Golf Monthly gets on board the brand new TaylorMade tour truck for 2025 to see what goes on, what the players get each week and some of the secrets of the trade when it comes to building clubs for some of the world's best players.

00:05tailor-made tour truck so we're gonna have a sneak peek inside meet the team
00:08find out what they get up to and see all of the different things they stock in there
00:12follow me oh wow what'd you say good very impressive thank you very much having us on
00:17the truck no worries so where should we start where do you where do you want to start so what
00:21is new for 2025 i think okay so the glaring obviously thing that i would like to say about
00:27this the old truck versus what we've done on this truck is is right behind us in here is the office
00:32we had a fixed unit in our old truck which is a smaller office you could only really get about
00:37three people in there now i'll bring you through and you show you this big new office that we have
00:42so through here is now our meeting room come chill out area for our players that just want to escape
00:48what's going on hide from you guys the media wow yeah and so yeah it's just like we've got a work
00:54station here so one thing we're big on is showing stats to players it helps when we're building clubs
00:58for these players like spotting gaps in their game where they can get better at um so we'll just sit
01:03here we've got hdmi ports that actually plug it up onto here so we can you can imagine if you're a
01:08player i can show you your stats from the weeks that you've played yeah and then we can just go
01:12through like what areas of the golf bag do we need to create something better for you to play better
01:17golf and that is one thing that we're doing here we have fridges that are in these cabinets here
01:20we've got a massive seating area there wireless chargers you know home away from home is pretty
01:25much debris for this truck i was going to say it is it is very spacious you could live in here quite
01:30comfortably yeah i mean trust me i'll be i'll be lying across there when there's nothing to do is
01:35this when the when the players come on here and they just want to relax have a chat yeah it's kind
01:38of primarily be where they hang out you imagine these players are away for eight weeks at a time right
01:42um you know they've got family at home it's nice to have the doors come shut now and then
01:46you can sit here facetime loved ones and make sure they're okay and then look forward to getting
01:51home i'd imagine so yeah we have like our hats just like general hats that are kept in here nicely
01:56hidden away oh yeah very nice and then the ones that are left there is all our player specific
02:00hats i'll show you those now yeah but normally we would have uh the golf on these tvs here um but
02:08yeah the players will come on and grab their own hats out of here and stuff like that each week
02:12so some familiar names there but mostly our dp world tour players very cool so that's the office
02:17um i'll just push this button here to get this star trekky door all of the mod cons yeah exactly and
02:24then um the kitchen area it's a very very very popular part of this truck mainly for caddies
02:31straight on double espresso straight to the range very nice um so we keep our snacks and stuff like that
02:36exactly um seating area either side so obviously what we wanted to try and do is when people
02:42people come on this trailer they're not actually like feel like they have to always gravitate
02:46towards coming into the workshop um they don't want a shaft in the eye or anything like that and
02:52we don't we obviously don't want to do that so yeah we've worked out we could probably get about 12
02:55people sitting down in the office and obviously in these areas as well where our previous truck would
03:00have about five or six people being able to sit somewhere i was gonna say is this quite a lot larger
03:06like square footage wise no so actually the trailer itself is not that much bigger okay obviously we're
03:11restricted for european driving laws yeah we can't go taller unless we want half a tour truck turning
03:16up in paris pretty tight in france yeah um so we can't go like that and we've gone like 100 mil wider
03:22each side oh wow that's really not that much at all but what we've been able to do with uh the new
03:27generation of these trailers is the floor doesn't come up as high yeah so we've been able to shallow
03:32up the drawers keep the maximum amount of space but actually make more of an open plan area nice if
03:38you've seen our other truck as well we used to have big storage units across the truck
03:42um where we would keep a lot of stuff it just takes up so much room and it's quite ugly so we just try
03:48to get rid of that and and store a lot of it in here or underneath in the pods i was gonna say it's
