00:00In Spain, the housing crisis worsens. Houses have become a luxury for many families.
00:04While prices rise and funds buy entire buildings, some families survive in caravans and others fear eviction.
00:11More details in the following report by Sergio Rodriguez.
00:16In the shadow of this luxury building a trailer, it is the only alternative for many families like Carmen's.
00:22She has been living here for a year with her husband and two children after losing her home.
00:27In this small space, she has faced storms, heavy rains, and weather alerts.
00:34It's freezing cold, my socks are soaking wet, every moment drenched in water.
00:38My sweaters are soaked though, with the brooms, sweeping the water up and down, it's really awful.
00:45She's not the only one. In this improvised camp, there are more and more travel trailers,
00:48like Amber's, who decided to set up in a modern home when she could not afford to rent.
00:55I see that there are many people here who cannot find an apartment, that they are not available,
01:00or that the last option for them to live here is too expensive.
01:06Caravans have become a refuge from the lack of housing in Spain,
01:09but now many of their occupants face eviction.
01:12Camping is illegal in numerous municipalities.
01:17Improvised trailer camps, such as this one, continue to grow in the face of the housing crisis in Spain.
01:22While the authorities want to evict them from the city, evictions continue against the citizens.
01:28In this block, 23 families with rental contracts, some with long-standing rents, fear losing their homes.
01:35A new company has purchased the apartments and is threatening not to renew the contracts and to evict the residents.
01:43It is understood that the food service industry, supposedly, and that implies that there is also precariousness
01:49because all of us in the service sectors know the working conditions that exist
01:53and are becoming increasingly common in neighborhoods that are not in the city center, but are expanding.
01:58They are the subject of speculation because the owners of their apartments want to use them for tourist accommodation,
02:04which means that the local residents have to leave their homes.
02:09Housing is established as one of the main problems for Spaniards.
02:13Between 2019 and 2025, prices have increased by around 40%,
02:17a rise that exceeds the growth in the household disposable income by 10 percentage points.
02:22...de los hogares españoles.
