Hey everyone. Happy New Year. it has been a while, but we had Christmas and New YEars to worry about. After that, my sleeping schedule was fucked, and I was tired CONSTANTLY. I could not stay awake for more than maybe a few hours, and I would fall back asleep again for 4 or so hours. I dealt with that for several days. I am finally better from that, and we are back to recording LEt's Play FEAR 3. This was a frustrating recording session because the game crashed to desktop once, and it would not keep a connection for coop play. I wound up having to do interval 6 by myself for the most part. Hopefully 7 and 8 do not give us this kind of trouble. Thanks for watching anyway. I hope you enjoy.

The song at the end is Lost Soul by Carnage

00:00Hello everyone and welcome back to Let's Play Fear 3. As always, I am your host, DoomDog, with me is Dalton. Say hello.
00:10Hello.
00:11It has been a while since the last episode of Fear 3, and I'm sorry about that. I managed to screw up my sleeping schedule, so I was always asleep, falling asleep, any time I would have been able to record with Dalton.
00:26I had to fix that, and then by the time I fixed that, he was on vacation, and I recorded episodes of Let's Play Oblivion with Eddie Tammy, and Let's Play Far Cry 4 with Philosopher Leo.
00:48I hope you guys enjoyed those. As we're recording this, I still have two episodes of Far Cry 4 to upload, so we're recording this on the 10th.
01:08Let's try hosting a co-op game.
01:18Why are all these...
01:27Steam Profile...
01:45I don't need this many tabs open, Steam. I didn't even know Steam had tabs.
01:53Okay, where the fu...
02:02Okay, where the fu...
02:15That's you.
02:16How do I invite you to the fucking game again?
02:22I think you should be able just to send an invite through the...
02:26Friends thing.
02:27Uh, invite to game. See if that works.
02:30Yep.
02:32There we go. We gotta figure it out. It's been a while. Sorry.
02:36Okay, we're in up to interval seven, and this is where we need to go find the main character of, uh, the second game.
02:51I don't remember why, but we have to go find him. Hopefully this works out better.
02:59I thought he died.
03:00Not yet. He does in this game.
03:04Oh.
03:05Spoilers.
03:11Fuck.
03:12Chopper, victim one-one to command.
03:15I can't keep this burnt air more than most of the space in the sky.
03:18Request permission to...
03:20Command! She's out of control! I can barely hold her!
03:23I can barely hold her!
03:30We're in an airport!
03:31Squad, check in!
03:33We're green!
03:35Check in!
03:37Alpha one eyes!
03:42Goddammit!
03:53Eat lead, all of you!
04:13It just...
04:15Oh, my God!
04:18Why?
04:19It didn't do this for the first, like, six episodes.
04:27I don't get it.
04:32Do you want to try hosting?
04:35I can't get to that level.
04:39You can't get to this level?
04:42Because I didn't...
04:43I wasn't the one who was...
04:44I wasn't actually playing the game, so...
04:47Oh.
04:48Oh, right.
04:49Because I was joining your game.
04:51For some reason, that doesn't count as progress.
04:54For you.
04:55That's stupid.
04:57That's all Halo worked, too, for some reason.
04:59Yeah.
05:01Well, there we didn't have a problem.
05:03With this shit.
05:08We didn't really have a problem with it dropping when we were doing Halo.
05:12It's just this game, and I don't know why.
05:23Oh, if this doesn't work, I'm gonna have to do it solo again, and I don't want to do that.
05:27But, I'll do that if it means getting through it.
05:40Then we'll hopefully pick...
05:42Get this far.
05:43Mm-hmm.
05:44Mm-hmm.
05:45Mm-hmm.
05:46Mm-hmm.
05:50Chopper Victor, one-one to command.
05:51I can't use this burned airborne with all these disturbances in disguise.
05:55Request permission to go...
05:57Commander!
05:58She's out of control!
05:59I can barely hold her!
06:00Watch your status!
06:02We've got a hostile target.
06:03All crawl signs, this is Command.
06:04All crawl signs, this is Command.
06:05All crawl signs, this is Command.
06:06You're dead.
06:07Aft.
06:08The disturbances in sky.
06:09Aft.
06:10Aft.
06:11Aft.
06:12Aft.
06:13Aft.
06:14Aft.
