00:00We talked about it at the top of the broadcast the main event featuring two
00:25fighters game with similar career paths both Medina and Curiel toiled at their
00:30craft here in Mexico before nailing the big opportunity that they received
00:37Curiel against Nanshinga a little over two years ago and for Medina it was
00:42against Yoshiki Takai this past September Medina is trying not to fall into the
00:48same fate that Curiel had where he immediately lost the title back to
00:52Nanshinga in a rematch Medina in the brown trunks trying to make a first
01:00successful title defense of the WBA Bantamweight title as we're underway
01:05and that fight with Curiel when Nanshinga lost the rematch he was actually up on
01:10the scorecards he was winning the fight just got caught it was an epic rematch at
01:18the beginning of 2024 between Curiel and Nanshinga but the questions surrounding
01:25Adrian Curiel have always been does he pack a punch yeah his career moment the
01:30punch of a lifetime happened but just five knockouts across his 26 wins and as he
01:36moves up multiple weight divisions he told us this week he wants to be the
01:40Mexican Crawford by going up three weight classes and and winning a title does he
01:45have enough punch to stand around at 118 pounds we're gonna find out and you can
01:51see by the physique Medina that he's the more stronger natural fighter in the
01:57division
02:00and Curiel fought here in May in that fight against Rubio he weighed in there at a
02:06career-high 120 pounds he's looked at as that stay busy fight but here this is his
02:12second career high in weight
02:16connects with a first-round combination
02:29this is Medina's third fight scheduled for 12 rounds obviously didn't need all 12
02:34last time out against a K now he's out to try and reward his hometown fans with a
02:42successful title defense
02:53nice body work right there by a good counter for Curiel for sure Medina keeping his
02:59defense tight tight
03:01tight compact
03:03throwing some nice counters though
03:11and lands on the body
03:13for Medina
03:19nice uppercut right there
03:20Mattin with the right side
03:23did Medina
03:24Chispa! Chispa! Chispa! Chispa! Chispa! Chispa!
03:30The crowd chanting Medina's nickname, Chispa.
03:34Spark in Spanish.
03:37Will he be able to provide another one tonight in his hometown
03:40after doing it across the Pacific Ocean back in the fall?
03:54Chispa! Chispa! Chispa!
03:59Right here Medina slipping a nice right hand cleaning it up with the hook.
04:05Nice work right there by Medina.
04:08And then sneaking in that left hook to the body.
04:10That right uppercut was a decoy shot to set up that left hook to the body.
04:14Smart stuff.
04:15There you see two multi-division world champions.
04:25Something that Adrian Curiel is trying to do here tonight.
04:27Marco Antonio Barrera, three-division world champ.
04:31Oscar Valdez, two-division champ in his own right.
04:34Both in the ring, in Medina's corner.
04:50Was...
04:50I'm gonna wrap a set up.
04:54Supporting the hometown fighter here in Guadalajara.
04:58And Marco Antonio Barrera, originally from Mexico City, he lives in Guadalajara now.
05:07And he kind of felt a little guilty not pulling for Curiel,
05:12but Indian being in the corner for Medina.
05:15And Barrera is one of my favorite all-time champions.
05:22Sharp left hook thrown by Medina.
05:25The biggest strength is the punching power.
05:30Both hands can deliver show-stopping shots.
05:40And I see that Medina's trying to set traps with big counter shots.
05:45It's just a little bit too tight with the counters.
05:48Just be a little more...
05:50There we go.
05:52Quality body punch.
05:53And came back with an uppercut.
05:55Still paying a lot of attention to the left side of Curiel.
06:01And Curiel working nicely with the left hand.
06:07Another thud...
06:09To the right side of the body of Adrian Curiel.
06:18Nice body shot.
06:19They're coming in bunches for Christian Medina.
06:33You know, Curiel doesn't have a big knockout ratio.
06:40And you can tell from the difference of the thud of shots from both fighters.
06:48Medina's punches just have a different sound to it.
06:55Left hook side swipes the body of Curiel.
06:57Yeah, and that's a good setup shot that Medina's doing.
06:59You know, he's throwing that decoy right uppercut
07:02just to set up that hook to the body.
