00:06and fueled by StarTron.
00:11There you go.
00:13Oh, you gonna get him?
00:15I'm gonna get him.
00:17I got this one coming.
00:18Yeah, better snap.
00:20Snap!
00:23Wonder if the camber boat wants some fish to take home.
00:28You already got one in the well from the net this morning.
00:36Come on, Mango.
00:41They don't give up, do they?
00:42No, they don't.
00:44Thank God they don't get that big, you know?
00:46If that thing got over, like, 10, 15 pounds,
00:49I don't know if you'd ever catch them.
00:51They do. They're called camberas.
00:54They got that same wheel.
00:56We're gonna keep in with three or four more,
00:59and we got dinner.
01:00Yeah.
01:01Well, you got plenty of dinner.
01:03Oh, geez.
01:04He almost jumped out.
01:05He almost got it.
01:09Go, baby! That's what I'm talking about!
01:17Only a mama could love that mouth.
01:26We're bringing home the snapper!
01:32Hey, look at that!
01:37Welcome to Sportsman's Adventures.
01:40This week, Captain Rick Murphy joins forces with Captain Tony Fontana in the beautiful waters of Naples, Florida.
01:47These two have fished together before, creating incredible memories on past adventures, and they're ready to do it again.
01:55Southwest Florida is as inviting as ever, though the area is still bouncing back from last year's storms.
02:01Despite the challenges, the resilience of this community and its world-class fishery shine brighter than ever.
02:09Get ready for another unforgettable day on the water.
02:14Whoa!
02:14There you go.
02:15Boy, he hit.
02:17Thumped it.
02:18Thumped it?
02:19Would you give me a gag?
02:20Yeah, a nice gag.
02:21Hey!
02:22Now, there we go!
02:26Gagalicious!
02:27Oh, yeah.
02:28That makes Ricky happy!
02:33That's a nice fish.
02:34Yeah, man.
02:36It's definitely a nice fish.
02:36Tony, what's the season on gags now in the Gulf of Mexico?
02:38I think it's September 1st to the 14th this year.
02:43Yeah.
02:43They've changed it.
02:44Last year was just a brief season, and this year I think we're going to have about the same.
02:51Same brief season.
02:52That's a nice fish.
02:53Yeah, man.
02:54What's that, 22 inches?
02:5524, 24.
02:57Yeah.
02:57So he's got to grow.
02:59He's got to grow.
02:59They grow fast, though.
03:01He's aggressive.
03:02Yes.
03:02He does a lot of eating like me.
03:06All right.
03:08What's your speculation on the gag?
03:11Why do they call him gag?
03:12I don't know.
03:13To me, that's a fish that names itself.
03:15Why?
03:16Because if you were, are you going to see that on the menu?
03:18I'll have the gag grouper, please.
03:20Nobody wants that on their food.
03:22Oh, so he believes in the plastic catch and release.
03:26If you name me gag, nobody will want me.
03:31So I have a theory that lasts this past week on the Florida Insider Fisher Report.
03:38Tommy Derringer from the Northeast region, he showed a giant picture.
03:45He talked about how these big mangrove snappers were coming up with the red snappers.
03:50Yeah.
03:51And he talked, he said it was amazing that they were going head to head, bucking heads with each other.
03:57And I said, yeah.
03:59I said, but you know why you were able to catch that mangrove snapper?
04:04And he said, no, I don't know why.
04:05And I go, well, it's because they saw those red snappers come up and eat chunk bait and then get
04:11put back in the water.
04:12Yeah, yeah.
04:14Because you couldn't take any red snappers.
04:16Yeah.
04:16They've been watching all that going on.
04:18And now all of a sudden they come up and eat a chunk bait.
04:20Yeah.
04:21Right in the cooler.
04:22Sorry about your luck, buddy.
04:25That's the bad teaching there.
04:28It's a bad tutoring.
04:29It's amazing how much smarter those mangrove snapper are than those red snappers.
04:35Unbelievable.
04:35A mangrove, a dock mangrove snapper in a residential canal.