06:15Aft.
06:16Aft.
06:17Aft.
06:18Aft.
06:19Aft.
06:20Aft.
06:21Aft.
06:22Aft.
06:23Aft.
06:24Aft.
06:25Aft.
06:26Aft.
06:27Now, one of the reasons why we wanted to do this is so we could play it through at co-op.
06:30Aft.
06:31Yeah, I was really looking forward to playing this, but I mean, at least we made it at least
06:37like three-quarters of the way through co-op, at least.
06:40Yeah.
06:41Still.
06:42We still have this level and another one after this to go.
06:47There it is, yep.
06:50Yep.
06:51I'm gonna have to do it by myself, aren't I?
06:56Well this sucks.
06:58Sorry, dude.
07:00No, that's nothing you can do about it.
07:04Apparently this is the problem a lot of people have.
07:09I've been looking online and a lot of people just- I don't think there even is a fix for
07:13it.
07:14That's so dumb.
07:19So where'd you go on vacation?
07:31Uh, Royal Caribbean ship, Utopia of the Seas, went to their private island and stuff in
07:49the Bahamas for three nights.
07:52That sounds fun.
07:54Yeah.
07:55It was the first time on a Royal ship.
07:57What'd you do out there?
07:59I would just- I hung out on their beach and stuff, even though it was- even down there
08:06was still in like the low 60s, upper 50s.
08:09So I mean it's- it's kinda too chilly to enjoy in like that- that type of weather down there.
08:16That's- that's usually down there.
08:18Yeah.
08:19Yeah.
08:20It's a little too chilly to go swimming.
08:22And then like, of course, like the top decks of the ship were cold, so they can't really
08:29be there either.
08:31Too much.
08:32Yeah.
08:33Just like hung out on the ship most of the time with the shows and bars and- just hung
08:40out.
08:41I don't know.
08:42It still sounds fun though.
08:43Yeah, it was.
08:44All call scientists' command.
08:45Be advised, the disturbances in the sky- I just can't get over how cold- like even down
08:56there it's getting cold as hell.
08:58Like Florida was fuckin' in like the upper 20s.
09:00Which is- it was fuckin' I- I've never felt that cold in Florida.
09:05I didn't know Florida got that cold.
09:08There's like- there's snow and- there's supposed- it's supposed- it's supposed to be
09:11like some areas of Florida like- I don't know if they got snow, but they were supposed
09:16to.
09:17Yeah, I didn't even know Florida got that cold, man.
09:22That's- very rarely.
09:24I'm not sure how Texas is.
09:30It does not usually get that cold.
09:33It had- we had a few days where it did and it was miserable, but- it usually doesn't get
09:37that cold here.
09:39It usually doesn't get that cold here.
09:50I cannot go under the plane.
09:52It won't let me.
09:55I got the script written for the Prey video.
10:01I finished revising it last night, so- I might record it tonight.
10:07I might not.
10:09Because I'm gonna be editing this tonight and I kinda wanna do something that doesn't involve
10:16working on my computer for a little while.
10:22It's gonna break.
10:23Yeah.
10:24It's a long script.
10:25I mean, I did a bunch of research because- I don't know if you knew this about the 2006
10:38game, Prey, but it had a long development cycle.
10:42It started development in 1995 and came out in 2006.
10:50Mine are fucking- Yeah, hurt like, yeah.
10:53His creatures.
10:54Go ahead.
10:55Wasn't there a- wasn't there like a- just kinda like Duke Duke Duke Duke of Forever where
11:00they made like a- there was like a build that like had like a trailer and stuff and-
11:05Yeah, there was a 1997 or 98 trailer.
11:08And they had, um, the ability- it didn't make it into the final game, but they had the ability
11:25to place a portal in one spot and then place the other end of the portal in another spot
11:31and like shoot bullets through them or transport from one area to another through them.
11:38Like, like, just like in the game Portal.
11:43In, uh, 1998- Wow.
11:45Like, you can see- there's video footage of the guy- of, uh, interview with a guy at 3D
11:51Rome showing that off and they wanted to put a portal gun into the final build that came
11:58out in 2006 and just didn't have the budget for it.
12:01They got more of those commanders in the field looking for you.
12:05Uh, it's just mind-blowing that they had portal tech working that- that early on.
