00:16There we go.
00:21You ask and you shall receive.
00:23You know, that's the one thing we don't do enough of, Ridge, is go fun fishing.
00:33We're always trying to find something for some tournament in the Keys or whatever, you know?
00:39Yeah, sometimes you just got to get out here and go have a good time.
00:42Yeah.
00:43If you're lucky, after lunch maybe I'll even poll you.
00:48Yeah?
00:49Don't, I don't think.
00:51I wouldn't even know what to do if you got on a platform.
01:00Nice little snook.
01:01Little snooks.
01:03Easy, bud.
01:05Think he wanted to eat that?
01:06Yeah, man.
01:08That's the new bass assassin color, huh?
01:10Yeah.
01:11It's called Flamingo...
01:14Flamingo pink.
01:15Flash.
01:16I think.
01:19Flamingo pink.
01:21Nice.
01:22Little snook.
01:24Glorified bass.
01:25That's about it.
01:26Yeah.
01:27You can use all your bass tackle.
01:29You guys, you know guys that love to throw plugs?
01:32Yeah.
01:33On bait casters.
01:35That's the fish.
01:36Yeah, it is.
01:38Nice job.
01:43Go, baby!
01:44That's what I'm talking about!
01:49Only a mama could love that mouth.
01:52Woo!
02:00Bringing home the snapper!
02:06Hey, look at that!
02:07Go, baby!
02:11This week on Sportsman's Adventures, Captains Rick and Ridge Murphy are heading back to their backyard.
02:18Well, not really.
02:20But it might as well be.
02:22The waters around Everglades National Park is one of Florida's most iconic fishing destinations.
02:28This sprawling wilderness is renowned as the ultimate spot for anglers seeking excitement.
02:34That must be why the Murphys love it so much.
02:37Join the crew as they target one of Florida's prized game fish.
02:41The elusive and powerful snook.
02:45There you go.
02:49Redfish.
02:50Yeah, little guy.
02:52Another one right here.
02:59Anybody with him?
03:01I don't know.
03:02I think so.
03:08Maybe.
03:12Oh, it's a snook.
03:14Little snook?
03:15Yeah.
03:16Can you believe that?
03:17Yeah.
03:18You know what's so cool about this today, Ridge, is that it's a month of June, and everybody's still eat up trying to tarpon fish.
03:32Tarpon fish.
03:33And you have all of Florida Bay to yourself.
03:37Yeah, it's a cool time of year just to go fishing.
03:40Yeah.
03:41It really is.
03:42You know?
03:43And for the most part, there's a lot of fish around, too.
03:45Mostly snooks.
03:46You'll get your red fish in.
03:47Yeah.
03:49But it's a good, fun time just for charter fishing itself.
03:54Yeah.
03:55Cool.
03:56That's for sure.
03:57Lots of fish to be caught.
03:59Sportsman's Adventures is brought to you by Yamaha.
04:04Reliability starts here.
04:07Bahio.
04:08Blue light blocking.
04:09Radically clear, polarized fishing sunglasses.
04:13Penn.
04:14Let the battle begin.
04:17And StarTron.
04:19Start.
04:20Run.
04:21Store.
04:22With StarTron.
04:24What you got, Ridge?
04:25I think it's a snook.
04:27Snook it?
04:28One, two, three.
04:29Whoa.
04:30Wow.
04:32That's pretty selfish.
04:33I've seen that on, like, the bass shows, you know?
04:35Yeah.
04:36Is that what happened?
04:37I guess, you know?
04:38You just wanted it all to yourself.
04:39Look at that.
04:40I told you the snook's eyes were going to be dilated today.
04:41Why is that?
04:42That big, full moon.
04:43That's what you think?
04:44Yeah.
04:45It looks like a moon.
04:46Oh.
04:47Oh.
04:48Oh.
04:49Oh.
04:50Oh.
04:51Oh.
04:52Oh.
04:53Oh.
04:54Oh.
04:55Oh.
04:56Oh.
04:57Oh.
04:58Oh.
04:59Oh.
05:00Oh.
05:01Oh.
05:02Oh.
05:03Oh.
05:04Oh.
05:05Oh.
05:06Oh.
05:07Oh.
05:08Oh.
05:09The moon's full.
05:10The eyes are big.
