10:56Honor Guard. To perform the Star Spangled Banner, please welcome Grammy award-winning artist and an icon, Brandy.
11:26By the dawn's early light, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, whose broad stripes and bright stars
11:52through the perilous fight. All the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming, and the rocket's red glare.
12:18The bombs bursting in air and gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
12:39Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
12:41Oh, the land of the free and the home of the brave.
12:46Thank y'all.
12:58Thank y'all.
13:01And the home of the brave
13:09Thank y'all!
13:16One more time for Brandy and June's Diary,
13:20the Los Angeles Fire Department Honor Guard
13:23and Sarah McLachlan.
13:31Kobe Bryant twice represented the United States
13:39in the Olympics.
13:43In 2008, here's what he said
13:46about competing with USA on his chest.
13:50Tell the story of when you first got your USA uniform.
13:54Well, I had goosebumps,
13:55and I actually just looked at it for a while.
13:57I just stared at it for a few minutes.
14:01Just because it's a kid growing up,
14:05this is the ultimate, ultimate in basketball.
14:08What a play!
14:11Tonight, 16 players have earned the right
14:13to wear USA letters on their jersey.
14:17As the game's greatest talent showcase
14:20unveils a completely new format.
14:22United States of America.
14:26They take on the rest of the world's best
14:28in the same building that will host Olympic basketball
14:31two years from now.
14:34From Los Angeles,
14:36it's the NBA All-Star Game.
14:38Next, on NBC.
14:40And we welcome you to the 75th NBA All-Star Game
14:56from Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.
14:59We've got a great day planned,
15:01and let's go through this three-team round-robin format.
15:03We've got Team USA Stars, Team USA Stripes,
15:06and Team World.
15:08With USA Stars and World in Game 1,
15:11the winner stays on to face the stripes.
15:13The loser from Game 1 takes on the stripes in Game 3.
15:16The championship will be comprised
15:17of the top two teams based on record
15:20and point differential.
15:21Hello.
15:22Welcome courtside.
15:23Noah Eagle, the Hall of Famer,
15:24Reggie Miller, three-time six-man of the year,
15:25Jamal Crawford, Zora Stevenson,
15:27and Ashley Shomity.
15:28So glad you could join us
15:29for what is now the main event of All-Star Weekend.
15:32So excited for this one.
15:33This is the main event,
15:35and if that tease from Kobe
15:36is any indication on what's going to go down tonight,
15:39he's smiling down on us, Jamal, from heaven,
15:42because he's going to love the competition
15:44that's going to take place.
15:46Reggie, I got goosebumps watching Kobe come back,
15:48and these guys are setting the tone.
15:50These are the best players in the world,
15:51and I'm talking to some of them.
15:52They cannot wait to play today.
15:53We feel like there's going to be some legit effort,
15:56certainly with these 12-minute periods
15:58as they continue to play with one another.
16:00So we've met every player.
16:01Let's meet those stars.
16:02Oklahoma State.
16:04Tyrese Maxey, University of Kentucky.
16:07Devin Booker, University of Kentucky.
16:09Anthony Edwards, Worldwide.
16:12Naila Noren, University of Memphis.
16:22Jamal Murray, University of Kentucky.
16:25Luka Doncic, Slovenia.
16:26Danny Avdia, Hritsalia, Israel.
16:30Nikol Jokic, Serbian.
16:32Dito Urmenyama, from France.
16:34So that is our first game,
16:39and it'll be those 10 that started with Team World and USA Stars.
16:43Brand new format.
16:43We talked to every coach.
16:45That includes J.B. Bickerstaff for the Stars,
16:47Darko Ryakovic for the World,
16:49and Mitch Johnson for Team Stripes.
16:52And it felt like all of them had a similar sentiment.
16:54There was a curiosity,
16:55but certainly for Darko Ryakovic,
16:57who's from Serbia himself,
16:58one of four international coaches in the NBA right now,
17:01there was a sense of pride he feels like his team's going to come and play with.
17:04Think about it.
17:05For so many years,
17:07the international, the European players,
17:09they always felt somewhat slighted, right,
17:11that they didn't belong in the NBA.