07:11How do you adapt and make adjustments if you're Curiel when you're starting to now feel the ferocity of those punches from Medina?
07:20Well, you know, the thing that Curiel's not doing is
07:24he's playing the game of Medina by staying in the pocket and banging with him.
07:28He needs to jab.
07:30The only way that you're going to compete with Medina is you've got to offset him with the jab.
07:34Medina's showing off the power in round number two here against Adrian Curiel.
07:57Yeah, right here, Medina's setting up that left hook to the body with that short right uppercut.
08:02And Curiel's just diving in, getting hit with the shot.
08:06And he's getting hit with the shot to the liver because he's squared up.
08:11So he's making it easy for Medina to land that shot.
08:14See how he's squared up right there, exposing his rib, getting hit clean with that left hook.
08:24Don't give away so many rounds.
08:28You're absorbing the shots right now.
08:30And he's looking for that left hook, that lever shot, that lever shot.
08:42Now, Curiel's corner is right.
08:44Medina's looking for that left shot.
08:47He is certainly landing a ton of left shots, especially in that round two.
08:51See if it continues here in the third.
08:53You see, Curiel's starting off the round with a jab, but don't jab just to jab.
08:58You know, there has to be a setup behind that.
09:01See?
09:03Ooh, he felt that shot.
09:05Tried to wave it off.
09:08You're indicating more than you'd want to by doing that.
09:13You know, Curiel's style is as if he has a punch.
09:17Very aggressive, straightforward.
09:21I'll give you an example.
09:22Paulie Mononaggi's not known for his, wasn't known for his knockout power.
09:26So Paulie depended on his boxing, jab and move and angles.
09:32And that's what Curiel has to do.
09:36Medina petitioning.
09:38He was hit in the back of the head.
09:40Good sportsmanship from these two Mexicans.
09:42And like you said, Gabe, we saw it in the very beginning, but where's the jab gone for Curiel?
10:03Yeah.
10:05You can't play.
10:07Curiel cannot beat Medina at his game.
10:09You have to set traps.
10:12You have to jab.
10:14You have to make Medina dive in, be aggressive, catch him with counters.
10:20But it's difficult because Medina's super sharp, and he has a great tight defense.
10:26And that hook to the body keeps landing.
10:28Clean.
10:29So does the left hook to the body.
10:31Another one right there, landed by Medina.
10:33Good action.
10:35With just over a minute to go in round number three.
10:37Great, great body work by the champion.
10:47There is a crispness to the punches from the Bantamweight world champion that you could certainly see.
10:58But inside this room, absolutely here.
11:07Most of them have been thudding off the body of Adrian Curiel.
11:25Curiel with a jab to the body.
11:26Another quality round here for the champion.
11:46Christian Medina exerting his might, his toughness, and his power punching against the former light flyweight champ.
11:53Medina con adrenalina.
11:55Si.
11:55In condition line.
12:02Right here, Medina landing that good left hook to the body.
12:05And up top.
12:07That was borderline.
12:08So that's good inside work by Medina.
12:12Good left foot.
12:13Correo ate that shot, but he's feeling these shots of the body.
12:17He's breaking them down.
12:18The champion is breaking Correo down with these body shots.
12:29You need to let your hands go more.
12:33And get your hands up when you go in there as well.
12:37And look for the uppercut.
12:42Legendary Mexican trainer Rafael Guzman in the corner of Christian Medina.
12:47Game plan's worked so far.
12:50As he continues to try to just break down Correo from the basement up.
13:00Medina looking for his sixth consecutive win and a successful first title defense.
13:07And a right hand sneaks in over the guard of Medina.
13:20That was a nice shot.
13:21That was a good shot by Correo.
13:23The relentless pressure, the calling card for Adrian Correo.
13:33He will come forward with that high guard.
13:34Throw his shots.
13:35As we saw right there, he has that ability to time up the right hand and land the effective blow.
13:48But again, despite these being the lower weight classes, is it too much of a climb going from 105, 108 to 118?
14:01You know, I think this is a better look right now for Cordiere rather than applying pressure.
14:16He's moving around.
14:17He's jabbing.
