00:00She wasn't born into royalty. She didn't come with riches, armies, or power.
00:06Just an orphan, raised in exile.
00:09A foreign girl, living under the rule of the world's most powerful empire.
00:15Yet she was chosen. Not by chance. Not by beauty alone.
00:21She was positioned by divine purpose, hidden behind palace walls for such a time as this.
00:26But while kings drank from golden cups and nobles plotted in secret, a quiet battle was brewing.
00:33One that wouldn't be fought with swords or chariots, but with fasting, faith, and the bravery to speak when silence could mean death.
00:42Her name was Esther, and this isn't just the story of a queen.
00:46It's the story of how God saved a people through the most unlikely of heroes.
00:52In the days of King Xerxes, who ruled over 127 provinces from India to Ethiopia, his power stretched across the known world.
01:05From his throne in Susa, he reigned with absolute authority.
01:09To display his greatness, Xerxes held a lavish feast for 180 days, inviting nobles, princes, and military leaders from across the empire.
01:21Gold goblets and royal wine flowed freely.
01:24When those six months ended, the king opened the palace gates to everyone in Susa, hosting a seven-day banquet in the garden courtyard.
01:33Wine was served generously, with no restrictions.
01:36Meanwhile, Queen Vashti hosted a separate feast for the women inside the palace.
01:42But on the seventh day, when the king was merry with wine, he made a prideful demand.
01:47That Queen Vashti be brought before the guests wearing her royal crown, so they could admire her beauty.
01:54Vashti refused.
01:55She would not parade herself before a drunken crowd.
01:59The king's pride was wounded.
02:01His own queen had publicly defied him.
02:03Enraged and humiliated, Xerxes turned to his wise men.
02:09One advisor, Memucan, warned that her defiance would spread.
02:14He said,
02:15All women will hear of this, and dishonor their husbands.
02:20They urged the king to remove Vashti and issue a decree throughout the empire,
02:26that every man should rule his own household.
02:29The king agreed, a royal edict was sent to every province in every language, and Queen Vashti was dethroned.
02:39But little did they know, God's unseen hand had just begun to move.
02:45As time passed, King Xerxes' anger faded, and he began to reflect on Queen Vashti,
02:52her beauty, her beauty, her bold defiance, and the decree that banished her.
02:59Though the law could not be undone, her absence lingered.
03:03Sensing the king's mood, his advisors proposed a solution.
03:07Let beautiful young virgins be brought from every province.
03:11After beauty treatments, the king can choose a new queen to replace Vashti.
03:16The king agreed.
03:18Messengers were sent across all 127 provinces,
03:22and young women were gathered from every corner of the empire, from India to Ethiopia.
03:27Among them was Hadassah, known by her Persian name Esther,
03:32a young Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, a Jew living in Susa.
03:39He had taught her to fear God and keep her identity hidden in a foreign land.
03:43Esther was taken to the palace and placed under Haggai, the keeper of the women.
03:48Immediately, she stood out, not by demanding luxury, but through humility and grace.
03:55God gave her favor in everyone's eyes, especially Haggai's.
04:00For twelve months, Esther, like all the women, was prepared for her one appearance before the king.
04:06When her time came, she entered the king's presence with quiet dignity and strength.
04:12And when Xerxes saw her, he was captivated.
04:16The king loved Esther more than all the other women.
04:20She won his favor, and he placed the royal crown on her head, making her queen in place of Vashti.
04:27A royal banquet was held in her honor, a holiday was proclaimed, and gifts were sent across the empire.
04:34But no one knew she was a Jew.
04:36No one knew God had just placed his servant in the palace, not to be served, but to stand in the gap for his people.
04:45Esther continued to live quietly in the king's house, still following the instructions of Mordecai, just as she had when he raised her as a child.
04:53Mordecai, meanwhile, spent his days at the king's gate, a place where the city's business was conducted and where royal officials and servants gathered.
05:03Though he was no nobleman, God had placed him there with purpose.
05:08One day, as Mordecai sat in his usual place, he overheard something chilling.