17:13And the gap, they have bridged the gap, I felt.
17:16And just look over the last seven MVPs,
17:18they've all been international-born players.
17:21So I think they want to come out here and show the world
17:24that the game has changed a little bit, Jamal.
17:26The game has changed.
17:27It's grown, and it's grown all over the world.
17:29It used to be a game just in America.
17:31To watch the growth of this game and see great players all over,
17:33it's been great.
17:34Well, look, we're not going to see Steph Curry on the court,
17:36but he is one of the biggest reasons for growth worldwide.
17:39This was him pregame with our guys on our pregame set.
17:42Just casually pick up a basketball and put it through the net.
17:46Come on.
17:48Casual.
17:49Casual.
17:49He just does this in his sleep,
17:51and then you see the celebration after Melo giving him dabs.
17:54Ahmed said, yeah, let me get in on this.
17:56Oh, no, no.
17:58Ahmed.
17:58Why are you going to put Ahmed on the last like that?
18:01Listen, it's on video.
18:03He can't hide, unfortunately, on the video.
18:05Either way, we've got big time action,
18:08and we're looking forward to this one with USA Stars and Team World
18:11to get us rolling our officials for all four mini-games here.
18:15Sean Wright, Carl Lane, Brett Barneke,
18:17who have earned their right to officiate this All-Star game.
18:19You see Jamal Murray, who is a first-time All-Star,
18:22and we'll see what type of impact he can make right away.
18:25But look at the lineup that USA Stars,
18:27which has the lowest average age of all the three teams.
18:30They've got Maxi, Edwards, Cunningham, Booker, and Durin to start.
18:34Feels like a glimpse into the future of the NBA.
18:35Well, this is the speed lineup between these three teams,
18:39and in terms of the size, that is going to be the world here,
18:45starting with the center position between Wimbenyama and Jokic.
18:50Imagine having to go up against Koli, Jokic, and...
18:52Andy Edwards is going to jump center here versus Wimbenyama.
18:55That's awesome.
18:56Is Wimbeny even going to jump?
18:57Or is he just going to say, you know what, I'll just tip it out?
18:59But you know that Ant's talking like he's going to win.
19:01Oh, for sure.
19:01He's telling him to throw the ball high enough.
19:03Are you kidding me right now, Ant?
19:05Let's see if Sean Wright obliges him.
19:06We are just about set.
19:0875th NBA All-Star Game is underway, and Team World has it first.
19:13So 12-minute game.
19:14That's a great way to start.
19:15Victor Wimbenyama.
19:16And just watching him go through his pregame warm-ups,
19:19it looked like it was a Spurs game.
19:20He is not playing around.
19:21We saw this last year.
19:22In his first All-Star appearance,
19:24Victor was one of the few guys who had felt like he had maximum effort from start to finish.
19:28Kate Cunningham having an MVP caliber season, but that's off the mark.
19:33Luka and Nikola Jokic, such great friends.
19:35They always reconvene right here during the February break in All-Star Weekend.
19:39Wimbeny is two for Tim.
19:42And Wimbeny wanted that pass even a little sooner.
19:44He couldn't shoot it quick enough.
19:45Luka spotted him.
19:46Good look.
19:47How about the early defense here from Team World?
19:50Jamal Murray trying to check Tyrese Maxey who locked it up,
19:53and Jalen Duren has his first All-Star points.
19:58We'll see a number of first-time All-Stars in this game.
20:01That includes Duren, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Johnson,
20:04all on USA Stars alone.
20:06Of course, Jamal Murray is mentioned making his first appearance,
20:08and the two Denver Nuggets nearly convert for a basket throughly.
20:12That was a different other play right there.
20:14A back screen set by the point guard to Murray and then slip.
20:18Maxey no.
20:19Edwards all alone for three.
20:22He's just working on that spot right before the game.
20:25Comfortable.
20:26Anthony Edwards having another phenomenal year.
20:2929.3 points per game.
20:31Wimbenyama is going to get fouled.
20:33Our first foul call comes less than two minutes in.
20:36Well, something we're seeing being featured here is Victor Wimbenyama.