14:18He's throwing counters.
14:19And he's slipping shots.
14:22You know, make Medina engage and see if he can counter in between.
14:35Just got out of the way of a big overhand left attempt for Medina.
14:38The champion keeps ripping that hook to the body.
14:45Great shot to slow Cordiere down.
14:53See Medina watching the hips of Carreo as he comes in as they exchange in the corner.
15:04It's funny because Cordiere does fight like he's a puncher.
15:08And it's, you know, he has to depend more on his boxing abilities and his jab.
15:17I think Carreo's showing good movement here around four.
15:34A better round for Carreo, but not exactly one that he won either.
15:51Yeah, it was an exciting round.
15:53But yeah, you know, he's just diving in with big shots.
15:57If we start to let our hands go with speed, we won't be able to respond.
16:04So we have to respond.
16:05Yes, yes, the bar.
16:07Yes.
16:08Yes, the bar is.
16:09Good time.
16:10He will be able to respond.
16:13Yes, yes.
16:14Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
16:18You can move on.
16:27Yes, yes, yes, yes.
16:28Yes, yes, yes.
16:31It's round number five, and it's been all Christian Medina.
16:52Chispa, the 118-pound titleist in full control, and showing off now with a series of lefts,
17:01then some rights to open up round five here against Curio.
17:22Both fighters, showing respect for one another.
17:29There will be no showmanship in this ring for however long this main event lasts.
17:36These two respectful Mexican champions, certainly of one another.
17:52Curio, perhaps getting a piece of Medina with these punches, but certainly not all of them.
18:09Right-hand counter with the uppercut by Medina.
18:13You know, for the end, he landed some good shots in that exchange.
18:18You know, I don't like to see Medina in that corner.
18:21He was squared up.
18:22He got hit with some few shots.
18:27Curio told us, I mean, he flat-out believes he's a better boxer than Medina.
18:34And far superior technically, but again, you go back to the size difference,
18:41and we understand when the opportunity arises to take it,
18:46but you can't just discount the factor of the size.
18:49Yeah.
18:49And, you know, Curio's not boxing.
18:53He's more fighting like a slugger.
18:57So, you know, it's easy for Medina to brace,
19:01even though he got hit clean right now with a shot.
19:03Curio's sneaking into the left hand on the clinch.
19:18Final 30 seconds of round five.
19:20Curio's finding a target with that left hook.
19:28Good guard for Medina downstairs.
19:30Curio might have nicked him upstairs, though.
19:33And this round might have gone to Curio.
19:35There's a clean left hand from the former elect flyweight champion.
19:38And he's doing a better job of guarding that left hand downstairs,
19:46protecting the liver.
19:52Curio finding a formula to look much better in round number five.
20:00That's it.
20:01We're coming back into it now.
20:02How are you feeling?
20:03Yeah, I don't want you to get hit.
20:07Yeah, you're absorbing a great deal of pressure.
20:11And you're also finding the angles there.
20:15We're going to change.
20:17Okay, we're going to start to gradually come into this fight now.
20:22Okay, I'm going to send you out.
20:23We're going to send him out to throw hooks, hooks, hooks.
20:25I want to make sure that you keep working hard to work out against this guy.
20:33Give me the gun shield.
20:36Before turning pro, working his way up as an amateur,
20:51Adrian Curiel absolutely idolized Canelo Alvarez as a young boxer.
20:56Here he is in Canelo's hometown, Guadalajara, Jalisco,
21:01trying to find another moment of glory
21:04and become a two-division world champion.
21:08So far, the current champion, Christian Medina,
21:11has stood firmly in his way.
21:13Sneaky left hand downstairs thrown by Curiel.
21:40You know, it was on the belt line.
22:06I don't want to think it was a low blow.
22:08It's a belt line shot.
22:09That backed up Curiel.
22:14How effective was it?
22:21See, Medina, he throws one shot at a time,
22:24but it's really trap shots.
22:26You know, he kind of, like, lures you to sleep with a hook,
22:30with a hook, you know, throw a jab,
22:32and then he'll set you up with that body shot.
22:34The whole time, he's looking for the left hook to the body,
22:36and he's setting it up with decoy shots up top.
