The South Australian Labor government has pledged to pump funding into training opportunities if it wins the March state elections as it faces the task of building workforce capacity to deliver on South Australia's AUKUS commitments. Thousands of extra skilled workers will be needed to construct a new shipyard and nuclear-powered submarines but the government says it's putting plans in place to meet demand.

00:21Attention now turning to workforce with 4,000 skilled workers needed to build the yard

00:36The government pledging $27 million for more training opportunities,
00:40including 550 new apprenticeships, 300 university scholarships and upskilling pathways.
00:46Adding to the workforce challenge,
00:48workers will also be needed over coming years for other major infrastructure projects,
00:52including the South Road Tunnels and the new Women's and Children's Hospital.
00:56But the Premier says they won't detract from each other.
01:00We've got confidence that we'll be able to get this done,
01:02but not without the investment in the workforce like we're seeing through these programs here.
01:06But not everyone's on board.
01:08These are jobs that are likely not going to materialise, but they're also putting South Australia at risk.
