00:00Class is in session. The way our hair moves is a movement. See, we set the trends, but our texture
00:12is left out of the textbook. It demands protection. Heavy is the hand that detangles through this
00:20industry. Reaching for resources crucial to educate our community, help us care for our
00:30hair. So everybody in the seat and behind the chair are celebrated and seen. We got to
00:39thicken the curriculum and rewrite beauty school textbooks with texture.
00:50Representing L'Oreal, please welcome the VP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the
01:18Professional Products Division, Erica Roberson-Peters and Celebrity Hairstylist and Global Educator
01:25Tippi Shorter-Rank.
01:26Erica Roberson- Hello. Good evening, Essence Festival. My name is Erica Roberson-Peters and
01:35I have the pleasure of leading diversity, equity and inclusion for the Professional Products
01:39Division at L'Oreal North America. And I am so excited to be on the stage this evening
01:45with my good friend, Tippi Shorter-Rank, who is global educator and celebrity hairstylist
01:51to some of the biggest names in the industry, many who have been on this Essence stage over
01:56the years. Thanks so much, Erica. I'm also an advocate. And for the last three decades,
02:02I have been pushing for greater representation within the professional hair industry. And at
02:07L'Oreal, we are committed to creating beauty that moves the world. And for the Professional Products
02:13Division, that means driving inclusivity and the salon experience. Now, I want to ask you,
02:21how many of you have ever had difficulty in trying to find a stylist in your area? Right?
02:25Right. Raise your hands, I'm sure. And that's why we want to invite you this evening to join
02:31us in the Texture of Change movement. Now, what's really interesting is that 65% of us, of the U.S.,
02:39U.S. has a form of wave, curl, or coil. However, the beauty schools don't teach us how to work on our
02:46textures. That's crazy, right? So I want you to add your voice to that conversation. And you can do
02:53that by pulling out your phone right now. And if you've done this over the last two days,
02:57tell your neighbor to pull out their phone right now and text TEXTURE to 32519.
03:04Yes, that's right. And I want to challenge you all. Last night, we were able to triple our
03:11petition signups. So I want to keep that going with your help tonight. So it is Sunday, right? And as
03:18Tippi said, I need everyone to turn to your neighbor. Now say neighbor. Have you text TEXTURE to 32519?
03:28If you haven't, then go ahead and do it right now. Thank you so much, everyone. We really appreciate
03:34your support. Have a good evening and stay beautiful. Thank you.
