00:00Well, you heard the crowd after Abraham Cordero's name was announced.
00:28He's nicknamed Bombi.
00:32In colloquial Spanish, Bombi can refer to something explosive,
00:37and that's what he's hoping to deliver in front of his hometown fans.
00:43Martinez going for a seventh straight win.
00:45Cordero in the black trunks looking for an eighth consecutive victory.
00:51Shout out to Cordero for that outfit, man.
00:53That's pretty impressive.
00:56I like it.
00:58Did you like the frills and the tassels?
01:01Yeah, man.
01:02That's my style.
01:04I like to come out your style.
01:07I think it's always cool when a guy shows his, you know, his personality through his outfit.
01:13Right away, these two get active at close range.
01:17Cordero, 31 years of age, Martinez turned 25 back in July.
01:28He's a super lightweight, known for his powerful left hand.
01:31Again, 11 knockouts coming in, those 16 wins for Eduardo Martinez in the white trunks,
01:40who's relishing the role of the B-side fighter.
01:44And Martinez has a nice stance, you know, and he's throwing a couple good jazz,
01:51but right there, Cordero caught him with that nice off-the-top left hand.
01:55Cordero seems to have a, you know, kind of a tough style, awkward, awkward movement.
02:09With that, probably watching him on film as well.
02:16I don't think it's far-fetched to maybe say Martinez, with this being 10 rounds,
02:20maybe you wait a little bit to kind of download a little bit of information to try and time him that way.
02:26Well, you know, Martinez is right there on his chest, so I don't think he's trying to wait, you know.
02:32I think he's trying to over-smother Cordero, and he's landing some really good shots.
02:37Some good counter-punches in the corner for Martinez.
02:40Yeah.
02:47One thing about those trunks that Cordero got is as the rounds go, and they get sweaty, they get heavy.
02:56He's got it on the ankles as well.
02:58That's why I was asking you.
02:59It's like added weight.
03:00It looks great.
03:01It looks fine.
03:02Oh, my God.
03:03You're going to pay a price.
03:04Yeah.
03:07Especially in a room like this, there's no AC.
03:10No, for sure.
03:13Good work by both guys, but, you know, I think Martinez is controlling the pace, you know,
03:18having Cordero with his back against the ropes.
03:21There's been two separate sequences in this opening round where Martinez is obviously standing right in front of Cordero,
03:27but he was willing to take some punches to time him up well.
03:30Yeah.
03:33Final 10 seconds in round number one.
03:36And, you know, Cordero has the longer reach, but Martinez is taking that away by smothering him and having his back on the ropes.
03:42That's what it's going to be like for the whole fight.
03:51You need to take a step to the side and look for those shots to the head.
03:58When you have the chance to work, make sure you work with those right hands and look for the left-hand counter from him.
04:17Yeah, you need to work out.
04:22Yeah, right here, Martinez is just going to work.
04:25Didn't need no time to warm up.
04:27He went right straight to it.
04:29And Cordero's trying to throw some counter shots.
04:31Nice left right there.
04:32But, you know, I think I like the work of Martinez applying pressure.
04:39You know, in a fight like this, and Cordero's corner made it clear to him, this is what it's going to be like the entire way.
04:46Where Cordero is the older and more experienced fighter, it feels like we are going to get an answer as to what his ceiling really is.
04:55Can he be more than just a domestic fighter?
04:59Martinez is probably going to bring that out of him.
05:01And Cordero already, you know, up against the ropes.
05:04The fight for him needs to be in the center of the ring.
05:07He has a longer reach, and you want to establish that jab and make Martinez have to work for it.
05:14But, you know, Cordero went right to the ropes, made it easy for Martinez to apply pressure and go to work.
05:37You know, it's good inside work by both guys.
05:45Both guys got some nice shots.
05:47That was a nice hook left hand by Martinez.
05:50Quality connect on the combo.
05:52And, you know, Cordero's getting hit with that shot because he's standing straight up.
