01:19to solve a 230-year-old treasure mystery.

01:25led us to this area being the money pit.
01:27We just needed to find the right spot in depth,
01:29beneath 150 feet.

01:31Whatever was put in the money pit,
01:34it fell to where it could fall no more.

01:43The team is currently drilling a borehole
01:46in the fabled money pit area known as J-9.
01:49A borehole, located where they believe
01:53the original treasure shaft,
01:55first discovered in 1795,
01:58has collapsed after more than two centuries
02:00of repeated excavations
02:02and fallen into a massive natural cavity
02:05in the bedrock known as the solution channel,
02:09between 150 and 220 feet underground.
02:13We're looking for what hopefully
02:15Pit Glado found in 1849.

02:46It was recovered during a drilling operation
02:49in 1849 from nearly 100 feet deep
02:53in the money pit by James Pit Glado,
02:55a drilling foreman who kept the discovery a secret.

04:41that suggest both may have been used
04:43as campsites by different groups

04:53that just like the 14th century lead cross

04:57may be related to the Knights Templar.

08:03are exactly the same thing,
08:05which you kind of see
08:07just from the look of it
08:08that they belong
08:08to the same piece.
08:10Based on the list
08:11of impurities,
08:12it's Meganese content.
08:15I would put this
08:16around mid-1800s
08:17to late-1800s.
08:19The dates that Emma
08:20is relating to us
08:22indicate Searcher.

08:25in 1849,
08:26when they were doing
08:27their drilling
08:27and they brought up
08:28the coin
08:29that had been played

08:33members of the Truro Company

08:38of nearly 90 feet.

08:42a wooden platform
08:43at a depth of 30 feet
08:44in the pit,
08:46they began
08:46a drilling operation.
08:48At approximately
08:49100 feet,
08:51they reportedly struck
08:52two stacked chests,
08:54which they failed
08:54to recover
08:55due to catastrophic flooding.
08:58However,
08:59the company's foreman,
09:00named James Pitt Leto,
09:01is believed
09:02to have recovered
09:03the 14th-century
09:04silver Portuguese coin
09:05from the end
09:06of the drill bit.
09:08They were drilling
09:09when they knew
09:09where the money pit was.
09:11So my hope is
09:12we're going to find
09:12more of those

09:35to try to find treasure,

14:26which means a decorative shield.
14:30It's Portuguese 14th century.
14:33There's clearly a connection
14:35to the Templars
14:36because of the design
14:37of this coin.
14:38You have the cross.

14:41And that's basically
14:42the religious Templar
14:44connotation on the back
14:45and the celebration
14:47of the king
14:47on the outburst side.
14:49This would be
14:50after the Knights Templar
14:51were technically disband,
14:53but there was still
14:54a lot of involvement
14:55with the monarch
14:56and the Templar.
14:58You know,
14:58secretly, obviously.
15:00And this was an ode
15:01to the Templar.
15:03It's a fairly unique item
15:05because it was only minted
15:06from 1367 to probably 83.

15:14of the Knights Templar
