00:00Patriots are going to be throwing that football.
00:01Coach, you said, all right, well, good luck,
00:04which is a perfect segue for why not.
00:06For, unfortunately, our last why not of this football season.
00:10We'll start on the New England side.
00:12What are you telling the Patriots, Coach?
00:14Why not protect Drake May,
00:16especially if you're going to throw the ball on first down.
00:18By the way, he's taken 15 sacks in the last three games.
00:22And the last time I checked, the Seattle defense is pretty good.
00:25So why not protect him?
00:26That would be my why not to the New England Patriots.
00:29They have no choice because if they do not protect Drake May,
00:32they're going to age the 23-year-old quarterback in a decade today
00:35because that defense, the dark side, is going to be after him.
00:38All right.
00:38What about on the other sideline?
00:40What message do you have to say?
00:41Oh, Seattle, I'm going to bring back bad memories.
00:43But why not?
00:44If you have the ball on the one-yard line, run the ball, please.
00:46Don't throw a pass.
00:48Just run.
00:48Don't do this.
00:49Run the ball.
00:50By the way, that still bothers me when I see that.
00:53But I get it.
00:54But wow.
00:55How about that?
00:56Just turn around and give it to the beast.
00:58Beast mode.
00:59And I love Coach Carroll there, but Coach, you've got to run the ball on one.
01:02Yeah, Kenneth Walker III, this iteration of beast mode.
01:05Coach, the game itself, what do you want to tell Super Bowl 60?
01:10Why not give us a thriller?
01:12We need it.
01:12Let's make a close Super Bowl.
01:14Come on.
01:14Let it go down to the last possession.
01:16I mean, why not?
01:17It's in my hometown right up the street where I live.
01:20Yeah, you're familiar with it.
01:21California.
01:21So why not give us a nice Super Bowl?
01:23It's going to be a nice day today.
01:25Beautiful weather.
01:27And I'm here in Brooklyn with you guys.
01:29I love being with you guys.
01:30But it's snow outside, by the way.
01:31We didn't want to bring that up.
01:33Negative degree temperature.
01:34Is Sam Darnold going to be turning things up?
01:36What are you saying to Darnold?
01:38Why not get the last laugh?
01:39Come on.
01:40And win a Super Bowl?
01:41Yeah.
01:41Now, that would really define his career.
01:44After all he's gone through, if anybody deserves it, this guy does.
01:48Perseverance at its best.
01:49Sam Darnold, why not go ahead and win a Super Bowl?
01:51Went through absolute heck the last couple of seasons.
01:54Everybody wrote him off.
01:55Seattle certainly didn't.
01:56Darnold looking for a 17th win this season, which would be the most by a quarterback in
02:00their first year with a new team.
02:02Coach Herm Edwards.
02:03Why not?
02:04Damian Woody.
02:05Herm Edwards with us.
02:07That Eamon Worry news is really good, right?
02:09He's a Swiss Army knife for those guys.
02:12Sam Darnold, Herm, is going into the biggest game of his career.
02:18How do you see this going in terms of, really for him, what the biggest key is?
02:24Well, that he has to stay in structure.
02:26I mean, this is a big game for him.
02:29Just think about his career, kind of where it's at right now.
02:32If he was to win this game, think about that.
02:35What a story.
02:36It would be a great story.
02:37And I just think he can't get out of character all of a sudden.
02:39He's playing in the Super Bowl.
02:40Just run the offense, Sam Darnold.
02:42That's what you do best.
02:43Complete the ball when you're supposed to complete it.
02:45Hand it off when you're supposed to hand it off.
02:46Just be Sam Darnold.
02:47Don't try to be anybody else.
02:49He knows that.
02:50But I think when you get in a game of this magnitude, and this young man has played in
02:54two of them.
02:54I actually played in one.
02:55I'm not a Super Bowl winner, but I actually won.
02:57I'm sorry that we didn't mention that.
02:59You gave him his.
03:00He's won two.
03:01But I was in one when he was in junior high school.
03:03And that's how old mine was.
03:05And you played in one.
03:05Yes.
03:06Thank you very much.
03:06I'm really sorry that I didn't give you your flowers.
03:07I'm just saying, Super Bowl XV, nobody was in college then.