05:56Chin is in the air, so he's exposed for that shot.
06:03Nothing really there for Cordero with that left hand.
06:06And Martinez protecting the body well.
06:19And for Martinez, like we talked about, he cannot afford another setback.
06:25The previous two losses were against regional fighters.
06:28It didn't have terrific records, one of which he was able to later avenge in a rematch.
06:32But still, a third setback would not serve him well.
06:39Well, you know, he's off to a good start.
06:42And it's only the second round.
06:45But it seems like his pressure is affecting Cordero and slowing him down.
06:50You know, Cordero really doesn't have any pop on those shots.
06:53You know, if this is the type of fight that both fighters are going to make it pan out to be,
07:08Martinez could possibly be in a position to really wear Cordero down for the middle and ladder half of this fight.
07:20Because Cordero, at least in the opening round in change, has looked a step slow.
07:28Three rounds of the books between Cordero and Martinez here in Guadalajara.
07:51Cordero, a Guadalajara native, as is that gentleman right there.
07:57The WBO Bantamweight champion Christian Medina has entered Coday Jalisco.
08:03The main event coming up later tonight as Medina and Adrian Curiel clash in the middle of the ring.
08:12The winner putting themselves in a terrific position for a potential unification fight at 118 pounds
08:22or even a potential opportunity with Jesse Bam Rodriguez later on this year.
08:29Start of round at number three between Martinez and Cordero.
08:53First two rounds have been delivered at close range like we've been talking about.
09:01Martinez looking like the more effective aggressor.
09:09Good jab to start off the round by Cordero.
09:11And this is the kind of pace that Cordero wants.
09:18The middle in the ring, stabbing that jab to the midsection and the top.
09:24You know, you don't want to have your back against the rope with your Cordero.
09:27That's when Martinez goes to work.
09:29Nice one, too, right there, by Cordero.
09:42That was nice to set up on the jab.
09:45And it's like you mentioned, he continues to live off the ropes in this third round.
09:49And as you can see, when he keeps the fight in the center of the ring, Martinez is, you know,
09:57he makes him think twice about throwing shots because Cordero has the quick counter shot with it left.
10:04You know, this is where you want to be, if you're Cordero.
10:08That center.
10:10So moving forward, a bigger question could be,
10:13can this positioning be sustained by Abraham Cordero?
10:16See, because the jab of Cordero stops Martinez at his, you know, on his tracks.
10:26So he can't apply that pressure.
10:29He closes the range.
10:30But right here, you can see Martinez fighting to get up in the inside
10:34because that's when he goes to work.
10:40You know, yep, and that's really smart right there by Cordero.
10:42So clinching, have the ref break it up, and then get right back to the center of the ring.
10:47Yep, look where you resume, right?
10:49Yep.
10:54The right hook from Eduardo Martinez.
10:58Trying to get a win over his most successful opponent to date.
11:03He's been a pro for just over six and a half years.
11:06You know, for Cordero to keep up this pace, it's not going to be easy.
11:21It's very difficult.
11:22It's a disciplined kind of fight of staying in the center of the ring
11:27and keeping that jab busy.
11:28You know, it's easy to get lazy and put your back against the rope
11:34and take some rest, but you want to win the fight, you've got to stay in the center.
11:42Nice jab right there by Cordero.
11:44For the most part, Cordero controlling that action
11:47and that positioning in the ring in round number three.
11:51That's your work.
11:57Well, former world champion, Lee Wood and Josh Warrington
12:00renew their heated rivalry in an all-British clash on February 21st
12:04here on the Zone.
12:12You need to keep going.
12:15You need to defend.
12:16You need to make sure you make him think, make him work.
12:41Don't just stand there.
12:41Come on, let's go.
13:00That was good instruction in the corner of Cordero.
13:03You know, having them box, keep your combinations going
13:08and when your back is against the rope, grab.
13:11You want to go for that clinch.
13:14Don't allow him, don't allow Martinez to work
13:16when your back's against the rope.
