00:00Right we are here at the Live Golf UK event at JCB Golf Club with Henrik Stenson and we are
00:06going
00:06to do a quick what's in the bag. So I've taken all the head covers off and we're going to
00:10start from
00:11the very top and I don't know whether this is going to be the world's most interesting what's
00:15in the bag or the world's most boring what's in the bag. Most boring. You've had the same stuff
00:19for so so long. Talk me through that for a start. You're just not a big changer, not a big
00:23experiment
00:24with gear? No I think once we've found stuff that we know works then I tend to hang on to
00:31it so
00:31with the with the three wood in particular right? We'll get to that. Yeah yeah okay sorry I'm not
00:35going to run away with it. We'll start from the top so yeah in the big stick we've got the
00:39Callaway
00:40Epic Max LS and yeah that's in your familiar Graffaloid Blue X. Now this is a shaft that was
00:45around when I was in my junior days so we're talking 20 plus years and this is just something you've
00:49always used and always been familiar with. Yeah yeah what once you know you kind of I like the
00:55feeling of it it's a stiff shaft and it's uh it's done me a lot of good so uh why
01:00change it?
01:01Absolutely and we've got a couple of contradictory settings here so we're down one in loft which is
01:05opening the face a little bit but we've got weight in the heel to encourage draw. Do you
01:10shape-wise with this is it pretty neutral? Are you looking at neutral? It's pretty neutral I think
01:15uh over the years I've I mean I've I haven't put a lot of curve on the on the golf
01:20ball in general I'm
01:21I'm very much hitting it straight uh with a possibly a slight draw most of the time so um
01:28yeah more all the clubs hopefully go straight. And grips wise you've got another we've got an older
01:33grip here as well so the goal is to go with the old shaft so you've got to coordinate all
01:38the age
01:38ranges have you yeah yeah okay beautiful and do you have any extra layers of tape it feels pretty
01:43much straight on this yeah no we we put half a one on the on the right hand so just
01:47to take the
01:48taper out a little bit yeah yeah exactly okay well now the first bit I've been really excited about
01:53the iconic three wood so what iteration of the three wood is this is this this is uh I mean
01:58I've
01:58gone through a couple of heads but this is the 2009 Diablo Octane uh I think I got it tested
02:05out just
02:05before they would have been the first I guess race to Dubai final in 09 down in Dubai and came
02:12in
02:12the bag and has been in the bag uh most of the week since. And do you still lean on
02:17this an awful
02:18lot off the tee? Yeah I mean some courses we definitely have more drivers than um than three
02:24woods but um yeah I mean it's a trusty trusty club um if you're standing there on the 72nd holes
02:30and you
02:31need a fairway finder that has been in general the one that we go to yeah. Are you a teeing
02:36up low guy or
02:36do you knock up a bit of turf? What do you do? A bit of both depends on depending on
02:40the shot yeah
02:41depends on but uh I think I've hit hit it off the deck more than most. Okay I bet you
02:46have and do
02:47you know the specs on it in terms of length or do you let other people get on with that?
02:50Yeah it's um
02:50I'd say it's probably about half an inch longer yeah standard. As soon as I put it down yeah to
02:55me I
02:56was thinking 43 and a half 43 three quarters maybe yeah yeah okay so then blending away from that iconic
03:00number again we've got another very old what are you calling this forward what do you call it? Yeah it's
03:05a forward yeah so
03:06Callaway X-Hot 17 degrees the X-Hot Pro same shaft throughout again the Grafaloid Blue Tour X there
03:13so assuming this is just I mean we've got a lovely wear mark here you must be proud of that
03:16one. Yeah
03:17we've hit a couple in the center I guess. Yeah every now and then it looks like you've got a
03:20few there
03:20uh interviewing Ian this morning with his what's in the bag um he's artificially done his wear marks he's
03:26he's sharpied out the bits around it to create a centered strike so that's something you might want to
03:31bring up with him. Who is it trying to fool himself or the people watching? Well yeah this is
03:36it remains to be seen so I guess from a yardage point of view this just fills in the right
03:40gap
03:40for you. Yeah I mean the three wood is strong right it's about 12 degrees so it's more of a
03:45two wood.
03:46So this is stated loft 13 yeah no it's not really bent I think that head is just a little
03:51bit stronger
03:52and then uh this one at 17 degrees so it's just kind of bridged the bridge the gaps and then
03:58down into
03:59the into the three iron really. So I'm looking in your bag here we're getting into now the super iconic
04:04irons that have been in your bag for ages the Callaway Legacy Blacks now how many sets of these
04:08have we had? I got a whole garage full of them they normally last a year year and a half
04:14these ones are
04:15very new though I just put these in a couple of months ago uh I got one more brand new
04:20set at home
04:21then what? And then we're retiring then we're done yeah as soon as the clubs are done with that yeah
04:26okay
04:26cool really interesting we've got two three irons here talk me through that yeah so uh coming fresh off the
04:31open this set doesn't come with the two iron so we took uh took a three iron head bent it
04:36down and
04:36lengthened it obviously so that that's my two iron that's in for probably about four or five tournaments
04:41a year then the forward goes out and this one this driving iron it's in the bag instead. Do we
04:46know
04:46what we're going in this week we driving on or forward or have you not seen the course yet? I
04:49haven't
04:50seen the course yet uh I think are we doing two iron or forward this week Lordy?