20:41Here's the jump ball and the play,
20:43and Anthony Edwards answers with a long three-pointer,
20:47but three possessions for Team World,
20:50and they're all playing through Victor.
20:54Generally a good stretch.
20:55Yes, it is.
20:56It was amazing to watch KD stand next to LeBron.
20:59He had LeBron by a couple inches,
21:00and then look over and pan over from KD to Wimbeny
21:03and see the difference.
21:04KD is one, but Nikola Jokic next to him.
21:07Yeah, yeah.
21:08It's tiny.
21:09It's tiny, right?
21:09And it shows how the game has evolved at that pace.
21:13But I did see him look up during that celebrity game on Friday.
21:18Wimbeny was over there for that,
21:19and Taco Fall was over there,
21:21and he kind of looked up.
21:22One of the few people, right?
21:24Only the few.
21:25By the way, guys, last year, All-Star, five free throws total.
21:28We already have two 90 to 90 seconds.
21:30I like it, Noah.
21:32All the coaches felt like there was definitely a sense of enthusiasm
21:36to play a little bit hard in these games.
21:38You see Victor Wimbenyama is closing out with legit speed,
21:41but Bucker's unfazed by Obje.
21:44He could have used that three.
21:46He could have used that three.
21:47Too soon.
21:49Too soon.
21:50Too soon.
21:50He couldn't use it.
21:51Too soon and a wrong spot.
21:53Donchich off the mark.
21:55Derren will push the pace with Cunningham as running mate.
21:58They're playing for J.B. Bickerstaff.
21:59They're head coached to Detroit.
22:00Wimbenyama.
22:02Volleyball spike.
22:03Spiked that to the wall, didn't he?
22:05Sure did.
22:06Setting the tone early here.
22:09Being aggressive at both ends of the floor.
22:11Here's the block by arguably the best defensive player in our game.
22:15Now, he probably won't qualify.
22:17Rez, no arguable about it.
22:18He is the best defensive player, whether he plays enough games or not.
22:22Have you guys ever seen anybody that,
22:24when a guy has the ball on the three-point line or even at the elbow,
22:27and they see him on the opposite side.
22:30Give the ball up or don't go for an open layup.
22:33That's kind of a missus of the dunk.
22:35We heard Wimbeny's footsteps right there.
22:37He's trying to get it up quick.
22:39Wimbeny is all seven for Team World early.
22:41Obja, open lock.
22:45And Maxi taps it to himself.
22:47How about the season for Tyrese Maxi needs an all-star starter for the first time.
22:50Will he leading a Philadelphia 76er team that feels like it's hitting its stride
22:54as we head to the second half of the season.
22:56Had to carry him.
22:57All those injuries early to Embiid and Paul George.
23:01Edwards, another three.
23:04That's that trust in that chemistry, Noah, that they've got in the Olympics.
23:07Just going back and forth, Booker and Edwards.
23:09Always compare, but played the right way right there.
23:13And another foul call.
23:14This time it's going to be Cunningham as he was trying to stay with Doncic.
23:18You mentioned the Olympics.
23:19Those two guys, Devin Booker and Anthony Edwards,
23:22were as important to anybody on that USA team, especially Devin Booker.
23:25But I didn't get enough credit for what he did defensively.
23:28Yes.
23:28Really accepting that responsibility of the opposing best player.
23:31I played with him in Phoenix, and even though we weren't good at the time,
23:33I could tell winning mattered to him.
23:35Even him being the best player.
23:37Denny Obja from the outside.
23:40He still came to compete every single day.
23:43Denny Obja, 25.2 points, 7.2 rebounds,
23:46and 6.6 assists per game this season for the Portland Trail Blazers.
23:50Taking another massive leap in his development.
23:53Wemby altered that one.
23:54And Duren got it back with 8 on the clock.
23:56Now it's Maxey's step away.
23:59And Wemby Nama has the board.
24:01Leakout, Obja, and Doncic.
24:04Yes!
24:05And the fundamental leg.
24:06As Lucas says, yes.
24:08He was screaming for that layup.
24:10He's trying to get on the board.
24:12And there's no.
24:13Wemby another board.