05:11In Ridge's world, that's how you see it, huh, baby?
05:13Something like that.
05:14I like that.
05:15All right.
05:16Only in Ridge's world, but I like it.
05:20We don't be putting our hands in there and making these beautiful, nice, soft releases
05:27because here in the back country of the Florida Keys, you could lose digits.
05:32That's right.
05:33Get him, Bob.
05:35Nice.
05:36Third time's a charm, huh?
05:37Huh?
05:38Third time's a charm.
05:39There goes another one.
05:40Look at that one.
05:41Big one.
05:42So what are they doing up here, Ridge?
05:43Huh?
05:44Look at them all spooking.
05:45What are they doing up here?
05:46They're just laying in these holes, you know?
05:47They're trying to stay out of the way from the sharks.
05:48Is that what you think?
05:49I think so.
05:50I think the patterns may be changing a little bit.
05:51They definitely want to be on the edges of these deep trenches, but a fish that size,
05:56he's big enough to get eaten by a shark, and he can still climb up on the flat and hide from them.
06:11Right.
06:12You know?
06:13So it seems like as the water gets a little bit lower, they kind of go into protection mode, you know?
06:24Mm-hmm.
06:25And it's cool because the water's clear enough, you know?
06:27Now we're sight fishing for them, and pretty conditions.
06:30I mean, it's blowing 20.
06:32Real crappy conditions.
06:34And we're having fun with it.
06:35Don't you love when the weatherman or weatherwoman...
06:39They get paid so much money to be wrong.
06:41Yeah.
06:42It's amazing to me.
06:43At the end of the year, be wrong 50% of the time and get a bonus.
06:47That's right.
06:48Amazing.
06:49That's all right.
06:50I need to get a job like that.
06:52We blowing?
06:53We going.
06:56Oh, man.
06:57Get another one, Pop.
07:00So I've been associated or fishing in Everglades National Park for over 45 years.
07:07The first time I came here was in 1974.
07:11And even to this day, it still amazes me.
07:16You know, if you're a fisherman or not, there's so many cool things that the National Park has to offer.
07:23And what I love about the park is that even as many times as I've been here,
07:31seeing the Anhinga and the Gumbo Limbo Trail.
07:35A lot of the little lakes and ponds that are off of the main park road that access from Homestead.
07:44It's still a really neat place to see.
07:48So since 1974, I've seen a lot of changes in the park.
07:52But I will encourage you to, you know, maybe go on one of these trails, the Gumbo Limbo or Anhinga Trail.
07:59Or if you venture as far south at the end of the road, the little town called Flamingo.
08:04You can rent kayaks and canoes there.
08:07You can also go on a tour boat that, one, maybe go see Florida Bay or even go back in the back country of Whitewater Bay.
08:14There's lots of things to do here.
08:16And you can even stay at the new lodge.
08:18But you know what?
08:19It's still a very, very special place.
08:22So from the very top up in the Shark River Valley Basin or all the way down to the bottom to Flamingo,
08:30there's always a lot of cool things to see and to do.
08:33Sportsman's Adventures is brought to you by PowerPole.

08:58Catch trophy fish and ride waves in our beachfront paradise.
09:03Gavlin asked me, he goes, what kind of spoon do you like to use?
09:13I said, the nastiest, rustiest scratched up one I got in the boat.
09:17He's like, why?
09:19Because that thing's gotten bit and it's going to keep getting bit.
09:22Does not matter.
09:25There he is.
09:27Wow.
09:28When it landed.
09:29It hit it as soon as it landed.
09:30It was cool.
09:31just like you said, bro.
09:32That was cool.
09:33That might be a bigger fish.
09:46Yeah, it is a nice one.
09:49Look how black he is, bro.
09:51Yeah, that one was sitting in the holes rather than sitting in the edge of the, you know,
09:54sitting in the black hole instead of sitting in the yellow one.
09:59On the edge of the grass instead of the sand.
10:03It's pretty cool.
10:05You know, we're complaining about his blowing 20, or you are.
10:09I'm not complaining because I'm not having to pull.
10:12But how do you like pulling this boat?
10:14It's unbelievable.
10:15I'm sitting here holding into the wind and making headway.
10:21And it's really, I mean, any other time it would be like this.
10:25It'd fall over to one side.