03:52all very like neat and tidy everything looks very nicely kind of tucked away and it still has that new
03:57car smell yeah um but it won't have that trust me a weekend it won't have that if it rains in belgium
04:03it won't be smelling this good so how many of you are typically come tournament week yeah on on deck
04:09so to speak so most weeks on tour would have one technician our technician alex is the best golf club
04:15builder in the world so we're very fortunate to have him um he he would predominantly be on this
04:20truck he's the face of the truck he uh the only thing he's not allowed to do which he'll agree with
04:24is he's not allowed to choose the music um because he listens to a lot of grime music and that's just
04:29not a vibe for me so i i have my own playlist that i'll put on but he controls it he's the face of
04:33the truck he gets on with everyone he's brilliant um so he'll predominantly be on here and then it's
04:37my job to get my track man and get out on the range and give him orders it's kind of like i'm the the
04:42ugly waitress and he's the head chef so i kind of place the orders with him and then i have to go and
04:48give it to the players so we'll just do a quick whiz around yeah yeah i'm here and then um so our old
04:53trailer we had a shaft rack like i just said right down the end of the trailer yeah that used to be 50
04:57inches coming out which took up so much space so the shaft rack behind us here is basically now what
05:04we've ended up with so we pull this up here and we get all of our iron shaft rack iron shaft rack so
05:12we get unbelievable support from these guys it's free marketing for them as well like we want to
05:18get tailor-made product into the best players hands they want their arrows we call them in in our heads so
05:24they give us great support there and then in here we keep all of our graphite stuff
05:29and then this is the money draw here where we have our team tailor-made players so we have tiger
05:34scotty rory there for example colin and tommy in the next draw along charlie hull and nelly quarter
05:39you know we might see these guys once or twice a week uh twice a year sorry um but we just like to
05:45make sure that we if they do need anything we're on hand and we have stock the last thing we want to
05:49do is have tiger come on and say hey can i have a new lob wedge and we turn around say sorry mate
05:54we haven't got your shop um which i don't think i'd call him mate but um i would i'd be like i'm so
06:00sorry let me find one mr woods yeah that's pretty much our shaft rack so again it looks neat and tidy
06:06looks part of the trailer yeah we didn't want people's eyes to come onto this truck and go hey
06:12that's where the shafts go we just wanted it to be nicely kept all branded quite nicely neat tidy
06:17everything has its place i'm liking the qi35 yeah neons as well yeah it is pretty cool but
06:23we've got so many of these strip leds in it to try and color match them all up is quite a hard time
06:27i can imagine but um yeah we get on with it well so the side that we're on here yeah would predominantly
06:32be alex's side of the truck so he will be here everything is built for speed on this trailer
06:38sometimes you have such a narrow window with a player and a practice around they're teeing off in
06:41half an hour we if if i place an order with alex for a driver he'd have it built in 25 minutes
06:46really yeah set ready to go that was going to be one of my next questions is how how long from
06:51yeah order hitting the deck yeah if it's if it's the only order on yeah 25 minutes and is that is
06:57that the same for every club is that or does some take a full set of irons i mean we we do build quite
07:02a few irons on the truck but a lot of that is done like sort of like in-house and we ship it to
07:07the players so they can get used to them and stuff but got it set of vines on the trailer looking at an
07:10hour a single golf club 25 minutes wow so it's quick turnaround time no we're like a very very
07:16slow formula one pit crew yeah yeah yeah but in the eyes of like golf club building we're fairly quick
07:22yeah if that makes nice so yeah we have everything down here i'll open up some of these drawers for
07:27you to see so we've got foam cutouts now lovely marketing team love us for this yeah i can imagine
07:32it looks so beautiful um you know once two or three of these heads are missing out of the trailer
07:36i mean it doesn't look as great but we have everything locked and loaded this is now ready
07:41for our first event so everything in these drawers we are ready to go yeah um we'll go
07:45to sudal which will be notoriously looking back on the last nine years of doing this job is is the
07:50first truck event and we've got a new trailer this is gonna be busier than we've ever had it before