22:45See, everything here is just a setup.
22:48He's setting up a trap.
22:49He's looking for a shot right now.
22:50And nothing truly thrown in conviction.
22:52Yeah, and then right there, he steps into that one-two.
22:57So, the rhythm that Curiel has is,
23:01Curiel is everything's coming hard.
23:03So even though, even though shots are landing,
23:05Medina could race for the shots,
23:07because he sees it coming.
23:08Medina's a little more sneaky with his shots.
23:13Good right-hand counter from Curiel.
23:24And now Medina working underneath it on the inside.
23:30Came through the guard of Curiel.
23:39Medina's looked like he's made some nice adjustments
23:41from round five.
23:43Which is a round, you could argue,
23:46that did go to Curiel.
23:48Good round.
23:49But Medina's still in control.
24:04That's good.
24:06There we go.
24:07Now he's starting to connect with more shots.
24:10Straight one-two.
24:13Waist movement.
24:15Unbox a little bit more, too.
24:17And let's go with a straight right hand
24:20and then look at the shot to the body.
24:22And then look at the upper guard.
24:24Now three shots there,
24:26that's what you can get to connect with.
24:28And then jump.
24:34Arm side on.
24:35And then hit him to the body.
24:36Well, we're past the halfway point
24:47in our main event for the WBO Bantamweight title.
24:52And so far, the current champion,
24:54Christian Chispa, Medina,
24:55in front of his hometown,
24:57seemingly in full control over Adrian Curiel,
25:00the former light flyweight champion.
25:08Along with Gabe Rosado and Sofia Gutierrez,
25:11I'm Justin Shackle here from Guadalajara.
25:13It's been exciting,
25:14as are all these Mexican shows.
25:17They certainly packed the punch.
25:18They packed the excitement.
25:19And this has been no different,
25:22especially early on.
25:23Medina found the home early
25:25with some left hooks
25:27to the body of Curiel.
25:31It's a nice, sneaky right uppercut
25:33by Medina.
25:34Quality combo.
25:55That's capped off
25:56with a left hook upstairs
25:57by Medina.
25:58Under quality left hook,
26:26and he scrapes Curiel
26:27with a left uppercut
26:28comes back in
26:29with an uppercut as well.
26:31Despite being a world champion,
26:33Christian Medina,
26:35his resume,
26:36pass taken down
26:37to Kay in September,
26:38isn't all that deep.
26:40Obviously not as established
26:42as some other champions
26:45at 118 pounds.
26:50No matter what you're seeing
26:51from Curiel here,
26:52he is a former champion,
26:54albeit at a lighter weight class.
26:57Another uppercut.
27:07Sneaking through the guards,
27:09Christian Medina.
27:10Curiel trying to stay busy
27:12with the champ on the ropes.
27:13Cordier's just, you know,
27:17fighting head forward
27:18and, you know,
27:21coming in off balance,
27:22trying to throw big shots,
27:23so he's getting hit
27:24with some counter shots.
27:25And it's been the M.O.
27:28for Adrian Curiel
27:29for much of his career.
27:31It leaves him susceptible
27:32for those counters.
27:33And we saw that
27:36in the rematch
27:37against Nank Shinga.
27:38He was overwhelmed
27:39late in that fight.
27:39He just might be a little
27:48overwhelmed at 118 pounds.
27:49Yeah.
28:06No, I'm fighting it.
28:09Don't train with him.
28:09Yeah, you're doing well,
28:14but we want to see you
28:14a little bit better in there.
28:21Don't stay in there too much.
28:31Do it for your dad.
28:32You need more combinations.
28:35Don't stay on the ropes.
28:36When you can't hit him
28:40to the body low.
28:53Well, you heard
28:53Kieran Simpson
28:54translate it in the corner.
28:56There was a
28:57slight moment of just,
29:00hey, go get him there, fella.
29:02From Medina's trainer
29:04to talk about
29:04doing it for your dad.
29:05Medina has long said
29:07it was his father
29:08who had a dream
29:10of becoming a boxer.
29:11He never had the chance
29:12to pursue it professionally.