04:40The smartest fish there ever was.
04:45Sportsman's Adventures is brought to you by Yamaha.
04:50Reliability starts here.
04:53Bahio.
04:54Blue light blocking.
04:55Radically clear polarized fishing sunglasses.
04:59Penn.
05:00Let the battle begin.
05:02And StarTron.
05:04Start.
05:05Run.
05:06Store.
05:07With StarTron.
05:09I'm going to show you the quickest way I know to tie the FG knot.
05:12I like the FG knot because it's really slender.
05:15It goes through the guides and you can tie a nice long leader.
05:18Retie lures, retie hooks.
05:19When you're catching these snook, they fray the line.
05:21You have to retie.
05:22So instead of having to constantly retie your whole leader, just cut and retie with that,
05:27the big long leader on there.
05:29So I take the main line, which is a braided line.
05:32Right.
05:32And I put that in my mouth.
05:33Just gently hold it in your teeth.
05:36And then with the rod and a rod holder, or you can lean the rod.
05:41It's just important to have this tension.
05:42However you can get tension here.
05:45Then I take the leader line and I cross right over the braid.
05:49Cross over the top.
05:50Cross right over the top.
05:51And then you're simply going around the back sides of the braid.
05:57But what I didn't understand when you tried to show me this before is that you have to let the
06:03line go so the knot forms below your fingers.
06:07Correct.
06:08I was holding it, pinching it like you would pinch off a uni knot.
06:12Correct.
06:12You know what I mean?
06:13Yeah, you want it to stack on top of itself.
06:15Got it.
06:16So, and you just keep just enough pressure to where everything remains fairly tight because if you do it too
06:21loose, this knot will slip.
06:23And the whole key is having it where it's tight.
06:26Correct.
06:27Before you cinch it down.
06:28Correct.
06:29This is like a Chinese finger cuff.
06:30So the tighter you pull on it, the tighter this braided line that we're weaving around cinches down on the
06:37mono.
06:38Got it.
06:39So you don't need a huge knot.
06:41I just go by looks.
06:43Right.
06:43I feel like I'm going to do a quick half hitch on top.
06:46Around both.
06:47Around both.
06:48The mono and the braided main line going to the rod.
06:52That keeps it from unraveling.
06:53Got it.
06:53And then you just lightly cinch down that overhand knot.
06:57Now do you wet this like you wet everything else?
07:00You can wet it a little bit.
07:01It doesn't really have to be wet.
07:03I find you get a little tighter grab if it is damp.
07:07Got it.
07:07You don't have the friction like you do when you tie a mono knot like on itself.
07:13Right.
07:13And then you pull this baby as tight as you can pull.
07:15You can use the handle of your D hooker.
07:18You can use dowels or you can use your man hands if you got them.
07:23Man hands.
07:24And then you whip finish or one other half hitch?
07:27Uh huh.
07:29Bring that down nice and tight.
07:31And then I just whip finish.
07:33So whip finish.
07:35You just do basically half hitches back toward where the leader is.
07:41Right.
07:41I do three.
07:43Okay.
07:43This is like a bumper.
07:44So this is just protecting the main knot.
07:47As it's going through the guide.
07:49Correct.
07:49It's a build up.
07:50It's a build up.
07:51So it's just that doesn't you can kind of put some people when they tie that they just
07:56put a million half hitches on there.
07:58Yes.
07:58But I like that.
07:59That's a nice smooth transition through the guides.
08:03You cut about a quarter inch off the braid and the monofilament you want to cut as close
08:09as you can.
08:10Because it'll get hung up in the guide.
08:12You'll feel it chunking through the guides.
08:14Yes.
08:15The whole point of this is to have basically the mono sleeved within that soft braided line.
08:20So when it goes through those guides, when you're reeling it in, you don't even feel
08:24it.
08:25So we had 20 Berkeley Prospect Chrome tied off to the Berkeley Floral Carbon Leader and
08:31that's how you join it.