13:21And if you stay off the rope more often than not,
13:24it's not going to become excessive.
13:26For sure.
13:26It's an easy out.
13:28But like I said, you know, it's difficult
13:30because it's a fight where you have to stay disciplined
13:33and sharp to keep the fight in the center of the ring.
13:44And you can tell Martinez can't figure out Cordero from this range.
13:50It's a nice one, too, right there by Martinez.
13:52Figured him out with a straight left moment to go.
13:54And another reason why Cordero's so...
14:02He's able to be successful in that outside range
14:04is because of the footwork.
14:07Martinez, look at his feet.
14:09They're wide open as he has Cordero against the rope.
14:12There's no balance, no...
14:14No foundation underneath him.
14:16So when he's in the center of the ring,
14:19Cordero is a step faster than him.
14:21Cordero is doing some crafty better and stuff,
14:33throwing as he's clinching,
14:36letting that free hand go.
14:40The gamesmanship bag is deep for Abraham Cordero.
14:45He respected.
14:48Again, 31 years of age.
14:50He's had 132 rounds pro experience.
14:57Learned boxing at the Guzman Gym with Rafa Guzman,
15:01who, among other accomplishments,
15:04has managed the Jalisco State Amateur Boxing Selection.
15:08He leads the team for Christian Medina,
15:10who we're going to see in the main event later.
15:12And he also trained a young Calo Alvarez.
15:14You know, Cordero was doing some nice stuff against the rope, too,
15:18because he's not allowing Martinez.
15:20It just worked when he's on the rope right there.
15:22See that?
15:23Throwing combinations off the rope.
15:25So he's catching the rhythm, doubling up the hook.
15:28Left hook lands for Martinez moments ago
15:30as he has Cordero now lapsed on the ropes
15:33with less than 30 seconds to go in round four.
15:41Martinez is where he wants to be,
15:42but he's not letting his hands go.
15:44Quality over the top left hand from Martinez.
15:47And as these two fight for positioning,
15:52we're now seeing Martinez kind of just drop the shoulder
15:55as a way to lean in on Cordero
15:57and control the positioning.
15:59Sure.
15:59You need to faint and then you need to start connecting below.
16:29Be calm, go in there.
16:33Pick your shots.
16:38Let's go for it.
16:39Come on.
16:44Get him out of there.
16:45Come on.
16:45Let's go.
16:46Eduardo Martinez receiving some instruction from his corner
17:00as he's looking to ace his first fight
17:02scheduled for 10 rounds.
17:05We are at the midpoint of this scheduled 10-rounder
17:09between Martinez and Cordero.
17:10Cordero in the black trunks, Martinez in the white.
17:12It's been a good one so far.
17:15And a match predicated on positioning.
17:18Cordero's trying to keep this fight in the middle of the ring
17:21while Martinez has been most effective
17:23with Cordero's backs against the ropes.
17:26You know, I thought Cordero would fade around this time,
17:31but it's like he caught a second wind.
17:34He's flowing and he's throwing some good shots.
17:36Like that, you know, that triple hook right there,
17:40you know, it's not fancy looking, but it's effective.
17:45Yeah, I agree with you.
17:46And in the earlier rounds when we sort of forecasted,
17:50oh, if this fight stays like this,
17:53Cordero is a candidate to wear down.
17:55That was before he kind of found what worked for him
17:57in the middle of the ring.
17:59So maybe that's where he had some second life in him.
18:02Close range right hand landing from Martinez.
18:07And a left uppercut as well coming through
18:10as Martinez is trying to pick up
18:13some of the pace in those throws in round number five.
18:17Missed a good opening right there.
18:19See, Martinez is being too picky now.
18:21He's in the inside.
18:22Before, he was just working when he would get in the inside.
18:25But now he's looking for that perfect shot.
18:27And as he's looking for the perfect shot,
18:29Cordero's working.
18:34See, Martinez looking for that shot,
18:36looking for that shot, but Cordero's jabbing.
