Angel in Silver
Pale toes in open daylight
Pink nail polish catching sun
Silver on her ankle
Soft bells one by one
High arch like a crescent
Light against the air
Grace in every barefoot step
Wind within her hair
Dust already on her skin
Brown along the lines
Light dust on her smooth pale skin
Hardened soles with thick grime
Cracked like summer riverbeds
Calloused thick and wide
Pretty feet the world can see
Hard ground pressed inside
She is free and she knows it
Laughing in the street
Sunlight on her shoulders
Dust beneath her feet
No rules no permission
No need to explain
She dances where she wants to
In pleasure and in rain
Let them look and wonder
Let them disagree
She is exactly who she is
And that is all she needs
Through heavy snow and frozen ground
Sharp gravel hid below
Dry thorns and splinters on the trail
Where bitter cold winds blow
Her bare feet raw with frost and red
Ice burns and will not slow
Cold biting through her hardened skin
Into her weathered soles
Rusted nails in broken wood
Stick deep and jut outside
Shards of glass lodge in her callus
Sharp edges pushed inside
Abandoned pits and ditches foul
Where rot and maggots run
Sewer thick and black with sludge
Still she walks beneath no sun
Filth and frost and rust
Grinding skin to bone
Her battered feet keep moving
Angel in silver alone
She is free and she knows it
Whether seen or not
Sky above or underground
It matters not a thought
No rules no permission
No need to explain
She walks where she decides to
Through ruin, frost, and rain
Let them watch or turn away
Let them disagree
She is exactly who she is
And that is all she needs
Let the wild earth hold her
Angel in silver free
She is exactly who she is
And that is all she needs
