01:15VivaTech 2023 is now open.

01:25Welcome to everyone for four incredible days.
01:30And we are extremely, extremely happy to welcome you. Pierre?
01:35Yes, well, good morning everyone.
01:37It's almost incredible for me to say that each year, it is a growing pleasure to be here with all
01:44of you guys
01:44and to see in your faces the expectations that you can have from this event.
01:50So welcome to VivaTech.
01:52We have prepared a very special edition for you.
01:54And I think all of you know that VivaTech is this incredible mixture of experiencing technology.
02:00You can look at it, you can see it, you can see it move, you can see it fly, you
02:03can see it change the world.
02:05It's also making business connections.
02:08For most of the startups coming to the event, about 40% of the leads that they generate during the
02:15whole year are generated at VivaTech.
02:17So it's going to be very big.
02:18And let's go into the specifics of this edition.
02:21So I would like to remind you that last year we had India as country of the year, Monsieur l
02:30'Ambassadeur.
02:31And this year we are extremely proud to welcome Korea as country of the year.
02:38So it's an honor, it's a pleasure,
02:44and it is also a recognition of what Korea is all about when it comes to innovation, initiatives,
02:53great large corporations, and also an ecosystem of startups which is quite unique.
03:02So I'm extremely honored to welcome you.
03:05And we will hear from Minister Lee Young in a few minutes.
03:11But maybe we can say a few words about your favorite part of VivaTech, which is sport.
03:17As you see, we have an athlete with us, Pierre Louette.
03:22It's too much, too much, no.
03:24You don't want to know about my real physical condition.
03:26But just in a few words, France has really become a very big technology country,
03:32and I think Jean-Noël Baur will approve.
03:35But France is also a very big country when it comes to sports.
03:38So we decided this year that one year before the Olympics,
03:43we wanted to show you the future of sports.
03:46So we've organized a very special presentation of the interactions between technology and sports,
03:53the way technology can transform a sport, enhance the experience,
03:57and also give birth to new sports.
03:59It will be presented and featured here with the partner we have, the Global Sports Week.
04:04And you will find out about many things that you don't even imagine that are related to sports.
04:11VivaTech is a physical experience in many ways,
04:13and this will be proven in our future sports hall.
04:16Yes, that's the reason why I'm wearing high-heeled shoes.
04:22We also recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion,
04:28and you will have a lot of possibilities of connecting with the people
04:33who are really changing the world in this regard.
04:38And it is also the case when it comes to climate change and energy.
04:43And I invite you to visit the Impact Mile,
04:47where you will see a lot of innovation which are contributing to solving the problem of our planet.

04:56So, you know, the main thematics of our event, climate, diversity, sports, I mentioned.
05:02Obviously, AI is going to be one of the big topics this year.
05:08As all of you know, with the appearance of the latest generation of LLM,
05:15ChatGPT 3, 4, we have seen 4 billions of connections in less than 5 months,
05:20so it's a huge attraction now.
05:23We will try to show you all the implications of AI in the technological and in the world in general.
05:30For all of us, we mentioned previously that in tech we trust.
05:35This is something that is very strong in our hearts.
05:37But we trust tech when it comes with open sourcing and when it comes with regulation.
05:42And I think that's really something.
05:44Give birth to new technologies.
05:46Let AI be something that makes our lives richer.
05:50For us, AI is something that exhausts human intelligence.
05:54AI helps human intelligence be even better.
05:57But it comes with regulation.
05:59It comes with transparency.
06:01And this will be shown in many, many places here.
06:04This year, we have about 25% of the startups coming to VivaTech that have something to do with AI.
06:11It was only 8% last year.
06:12So it shows the whole development of this technology.
06:16So we will have great speakers and regarding AI, we will have a conversation between Yann Lequin, who is the
06:26head of AI at Meta, with Jacques Attali, who is a writer and the founder of Planet Finance.
06:39We will have this afternoon, President Macron, and he will probably share with us a few news.
06:49Tomorrow, on Thursday, we will be filled again by a lot of AI, but also talks on digital transformation, cyber
06:58security.
06:59And we will have great, great speakers, among which we will have Marc Benioff, the founder of Salesforce, who is
07:09coming.
07:10He never does that.
07:12And he will be with us.
07:14And on Friday, on Friday, we will have Pierre, who will be managing a conversation, moderating a conversation on media.
07:26Yes, we will have a lot of conversations on the media.
07:29We will have the incredible lineup of speakers.
07:32And I think I really want to thank Maurice, because Maurice is absolutely instrumental in having all of those people

08:01He has been the treasury secretary for Obama.
08:06He has been the head of Harvard University.

08:13So we will hear from him.
08:15And this is quite amazing to have him.
08:19But we will have also a young start-upper, somebody you never heard about, with a lot of imagination.
08:25Somebody called Elon Musk.
08:29Elon Musk.
08:30And Elon has accepted to come with us, which is quite impressive and we are extremely, extremely happy.
08:38Well, so in a nutshell, thanks to all of you for being with us.
08:43Thanks for making this event an incredible experience, the largest event in Europe now.