05:13Two of the king's eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, who guarded the entrance to the palace, were speaking in hushed, angry tones.
05:22Their voices low but full of resentment, they plotted to assassinate King Xerxes.
05:27What they intended was treason, the murder of the most powerful man in the world.
05:32Mordecai didn't hesitate.
05:33He sent word immediately to Queen Esther, who now had direct access to the king.
05:38Esther relayed the warning to Xerxes, clearly stating that the information came from Mordecai.
05:44An investigation was launched.
05:46The matter was examined thoroughly, and the truth was uncovered.
05:50The two guards were guilty.
05:52They had indeed conspired against the king.
05:56And by Persian law, the punishment for such betrayal was swift and brutal.
06:01They were hanged on the gallows.
06:03The king's life was spared, but the moment passed without fanfare.
06:10Mordecai's role in exposing the plot was recorded in the book of the Chronicles,
06:14a royal record of significant events kept in the king's presence.
06:18But strangely, no reward was given.
06:22No public honor.
06:24No recognition.
06:25No title.
06:27Just a name in a book, quietly inked into the records of the empire.

06:43After some time, King Xerxes promoted Haman the Agagite to the highest rank among his officials.
06:50All were ordered to bow to him, but Mordecai refused.
06:55Day after day, Haman saw his defiance and burned with anger.
07:01When he learned that Mordecai was a Jew, Haman's hatred grew deeper.
07:06He didn't just want to punish Mordecai.
07:08He wanted to destroy all Jews throughout the empire.
07:12Haman cast lots, Purim, to choose the day.
07:16Then he approached the king with deceitful words.
07:19There is a certain people scattered through your provinces.
07:23They live differently and don't follow your laws.
07:27It's not in your interest to tolerate them.
07:31The king agreed, giving Haman his signet ring.
07:34A royal decree was sent to all 127 provinces.
07:39On the 13th day of the 12th month, every Jew, young and old, was to be killed.
07:46As the couriers spread the message, Susa fell into confusion.
07:52Mourning broke out among the Jews.
07:55When Mordecai learned of the decree, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes,
08:01and wept bitterly in the streets of Susa.
08:04Across the empire, Jews fasted, mourned, and cried out as their destruction had been sealed.
08:11When Esther heard Mordecai was in mourning, she sent a messenger to him to find out why.
08:17Through the messenger, Mordecai urged her to go before the king and plead for her people.
08:24But Esther was afraid.
08:25She replied,
08:26No one may approach the king without being summoned.
08:29The penalty is death, unless he holds out the golden scepter.
08:34And I haven't been called for 30 days.
08:37Mordecai's answer to the messenger was bold.
08:39Do not think you will escape in the palace.
08:43If you stay silent, deliverance will come from somewhere else.
08:47But you and your family will perish.
08:50And who knows?
08:51Perhaps you were made queen for such a time as this.
08:55Esther's fear gave way to faith.
08:58She replied,
08:59Go, gather all the Jews in Susa.
09:03Fast for me for three days.
09:05I will go to the king, even if it costs me my life.
09:08If I perish, I perish.
09:12On the third day, dressed in her royal robes, Esther courageously entered the inner court of the palace.
09:18The king saw her standing there and extended the golden scepter toward her.
09:23With relief and hope, Esther touched the tip of the scepter.
09:27Then the king asked warmly,
09:30What is your request, Queen Esther?
09:33Even up to half the kingdom it will be granted.
09:37Esther replied,
09:38If it pleases the king, come to a banquet I have prepared for you in Haman.
09:43The king smiled, intrigued by her invitation, and readily agreed.
09:48And both he and Haman attended Esther's banquet.
09:53Yet, throughout the meal, Esther did not speak of her petition.
09:58Instead, she observed the king closely, her eyes searching for the right moment.
10:05Before the meal ended, Esther extended another invitation.
10:08Please come again tomorrow, and then I will share my true request.
10:13The king's interest deepened, and Haman's curiosity grew, both eager and uncertain about what Esther's plea might be.