18:38He's throwing that left.
18:40He's scoring points.
18:41It's a nice counter shot right there by Cordero,
18:57avoiding the big left, being crafty.
19:02Left hook to the body by Cordero.
19:04This is probably the best round we've seen from Cordero
19:07as it relates to when he is against the ropes.
19:11Yeah.
19:12And the only thing I would change is
19:13when he's on the ropes is he is standing too tall.
19:17So when he's getting hit with that straight left,
19:20you know, his head goes up in the air
19:21and it looks really dramatic.
19:23He should bend his knees with his back against the rope
19:27and not be so tall and square.
19:31But this is good work right now by Cordero.
19:33Cordero going for just his fifth win over an opponent
19:42with double-digit win totals on his record.
19:46Again, entering at 16-6-2.
19:49Left hand landing from Martinez
19:52as this round comes to a close in Guadalajara.
19:57You need to get him out of there.
20:11He starts slightly, but he's closing the round.
20:16He's winning rounds.
20:18You have to be really tight when it comes to the end of the game.
20:23You start, and in the middle, you have to work it out.
20:27You have to find a way to win the round.
20:29You have to find a way to win the round.
20:31He's actually clean.
20:32He's winning those points.
20:34Take a breath.
20:37Take another breath.
20:40Don't let him win the end of the round.
21:01Good instruction from Cordero's corner.
21:04Gabe, all too often we see it.
21:05Perception's reality.
21:06When you talk about judges and close fights,
21:09you do not want Eduardo Martinez
21:12to close out rounds in strong fashion.
21:16Yeah.
21:17Also, Cordero's corner letting him know
21:19you're getting hit with flush shots,
21:21and that's when he's on the rope and he's standing straight up.
21:24Like that one right there, that right hook.
21:29You know, it's a tough fight to score
21:31because Cordero's doing some nice, crafty stuff,
21:33but then Martinez is applying pressure.
21:36So it really depends on what the judge is like.
21:43You know, me personally, I like the craftiness of Cordero.
21:46I think, you know, he's being nice and sharp.
21:49I would just tighten up the defense.
21:53You know, don't give up big shots.
21:55Don't give up big shots.
21:59Also, don't appear as if you just took a big, hellacious shot.
22:03Yeah.
22:05That's easier said than done.
22:13Right hook.
22:15Just chipped the chin of Cordero
22:18as Eduardo Martinez puts together some connections here.
22:23Straight left hand from Martinez.
22:49Comes back with a right hook.
22:51Cordero counters.
22:51You know, I have to say, moments ago,
22:54we've kind of seen a little,
22:55a different dimension from Cordero in this round.
22:57Yeah.
22:58When it comes to fighting in the middle.
22:59Yep.
23:00And Martinez is landing that straight left over the top.
23:04Keep, you know, milk it.
23:06Keep throwing it
23:06because every time he throws the shot,
23:08it's landing clean.
23:09It's the biggest shot in the fight
23:11every time it lands.
23:15That right hand from Cordero has been lowered.
23:17There it is again.
23:20The left hook coming through.
23:23And again, if that's going to be exposed,
23:24it might just be a matter of time
23:26before Martinez sizes one up perfectly.
23:29As he lands another right in the corner.
23:32Beautiful left hook from Martinez.
23:33It's almost like Cordero doesn't throw punches.
23:37You know, his defense is rolling with the shoulders,
23:40but never have you seen him throw underneath.
23:42So, he's standing straight up.
23:44Oh, big two-punch combo by Cordero.
23:47Entering back at close range.
23:50You talk about finishing rounds strong.
23:52And the left hand flies in for Martinez.
23:57And this one's getting interesting.
24:00Both fighters with some highlights
24:04in that round here in Guadalajara
24:07as we move to the seventh.
24:08You always let him finish with the final shot.
24:16Give him water.
24:21You have to go in there with everything.
24:23End the round.
24:24You have to stay alive until the end.