24:15And off to the racer here.
24:17Look at him go.
24:18Cunningham tries to cut him off.
24:20Wemby Nama will not be denied.
24:21He missed it.
24:23He wanted the foul.
24:24He was fouled.
24:25Booker set the feet.
24:26And he missed everything.
24:28Oh, the save by Maxey.
24:29Inside beautiful basketball to Edwards.
24:32Good save by Maxey.
24:34Created a second opportunity for the stars here.
24:40Jamal Murray misfires.
24:42This is an earlier game than these guys are generally accustomed to.
24:45See if they continue to get their rhythm.
24:48Maxey shows off the speed.
24:50And that's going to count.
24:52And you can see how Vic is playing right now.
24:55Even that one.
24:55He wanted the post up.
24:56He said, throw the ball.
24:58Maxey saves it.
25:01Good pass right there.
25:03Good left hand layup from the end.
25:07Dodson step back.
25:08So Luka Doncic, we don't expect to play a ton of minutes in this one play.
25:15The first couple has been nursing that hamstring injury.
25:18So they want to make sure that he is okay going into the second half of the season
25:21as Edwards is off the mark.
25:25Get it up ahead.
25:27Murray on the attack.
25:29Locked by Cunningham.
25:30A little bit of defense being played here in game one.
25:36Like this intensity early.
25:38Jokic got the deflection out of bounds.
25:39Look at the rock.
25:41Mr. President Barack Obama.
25:44He's even cool when the ball is coming at him.
25:46No problem.
25:46Look at him.
25:47Look at him.
25:47Look at him.
25:47Just crossed the leg.
25:48I'm about to.
25:50No, actually, I think exactly what he said was,
25:52That's what I do.
25:53I got it.
25:54That's what I do.
25:55Would have been better,
25:56he would have stood up and went right to the three.
25:58He just knocked it through.
26:00Or he could do a mellow and pump fake it, right?
26:02I thought you were going to shoot it.
26:03The good thing is,
26:04we actually have someone who can ask
26:05because Reggie will be interviewing
26:07the 44th President of the United States.
26:10That's a cool section over there.
26:11You got Michelle, Barack, the big O,
26:14and Dr. J if you just go down the line.
26:15It doesn't get any better.
26:16It doesn't go any cooler in that section.
26:19The young people would like to call that aura.
26:22That's an aura section right there.
26:23Yeah, you can't pay for that.
26:24Aura overload, as some would say.
26:27Wembenyama already with 7.3 rebounds in two blocks,
26:30five minutes into this second All-Star appearance.
26:33Jokic on the peril, couldn't finish.
26:35Scotty Barnes has checked into the game
26:37for Team USA Stars.
26:40And that's what he's turned over.
26:41Jalen Johnson's first All-Star appearance is underway,
26:44and it leads us to our first timeout on the floor.
26:47President Obama is going to dab him up
26:51after some smooth-looking action.
26:54We'll talk to him later.
27:02But our third team, Team Stripes,
27:04is getting ready behind the scenes,
27:05so let's check in with Ashley.
27:08All right, Jalen, you've been an All-Star before,
27:10but this time you are a starter.
27:12Does it feel a little bit different this go-around?
27:14No, it doesn't feel any different.
27:16But I'm happy to be here.
27:17I'm very grateful.
27:18New format, obviously, with the Stripes, Stars, and World team.
27:21Do you feel like this could bring a different sense of competition
27:24because of this new format?
27:26I know you haven't played in it yet, but just sensing overall.
27:29It could.
27:29I think we'll just wait and see.
27:30I've been watching some of the game before us
27:32to kind of get a feel for it.
27:34But I think overall it's going to be good.
27:36Do you like that you're able to scout this first team
27:39from the back here?
27:40Yeah, it's always good to watch
27:41and get to see what the vibe is,
27:44and then you go out and go from there.
27:46But is there a scouting report
27:47when it's the best of the best players on the floor?
27:49Absolutely.
27:50Absolutely, yeah.
27:51I watch a lot of film and tendencies on all these guys,
27:53so I'm doing some, you know,
27:55up close and personal data research right now.
