00:12Tucked away in bustling Pataling Jaya is Kampung Champaka, a village that moves at its own
00:18gentle pace and embodies the closeness of Kampung life.
00:22When Chinese New Year arrives, red lanterns sway from trees and in homes, casting a festive
00:28flow across the village, a far cry from the village's early years of hardship.
00:34First of all, no water, no electricity, and then the road, no tarmac. Yeah, very inconvenience.
00:43And transportation, initially there's no bus coming in.
00:48Other villagers remember those early years the same way.
00:57Still, Chinese New Year brought neighbours together.
01:00They were always in each other's homes, forming bonds that lasted beyond the festivities.
01:06Today, that sense of community is still felt by the next generation.
01:10We were left to talk to see if we had rice, please.
01:16We need to share what they wanted to do with the garden.
01:18I hear a lot of applause because I still have the residents of Kampung deliberately.
01:24For this says that it was very nice.
01:44Today, Lim works hard to keep those ties strong, organizing activities to bring the community together.
01:51This includes a village-wide Chinese New Year celebration every year where young and old gather.
01:58I feel so happy and happy because we can gather together like a family.
02:08We eat together, we sing together.
02:14I feel that it's a feeling that I don't feel like a place in other places.
02:21I feel that we are very happy.
02:26Kampung Chempaka may have a history of hardship, but over time, the people here have turned it into a truly
02:32special place.
02:34A place called home that embodies the true meaning of Chinese New Year.
02:38That of hope, abundance, and a closer sense of family.
02:44Kungsifatai, dari kami penduduk Kampung Chempaka.
02:51Tivia Ragu and Sheila Vajian, FMT.