03:11You guys were in high school when I played.
03:14It was in black and white, by the way.
03:16Would you like to continue with our second?
03:17No, you go right ahead.
03:19You go right ahead.
03:20Just saying.
03:21All right.
03:22Can we pivot to Drake May for a second?
03:25Former Patriot, by the way.
03:26Yes.
03:27Yeah.
03:27Two Super Bowl rings.
03:28Yes, exactly.
03:29Drake May, a little bit of concern because he's been sacked 15 times.
03:32And most of those have come really with the opponent's defense rushing for.
03:36Correct.
03:37How do you expect the Patriots to adjust to give him some more protection today?
03:41Yeah, I think Josh McDaniels will scheme up protection.
03:44And what I mean by that, he'll add tight ends to help the tackles out, chips by running back.
03:51He'll do things from a formational standpoint to really help out the protection.
03:55But ultimately, at the end of the day, Hannah, guys got to go out there.
03:58You get paid to do a job.
03:59You're going to have to go out there and block these guys because you can't have everybody in to block and not enough people for the routes and stuff.
04:08What about the rookie?
04:10Listen, Will Campbell, he's going to have his hands full.
04:12And we know at the end of the day, they always circle certain people.
04:16Yes.
04:16And they try to attack your perceived weaknesses.
04:19So, Will Campbell is going to play a big role in this game one way or the other.
04:23He's going to have to play better.
04:25He's going to have to.
04:25Than we have seen.
04:27What was the score in your Super Bowl, Herm?
04:29But it was Denver and Seattle.
04:31It was going to be three to two.
04:32But I was close.
04:34What was the score in Super Bowl 15?
04:36Oh, I don't even know the score.
04:38He doesn't even remember.
04:40In 2017.
04:41Okay.
04:42No, it was worse than that.
04:43We got beat bad.
04:44We lost in the first five minutes of the game.
04:46The Hawks and Patriots kicking off in just about nine hours.
04:50Let's go back on the road out to Santa Clara where our Sal Palantonio joins us again live.
04:56Sal, why is Mike Vrabel such a good fit for this Patriots team as head coach?
05:01You know, Jay, it's because he's such a great communicator.
05:05You got to remember he won three Super Bowls with Bill Belichick in New England.
05:10So, he knew how Bill Belichick communicated.
05:13And he put an extra layer of his personality on it.
05:17He's so sincere.
05:18He connects with each and every player.
05:20He knows his football team.
05:22I had a one-on-one interview with him.
05:24And I asked him a question that I think really gives a great answer.
05:28I want you to listen to this.
05:30You've been around football all your life.
05:32You've been around championship football as a professional.
05:35What do you like about this football team right now going into the Super Bowl?
05:39I believe they have a belief that somehow, some way, you know, they're going to find a way to win the football game.
05:45They've created an identity that I think they've tried to protect.
05:48And I enjoy being around them.
05:51They're fun to be around.
05:52And they don't take themselves too personally.
05:54They don't take me.
05:55I don't take myself too seriously.
05:57And we've been having a good time.
05:59You know, he's just a joy to be around.
06:03And he can tell his players feed off of that joy.
06:07And you knew on Super Bowl Sunday that I was going to have a newspaper for you guys.
06:13And not only am I having a newspaper, but I got the Boston Globe on Super Bowl Sunday.
06:18There is the front page.
06:20And it's all about playing the Seattle Seahawks old foe, new era.
06:25These two teams, Jay and Hannah, have played some great games.
06:29Just think about this.
06:30The last ten matchups between these two teams have come down to one score.
06:36And three of the last four games between the Seahawks and the Patriots ended on the one-yard line.
06:43These two teams know one another.
06:45They are so competitive against one another.
06:48It is unbelievable that we got the Boston Globe.
06:51And there it is.
06:51Tells the whole story.
06:53Yes, we do.
06:53And yes, it does.
06:54Sal, thank you so much.
06:55Going to check back with you a bit later for more on Mike Vrabel's final message to his team.
07:01For now, let's go back over the head.
07:02How did Sal get – he's in Santa Clara, California.
07:05Because he's Sal.
07:06How did he get a newspaper across the country?
07:10That's a commitment.
07:11That's a commitment to the job.
