28:17And then I finally got my first field assignment.
28:21Oklahoma City.
28:24I was with the team that went through the, uh, daycare center.
28:30My first hour on the job, I lost it.
28:33Twice.
28:37Third time I would have been out of there.
28:40But then this other agent, uh, gave me a hand.
28:47There's Mike Keegan.
28:52I met him that day.
28:53He, uh, he took me aside and he talked to me.
29:00Then I pulled myself back together and went to work.
29:08The funny thing is, I...
29:11I can't really remember what it was he said to me.
29:15If I could, I'd say it to you now.
29:21I think you just did.
29:25Thanks.
29:32Well, thank you.
29:33Good.
29:45Good.
29:48Good.
29:49Good.
30:23What is it, Sloan?
30:26Just this.
30:27My sources tell me that Victor Pavel's partner in crime is one Serge Ostrowski.
30:32I know that.
30:33The Bureau knows that.
30:35The CIA and Interpol know it, and now you know it, too.
30:38But do any of you guys know that he's holed up in a loft downtown?
30:44Our backup should be here in five minutes.
30:46We can't wait that long.
30:47You take the back.
30:49I'll take the front.
30:50Wagner.
30:58Freeze.
30:59FBI.
31:05I said freeze.
31:15Fight's over.
31:16Drop the knife.
31:21Good timing.
31:22You should see me on a good day.
31:26Talk about what?
31:28Be specific, please.
31:29Victor Pavel.
31:31Did you smuggle a gun to him on flight 224 or not?
31:36This is a very bad joke.
31:38Victor doesn't think so.
31:40He's dead.
31:40Along with his FBI escort and about 300 other people.
31:43And you had nothing to do with it, right?
31:46Duh.
31:47In first place, I wouldn't help Victor.
31:49That man was, how you say it here, a freak.
31:51He killed more friends than enemies.
31:53We're supposed to think you guys are ex-partners?
31:55Well, why do you think I'm in City of Angels?
31:57I wanted to be as far away from that govnook as I could go.
32:00If you're so happy here, why were you running?
32:03Who's running?
32:04I'm upwardly mobile.
32:06I have wife on fan fan, two kids in therapy, new home in Beverly Hills.
32:10This is America.
32:11What you've got is a cell down at County.
32:14Because in America, you pull a knife on a cop, you go to jail.
32:25Another dead end.
32:27You may be dead yourself if you don't get that looked at.
32:30Not until after we book these guys.
32:32Shouldn't take more than an hour or so.
32:36Right about the time your favorite doctor comes back on duty, huh?
32:45Now, that's the pilot.
32:48Get the hell out of here.
32:50And this is the hijacker.
32:52Shut up.
32:52Do as I say.
32:53Pull circuit breaker on comm one.
32:55Reduce speed to 170.
32:58That's the pilot again.
32:59We could stall out.
33:00It's the hijacker.
33:02And decompress aft cargo hold.
33:05Do this or I start shooting passengers now.
33:08Wow.
33:09That's pretty dramatic stuff.
33:10And that's from the cockpit voice recorder.
33:13And it answers a lot of questions.
33:15Okay.
33:16Let's assume Pavel knocked out his escort, Mike Keegan, and cut himself free from his handcuffs.
33:21So what did he do next?
33:24Well, he got his hands on a weapon.
33:26It was Keegan's gun.
33:27If Keegan was shot with a .38, that's not what he was carrying.
33:30Well, then he got someone to smuggle a gun on board before they left Prague.
33:34Anyway, after he threatened the pilot, his next stop was the aft cargo hold.
33:41This opening is pre-crash.
33:44My guess is Pavel smashed his way into the hold through the bulkhead wall of the third floor galley.
33:50And then Keegan revived, followed him down here, and used his backup weapon.
33:54And had one hell of a gunfight.
33:55Yeah.
33:56I mean, we pulled bullet fragments out of three different spots in the hold.
33:59Then Keegan died here.
34:04Yeah, and at the same time, the gunshots ignited this emergency oxygen canister.
34:15The fire began, which eventually brought down the plane.
34:18And then Pavel kicked out the aft cargo door and jumped to his death.
34:22Well, he bailed out, actually.
34:23The sheriff's department just sent me this.
34:27They found a parachute floating in Lake Casitas.
34:30That's not far from where Pavel was found.
34:32Yeah.
34:34So Pavel smuggled on a parachute aboard the plane, along with the bolt cutters and the gun.
34:39All this loss of life so that one man could attempt an escape.