07:55so people will be coming on they might not need golf clubs but they'll definitely be coming on
07:59chilling on here yeah but yeah this is all fully ready um so that we've got like fairway woods in
08:03here we've got drivers we have irons down by where you are here we've got some wedge heads in here
08:10also so every bounce every loft everything you can think of high toe mg4 all of the weights are in the
08:16wall here so everything is component so the way it would work order comes in alex grabs his shaft
08:22comes over to here grabs what he needs the head wires flips around grind cut bend everything 25 minutes
08:31how how many how many kind of when you're at full capacity how many clubs are you as a total depends
08:38how many hours al wants to work if alex wants to work a full day which is i mean he's so quick at
08:43building yeah um you know we could build anything from i guess 100 units a day really and how like
08:49when you were at full capacity in terms of like heads shafts how many how many clubs are there on the
08:54truck at any one time hundreds should we start counting yeah um well i've got about yeah 90 mg4
09:02i mean look we we tried to keep at least 12 of everything got it um drivers more so so like 20
09:07of each loft and driver um and then irons we keep six sets of each iron um because just you know you're
09:14never going to go through six sets a week right so the truck will come back for a restock but alex
09:19likes to keep you know 15 of each head 20 of each head just to make sure we're all good and is there like
09:23historically one event that is busier than any other kind of come out the open i mean i mean to
09:30be honest with you the first truck event because these guys like i mean i landed from johannesburg
09:33this morning at 5am so i've been away i've been away i've done seven of eight weeks so far on tour
09:39this year and i've not seen a tour truck yet so the players are the same right so we we do a lot of
09:43work with them in middle east we kind of just fit everything i check in three flight cases at 32 kilos
09:48yeah and then we just we just crack on as soon as the truck hits that first truck event everyone's on
09:53here for loft and lies re-grips new wedges everything you imagine we've got that 12
09:57players and we're doing all of that it's it's a busy week um but yeah i mean we just we just try
10:02to make sure that the truck is is at best it can be for the the initial launch of it on the on on the
10:08dp world tour um but the open believe it or not is actually quite a quiet event for us oh really um
10:13yeah it's all in the preparation yeah obviously we have our limited edition staff bags and stuff like
10:18that that is all done in house carl our coordinator does everything with that i mean he embroidering
10:23and yeah all sorts he's an absolute gem for us in that front um but it's just like when you get to
10:29the event the icon players are very very dialed in what they have so you might build up a low bounce
10:33wedge for links golf yeah or something like that or a two iron so they can take five foot out or whatever
10:38but other than that it's kind of like they're all set yeah they know what they need and and then you
10:42just work away so that's that story you told earlier about colin murakawa switching in
10:47is that is that quite a rare occurrence there yeah is it yeah it's a cool story right i mean
10:51fantastic i mean it's like colin hadn't played a lot of links golf yeah so it's he came over and
10:56he was getting his uh p730s that was just sticking in the ground and can't get him out you know he's
11:00used to playing in america with a different grass and yeah we're just like hey he needs more bounce
11:05on his irons let's just go mc keep the same loft and liars swing weights everything the same and it's
11:09just yeah what next thing you know you're an open champion next thing you know you know yeah that's that's
11:14what we're in the game for though right i mean a hundred percent you know the element of trust he
11:18trusted us to uh to come up with something that was great and yeah yeah we produced on that on that
11:23that front i mean we didn't actually hit any of the shots yeah still has to hit it yeah he's the god
11:27you do all the buildings and then there you go the f1 pit crew is a good yeah yeah good comparison
11:33slow f1 yeah yeah very so yeah we've got everything loaded in here yeah if we flip around to this middle
11:39counter now this is what i absolutely love about this trailer is the fact that i can be working on that side
11:44alex can be working on that side we're not interfering with anyone everything is here so
11:48putter loft and lie iron loft and life i've got a player and i'm just checking a lie i don't have to
11:52interfere with anyone just come on check away i go it's all very very well positioned i imagine a lot