10:26We're just holding true right now.
10:27It's pretty awesome.
10:2918-foot boat.
10:30With a 150, not even a 70 or a 115 like these guys normally put on them.
10:35And we're up here floating in seven, eight inches.
10:39Not in the channel, of course, but when we were going down the edge.
10:43But what I like too, Ridge, is when it comes tournament time with the 150, how fast?
10:50We're doing 72, 70, 68 in the mornings.
10:55I mean, it's a fast boat.
10:57You know what I got to be careful of is this Penn Authority is one of those high speed ones.
11:03And it's designed specifically for ripping stuff.
11:08Yeah, sometimes you got to slow it down a little.
11:11Yeah, I got to slow my reeling down a little bit so that my spoon's not skipping on the surface with all this wind.
11:18Especially when you don't throw straight into it.
11:20You got it out to the side there.
11:22You know, so many times that you see people get excited and the common mistake they make with that spoon is they're ripping it real fast.
11:30You tell them, okay, I want you to reel it as fast as you can without skipping across the top of the water.
11:34And they start doing that, but then they get so excited and typically, you know, more so with redfish,
11:39go up and the fish raises up behind it and goes to eat it.
11:43And then they set the hook and it rips it right out of their face completely.
11:46Or the nose of the redfish bumps it out of the water and it goes flying five feet.
11:50He just ate it.
11:53That one landed on him and he ate it and you're sitting there spectating.
11:59I think these fish are hungry.
12:04Amazing catching the big snooks like this up here in six inches of water, Bo.
12:10Yeah.
12:11Crazy, crazy.
12:12Awesome.
12:14It really is fun, man.
12:17That's a fish that you can catch in all kinds of different scenarios and it never gets old.
12:23So let me ask you, Ridge, on those days when it's not blowing 20,
12:26can you come up here and sight fish these fish with a fly?
12:29Absolutely.
12:30Yeah?
12:31Absolutely.
12:32They'll be up laying in the holes.
12:34And more times than not, you'll actually be able to see them, you know?
12:37And so that way you can present a bait to them.
12:40And worst comes to worst, if your eyes aren't that good,
12:43you can just sit there and, you know, blind cast in the holes and catch them too.
12:47Yeah.
12:48But it's a good way to get yourself ready for some of these bigger fish, you know?
12:52And red fish, like sight fishing for snooks and reds, that prepares you for that tarpon season or, you know, whatever.
12:58It goes through the motions.
12:59You're still doing your strips.
13:00You're still doing all the things, but you're working on your hook sets and you're casting and you're catching fish doing it, you know?
13:07Yeah.
13:08So it gets you ready for when the time does matter.
13:11The strip strike and all of that stuff.
13:14And it takes the shaky out of it, you know?
13:16It gets the nerves out of it.
13:17You've been going through the motions so much and now, you know, come game time, you're good to go.
13:24I've always been a fan of that, where it's just, whether it's a trout, jack, ladyfish, snook, red, like, just get a line-tight bite, you know?
13:32There's nothing wrong with going through the motions.
13:35Right.
13:38Sportsman's Adventures is brought to you by Ameritrail.
13:43Load.
13:44Launch.
13:45Relax.
13:47Berkeley.
13:48Your fish.
13:49Our science.
13:52The American Fishing Tackle Company.
13:54Any fish.
13:55Any water.
13:57And Chittum Boatworks.
13:58Shallow water excellence.
14:01So, guys, my relationship with Yamaha started in 1994.
14:05My first motor was a Yamaha 132 stroke.
14:10And to this day, I still own that motor and on that boat.
14:14It was the first year we started Sportsman's Adventures, which was over 32 years ago.
14:18You know, it probably has between 7,000 and 8,000 hours on it and is still servicing me.
14:27The key to it all is to make sure that you maintain your motors in the right form and fashion.
14:32And, you know, the thing that we really depend on is our relationship with a local dealer.
14:37And what those dealers can have a tendency to offer you is they can educate you not only on what kind of deals are out there if you're thinking about repowering your boat, but they also can help you when it comes to buying extended warranty.
14:53Now, understand that the 425 and the 450 come with a five-year limited warranty.
14:59And then all the other models come with a three-year warranty with an additional two years if you want to purchase that through the dealer as well as two additional years for a 425 and a 450.