27:58So I'm having fun.
27:59Love it.
28:00Thanks so much, Jalen.
28:02Great stuff, Ashley.
28:03Some changes on both sides here
28:05as we look forward to Jalen Brown
28:07and Team Stripes in our next game
28:09with Shangoon on the floor for Team World.
28:12He'll lob it inside,
28:13and Towns will get fouled by Barnes.
28:16So already the third and fourth free throws
28:18of this All-Star Sunday.
28:23Let's reset the floor right now.
28:25Obdia stays out there for Team World,
28:27but Norman Powell, Alperin Shangoon,
28:29Carl Towns, and Pascal Siakam,
28:31Jalen Johnson and Scottie Barnes off the bench
28:34out there with Maxi Edwards and Duren
28:36for stars as we check in.
28:38Mike Dopp with Giannis Antetokounmpo.
28:43I got to go talk to the NFTs.
28:45Know what's going on here.
28:46He said we country-saving.
28:48Hey, you guys are U.S. citizens.
28:50Is that what it is?
28:51You're U.S. citizens,
28:53and you don't care about the rest of the world.
28:54That's what it is.
28:55Come on now.
28:57All right, Giannis.
28:58All right, he just wants to make sure
29:00it's a fair fight.
29:01He's just planting seeds right now.
29:03I like it, Giannis.
29:04That's a bet move right there
29:05with Sean Wright, Carl Lane, and Brett Barneke.
29:08Three excellent officials that we've got
29:09on this All-Star Sunday.
29:11Jalen Johnson, first-time All-Star
29:13from the Hawks.
29:14Misfired on the three.
29:15Right from the start,
29:16you can see their running sets,
29:17and there's a certain crispness
29:18to how they're playing.
29:19Even their movements,
29:21moving the ball from side to side.
29:23And that's realism.
29:24It's Cat, the Big Cat,
29:25Carl Anthony Towns,
29:26knocked down the D3.
29:27So you're in on Big Cat.
29:28Are you a Big Bodega type of guy?
29:30I didn't get Big Bodega in Minnesota.
29:32He made that transformation afterwards.
29:34Okay.
29:35Big Purr?
29:36Big Purr.
29:36Big Purr.
29:37Big Purr.
29:37Big Purr.
29:38I like the Big Cat.
29:39To me, that's my favorite.
29:42Try to get to this young.
29:43Make it in there.
29:44Shen Goon on the money.
29:46Think about some of the passing
29:47that's on this team world
29:49from the Bigs.
29:50Shen Goon, Jokic.
29:51Two of the best passing
29:55big men in our game.
29:56Good offense leads to the lay.
29:59The difference also
30:01is they're going side to side,
30:02moving the ball,
30:03and it's not a bad shot after.
30:04It's like they're actually
30:05finishing real plays.
30:06Good pass.
30:06Siakam guides it home.
30:09And Optia has proven
30:10his passing chops
30:11through this season
30:12with the Portland Trail Blazers.
30:14Maxi Noe, leak out.
30:16Two available.
30:17It's Siakam and Optia
30:19and Denny looked at it
30:20at the rim.
30:21What's going to be
30:22interesting next year
30:23is with Denny
30:24and when Dane comes back
30:26because Dane's
30:27a pretty ball-dominant
30:29type player.
30:30It'll be interesting
30:31how that dynamic
30:32works out between
30:33those two players.
30:33Based on last night,
30:34I think everybody
30:35in Portland got real excited.
30:36Real excited.
30:38The way he can catch
30:38and shoot the rock.
30:40Playing with a special
30:41talent like Optia.
30:42Oh, that's deep
30:43from Carl Anthony Towns.
30:45And Towns is going to
30:46get a lot of run
30:47for Team World
30:48because Jokic
30:48might be done
30:50for the rest of the evening.
30:51He was going to be
30:52taking it easy
30:53as he continues
30:54to ease himself back.
30:5514-2 run
30:56for the world.
31:05Xfinity,
31:06brand new feature
31:06debuting tonight
31:07that puts you
31:08right at center court.
31:10You can browse
31:10multiple camera angles
31:11on your own terms
31:12without losing focus
31:13on the game.