07:12Very committed.
07:13Right?
07:13Very much so.
07:14And talk about those games that ended on the one-yard line.
07:16As we know, that happened in the Super Bowl.
07:18And all those Seattle fans that we saw in Santa Clara, they're looking for some get back.
07:22You won a title with Mike Vrabel.
07:24What was it like as a teammate that has, you know, translated here to this success as a head coach?
07:30High football IQ.
07:31Dude, you just knew, just being around Mike Vrabel, that this dude was destined to be a coach.
07:36I think most importantly, relatability.
07:38This dude just knows how to relate to, not only as a teammate, but to his players.
07:44And so, you know, as a coach, there's not a situation that these players have gone through that Mike Vrabel hasn't gone through.
07:52And think about today, the whole routine, the pageantry of the Super Bowl.
07:56All those guys on the roster who has never experienced this, they got a head coach that they can lean on to help guide them through this whole process.
08:07And oh, by the way, like Mike Vrabel said, he doesn't take himself too serious.
08:10He likes having fun with his guys.
08:12Steve Wood makes a lot of great points, and I've had the honor of being a coach in the National Football League, an assistant coach as well as a head coach.
08:20And the thing you learn and you take away right away from the players, when you're asking them something, you've done it.
08:26And the players know you've done it.
08:28They know you've experienced it.
08:29You're not just asking them to do things that doesn't make sense.
08:32Right?
08:32The players look at you and go, well, Coach Plate, we get it.
08:35And they trust you.
08:37They trust you.
08:38And you have to watch out for this.
08:39Sometimes you ask yourself before you ask a player, and I used to do this all the time, if I was a player and I asked the coaches to do this, then I'd go, I wouldn't ask them to do that.
08:49And I don't ask the question.
08:50Right.
08:50Because you have that experience.
08:51So you've got to think like a couple steps.
08:53You've got to always think like the player.
08:54Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
08:56Now, the Super Bowl 36, you were two touchdown underdog, I believe, the Patriots.
09:03Yep.
09:03And the Patriots came back and won that game against the Rams.
09:06They're an underdog again today for the first time since then.
09:09What's the formula for them to get the upset?
09:12I think number one, Drake May, got to use his legs.
09:16Drake May, I need to see the regular season's Drake May, the guy that was running for the MVP.
09:20We need to see that guy right there.
09:22And then number two, I think the Seattle, I think the New England Patriots defense is going to shut down, try to shut down Kenneth Walker III and actually make Sam Donald beat them.
09:31Because as good as Sam Donald's played, as well as he played in the NFC Championship, remember, Sam Donald also led the league in turnovers at the quarterback position.
09:40Right.
09:40Sam Donald will throw you something out there.
09:42And so I'm sure Mike Vrabel is telling those guys, hey, let's shut down the run.
09:47This guy will throw us the ball, and we just got to capitalize on that.
09:50Interesting.
09:50No Charbonnet, right?
09:51Walker's going to carry the load for the most part.
09:54What do you think, Coach?
09:54That's a great point.
09:55And that has been a little bit of Sam Donald's DNA.
09:58Mm-hmm.
09:59Turnovers.
09:59And you watch the last game they played in.
10:02He fumbled a couple balls on the handoff.
10:04They got it back.
10:04They didn't turn the ball over.
10:06So that's kind of been his DNA.
10:08And until you solve it, it's still a part of what you do.
10:13This is the biggest game Sam Donald's ever played in.
10:16And it is against a team that I call them the pesky Patriots.
10:18They just find a way to win.
10:20I said it earlier in the season after about week five.
10:22I said, if you're watching football, you don't want to watch the Patriots.
10:24They're boring.
10:25All they do is win.
10:27They're not a fun watch on television.
10:28Because you watch them play, you go, okay.
10:30And they win another one.
10:31They keep winning.
10:32I know.
10:32They know how to win.
10:33They haven't looked their best in the playoffs.
10:35And they keep winning.
10:36Darnold had 14 interceptions in the regular season.
10:38He hasn't had any postseason.
10:40He hasn't had any in the playoffs.
10:43Don't be telling me he's due today.
10:45I'm not saying that.
10:46All right, D. Woody and her –
10:47We're right.