34:42Which almost worked.
34:44See, Pavel knew enough to order the pilot to fly the plane at a slow stall speed.
34:48Otherwise, he never survived the jump.
34:50But he didn't survive.
34:51Well, because the chute wasn't strapped on properly.
34:53That still doesn't explain what happened to the two missing passengers.
34:57I don't know.
34:57My guess is they never even got on the plane.
34:59Maybe they were lucky that day.
35:00Slept late.
35:01Missed the flight.
35:09Ouch.
35:11Are you sure you used an anesthetic?
35:14My patients don't usually complain.
35:16Your patients are usually dead.
35:18That can be arranged.
35:20Now, this laceration's pretty deep.
35:22Maybe I should have had a surgeon handle it in the O.R.
35:25I don't know how the time.
35:27Why?
35:27Bad guys have already been caught.
35:29What else is left to be done?
35:33I suppose there's always work to be done.
35:36Well, work is definitely better than real life.
35:39Tell me about it.
35:41I just got a divorce.
35:43Not fun.
35:45Do you?
35:46Never been married.
35:48But I've had more than one broken relationship.
35:53Aren't you going to say something like, uh, that figures?
35:55Nope.
35:56Too easy.
35:58Dr. Zimmerman, recovery.
36:00I don't regret joining the Bureau.
36:02It's just that most women are a little, you know, turned off by the badge and the gun.
36:07Really?
36:09I'm around guns and badges all the time.
36:12They don't turn me off.
36:15But then again, most men don't find the scent of formaldehyde much of an aphrodisiac either.
36:21Would depend on the woman who's wearing it, I suppose.
36:26I suppose.
36:35I suppose.
36:43Amanda.
36:45Amanda.
36:50You were right about the formaldehyde.
36:52Definitely not an aphrodisiac.
36:56Hey.
36:57What kind of doctor are you?
36:59I'm an injured man, remember?
37:01Mm.
37:01I don't see any signs of diminished physical capacity.
37:06You won't either.
37:17Oh, this is going to be a long day.
37:21Which is why we ought to get some sleep.
37:23I don't think so.
37:25Hey.
37:26Mm-hmm?
37:26How much time do you get on one of these snooze alarm things?
37:29About nine minutes.
37:31Well, my alarm and I are very good friends.
37:34It's a lucky alarm.
37:37Mm-hmm.
37:46This is worse than a cold shower.
37:50Stitches.
37:54Going through a tunnel.
37:56Bath signal.
37:58Where were we?
38:13That was not nine minutes.
38:16I want my nine minutes.
38:17Is that all you want?
38:21No.
38:24Neither do I.
38:38We found a gun in the cargo hold.
38:41Agent Wagner has confirmed that it was Mike Keegan's backup weapon.
38:45We believe Victor Pavel took Agent Keegan's primary weapon,
38:48used the bolt cutters to free himself and head for the aft cargo hold.
38:51Keegan pulled his backup weapon, followed Pavel below, and a gun battle ensued.
38:55And your partner was killed.
38:57And the gunshots ignited a fire, which didn't leave Pavel much time to bail out.
39:01In his haste, he failed to secure his parachute properly.
39:03Wind pressure ripped it off, and he fell to his death.
39:06And then smoke and cyanide gas disabled the crew, and that caused the crash.
39:11End of story.
39:12Well, except maybe it's not the right one.
39:14There are just too many things here.
39:15It don't make any sense at all.
39:16Like what?
39:17Well, the two missing passengers, for one thing.
39:19What if the voice we heard on the cockpit recorder was one of theirs and not Pavel's?
39:23Come on, doctor.
39:24That's not even reasonable.
39:25Well, is it more reasonable to assume that a trained agent like your partner
39:29would let a man who was handcuffed to him overwhelm him that easily?
39:33If there were two men on the plane,
39:34that would mean that Mike Keegan was taken by surprise,
39:36and there wasn't anything he could do to stop it.
39:39And if that were true, it doesn't change the rest of the scenario.
39:42It's still a failed rescue attempt.
39:44Well, not necessarily.
39:45I checked the cargo manifest against what was found,
39:48and there's a shipment from Bavaria Express, and it's still missing.
39:53It's probably out near where Pavel landed.
39:55It doesn't mean anything.
39:56Oh, wait a minute, wait a minute.
39:57What do you think it means, Mark?
39:59Obviously, those hijackers knew that plane because they disabled the radio.
40:02Now, why didn't they disable the voice recorder?