31:14Find Courtside Live
31:15on the NBA Hub
31:16in the Peacock app.
31:17This is all-star basketball
31:18like you've never
31:19seen it before.
31:20Well, it's all-star basketball
31:21like Chet Holmgren's
31:22never seen it before.
31:23His first appearance
31:24in the all-star game.
31:26These guys are getting loose.
31:27De'Aaron Conway
31:28didn't make appearance
31:29number two.
31:30Donovan Mitchell,
31:31his seventh all-star
31:32in a row.
31:33And, of course,
31:34how about 22 all-star
31:36appearances
31:37for LeBron James?
31:38Unbelievable.
31:4122 all-star.
31:42These guys are going
31:42through like
31:43lather workouts.
31:44You know what I'm saying?
31:45Yeah.
31:46I bet you if they show KD,
31:47he would be prepared
31:48like it was the finals.
31:49Every work that he does,
31:50right?
31:51The 360 spin
31:52into the jump shot
31:52off the left.
31:54I like where you're thinking.
31:56Booker, Barnes, Holmgren,
31:58Cunningham,
31:59and Johnson the 5
32:00for USA stars.
32:01What an ATO
32:04for a Booker J.
32:06Again, a little
32:07misdirection
32:08downstream for Booker.
32:10Let's see if the stars
32:11now to kind of
32:12defensively settle in
32:14and stop this world team.
32:16There's a steal.
32:17Cunningham,
32:18chased by Murray
32:19and a left fly.
32:20And when's the last time
32:21you've seen a steal
32:22like that with a denial?
32:24The right thing
32:24to all-star game, right?
32:25Yeah.
32:26This is fundamental.
32:27Yes.
32:28By the way,
32:29it's worth noting, guys,
32:30that the stars
32:31were the designated
32:32home team in this game.
32:33As Hal misses.
32:34Oh, Murray went up
32:35and couldn't jam it.
32:37So they got that
32:37mandatory timeout
32:38and they just took one
32:39there out.
32:40And he is out and running.
32:41Jalen Johnson
32:42showing off the bunnies.
32:44Timeout called
32:45by Team World.
32:46Six straight points
32:47out of the timeout.
32:48And let's see Wemby
32:49come back in next.
32:50Little 6-0 run here
32:52by the stars.
32:54Jalen Johnson
32:54with the flyby.
33:01Into a dome.
33:04And, Jamal,
33:04you mentioned
33:05some great defense
33:05being played.
33:06Right here,
33:07watch the denial
33:08by Cunningham.
33:09That's not what you're
33:10used to seeing
33:11in an all-star type
33:12of setting.
33:12But they're trying
33:13to set the tone.
33:14The best way
33:14to set the tone
33:15is to play defense.
33:16Guard,
33:17yes, I didn't play
33:17a lot of defense,
33:18but I know what it took
33:19to know that you were
33:20competing at the highest level.
33:21That look is from
33:22the AT&T Connected Camp.
33:24Three-point game,
33:25under four to play
33:26in this opening game.
33:28Winner will stay
33:28to take on
33:29King Stripes
33:30in our second
33:31of four.
33:33And Wembyn Yama
33:33right back in there.
33:34He's up to nine.
33:36Just how do you play
33:37that when you've got
33:38Wembyn Yama
33:39on the floor
33:40on those high-screen
33:41rolls because there's
33:42ability not only
33:43to shoot
33:43but finish up the rim.
33:45I truly think
33:46the only thing you do
33:46is pray
33:47that he misses.
33:50Booker,
33:51good look.
33:52And it pinballs
33:53around into the hands
33:54of Siakam.
33:55Another great season
33:56for Siakam, Indiana.
33:58Record-wise,
33:58a little bit lower
33:59than maybe they were
34:00hoping something
34:00into the year
34:01with all the injuries,
34:02but Siakam's been
34:02a steady hand
34:03after helping guide
34:05them to the final
34:06last year.
34:07Let's take away.
34:08Barnes got the hand
34:09in the cookie jar.
34:09It's a five-on-four
34:10and just goes
34:12right to the rack.
