00:03Barbecues Galore, Australia's biggest barbecue retailer, has entered voluntary administration,
00:08putting about 500 jobs at risk and slashing the value of customer gift cards.
00:13Administrators were appointed on the 12th February, citing cash flow pressures as the
00:18retailer's biggest challenge.
00:20The retailer operates 68 company-owned stores and 27 franchise locations across Australia,
00:26but many franchise outlets will remain largely unaffected.
00:30Local branches, like the Armidale store in regional New South Wales, say it's business
00:35as usual.
00:36Because we're a franchisee, we can get stock from a multitude of different companies.
00:41If they go bust in 6 or 12 months' time, we can keep changing through and bring in other
00:45brands.
00:47Customers will need to spend $2 in cash for every $1 redeemed on gift cards.
00:51This, of course, is one way for the company to ease some of the financial pressure.
00:57So they're basically saying, we will honour the gift card, but you've got to spend a little
01:02bit more to actually get it.
01:03The collapse follows a wave of failures across retail and hospitality, with companies like
01:09Jeans West, Spring Gully Foods and Exotic Athletica collapsing under cost pressures.
