00:00The authorities have dealt a major blow to the illegal e-cigarette trade,
00:04seizing nearly 9 million ringgit worth of vape products in a sweeping nationwide operation.
00:10Launched on February 10th, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department Deputy Director,
00:16Commissioner Datuk Fisal Saleh, said Ops e-cig Mega brought together more than 2,100 officers and personnel
00:24across multiple government agencies, including the police, health ministry, domestic trade,
00:31and cost of living ministry, local authorities, and the Inland Revenue Board.
00:36Over 150 premises were targeted nationwide, with 141 inspected as part of the integrated crackdown.
00:44The hall made up of over 4.6 million ringgit in vape fluids and 4.1 million ringgit in vape
00:51devices
00:51and related equipment. Authorities also issued more than 330,000 ringgit in compound notices.
01:00Meanwhile, 181 people were screened during the operation.
01:04Four arrests were made, including one individual for obstructing a public servant in Johor,
01:10and two others on immigration offences. Authorities confirmed that while vape liquids
01:16laced with drugs have been found in previous operations, no narcotics were detected this time,
01:21But beyond the seizures, Fisal says, say the bigger concern is access among young people.
01:28Under health ministry regulations, the sale of vape products to anyone under 18 is strictly prohibited,
01:35a rule authorities say is not being followed widely enough.
02:00Fisal says integrated operations like this one will continue, as the authorities ramp up efforts
02:06to curb the growing vape trade and keep e-cigarettes out of the hands of teenagers.