10:23That night, King Xerxes lay awake, restless and troubled.
10:27Nothing could soothe his mind, not the royal wine, nor the comforts of his palace.
10:33Desperate for distraction, he ordered his servants to bring the Book of the Chronicles,
10:38the official record of the kingdom's events.
10:40As the scribes read, the king's eyes caught a long-forgotten entry, Mordecai's name.
10:47The record told how Mordecai had uncovered a plot against the king's life,
10:51an act of loyalty that had saved Xerxes from assassination.
10:55But despite the gravity of this deed, Mordecai had never been rewarded.
11:01Deeply moved, Xerxes asked his advisors,
11:04What honor or recognition has been given to Mordecai for this?
11:08The advisor replied, Nothing has been done for him.
11:12The king sat in thoughtful silence.
11:15How could such loyalty go unrewarded?
11:19At that very moment, Haman entered the palace,
11:22intending to ask the king for permission to hang Mordecai on a gallows he had built.
11:27But before he could speak, the king summoned him in.
11:30Haman, the king said, What should be done for the man the king delights to honor?
11:36Puffed up with arrogance, Haman imagined the king meant him.
11:40He responded with a detailed plan.
11:43Let the man be clothed in the king's royal robes, which the king himself has worn.
11:49Let a royal crown be placed on his head,
11:51and let him be led on the king's own horse through the city streets.
11:55A noble official should ride before him, proclaiming,
11:59This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor.
12:03The king smiled and said,
12:04Go at once!
12:06Do everything you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew,
12:10who sits at the king's gate.
12:12Do not neglect anything!
12:15Haman's face turned pale, his heart pounding with dread.
12:19He was forced to carry out the honor he had planned for himself,
12:22but instead it was given to his enemy.
12:25Humbled and bitter,
12:26Haman led Mordecai through the city streets,
12:29proclaiming his honor just as he had described.
12:33When he returned home, his spirit was crushed.
12:36He told his wife and friends everything that had happened,
12:40his anger and humiliation clear.
12:43They warned him,
12:45If Mordecai is of Jewish origin,
12:47you will not stand against him.
12:49You will surely come to ruin.
12:52And so Haman's plot to destroy the Jews grew darker,
12:56but his pride had already been wounded
12:59by the king's unexpected favor toward Mordecai.
13:03At the second banquet Esther had prepared,
13:05the king and Haman took their seats once again beside the queen.
13:09King Xerxes looked at her intently and asked once more,
13:13What is your request, Queen Esther?
13:16Speak, for your wish shall be granted,
13:18even to half the kingdom.
13:20With courage and conviction, Esther spoke her heart.
13:24If I have found favor in your sight, O king,
13:27and if it pleases you, grant me my life.
13:30This is my petition,
13:32and spare my people.
13:34This is my request.
13:36The king's expression shifted,
13:38a flash of shock crossing his face.
13:41Esther continued,
13:42For we have been sold, distressed,
13:45I and my people,
13:47to be destroyed, killed, and annihilated.
13:50Had we merely been sold as slaves and servants,
13:53I would have kept silent,
13:55for no such distress would justify troubling the king.
13:58The king's face darkened in shock and anger.
14:01He demanded,
14:02Who is he,
14:03and where is the man who would dare do such a thing?
14:06Esther pointed to Haman,
14:08saying,
14:08The adversary and enemy is this wicked man.
14:13Enraged beyond measure,
14:15King Xerxes rose and left the banquet hall
14:17to cool his fury.
14:19Meanwhile, Haman was terrified.
14:22Seeing the king's anger
14:23and realizing his plot had been exposed,
14:25he rushed to beg Esther for mercy.
14:28In desperation,
14:29he fell on the couch where Esther was reclining.
14:32He clung to her,
14:34pleading for his life.
14:36At that moment,
14:37King Xerxes returned suddenly.
14:40He saw Haman clinging to Esther
14:42and shouted,
14:43Will he even assault the queen
14:45while I am in the house?