24:32He's ending the round.
24:33He's closed on the round by landing shots.
24:35Make sure you get those hands up
24:38towards the end of the round.
24:40Back against the rope.
24:41And Martinez is landing that overhand left.
24:44And he's landing that shot clean.
24:46His Cordero doesn't throw underneath the shots.
24:48He stands straight tall.
24:50He got hit right there
24:51with a nice uppercut straight left.
24:54Buck Martinez for a second.
24:57He definitely did not see that uppercut
25:00from Abraham Cordero
25:02as we get going with round number seven.
25:05In a matchup
25:06that has seen
25:09contrasting styles.
25:11But because of that
25:13it's led to close rounds.
25:17Might be some sharper punching
25:19from Martinez
25:19but Cordero has definitely
25:21made this interesting.
25:23Martinez cannot miss the straight line.
25:25Coming in again.
25:27All day.
25:27Landing again.
25:28And it's still there.
25:33As Martinez
25:34just paws
25:35just does the fence paw
25:37out toward Cordero.
25:38It's still there.
25:39And you know
25:39to be honest with you Justin
25:40I'm thinking that
25:41the hunch
25:43in Cordero's back
25:45doesn't allow him to row
25:46shots.
25:48Honestly
25:48he doesn't row no shots.
25:50It's he's stiff
25:51and he stands
25:52and he's just straight up.
25:53And the only defense he has
25:55is when he's rowing
25:56with his shoulders
25:57but there you go
25:58straight left again.
25:59And if you're Martinez
26:00keep milking that shot
26:02because Cordero
26:02cannot get away from it.
26:08Martinez
26:09coming into this fight
26:10was known
26:11for that powerful left hand.
26:13and has done
26:17most of the damage.
26:18Five of his first six fights
26:20all ended in knockouts
26:21quickly became known
26:22for his power
26:23and his finishing abilities.
26:25Can he do it again here
26:26against
26:27someone who would be
26:29his most accomplished opponent
26:30as now he digs into the body
26:32with the right hand.
26:36Left hook
26:36scraped to the top
26:37with Cordero
26:38but you're right Gabe
26:39and we kind of saw it
26:40in the fight
26:41that Cordero had
26:42with Angel Fierro
26:43before the DQ.
26:45Cordero really carries
26:46a low guard
26:47and has that tendency
26:48to lean in
26:49with the head
26:50kind of presents
26:51that hump on his back
26:52as well.
26:53Doesn't protect his chin
26:54as we've evidently seen
26:55by those left hands
26:57flying in for Martinez.
26:58Too often
26:59I think it also
27:00kind of affects
27:01the offensive approach
27:03because
27:03too many times
27:04we're seeing these
27:05loopy attempts
27:06that lead to misses.
27:08Yeah.
27:08And right here
27:09the straight left
27:10is going to land.
27:11There it is again.
27:13Yeah.
27:15It's there for Martinez
27:16all day.
27:17Yeah.
27:17It's a really tough fight
27:31to score.
27:33They're being close rounds.
27:34A good fight
27:35on and off the ropes.
27:37It's been entertaining
27:38between these two Mexicans.
27:40less than 15 seconds
27:46to go
27:46in round number seven.
27:52Can Martinez
27:53continue to find a home
27:54with that left hand?
27:56That's a
27:57cross-faced chicken wing
27:58there
27:58from Abraham Cordero
28:00as that ends the round.
28:03right here.
28:12Cordero's
28:13stepping behind
28:14and Martinez
28:16walks in
28:16with a straight left
28:17but props to Cordero
28:18because he did throw
28:19a nice combination
28:20right there
28:20catching Martinez
28:22with some good shots
28:22and then finishing
28:23to the body.
28:25But that shot
28:26right there
28:26has been landed
28:27for Martinez
28:27all night
28:28that straight left.
28:32Good counter shots
28:33right here.
28:34Nice body work
28:34right there
28:35by Martinez.
28:38It's a tough
28:39close fight.