12:14I wonder how good it would have been.
12:18We'll never know because it didn't come out.
12:23It probably would have been as seamless as it- as it was in Portal.
12:29It probably would have had some kind of, uh, like, small, like, loading aspect to it.
12:34I always really liked, uh, in the- this area of this game, the reflection of the rain falling.
12:43You can see through the lights on the different surfaces.
12:47I always really liked how that looks in this game.
13:04But, yeah, it's, uh, it's really cool, um, and the- the game we got is awesome.
13:10I don't know if you've played the 2006 game, Prey.
13:13No, I mean, I- I got it on- I got a secondhand Steam key for it, so I have it on Steam even
13:19though it's not on- on the storefront anymore.
13:21But I haven't- I don't think I actually played it yet, though.
13:24Uh, take, uh, uh, do take the time to, uh, play through it at some point.
13:38Like, before you watch my video, I would say, because, uh, you know how I go through the
13:45whole fuckin' story, so you wanna- don't wanna spoil that for yourself.
13:49I would recommend playing it for yourself, because it is awesome.
13:52Does it run well?
13:56Yeah, it- um, you'll have to do some tweaking to, like, INI files and whatnot to get it to
14:05run properly.
14:06Oh, yeah.
14:07Because it does not have support for modern HD resolutions.
14:13But you can get it running just fine.
14:15Like, I- like, I recorded it 1440p and it ran just fine.
14:20I've still got a physical copy is what I've got from way back in the day.
14:28I- I had this special edition that came with the, uh, uh, came in the, uh, what are the
14:35metal cases called that-
14:37The steel box or steel case or-
14:39Yeah.
14:40Yeah, that.
14:41That came with the little figurine of a hunter from the game and Tommy.
14:47As well as an art book.
14:52I don't know how much that's worth now.
14:55Good question.
14:56But I have no intention of selling mine.
14:59That's how I am with a lot of my games.
15:04Even, like, the rare, like, survival horror PS2 games I got.
15:08I'm like, how about getting rid of it?
15:10Uh, you have, uh, Rule of Rose or Rumble Rose or whatever that one's called.
15:16Don't you?
15:17Is that wrong?
15:18Yeah, yeah, I have, I have Rumble Rose, uh, Haunting Ground.
15:22Haunting Ground was the one with the dog, right?
15:25Yeah.
15:26Get your fucking heads down!
15:31It's funny you said Rumble Rose, cause Rumble Rose is that, like, dead or alive kind of, like, girl wrestling game.
15:37Um.
15:38I didn't know there were two different games.
15:41I haven't heard that name in years.
15:44I've brought me back to watching D4 and shit.
15:47But, yeah.
15:48Well, we just got popped!
15:51Well, there's also, like, I have Clock Tower 2 struggle with them on PS1.
15:56That's a lot of, a lot of money, apparently.
15:58Like, it seems like all these horror games are worth it.
16:01I'm glad Clock Tower got re-released, even if I kinda don't like, uh, limited run games.
16:06Just on principle, because they fired someone for the dumbest of reasons.
16:11You see that shit?
16:12Yeah, I heard, I forgot about that.
16:14Yeah, they fired someone for following, uh, Gaze Against Groomers on, uh, Twitter.
16:23Literally just following someone on Twitter.
16:24That is the dumbest fuckin' reason to fire someone.
16:40Yeah, that wasn't, that was, I guess it was a long time ago now.
16:49That seems like it.
16:52Yeah, that was a few years ago.
16:57Yeah, I got the special edition of that, the Clock Tower thing they did.
17:05Uh, I would love, I would admittedly love to have that, uh, I would, but, you can get
17:12the Clock Tower re-release they did on Steam with the original Clock Tower.
17:16I've always wanted to play it, just, the concept of survival horror type of game, I realize it
17:23wasn't technically a genre yet at that time, but, that, on, uh, the, uh, Super Famicom.
17:33Yeah, Super Famicom.
17:34Yeah, Super, yeah, Super Nintendo, essentially.
17:36It was, it's just so cool.
17:38To me.
17:39Yeah, it really, yeah, it really was, cause, um, I mean, I mean, it, it, it's, it's kinda,
17:46I wanna, I wanna say it's hard to play, but, like, it's definitely, like, like, you, it's
17:51like a trial and error sort of thing.