09:44Thank you very much, Pierre, dear François, Minister Lee, excellencies, hello everyone and welcome to Paris.
09:51Seven years ago, when VivaTech first opened its doors, France was seen as a country with a thick accent, great
10:03food and wine,
10:06but heavy taxation, tough regulation, terrible labor laws.
10:12Seven years later, under the impulse of President Macron, and thanks to great initiatives like VivaTech,
10:20things have changed.
10:22We still have the thick accent, we still have the great food and wine,
10:27but we have lower taxation, we have softened regulation, we have streamlined labor laws.
10:35And we are seeing the results of that with record low unemployment, record high business creations,
10:42and record high startup activity.
10:46We've created tens of thousands of startups, we've grown hundreds of scale-ups,
10:55we've raised dozens of unicorns.
10:58And this is the result of a general action and mobilization around the entrepreneurial scene.
11:07And France has finally reconnected with its deep and true nature of an entrepreneurial and innovative nation.
11:16And VivaTech has been instrumental in this cultural revolution.
11:21Because over the years, VivaTech has become the number one event building bridges between startups and corporates,
11:31between France and the rest of the world, between women and tech, between impact and tech.
11:39So we are very grateful to Maurice, to Pierre, and all the VivaTech teams that every year build these bridges
11:48and have allowed us over the years to achieve this cultural revolution.
11:55And VivaTech will be instrumental in the revolutions to come.
11:59Because looking at 2030, we, with the French President, with Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of Economy and Finance,
12:07we have great ambitions for the decade to come.
12:11And this ambition is threefold.
12:14It is about sovereignty, it is about diversity, it is about sustainability.
12:21The first of this ambition is sovereignty.
12:25And let me tell you that in 2030, the entrepreneurs, the French entrepreneurs, will be scientists taking innovation out of
12:34the lab
12:35and turning them into entrepreneurial innovation.
12:39We have great scientific discoveries in the labs of our universities.
12:44What we need to do now, after a decade of entrepreneurial success in the digital space,
12:52is to turn those scientific discoveries into entrepreneurial success.
12:57And let me give you two examples to show you what I have in mind
13:02when I say the next generation of entrepreneurs will be scientists.
13:06The first one is Alain Aspect.
13:08Alain Aspect was Nobel Prize in quantum physics last year,
13:11but he is also the co-founder of several startups that you will meet in VivaTech,
13:17such as Pascal and Candela.
13:19He was able to inspire a generation of entrepreneurs among his students
13:26after they graduated from their PhD,
13:28that are now at the forefront of innovation in quantum.
13:34Example number one.
13:36Example number two is Arthur Mensch.
13:39Have you heard about Arthur Mensch?
13:41Arthur Mensch and his team graduated from French universities,
13:46from a PhD in artificial intelligence.
13:50And yesterday, they raised the largest ever seed round of financing
13:55for a startup called Mistral that is developing a model in generative AI
13:59that is going to challenge some of the most successful generative AI models
14:04that you've heard about in the past few weeks, in the past few months.
14:08This is what entrepreneurs will look like in 2030.
14:13And VivaTech will be a very important and instrumental vector for this to happen.
14:18And I'm very grateful that Pierre and that Boris allowed so much space for AI
14:23and generative AI to showcase those solutions this week in Paris.
14:29Chapter number two.
14:34The next generation of entrepreneurs, the entrepreneur in 2030, will be women.
14:40We need much more, many more women in tech.
14:45It is a question of efficiency and innovation because, as you know,
14:50IQ is equally distributed among men and women.
14:54We have insufficient women in tech, and so we are not tapping the talent pool.
15:02We need those talents.
15:04We need this IQ to come into tech, to come into the entrepreneurial scene.
15:08And here again, VivaTech is going to be instrumental in showcasing entrepreneurial success
15:16driven by female entrepreneurs, but also showcasing femtech with the femtech village,
15:23but also opening the doors of the technological scene to young women.
15:29And Saturday, here in VivaTech, you will see a lot of students, a lot of young girls,
15:35coming to VivaTech to discover that tech is an opportunity for them.
15:40Chapter three is sustainability.
15:43And the next generation of entrepreneurs, the entrepreneurs of 2030,
15:47will be fighting climate change.
15:50France is now the most vibrant green tech ecosystem.
15:54And you will see in VivaTech many of cutting-edge solutions developed by French startups
16:01to decarbonize mobility, to decarbonize agriculture, or to provide digital solutions
16:08to help every company, every organization in the world achieve their environmental transition.
16:16Here again, VivaTech is going to be instrumental,
16:19and I'm very grateful about the organization of the Impact Mile,
16:23that will be a very powerful way to showcase how technology can help us achieve
16:29and overcome the challenge of climate change.
16:34Sovereignty, diversity, sustainability, this is what VivaTech will help us achieve
16:41in the decade to come, and I'm very grateful for the organizers of this great meeting
16:46that has become one of the most important rendezvous around the world for technology.
16:54Around the world because people are coming from around the world together in Paris for VivaTech.
17:00And today there is one specific country that we are very honored to receive as the special guest.
17:07And this country is Korea.
17:10We have a lot to learn from Korea, from Korean successes.
17:14And it was a great pleasure to meet earlier this year with Minister Lee,
17:20that will speak on stage in a few minutes, that taught me a number of things.
17:24A number of things, and one of them in particular,
17:28that I would like you to take away from my speech this morning.
17:32It is the Korean heart.
17:35The finger heart that you can showcase yourself,
17:39and that I invite you to use this week at the salon as a tribute to the Korean tech
17:48and to Korea as the country of honor.
17:50So you use your thumb, you use your index,
17:53and you basically draft a heart.
17:57So you can do it as a practical exercise.
18:00And since Korea will be at the heart of VivaTech this year,
18:03you can use this as a tribute to Korea throughout this week.