28:40Both guys
28:40are doing good stuff
28:41and you know
28:43the problem
28:44with Cordero
28:45is that he's
28:45allowing Martinez
28:46to close
28:47the end of the round.
28:49So whenever
28:49it's a close round
28:50it kind of leans
28:51a little bit
28:51towards Martinez
28:52because he finishes
28:53stronger.
28:55And that is the message
28:57that continues
28:57to be preached
28:58to Abraham Cordero.
29:02Pablo Diaz
29:03the referee
29:03trying to restore
29:05order before the start
29:06of round number eight.
29:07It has been a good one
29:08so far.
29:10Cordero in the black
29:10trunks
29:11Martinez in the white.
29:24Two Mexican fighters
29:25each with 16 wins.
29:27both have had
29:28their setbacks.
29:30Cordero a little bit
29:31more than Martinez
29:31though he is older
29:32by six years
29:33but for Martinez
29:34to get to where
29:35he wants to be
29:37and that is
29:38really a level
29:39past
29:40this domestic tier
29:41a win is badly needed.
29:43close range
29:53close range uppercut
29:54landing from Cordero
29:55he's had a couple
29:55of them in this fight.
30:02Not a good left hand
30:03coming in a bit
30:04sharper from Martinez
30:05you know Martinez
30:13is laying in some good
30:14straight lefts
30:15but I think now
30:16he needs to start
30:18putting money in the bank
30:19start touching that body.
30:21there's a big left hand
30:29again from Martinez
30:30a quality crack
30:33but they're coming
30:36as singular shots
30:37here Gabe
30:37and you're right
30:38perhaps
30:39a time to step
30:41on the gas
30:42invest in the body
30:44to pair up
30:45with that left hand.
30:46under a minute to go
31:02in round eight
31:03scheduled for ten
31:05between these two Mexicans
31:09you know we were
31:29talking about earlier
31:30in the fight
31:30how beneficial
31:33it was
31:36and continued
31:36to have been
31:37for Cordero
31:38to keep this fight
31:39off the ropes
31:40but we're seeing
31:41a little bit less
31:42of that
31:42in these later rounds.
31:45You know
31:45props to him
31:47in this round
31:49because he did
31:49keep the fight
31:50more in the center
31:51of the ring
31:52and you know
31:53he's much more
31:54successful
31:55every time
31:55he does that.
32:00End of round
32:01number eight
32:01Cordero has his hand
32:04raised in recognition
32:05of the hometown crowd
32:06but he has work
32:08to do if he wants
32:08to get his hand
32:09raised at the end
32:10of this fight
32:11and coming up
32:12there they are
32:13the current champion
32:15the former champion
32:16Christian Medina
32:17Adrian Curiel
32:18later on tonight
32:19in our main event
32:21for Medina's WBO
32:23118 pound title
32:26in his hometown
32:27of Guadalajara
32:29Jalisco
32:29an opportunity
32:31to make his first
32:32title defense
32:33in his hometown
32:34Medina and Curiel
32:36coming up
32:37later tonight
32:38here at
32:39Cone Jalisco
32:39you need to go into this
32:44we need to win this
32:45you need to do more
32:48you need to throw more
32:49shots
32:49he gave these
33:02are close rounds
33:02tough to score
33:04as well
33:04Cordero
33:07can't be of the
33:09mindset
33:09and I don't
33:10believe he is
33:11but some of the
33:11body language
33:12thinks that he
33:13yes he's doing
33:14enough
33:14to win this fight
33:15I'm not so sure
33:16about that
33:16no I think
33:17I think the fights
33:19depending on who
33:20is beautiful exchange
33:21in the middle of the ring
33:22oh yeah
33:23both guys
33:24beautiful shots
33:26nice uppercut
33:35right there
33:36by Cordero
33:36that was
33:36he set that up
33:38with the
33:38cross
33:40left
33:41nice shot
33:43it hit the guard
33:44of Martinez
33:45but like you said
33:46kind of baited him in
33:47came right back
33:48with the uppercut
33:49and here's what
33:51Cordero got to make
33:52a decision to say
33:53get off the rope