17:53Like, you, like, you learn just by dying, and, like, there's a lot of different endings
17:58you can get, doing certain things and not doing certain things.
18:03But, like, once you know what to do, like, you can beat the game, like, really quick.
18:09I don't know if you saw, but Gog recently gave away, you can't get it, like, they gave away,
18:16uh, uh, Alone in the Dark 1, 2, and 3 for free.
18:22Oh, really?
18:23I didn't, I didn't see that.
18:24Yeah.
18:25So, I hope people pick that up.
18:28I think I already have them, but I'll check anyway.
18:31I'll check anyway.
18:32Yeah, if nothing else, then, then just, for the historical factor of Alone in the Dark 1,
18:38is pretty much the first survival horror game.
18:43Yeah, yeah.
18:45They're only the first three-year one.
18:48Yeah, I know there's an argument to be made about Sweet Home, whether it's RPG or Survival Horror
18:53or whatever.
18:54Whatever.
18:55Because it inspired Resident Evil.
18:58Yeah.
18:59I don't believe it when people say that Alone in the Dark didn't, because there's so much
19:06similarity between Alone in the Dark, the first one, and the first Resident Evil.
19:13There is so much similar between the two.
19:16So, I don't buy it when people say that it wasn't a big inspiration on it.
19:21Yellow in the Dark definitely was.
19:28Did you ever hear of the game called Project Firestart for the Commodore 64?
19:33No, I can't say I did.
19:36Apparently, that was the first survival horror game, because it had, like, it literally
19:41had limited resources, item management, it was kind of inspired by aliens, kind of.
19:48Like, I never even heard, like, I don't know why it's so, like, under the radar, because
19:54it's, like, straight up, like, survival horror on the Commodore 64 in, like, the 80s.
19:59Fascinating.
20:00No, I haven't heard of that at all.
20:03Like, you would think some kind of History of Survival Horror video, which I've watched
20:08numerous of, would mention it.
20:09Oh, there's a...
20:10That reminds me, actually.
20:13There is a...
20:14Do you know that one channel called, like, Ahoy?
20:17Yeah.
20:18Like, I think he did, like, kind of a recent video about horror games, and I think that's
20:21where I learned about it, actually.
20:23Ahoy does good work.
20:25Like, I've seen their...
20:26They did a video on Quake that was really good.
20:29Beyond that, I also talked about Prey 2, and God, going back into Prey 2 made me want
20:40it so fucking bad, because it's...
20:42All the gameplay we saw, and everything we heard about it just looked so fucking cool,
20:49dude.
20:50And it's such a shame we never got Prey 2.
21:02And I don't begrudge the game, the 2017 game we got, that's got nothing to do with the original
21:08at all, really.
21:10I mean, it's supposed to be a spiritual successor to System Shock.
21:14And I love System Shock 1 and 2.
21:16Those games are amazing.
21:17So I can't, you know, I can't hate it.
21:24Yeah.
21:29But, uh, I would've loved doing it.
21:32I'm trying to find a way to you, but it isn't looking good.
21:35Just...
21:36All that video I was talking about, apparently, is by a channel called Never Knows Best.
21:42It wasn't Ahoy.
21:43Uh-huh.
21:44But he does good stuff, too.
21:46I almost missed this body down here.
21:49The, uh, uh, that, uh...
21:54That sounds interesting.
21:55I had never even heard of it.
21:57I...
21:58I would've thought some survival horror thing...
22:02Like, I've seen survival horror ones even mention Haunted House, or whatever it's called
22:07on the Atari 2600.
22:08On the Atari, yeah.
22:09Which...
22:10Like, is incredibly primitive.
22:14But it is also kinda sorta where horror began in video games, so I get it.
22:22Or, like, a 3D monster maze on the...
22:25I-I-I-I can't remember...
22:26Well, I don't think it was the Apple, too, but it was...
22:29It was one of those early, uh, computers.
22:31Like, those home computers.
22:32Yeah.
22:33I'm advancing!
22:34Get eyes on the target!
22:35Why was I stuck in place?
22:36Did you see it?
22:37That's a negative!
22:38I couldn't move there for a second.
22:50Found him!
22:55I died.
22:59I have a soft spot for the 2600 in general, though.
23:07Yeah, I do, too.
23:11Like...