34:15Talk about a guy
34:16with a unique set
34:17of skills.
34:18Can score,
34:20pass, rebound,
34:22lead your team
34:23on the break.
34:23There he goes again.
34:26Get it up ahead.
34:27It's Cunningham
34:28tracking it down.
34:30Booker,
34:31Hagren,
34:32hold on to fly.
34:34Rebound,
34:35Barnes,
34:35Cunningham,
34:37got it.
34:38Booker and Barnes
34:39said,
34:39not a chance
34:40I'm taking that shot
34:41with Wimby down there.
34:42Booker looked,
34:43said let me throw it
34:43to the corner.
34:44Barnes said,
34:44I got a rebound.
34:45Nope,
34:45going back out.
34:46Jamal Murray,
34:490 for 4
34:50in his first
34:50All-Star appearance
34:51so far.
34:52That's a tough one.
34:56Some talking
34:57going on out here.
34:58Give it to him,
34:59give it to him,
34:59Rich.
35:00Yeah.
35:00Oh,
35:01look at him.
35:02Oh,
35:02I told you.
35:04There's that
35:04full eight-foot
35:06wingspan
35:06in full effect.
35:08the defense
35:11to offense
35:11with a big man
35:12starring at Inglewood.
35:14And fellas,
35:15Wimby understands
35:16this will be his league
35:17soon enough.
35:18He set the tone again
35:19that we're going to compete
35:20in every All-Star game.
35:23Holmgren,
35:23turn around.
35:25Wimby clear.
35:29We're feeling it now.
35:31About 90 seconds
35:32to play in this opening game.
35:34And let the ball fly
35:35with Victor here.
35:36Yes.
35:38Siakam thought about it.
35:39Now he'll take.
35:41No.
35:42Outlet goes to Cunningham.
35:44Wimby Yama's there.
35:45Cunningham doesn't care.
35:48Wendby already
35:48with nine points,
35:50six rebounds,
35:51and three blocks
35:52including that last one
35:53he completely took away.
35:56Feels like one more highlight
35:57and Carl Anthony Towns
35:58can officially be
35:59big capped
36:00for us tonight.
36:01The block.
36:02It's Johnson.
36:04Telling you,
36:04Johnson does everything
36:06with Atlanta Hawks
36:07is joining here
36:08in his first All-Star game.
36:09Holmgren.
36:10Holmgren.
36:11Flying in.
36:12The run to the rim.
36:16Throw the defense here
36:17by Kane.
36:18Come on, Jamal.
36:19Murray.
36:20Yes.
36:20Oh, yeah.
36:22Engulfed by
36:23Scotty Barnes.
36:24Cunningham.
36:27Booker.
36:27Barnes.
36:29Looking for Holmgren.
36:30He wasn't paying attention.
36:31I think one more highlight
36:32by Wimby is coming up.
36:34It's that Murray
36:35with a cross.
36:36And it's ricocheted
36:36out of bounds.
36:41Look at Victor Wimby
36:43in the honor here
36:44with a huge pin.
36:45Are you kidding me?
36:46Sometimes it's not fair.
36:49And here's the big cat.
36:50May have gotten fouled,
36:51but what a finish
36:52by Towns.
36:54The opening day
36:58is on NBC and Peacock.
37:00To lead off,
37:01the Pirates visit the Mets.
37:02Then in prime time,
37:03it's the Diamondbacks
37:04against the World Series
37:05champion Dodgers.
37:06Thursday, March 26th
37:08only on NBC and Peacock.
37:0936.2 seconds
37:11remain in this opening game
37:12between the Stars
37:13and Team World.
37:15It is just a one-point game.
37:17Now remember,
37:18winner stays,
37:19but point differential
37:20does matter
37:20to eventually get
37:21in the championship.
37:22This has been a great
37:25opening game here.
37:27Right back to Murray.
37:30Doubled underneath.
37:31Around it goes.
37:33Wimby.
37:33Spin.
37:34Long stride.
37:35And he's fouled.
37:37This is amazing.
37:38Think about this.