08:31And you don't need to double the braid, correct?
08:33You don't need to double the braid because you're not actually forming a knot.
08:37You maintain pretty close to 100% knot strength or line strength.
08:43Because you're not doing any kind of like actual knot.
08:46You know, it's not cutting into itself.
08:48It's not doing the things that normally make knots fail.
08:52Alright, so what do you want to put on this now?
08:53An eagle claw jig head or an eagle claw...
08:56Let's do a jig head.
08:59Alright.
09:10Oh, get him Rick.
09:11Get him Rick.
09:12That's a nice fish.
09:13Keep him out of there.
09:15Get a big crank on him.
09:18One more and you got him.
09:19Atta boy.
09:21Atta boy.
09:25Atta boy.
09:25Boy, they sure pull hard for 30 feet of water.
09:27They pull.
09:28Oh.
09:29Oh.
09:29Oh.
09:29You just screw up buddy.
09:31That's a big old gag.
09:31Get him in.
09:33He was like sleeping on you there.
09:37There you go.
09:37You got him.
09:38Nice and easy.
09:39Oh, Goliath.
09:42Ahaha...
09:42Gave me a bath.
09:45Get the Southwest Florida shower going.
09:52Come on baby.
09:53Come on.
09:57this is why I don't complain this fish right here is why don't I don't complain
10:01about fishing regulations because the comeback this fish has made in my
10:05lifetime anytime they say closed season so what go catch something else right
10:10or catch him and let him go right because this this is proof positive that
10:14it works exactly you know a lot of people right now are watching and they're
10:19going oh he's not supposed to take that fish out of the water and all of this
10:24stuff listen guys in state waters which is that's where we are we're in state
10:28waters you can take the fish out of the water get the hook out of them that's
10:34what the FWC wants you to do and then let him go as quickly as possible and that's
10:39what's what we just did well thank you so much and he swam off now federal waters
10:43you can't take it out of the water you're not exactly

11:15when I think about the new Yamaha F350 I think of how it's the perfect motor to
11:22round out Yamaha's lineup it's much lighter than the old model and is the
11:27lightest 350 in its class being 65 pounds lighter than the competition the 350 is
11:33perfect for anyone who is thinking about repowering with the motor only weighing
11:3818 pounds more than the 300 this gives you the option of more horsepower for
11:44almost the same weight I love the performance of my 350 on the Skeeter
11:49Bayboat it's perfect for that 24-foot boat pushing it at the top speed of 64
11:55miles an hour and with the integrated steering it is perfect and fun to
12:01navigate through the channels and the rivers of the Everglades the 350 also comes
12:06with thrust enhancing reverse exhaust which means that I have more control at
12:11low speed and very little bubble trail while I'm trolling lures and my baits so
12:18that they can be seen the 350 70 amp alternator produces more than 30 net amps
12:25per outboard at idle and if you have more than one the 350 allows these
12:31alternators to be stacked to keep all of your radios your electronics bait well
12:36pumps running while still charging your bank of batteries so whether you have a
12:42big offshore boat a bay boat or maybe thinking about building a new boat maybe
12:47the 350 Yamaha is the way to go if you want to know more information about any
12:52Yamahas go to Yamaha Outboards.com or to your local dealer
12:58get him Tony get him Tony

14:14really hurt you so you know let me ask you something while we're looking at this big
14:18beautiful fish look at how transparent his fins are I believe there's two species of
14:27common snook and what I mean by species is their genes are different inland estuary fish yeah you
14:34hook that fish and he runs towards towards all the debris all the oyster bars all the things that could
14:43possibly become a giant problem yeah versus this fish when he gets afraid he runs through the
14:51deeper water for sure so I think I'm gonna go still fish are really wow look at the
15:00shoulders on that thing you see that yeah and those coastal fish you know they stay

17:25bleeding these fish while they're alive when he puts them on the ice yeah leads them yellowtail snappers
17:34all of it's so good there we go there you go Rick on the old gulp shrimp yeah it's always
17:45fun to catch
