That's after Donald Trump's claim that he is discussing arms sales to Taipei with Chinese President Xi Jinping was condemned by Democratic lawmakers as a “blatant violation” of Washington’s longstanding Six Assurances, dating back to the Reagan era.

00:13Chinese President Xi Jinping and that he would soon make a decision on the issue.
00:17Trump is set to meet Xi in April as he looks for a trade deal with Beijing.
00:22Representative Ro Khanna, who serves on the House Committee on China,
00:25called Trump's admission a blatant violation of Washington's six assurances to Taiwan
00:30dating back to the 1980s. The second of those states that the U.S. has not agreed to consult
00:36with China on arms sales to Taiwan. Senator Andy Kim made a similar statement on X,
00:41accusing Trump of abandoning U.S. policy on Taiwan. These six assurances are non-binding,
00:46though there is a move in Congress to see them pass into law.