37:39It went from
37:40Vince Carter
37:41to Tracy McGurdy
37:42to LeBron,
37:44T-Mac,
37:45all those guys
37:45to eventually get to Wimby.
37:47To see the talent,
37:49to see how he does this
37:50on the wing,
37:50each guy got bigger
37:51and bigger and more skill.
37:53Now he's a combination
37:53of great players
37:54at 7-4
37:56or whatever he is
37:57with the guard skill set.
37:59He just split.
38:00Yes.
38:00Anthony Edwards
38:01and Scottie Barnes.
38:02Yes.
38:02Two pretty premier
38:04wing defenders
38:05and here's the 7-3 guy.
38:07But he made it look simple.
38:09Once you look at this one
38:10from earlier.
38:11And watch right there.
38:12He's pushing Pascal.
38:13Get back on defense.
38:15He's leading
38:15in every single way right now.
38:17It's not just the points
38:18of the blocks
38:18and things we see.
38:19It's the little things
38:20we don't see.
38:21Even if he knocks this down,
38:23it is still
38:24a one possession game here.
38:3011.6 boards,
38:32three blocks.
38:33Victor Wimbanyama.
38:34Cunningham with a four-second
38:36difference shot clock
38:37and game clock.
38:38And the world defensively
38:39feeling good right now.
38:42Step away.
38:42Holmgren.
38:43Booker.
38:44Drive.
38:45Kick.
38:45Edwards.
38:46Good look.
38:47Booker!
38:48Oh!
38:49Dribble penetration.
38:51Two feet in the paint
38:52there by Booker.
38:53Finding Edwards
38:54to tie this bad boy up.
38:56Shot clock off.
38:57Five seconds left.
38:58Wimbanyama.
38:58Wimbanyama.
39:00Bounce it.
39:01Someone has to get it off.
39:02It's Powell,
39:03the former stripper.
39:04No!
39:05A tie in our first game.
39:08Woo!
39:08And how about the defense
39:10on the last two possessions?
39:12Barnes was all over
39:14Victor Wimbanyama up top.
39:17And there was no way
39:18he was going to be able
39:19to get around Barnes.
39:20So he had to get
39:21the basketball up, Jamal.
39:23And there was a matchup
39:25that Wimbanyama wanted.
39:26He tried to get Chet
39:27in pick and roll.
39:28And they jammed the screen,
39:29which means they basically
39:30double teamed the screen
39:31to make him get rid of the ball.
39:33Great defensive adjustment.
39:35All right, fans.
39:36It's overtime.
39:37The first to five points.
39:39Wimbanyama.
39:40Look at the backside here.
39:41Barnes sets the screen.
39:43There's no way that Cat
39:44can recover to Anthony Edwards.
39:46See, these are little things
39:48that we have not seen.
39:50This is a regular season play.
39:52Yes.
39:52This is not an all-star play.
39:55Usually it's Ole defense.
39:58And then here's the closeout
39:59by Edwards.
40:00The rush shot by Powell.
40:02Ladies and gentlemen,
40:04we are going to overtime.
40:06Yes.
40:06So it's not your typical overtime.
40:08Yes.
40:08Let's go through
40:09what we're going to see.
40:10It is not what you would
40:11normally get in terms
40:12of the five extra minutes
40:13and you're going to play
40:14up and down the court.
40:15But it's not sudden death
40:16either.
40:17It's first two-five.
40:19So it's not five minutes
40:20on the clock,
40:20but the first two-five.
40:22Two-five.
40:23You can win on free throws.
40:25It could be a two-in-a-day.
40:26How by any means necessary,
40:28get to five.
40:29But it guarantees
40:30you have to score
40:31two separate times, right?
40:32It guarantees
40:33you have to get two buckets
40:34one way or another
40:35to get those five points.
40:36So we're going to start
40:38with a jump ball
40:38and the world is going to send out
40:40Althea, Siakam,
40:41Kat, Murray,
40:42and Wembenyama.
40:44As for team stars,
40:46it'll be Scotty Barnes,
40:48Devin Booker,
40:49Anthony Edwards,
40:50Cade Cunningham,
40:50and Jalen Duren.
40:52How about Anthony Edwards?
40:54Again.