29:13So being a world champ here
29:15became a dream
29:17that Christian carried with him
29:18as he eats a big right hand
29:19from Curiel
29:20since he was a kid.
29:23Maybe that woke up.
29:24Medina.
29:24Knocked out.
29:25Oh, no.
29:25Oh.
29:27No key size.
29:28No.
29:29No.
29:29No.
29:29No.
29:30No.
29:30No.
29:31No.
29:31No.
29:31No.
29:32No.
29:32No.
29:33No.
29:34The corner of...
29:35The corner of Medina,
29:38they let him know
29:39that, you know,
29:39you're winning the round
29:40but you're just not
29:41winning the decisive key.
29:42That right hand,
29:53a good example
29:54of Curiel's ability
29:55to time
29:56the punch,
29:58specifically the right hand.
30:02That's one of the strengths
30:04of the former champ.
30:05And as aesthetically pleasing
30:10as that punch looked,
30:11I mean,
30:11Medina ate it
30:12no problem.
30:13So if that's the best
30:15he can offer,
30:16what type of strategy
30:19does Curiel need to employ
30:22over these last four rounds
30:24or so
30:24to have a chance
30:26at coming back
30:26in this fight?
30:27Medina tapping the body
30:40with that left hook.
30:43That was the weapon
30:44early on
30:44in this battle
30:46for Medina.
30:48Been laying low.
30:53You wonder, Gabe,
30:54talk about Medina setting traps.
30:55Could he be setting
30:56multi-round traps
30:58with that left hook
30:59at this point?
31:00Yeah.
31:01That's money in the bank
31:02slowing Gordia down
31:03for the later rounds.
31:05He's biding his time
31:07for one of those
31:09explosive left hooks
31:10to the body.
31:17Final 30 seconds
31:18of the eighth round.
31:21Curiel eats a left hook.
31:25for the left hook
31:35at the top of the head
31:36thrown by Christian Medina.
31:41Chisma
31:42looking chiseled.
31:44Sneaks out of the way
31:45of a left hand
31:46from Curiel
31:46as we are group eight
31:48in our main event.
31:49персонаж
32:06right here.
32:07Medina.
32:07Popping that jab.
32:08Good work right there
32:09for Curiel.
32:10Setting up
32:11that overhand right
32:12landing flush.
32:14Medina ate that shot,
32:14Make sure you throw the overhand right to the left hand.
32:21You can do this.
32:24Try like that.
32:27You do that, I know you can.
32:30Yeah, make sure you face him third.
32:33Yeah, touch him, touch him, make him miss, and then hurt him.
32:37It's been easier said than done for Adrian Curiel.
32:51Beginning of round nine, these two exchanging blows right in the middle of the ring here in Guadalajara
32:56as Medina eats another left hook from Curiel.
32:59And I think this is exactly what Medina should do, you know, impose his size and his punching power
33:05and overwhelm Curiel with these shots.
33:25Here's that left hook, finding the target on the body.
33:30And Medina looks like he's picking up the power shots here against Curiel in the ninth.
33:38Those close range uppercuts have been a weapon throughout the middle rounds,
33:42but there's been a little more oof on these punches from Medina gave,
33:46and he snapped back ahead of Curiel.
33:48Great combination right there by Medina, landing some sharp uppercuts,
33:58and then finishing with that left hook to the body.
34:00Curiel trying to answer back with a left-right combo to the body as well.
34:06He's taking some big shots.
34:16Medina just walking down the former light flyaway champion here in round nine.
34:20You can see Medina, it almost appears just the way Curiel is hunched over Medina's body frame.
34:36He is towering over Curiel in the ninth round,
34:40perhaps illustrating the disparity here at the bantamweight level.
34:46Yeah, he's really wearing Gordiet down with these big shots of the body.
34:50You know, the head shots are great,
34:52but the body work is what does the damage.
34:56Adrian Curiel has been stopped one time earlier in his career.
35:14Obviously that was against Savante Nanshinga.
35:19And for Curiel, he's trying to avoid a third loss over his last five bouts.
35:25Curiel continues to come at Medina despite the champion really putting his accuracy together in round number nine.
35:45Give me water. There is no tomorrow.
