00:00After winning the Carabao Cup in 2025, which snapped the club's 70-year wait for a domestic trophy,
00:06Newcastle were hungry for more.
00:09And for the third time in four seasons, the Magpies were one of the final four teams left in the
00:15same competition they saluted in last year.
00:18But their reign as the Carabao Cup holders ended in a one-sided semi-final against Manchester City,
00:25continuing their horrible record at the Etihad.
00:29The 3-1 loss means Newcastle have gone 12 games without a win in the blue half of Manchester,
00:34their worst ever run against a single opponent on the road.
00:39Yeah, it is painful, I think.
00:41We obviously loved the ride that we had last year and lifting the cup and all the moments and memories
00:46that that brought.
00:47It was an incredible experience and we were desperate to do it again.
00:51Definitely can't fault the players' attitude in terms of what they've given.
00:54They hadn't scored at City since 2018 until Anthony Alanga netted a consolation goal in the 5-1 aggregate defeat,
01:02having trailed 2-0 after the first leg.
01:06We were craving that first goal, we didn't get it, and when Manchester City gets it, you know, our task
01:13becomes even more difficult in saying that we had good opportunities to score in both halves.
01:18And I think if you add up all our opportunities in both games against them in this tie, there's a
01:23lot of missed opportunities in front of goal, which ultimately I think has cost us.
01:29Eddie Howe's side are feeling the pinch after a gruelling run of fixtures, which included trips to Liverpool, Paris Saint
01:35-Germain and Manchester City.
01:39And looking at their upcoming games, things aren't going to get much easier.
01:48They travel to Tottenham and Aston Villa before facing City for the fourth time this season.
01:54There's also a long trip to Carabag, followed by tough tests against Manchester United and Chelsea.
02:01We are playing, you know, every three, two, three days.
02:09We're finding it difficult in this moment, having just played Paris, Liverpool and Manchester City away.
02:13That's a tough schedule for any team to face, and we're doing it with the number of injuries that we
02:17have.
02:17And they're not excuses, it's just, that's the reality.
02:21Newcastle are experiencing just how hectic a season can be when you fight on multiple fronts.
02:26It's stretched their squads to the absolute limit.
02:31Between late January and March, the Magpies face a relentless run of matches that could define their season across all
02:38competitions.
02:39But their reign as the Carabao Cup holders is over after a semi-final drubbing to Manchester City,
02:46continuing their horrible record at the Etihad.