04:57Okay so two iron is out two iron gone yeah flat out completely gone on that your man Poulter told
05:04me
05:05to uh mention some stuff about the durability of your clubs he said heads tend to last quite a long
05:10time some of the shafts they don't last as long no they're pretty brittle these motor shafts yeah yeah
05:16yeah they uh they normally need some assistance though okay that's interesting to see and you'll say
05:21again we don't want us to go too far off track he asked to mention the expensive nature of the
05:25front
05:26panel of these golf bags yeah how much are they to replace and would you know anything about that at
05:30all uh they're not as uh as durable as a steel plates no okay understood we'll move on from that
05:38straight away yeah do that so we've got essentially not two iron now that's gone three iron down to
05:43pitch and wedge yeah in the legacy black so why have you stayed in these for so long again it's
05:47just
05:47I'm assuming a case of you found something you like what's yeah I really like the uh the look of
05:53them and and um I mean the big reason we came straight off the US Open at Marion uh that
05:59Justin won
06:00in 2013 and I was playing pretty good that week but the the irons I had I think it was
06:05the Racer Tours
06:06or something like that and I hit a number of flyers that cost me daily that that weekend uh we
06:12came to
06:13Munich and we asked the guys like what do we have that's not going to fly as much and they
06:17came up
06:18with these ones they got the the multi-groove so there's 19 grooves on the face of these yeah
06:22you know that's a more groove more spin less chance of flyer I'm guessing exactly that was the whole
06:26thing so I mean we're not really catching many flyers but they also uh you know they they go short
06:33rather the first cut in particular and and I'm a high spinner of the golf ball so there's always that
06:38give and take when we're playing into the wind you hit a bit hard and with a high spin and
06:44it's
06:44always a tendency to to stall a bit so it's uh but on the other end I've been known to
06:49be able to stop
06:50like my mid mid to long irons on on slightly firmer greens than a lot of the other players so
06:56it's
06:56it's always going to be a give and take somewhere so just balancing that trade off all the time okay
07:00that's brilliant they're into wedges so less wedges than some of the guys I've seen so we've got
07:04kind of a three wedge setup if we're including your pitching wedge yeah go 52 and 58 in the callaway
07:10jaws wedges here and I see on the 58 we've got I'm not going to say a messy sole but
07:15it's had some work
07:15done what specifically yeah we'll just take off a little bit here on the heel when when you need to
07:20lay it open and especially especially on firmer turfs then yeah it can it can bounce a little bit too
07:28much otherwise on the heel so we shave a little bit off that and in terms of I've tried at
07:34times to
07:36to take take out the three iron I strengthen the four iron a little bit and and try and work
07:42in four
07:42wedges but I always felt like I was probably because of the two wood forward it was a big gap
07:48down that end and that's always been a strong part of my game as well with a long iron so
07:52I felt like I exposed myself a bit too much there and not gained enough on that so
07:57I've always kind of bounced back to three wedges so if I would have had a fourth one that would
08:02have gone as well okay lovely and are you a guy who changes his wedges for the venue and the
08:07ground
08:07conditions or you just have your setup and you adapt from there because you play a lot of different
08:11grasses right yeah I tend to have the same ones okay I tried a little bit last week at true
08:16and have one
08:17one of the new callaway wedges that had less bounce on it and it was a bit sharper but then
08:23out of the
08:23bunker you feel like it's always a bit of a bit of give and take so yeah I tend to
08:31stick with the
08:31same ones okay brilliant and then finally into the putter I've always been intrigued by these grips you
08:37use on the part of the Garson grips yeah so what got you in that so for those who don't
08:41know we've
08:42got a ridge that sits all the way down the front of the grip here you sort of guide your
08:46your wrists
08:47into a more yeah you kind of end up on the outside of that reminder instead a little bit so
08:52it's
08:53yeah I just I tried them out my my putting coach Phil Kenyon he wanted my left hand to be
08:58a bit weaker and
08:59then I kind of matched up well with that grip and then I've tend to use this this model in
09:05different
09:05finishes for for quite some excuse me quite a long time uh over those 10 years so we've got the
09:10number
09:10seven here stroke lab big seven and some nice swedish custom colors there for you yeah yeah really nice
09:16same and there's a little bit on the way a bit of customization throughout the set there so that's
09:22great that's a really good look inside the back you just tell me ball wise what you play
09:24I'll play the uh the regular pro v1 the the 23 version okay great well thank you very much for
09:31your time really appreciate that and great luck this week thank you thanks