36:01How are you feeling? Good, good, good.
36:05There's a lovely round now.
36:07Take it. Come on. Bit by bit.
36:10Right here, Medina landing a nice short right uppercut,
36:17following up with another one,
36:19and just throwing some nice pinpoint accurate shots,
36:23and never forgetting the body.
36:25Always finishing to the body with that big left hook.
36:28And Gordiet took a beating in that final seconds of that round.
36:33Walking his man down, landing big right hands up top.
36:38Well, the formula to this point has been perfect for Christian Medina.
36:44Like you said, pay attention upstairs, but cap it off with damage to the body.
36:50Cariel trying to come out of the corner with a burst of speed as we begin round ten.
36:57Medina smothering him here with his own power shots.
37:12Medina knows an impressive performance and not just winning in his first title defense
37:19could lead to much bigger things at 118 pounds, potential unification bouts,
37:25maybe with a fellow countryman and Jose Salas, the current IBF champion,
37:29or even a bigger opportunity that doesn't involve a unification bout.
37:34And more so with the imminent climb to bantamweight for Jesse Bam Rodriguez
37:40as soon as in the second half of this year.
37:43That's the two minutes to go in round ten.
37:57And Gabe talking to some matrim people this week.
37:59They kind of framed this as an audition for these two fighters,
38:03potentially for that fight against Bam later on.
38:06For sure.
38:07And you know Medina is the one that's in control.
38:10So, you know, it'd be more likely if it keeps on at this pace with Medina and Bam in the future.
38:20Medina continues to attack the body of Cariel.
38:23The referee, Jose Rivera, telling him to keep his hands up close to the belt line.
38:28But they continue to have some effect against Cariel.
38:33Another wildy left hand to the body.
38:48Medina's just, I mean, Cariel is just falling in.
38:51I would like to see Medina cut an angle.
38:54All right, so we're seeing multiple signs of gamesmanship here from Cariel.
39:06One can only wonder if he's a little taxed right now.
39:09Yeah, he is.
39:10Buying some time.
39:11He is, and you can tell that he is because he's leaning his weight on Medina.
39:17And what I would like Medina to do is cut an angle so that Cariel falls forward
39:22and then hit him with some shots to the body or up top.
39:26You know, force his weight to come forward.
39:30It's been a drawback of Cariel's career up until this point.
39:39Can Medina take advantage as we approach the championship rounds here in Guadalajara?
39:46So far, well on its way to a successful first title defense.
39:53Keep your hands up.
39:55That's because you're keeping your hands up.
40:04Keep them up.
40:05Keep them up.
40:09Jesper, this is the 11th.
40:11You need to go out nice and alive.
40:13Get on the inside and make sure you connect with those shots below.
40:16If he grabs onto you, make sure you carry on firing.
40:23Yeah, he's pulling my head out.
40:28If he does that, make sure you throw the uppercut.
40:31And make sure you throw more hooks as well.
40:34Round number 11 here in Guadalajara between the champion Christian Medina and the challenger Adrian Curiel.
40:56And so far, there have been some close rounds, but perhaps not close enough for Medina at this moment to be winning by a landslide.
41:06And, well, you don't want to see that.
41:11The knee coming up off the graph of the champ.
41:15We saw the good sportsmanship in the first half of the fight.
41:17Things get a little bit chippier in the latter half.
41:22Maybe something like that is fuel Medina here to close the show.
41:34They're both fighters getting a little dirty, rabbi-punching right now.
41:37And Jose Rivera demanding them to keep it clean.
41:41And a big punch landing by Medina.
41:44They go head-to-head here in the middle of the ring in round 11.
41:48Just the left hand to the body has just been the exclamation point for Medina this entire fight.
42:09No matter what he's throwing beforehand, it always seems to cap any type of flurry, any type of sequence.
42:16And a lot of them have been accurate.
42:19Nice shot right there by Curiel.
42:21Mid-section shot.
42:23You know, but Medina's allowing Curiel to lean on him.
42:28And just if he cuts the angle, you know, cut the angle,
42:35Curiel's weight falls forward, and then you catch him with some shots.