33:54take it back
33:55to the center
33:56you know Martinez
34:03is not
34:04a combination
34:05fighter
34:06you know he's
34:08when he's being
34:09successful is when
34:09he's landing that
34:10big left
34:11and he's picking
34:11shots at a time
34:12so that's why
34:14Cordero is
34:15a lot more effective
34:16in the center of the ring
34:17because he's throwing combos
34:19this is what Martinez wants to be
34:21see Martinez is looking for that
34:26one big shot
34:27nice right there
34:29that's a really good point
34:31we have one last element
34:34to his offensive game
34:35that could take him a lot further
34:38especially within Mexico
34:40but on the international level
34:41perhaps
34:42unless he's able to adapt
34:51over the next round
34:52and change
34:53it's going to have to be
34:55that left hand
34:55because we have not seen
34:57the body work that could go
34:59with such a power punch
35:00in that straight left
35:01and you know
35:03the reason why
35:04Martinez doesn't throw
35:05combinations
35:06and he's not
35:07successful when he does
35:09is because his feet
35:10he's not
35:12he's not
35:13he's not standing
35:15on a solid foundation
35:16when he's throwing combinations
35:17see his feet
35:18look at that
35:18he just switched
35:19from right
35:20and then he gets hit
35:21with an uppercut
35:22because he just switched
35:23and put himself
35:24in a
35:24in a bad position
35:26you know
35:31when you throw combinations
35:32your stance
35:33has to be
35:33solid
35:35Martinez still hunting
35:42for that big left hand
35:43Martinez is pressing
35:49but I like the work
35:50from Cordero in this round
35:51I'm with you
35:52and I'll tell you what
35:58this might have been
35:59the first round
36:00of this fight
36:01where it was Cordero
36:03who made the better impression
36:04near the end
36:05for sure
36:05yeah he did
36:06he closed the round good
36:07right here
36:16Martinez walking in
36:16with that straight left
36:17but good counter shot
36:19by Cordero
36:19catching him
36:20with that check hook
36:21straight left
36:22and then following up
36:25with that overhand left
36:26it was a good round
36:27for Cordero
36:27let's go
36:36we need to stop him
36:36it's the last round
36:37come on we need to get out of there
36:40you need to hit him
36:41hit him hard
36:42the last minute pep rally
36:48for Christian Medina
36:49it is locker
36:51it is locker right now
36:52I mean I see
36:54at least a three piece set
36:55as he gets warmed up
36:57ahead of his first title defense
36:59Martinez corner
37:01letting him know
37:03you need a knockout
37:04you need a knockout
37:07to win the fight
37:08that's how they feel
37:08and I like how Cordero
37:15starting the round
37:16pressing him
37:16these two fighters
37:22on expansive winning streaks
37:24Martinez
37:25going for a seventh straight win
37:27Cordero
37:28trying to capture
37:29an eighth consecutive victory
37:31it has been a close
37:35scoring battle
37:37so far
37:38a fight that has been
37:40all about positioning
37:42whether it be in the middle
37:44of the ring
37:45Martinez preferring it
37:47to be on the ropes
37:48catering to that big
37:49powerful left hand
37:50but Cordero
37:52has shown something here
37:54after really a sluggish
37:56first couple of rounds
37:57to get back into this fight
37:59and make this very close
38:00to score
38:00and you see that jab
38:02to the midsection
38:03by Cordero
38:04that's what allowed
38:05that straight left
38:06to land
38:06in these shots right here
38:08that's one thing
38:09I haven't gave Cordero
38:10enough credit for that
38:11jab to the body
38:13it's probably the best punch
38:15in the fight for Cordero
38:16that jab to the body
38:18sets up so many big shots
38:19up top
38:20and he needs to watch
38:21that straight left
38:22as he's getting flipped