15:11So, understanding what the dealer can provide, he can give you a lot of data on how many RPMs does a 70 need to turn so that you have the right prop.
15:22He can also advise you on what you get with a 100-hour check on your SHO 150 or 250.
15:30When you get the first brand-new motor, brand-new boat, you're going to do a service at 20 hours.
15:36So, have a relationship with a dealer.
15:39They can keep you advised on also what fuels there are best to burn through the different motors.
15:46A lot of the motors are designed for 89 octane.
15:49Certainly, in my case, because I love to go fast, we put 93 octane in everything because we get a little extra kick in the pants.
15:58So, if you have any questions, you can certainly go to YamahaOutboards.com.
16:03But I also suggest maybe call your local dealer and start establishing a relationship with him.
16:10As much as Captain Rick loves casting a rod, he loves guiding.
16:16So, he and Ridge are going to switch things up.
16:19Three o'clock. Pull right. Go, go, go, go, go. Slow down. Slow down now. Let it sink.
16:25See him down there on the bottom? He ate it. He just ate it.
16:28Another one with him. It's all about the guide, baby. All about the guide.
16:37Got a good push, man. Got a good push.
16:41That was cool. That was cool. You could see him laying down there on the bottom.
16:54Laying in the hole. Real close quarters.
16:56Yep. Slide it to him. Two of them, baby. Two of them.
17:00There's two or three.
17:02Ricky, I got to catch one. I know that. How about that? How about that?
17:21When was the last time you pushed me?
17:25Probably when you were about 12. That was cool.
17:28I was smart. I thought you had a pole early.
17:31Right? Nice. Thanks.
17:35Yeah. Okay. Your turn to pole again.
17:37Oh, that's it? Good for one, huh?
17:39Now we're in the fish. We might as well let me get back up there, right?
17:44Wow. I see how it is.
17:49There we go.
17:52Looks like another nice snook.
17:55Nice and easy, Pop.
18:00Nice and easy, Pop.
18:01Get him before the t-barone does.
18:13Nope. Not yet.
18:18I got him.
18:19There we go, Ridge.
18:20There we go.
18:21That's a way to break in a new boat right there, Riggie.
18:26You know what? 25 snooks probably today.
18:32Pop that thing out there.
18:33And no big ones until we went to the bottom.
18:37You know, they were all laying on the edge.
18:39Let me get you.
18:40I got it.
18:41There you go.
18:42They were all laying on the edge.
18:43That Berkeley did pretty good for 25 pound. That's pretty good.
18:4630 right there.
18:48On a gulp shrimp, big nice snook, man.
18:51You know, and it's in the hot of the day.
18:53Yeah.
18:54So maybe that's where we were too slow.
18:56We had a little lull.
18:58They slid out and...
19:00Throw in the spoon.
19:01They were all on the edge.
19:02And then as the edge is no edge anymore because it's too shallow,
19:06you made a good suggestion and said,
19:08why don't we go to a quarter ounce jig and bounce the bottom?
19:11You know, we weren't,
19:12we just weren't getting the bites that we were getting before.
19:15And the third...
19:17We got to switch it up a little.
19:18You know, they didn't leave.
19:19We're fishing in the same little areas that we've been fishing.
19:22And yeah, we just got to go with it.
19:25Roll with the punches, you know?
19:26Yeah.
19:27Well, I got to tell you,
19:28I've been fishing flamingo a long time.
19:31Yeah.
19:32Fishing flamingo a long time.
19:34Be careful with those hands in the water.
19:36Yeah, I'm going to get them out here quick.
19:37Yeah, take my time, but...
19:39Pinch them on the little ass and let them go.
19:42You taught me a couple spots.
19:44Yeah.
19:45I like that.
19:46Roll with the times, baby.
19:48Same spot, different tides.
19:50Different places.
19:51Hey, pass me another gulp.
19:53See if I can get another one.
19:55Might want to re-tie that.
19:56Probably need to re-tie that.
19:57Cool, man.
19:58That's fun.
19:59Yeah, man.
20:00Nothing wrong with no fun fishing.
20:01Nope.
20:02We don't do it enough.
20:04Nah, we got to do more of it.
20:06From battling these fierce fighters
20:08to soaking in the breathtaking scenery
20:10of the river of grass,