40:05Why did they leave it there for us to hear?
40:07And why didn't they make sure that Pavel's parachute was secured?
40:11They were sloppy.
40:12Oh, I don't think so.
40:13This whole thing was so well planned and so well executed.
40:17I don't think they ever intended for Pavel to escape.
40:19They left that voice recorder running on purpose
40:22so that we would come to the wrong conclusion.
40:24Yeah, so we'd go after the Russian mafia
40:26instead of looking for the real answer.
40:28The missing cargo.
40:29Exactly.
40:31Dr. Sloan, we have a simple answer for the crash and what caused it.
40:34I don't need an amateur sleuth complicating things
40:37with bizarre convoluted theories.
40:39We're done here.
40:50How could you just walk out like that?
40:52I don't need someone trying to convince me
40:54that what I know is true is false.
40:55It must be nice to be so damn sure of yourself.
40:57I've seen some cases like this before.
40:59I know what I'm doing.
40:59Well, so does Mark.
41:00And I've known that man for a long time
41:02and he has incredible insights into things
41:04that just don't make sense to the rest of us.
41:05The case makes perfect sense.
41:06Well, it does if you think you have all the answers
41:08but you refuse to look at the questions.
41:10Now, what would it hurt to check, huh?
41:13Except maybe your pride if you're wrong
41:15and Mark is right.
41:24I'm getting transported to the crash site for this wreath-laying thing.
41:28Okay, Sherman, I got a job for you.
41:29Get lost.
41:31Go ahead.
41:33I've already got a job.
41:35You've got a clipboard.
41:36I've got lost cargo.
41:38Bavaria Express shipped something on 224 and it's missing.
41:42So?
41:42So I want you to find out what it was,
41:44whether it was actually on that plane
41:46and who Bavaria Express really is.
41:48Oh, come on.
41:48They have been shipping cargo with us for years.
41:51It is a perfectly legitimate outfit.
41:53Check it out.
41:57After I do this...
41:58Sherman!
41:59I'll get to it!
42:02This is more than about cargo, Agent Wagner.
42:06Right now it's about people.
42:07I'll get to it.
42:14All right, let's go.
42:42Mrs. Trent, I'm Dr. Mike Sloan. Can I help you?
42:46Oh, yes, from the press conference. I remember you.
42:50Thank you for speaking up for us.
42:52You know, there was quite an eloquent plea you made for yourself. I was impressed.
42:56Well, one of the counselors told us that closure's important in a situation like this.
43:00I guess that's really what I was trying to do.
43:04I lost my wife. You know, it's been a while back, but the hole that leaves never quite closes.
43:12It's smaller with time.
43:13Mrs. Trent?
43:14Well, I guess they're ready to take you out to the side.
43:18Thank you, Dr. Sloan. I won't forget what you said.
43:34How's it going?
43:35Well, how many consecutive shifts have you pulled, Jesse?
43:40I don't know. I quit counting sometime last Christmas.
43:43I can't wait to get back in the ER.
43:45Well, the FBI has taken over. You won't have to do double duty much longer.
43:48I'm in a bad mood.
43:50Doctors, we have a problem.
43:51What is it, Jay?
43:53That was a radiation safety officer.
43:55He just processed our badges, and they came back foggy.
43:58Excessive radiation?
43:59How much?
44:00Not too bad, but he wants to check our new badges, and he's running some diagnostics down in radiology.
44:05But that's nuts.
44:06I haven't had that badge on for more than two days, and you haven't even been down in radiology yet.
44:11Get a Geiger card in here, Jan.
44:25Get a Geiger card in here.
44:42I'll call you.
44:43Amanda.
44:49I'm sorry.
44:51Look, it's just that last night mattered to me.
44:53And last night was important to me, too, but right now I don't know what to think.
44:58Amanda, you're the only sane and decent thing that's happened to me in a long time.
45:03I want to hold on to that.
45:04You don't act like it.
45:06Stop acting like a closed-minded ass, and please let us help you with this investigation.
45:10I still think Dr. Sloan is wrong, but I did tell Ted Sherman to check on that missing cargo just
45:17to be sure.
45:19In any case, that's all going to be over with sooner rather than later.
45:22What's more important to me is our we.
45:30Let's help Jesse with those records.
45:38Yeah, what's the radio about?
45:40Okay, when you're done, I'll have to check on the bodies downstairs.
45:43What the hell is going on?
45:45The Christ victims.
45:46They're all radioactive.
45:47Let's go.