42:40Curiel lands a left hand upstairs.
42:49And another as well.
42:52One thing's for sure, Medina better tighten up that defense if him and the band fight ever happens.
43:03Because, you know, he's getting hit with that hook constantly.
43:09And, you know, Curiel doesn't have power, so...
43:12Medina's eating the shots, but, you know, a guy like Bam is a game changer.
43:18It's a different kind of punch.
43:19That's obviously a fighter who will change angles.
43:22Absolutely.
43:23And put himself in position to land the effective punch.
43:25That's needed.
43:28Three-punch combo for Medina and another counter from Curiel.
43:41The firepower just isn't there from Adrian Curiel to inflict enough damage.
43:48But he's hanging tough.
43:50Going toe-to-toe with Christian Medina in his backyard.
43:54The following shots.
43:55You can't just wait, to see what he's gonna do.
44:12It's the final round.
44:15The having a lot of shots together.
44:17Double hook, and double left hand.
44:21you have to make sure you aim that right on his cheekbone
44:28we're in the home straight now
44:30you need everything from you
44:46well late in 2023
44:48Adrian Curiel had
44:49what Darren Barker and Tony Bell you were phrasing the punch of a lifetime against Savantin on Shinga
44:55You're gonna have to dig into his bag of tricks to find a second punch of a lifetime
45:00Here around number 12 if he wants to you to throw the champ
45:19Medina starting off the 12th round effectively jabbing here against Curiel
45:24keeping him from coming completely inside
45:29see it for a moment and now they go forehead to forehead back up
45:34and I like this you know Medina's punching from a distance so he has more leverage on the shots
45:39left hook flip the chin of Curiel
45:49it's been a good showing for
46:04she's about Medina in front of his home crowd
46:07can he put the cherry on top record the stoppage
46:11now both fighters leaning in Medina drifting away from like you're talking about keeping Curiel at range he obviously has the reach to do so
46:28and when he keeps him at range he lands flush shots
46:34more leverage on the punches
46:36I think he gives himself a better opportunity
46:38to stop Gordian
46:40punch from the outside get more leverage on the shots
46:42left hand upstairs and a right hook sneaks behind the glove of Curiel and lands
46:52and there's that left hook to the body
46:55it's been such an effective weapon for Medina throughout this fight
46:59Curiel trying to throw a left hook of his own to the liver
47:04for the most part
47:10Jose Rivera letting these two figure it out as several punches go below the belt or right at the belt line
47:16a lot of low blows
47:18yeah
47:19a lot of low blows
47:21and it's funny because both fighters are not even complaining
47:31final 15 seconds here in round 12
47:35Chispa Medina
47:37rewarding the hometown crowd
47:40with what looks like a successful title defense of his WBO Bantamweight strap
47:47we'll get the final tally from the judges but Christian Medina ultra impressive
47:57against the former champ Adrian Curiel
48:01and is it enough to warrant a unification opportunity
48:06or perhaps like we were talking about a date with one of the pound for pound greats in the sport today

48:44terrific six months for Christian Medina having to take the opportunity of a
48:50lifetime to go overseas into Japan and dethrone Yashiki Takei in front of his
48:59home crowd come back with the belt and when he did there was a ceremony to honor
49:09Medina where he was presented his new belt he had Marco Antonio Barrera there
49:15also had Juan Manuel Marquez in attendance and it was Marquez you said
49:20winning the title is not the hardest part the real challenge is defending it
49:25against worthy contenders despite the weight jump Curiel proved himself to be a
49:31worthy adversary a relentless pressure fighter did not back down but Medina
49:38able to overpower the former light flight weight champion here tonight

51:4412 even.
51:45Yeah.
51:46Nevertheless, Christian Medina rightfully victorious here over Adrian Curiel,
51:53a successful title defense in his hometown.
51:56Doesn't get any sweeter than that.
51:57As you see, he's flanked by Oscar Valdez and Rafael Espinosa,
52:03current WBO featherweight champ.
52:07And Chispa acknowledging the crowd as he comes away.
52:15With a successful title defense.
52:18And now the big question is what awaits Christian Medina next?
52:23Is it a potential unification bout?