11:57of thought went yeah yeah i mean this has been a three-year project for us yeah um you know you from
12:03sketching stuff on our old trailer with little bits of masking tape saying hey we could put this here
12:08to chalk drawings in our yard at the office oh really that detail yeah of course because we just
12:13wanted to make sure that everything flowed yeah and you know if it didn't flow then we could we
12:17could make the changes on scrap bits of paper i guess you don't want to constantly be knocking
12:20into each other and exactly and that's that that's the thing that we didn't want to have we didn't
12:24want it to feel very very tight and claustrophobic and everyone just felt like they were in each
12:28other's way we wanted everyone to have like a like a part to play do you have a favorite station is
12:33there one part is there one part of the build that you well i know alex really enjoy alex is our part of
12:38specialist in europe he loves putters so he will be on this like you would not believe um for me i
12:44like i'll show you in a minute but i really like the grinding wheel because obviously you can recreate
12:48grind you know you you don't become a club assembly become a natural builder when you're designing your
12:52own grind um i like this machine uh loft and lie for the irons um i also love this station over here
13:00so this is our dela cruz machine the golf instruments machine which gives me the true loft and lie of a
13:05driver so when the driver goes in i can edit the lie at the top then i put the pins on the face and
13:11it tells me the loft so if you've got a 10 and a half degree driver and you've set it to lower yeah
13:16it would tell me what the actual true loft is like that okay so important when i'm cherry picking heads
13:20for like rory or someone like that that likes to see it look a certain way but i need to get the loft
13:25exactly the same do quite a lot of players play a slightly different loft to what you see on the head
13:30is it yeah i mean we've got the fcts like uh the sleeves right so that's face changing technology
13:37so it also affects the loft but also how the golf club sits the lie angle of the golf club so
13:42when we have a a yearly product life cycle like we have obviously qi10 last year qi35 this year
13:48a great starting point is getting exactly the same loft for loft what is the new driver doing for a
13:52player versus what it did last year so we always use this machine to start start afresh and that they
13:58would be my favorite too and then you have the grinding wheel in a nice little cupboard in its
14:04own hole so we're just there we can just sort of shape away using this belt here recreate the grinds
14:10go from an america type grass to here's a lynx one yeah get it low spinning check-in whatever all of
14:17that cool stuff that is what i really like that gets the juices flowing almost i can imagine yeah
14:22safety goggles on for that bad boy safety goggles full ppe full ppe i'm not getting any
14:28sparks in my eyes and then that's pretty much our trailer to be honest everything you know that
14:35would be my side i have a select few of driver heads fairway heads over there so i can go ahead
14:38and build if alex is really busy i see you've got some grips over here as well and then i'll just
14:42show you here so we have just like the the player's shaft rack we also have the player's grip so
14:48oh wow you can imagine we've got like this is the tailor-made team tailor-made section here so we
14:52have like tiger and she's got scotty in the top so if i'm building something for tigers go straight
14:56over there gripping stations behind you there very cool and then this bit here with the fake grass a
15:03little bit of golf course vibe yeah this is our good to go section so caddy's sitting here let's say
15:08yeah he can just literally lean over and just grab them and we do have oh you've got some oh i see all
15:15of that yeah very nice so we just have everything ready to go golf balls golf balls they're in the
15:22clubbers ah okay let's have a look at some golf balls so this is our uh cubby holes if you like
15:29yeah for our players so you can go in and see like if we've got something for rory we'll just open up
15:35we've got rory mcroy's tp5x he's obviously just switching to tp5 so we'll just keep those in there
15:39as well just in case he ever wants to go back um so the players would come on grab this stuff normally
15:44take three dozen balls a week four gloves and three hats and obviously nike have these hats so
15:50we don't worry about those but then the player will come on go into the office and grab his out
15:54of his slot whatever which ones he wants for a week he might want a blue one for the week or a white one
15:58extra white or black or whatever so yeah that's pretty much it very very cool well thank you so