38:23with some big shots
38:24oh big shot there
38:25for Martinez
38:26it was the left hand again
38:28comes back with the right
38:29hook upstairs
38:30as Cordero continues
38:31to be on the ropes
38:32final 90 seconds
38:34can we see more of that
38:36for Martinez
38:37will that be enough
38:38for him
38:38to come away decisively
38:41in the eyes of the judges
38:42he was told he needed
38:47a knockout
38:48whether his corner
38:50truly believes that
38:51or not
38:51just providing
38:54extra motivation
38:54only they know
38:56Martinez coming up
38:59swinging empty
39:00I think that's the first time
39:01I see a little roll
39:02a shot
39:03in the last final round
39:05gets hit flush
39:08with a cross left
39:10and you know
39:12he's doing some
39:12effective things
39:13in this round
39:14but he's giving up
39:15some big shots
39:16there's a big right hand
39:18from Cordero
39:19Martinez ate it well
39:21nice jab
39:23good left right there
39:27by Martinez
39:27that might have been
39:28the biggest shot
39:29there's a left counter
39:30from Cordero
39:31but that left hand
39:32from Martinez
39:32getting active
39:34in the final minute
39:36of this 10 round banger
39:38it's been close
39:41and it's been full of action
39:4310 seconds to go
39:49between Martinez
39:50and Cordero
39:51sweeping left hand
39:52by Martinez
39:53trying to time him up
39:55still going
39:56searching for that
39:587th consecutive win
39:59did he do enough
40:01well Cordero
40:02has his hands raised
40:03both fighters confident
40:04and this will
40:06obviously go to the
40:07judges scorecards
40:08and it will conclude
40:10an entertaining battle
40:11in Guadalajara
40:13man that was
40:18in the first half
40:20of the fight
40:20of the round
40:21Cordero was
40:22doing some good stuff
40:24but then Martinez
40:25closed that gap
40:26landed some
40:27big overhand left
40:28and kept Cordero
40:30in the corner
40:31of the ring
40:33for the last
40:3420 seconds of the round
40:35and did some
40:35really effective work
40:36landing big shots
40:42it could have been
40:43enough for Martinez
40:44to steal the round
40:45you know that was
40:52that was Martinez
40:54money shot
40:54the entire fight
40:56that overhand
40:57left
40:57landing
40:59all night
41:01well heavyweight prospect
41:09Moses Atama returns
41:11for the first time
41:11this year
41:12when he headlines
41:13a massive fight night
41:15on March 28th
41:16when he takes on
41:17the American
41:17Jermaine Franklin
41:19heavyweight action
41:21coming to you live
41:22onto zone
41:23March 28th
41:26now I don't think
41:31we could have
41:31forecasted
41:32this one
41:33being as entertaining
41:34as it was
41:34all the way
41:35through the finish
41:36the full 10 rounds
41:37based on what we saw
41:38for those first
41:38two rounds
41:39I don't think
41:40you could have
41:42predicted Cordero
41:42to have given
41:44the performance
41:44the way he did
41:45but credit to him
41:45I mean
41:46a couple
41:47multiple
41:48wins
41:50not just the second
41:51or third gear
41:51being reached
41:52fourth
41:52fifth
41:53he needed all of it
41:54and again
41:55this one's very
41:56close to score
41:57we'll see if the judges
41:58felt the same way
41:58yeah both fighters
41:59showed hard will
42:01and skill
42:02you know
42:03very crafty fight
42:04Cordero confident
42:15he did enough
42:16for win number 17
42:18in his hometown
42:19I think it's a toss up
42:22it can be a draw
42:24it can go either way
42:25it was a close fight
42:26we kept talking about
42:35Eduardo Martinez
42:36a bit younger
42:37just 25 years of age
42:39he's built up a 16-2 record
42:41it's shown knockout
42:41potential
42:42and cannot afford
42:44another setback
42:45and we will go to the
42:47judges scorecards
42:48as David Diamante
42:48makes this one official