14:46The king's guards seized Haman,
14:49and he was swiftly led away
14:50and hanged on the very gallows
14:53he had prepared for Mordecai.
14:55Thus,
14:56the plans of the wicked were overturned
14:58in a single moment,
14:59and justice was served.
15:02After Haman was hanged,
15:04King Xerxes gave his entire estate
15:06to Queen Esther.
15:07She, in turn,
15:08appointed Mordecai over it.
15:11The king also removed his signet ring,
15:13once given to Haman,
15:14and placed it on Mordecai's hand,
15:17giving him royal authority.
15:19But the danger wasn't over.
15:21Though Haman was dead,
15:23his decree remained law.
15:25In Persia,
15:26a royal edict sealed with the king's ring
15:28could not be revoked,
15:30not even by the king himself.
15:33The day of destruction against the Jews
15:36still loomed on the calendar,
15:39the thirteenth day of the twelfth month.
15:42So Esther once again approached the king,
15:45this time not for her life,
15:49but for the life of her people.
15:51How can I bear to see disaster fall on my people?
15:55She pleaded.
15:57King Xerxes granted permission
15:58for a new decree to be written,
16:00one that would counter the first.
16:03Mordecai quickly summoned the royal scribes
16:05and wrote in the king's name,
16:06The Jews in every city
16:09have the right to assemble and defend themselves.
16:11They may destroy anyone who attacks them
16:14and take their enemies' goods if needed.
16:17This decree was sent out swiftly
16:18to all 127 provinces
16:21in every language,
16:23sealed with the king's ring.
16:25As it spread,
16:27hope was revived.
16:28Where there had been mourning,
16:30now there was light
16:32and gladness.
16:33On the appointed day,
16:36the Jews stood united across the empire.
16:39With royal protection
16:40and newfound courage,
16:43they rose up
16:44and defeated their enemies.
16:46In Susa,
16:47800 attackers were struck down,
16:49including Haman's ten sons,
16:52notorious men
16:53who had stood by their father's wicked plans,
16:55who were later hanged
16:57at Esther's request.
16:59Esther also asked
17:00for one more day of defense in Susa,
17:02and the king granted it.
17:04Across the empire,
17:0675,000 enemies were defeated.
17:09Yet again,
17:10the Jews took no plunder.
17:12Their fight was for survival,
17:14not gain.
17:16It was not a day of greed.
17:18It was a day of justice.
17:21When the battle was over,
17:22the people rested.
17:24And what began as a day of dread
17:26became a day of victory
17:28and celebration.
17:30To remember their deliverance,
17:33the Jews established
17:33a yearly celebration
17:35called Purim,
17:37named after the lots
17:38Haman had cast
17:39to plan their destruction,
17:41now a symbol
17:42of God's reversal.
17:44Every year,
17:45on the 14th and 15th of Adar,
17:48they would feast,
17:49rejoice,
17:50send gifts to one another,
17:51and give generously
17:53to the poor.
17:54A day that was once marked
17:56for death
17:57became a day of life.
18:00Mordecai was honored
18:01throughout the empire,
18:03clothed in royal blue and white,
18:05second only to King Xerxes.
18:08But it wasn't his power
18:09that made him great.
18:11It was his heart.
18:13He sought the good
18:14of his people
18:14and spoke peace
18:15and truth to all.
18:17And though God's name
18:18is never mentioned
18:19in the entire book of Esther,
18:22his fingerprints
18:22are everywhere,
18:24in every twist,
18:26every risk,
18:27every rescue.
18:29What was meant
18:30for destruction,
18:32God used for salvation.
18:34The story of Esther
18:35reminds us,
18:37even when God
18:37seems silent,
18:39he is never absent.
18:41Even when the odds
18:42are against us,
18:43he is already at work.
18:44Perhaps you too
18:46are where you are
18:48for such a time as this.
18:50Not by accident,
18:51not unseen,
18:53but chosen,
18:55positioned,
18:56and called.
18:58Because the God
18:59who reversed the fate
19:00of a nation
19:00still writes stories
19:02of redemption today.
19:04And yours