23:12I...
23:13It was my first home console as a kid, so I've really got a soft spot for it.
23:19That was one of the game systems I played a lot when I was a kid.
23:24Believe it or not.
23:25Yeah, it was a hand-me-down.
23:26They got me any ass and stuff.
23:27It was...
23:28I mean, I'm not that old.
23:29It was a hand-me-down, so...
23:30Same.
23:31Yeah, it was a hand-me-down 2600 that my grandparents had in the basement, and they
23:36let my brother and I have it, and we played a bunch of games on it, and it was awesome.
23:41It was fun.
23:42I loved the thing.
23:45And I want one of those 2600 HDMI things, where you just put your 2600 cartridge in and it
23:57works through high depth.
23:58It's like one of the new ones they're making.
24:14Yeah, I think Analog has put out one.
24:21They just put out a Nintendo 64 HD.
24:26Got a visual?
24:28And Analog does incredibly high quality stuff.
24:31You pay a pretty penny for it, but you get incredibly high quality.
24:35Are you familiar with them?
24:38I don't think so.
24:41They did...
24:42They did...
24:43They first became well-known when they did a wood...
24:48A made-out-of-wood version of the...
24:52What was the home console version of the...
24:56The SNK arcade machine?
25:04With Neo Geo?
25:05Yeah.
25:06They did a made-out-of-wood Neo Geo that plugged in through HDMI.
25:18That's cool, because those things are fucking expensive.
25:21Yeah.
25:22So is getting a copy of that.
25:28Getting a physical one now.
25:30Even when it was new, it was expensive.
25:32More expensive now.
25:33Yeah.
25:34But you have to get it used.
25:37I mean, it's pretty much like a...
25:39Like a home arcade, pretty...
25:41Like all the graphics were exactly the same, pretty much.
25:43Yeah, the cheapest way to get it is to get the...
25:46The...
25:47The CD version of it.
25:49Oh, yeah.
25:50Neo Geo CD.
25:51And you have to...
25:52And the load times.
25:54Oh, my God.
25:55You go back to the PlayStation 1, you think load times on that are bad?
26:00I can only imagine.
26:05It is so much worse.
26:09I've never owned one.
26:12I've only, you know, seen videos about it.
26:19And every single one of them talked about how terrible the load times are on that thing.
26:26It was like a 1x CD-ROM, so that makes sense.
26:33Reading the data as slow as humanly possible.
26:36Oh, yeah.
26:37Oh, yeah.
26:44Feel the core to get metal slug on that.
26:46Oh, yeah.
26:47Oh, yeah.
26:48Ah!
26:49Yeah!
26:50Ah!
26:51Ah!
26:52Ah!
26:53Ah!
26:54Ah!
26:55I got a visual!
27:00There was a lot of metal slug getting released for that one there.
27:08Oh, I'm not sure.
27:09Because I think it was br-at least 1, 2, and p3.
27:17Which we've all done...
27:19Which we've done and reviewed on the channel.
27:21We've done all three.
27:22Is there are there any more Metal Slug Gangs on Steam there's yeah I think all of them are
27:37because I would love to do more of those on this channel at some point that'd be fun because which
27:43ones did we do we did one two three did we do X I think that's the only I think it's the same as
27:49yeah well I think X is like an updated version of like three or two there's also there's double
27:59wax there's I don't think all of them are on Steam I think there's a like some of the one on that those
28:06on the ps2 is out on here for the PSP or the one of the ones in the anthology I don't have that big of
28:17selection I thought they did yeah I don't remember I didn't remember there being too many of them on
28:21Steam I forgot how many there were in the series I guess there's yeah I played a couple of the newer
28:30ones on ps4 I know it goes up to at least seven so I decided that there's a huge video that I want to
28:40do that's going to be expensive because I'm gonna have to buy a lot of video games in order to get
28:50it done and that is the history of real-time strategy games on console because I find real-time strategy
29:01games on console to be just a fascinating subject because it's inherently inferior just by nature
29:10because it's playing RTS just naturally better if you have a mouse you know
29:24okay I see yeah I guess I guess we could play metal slug double wax because that's a reimagining of
29:48the seventh game on the DS but apparently the Steam ports apparently shit judging by the reviews that's
29:56unfortunate it's $20 of God there did I finally win
