38:14Then I knew she'd had a one-to-one session with Luke that day and maybe whatever he'd said had, like, triggered her.
38:21It reminded her of her own betrayal. That's why she was drunk.
38:24So when she was asleep, I saw her notebook.
38:29I felt sick.
38:34Couldn't even process it.
38:37Couldn't even breathe.
38:39So I just pretended I didn't know.
38:42Stacey, you've been through a lot in the last couple of days.

39:45But it still doesn't explain why she was murdered three nights ago.

40:07He's based in Guadalupe. Specializes in hypnotherapy.
40:11Kira called him Friday afternoon, asking for advice.
40:15He offered to share their conversation as part of our investigation.
40:19On what?
40:21She said a client of hers, Margot Hartnell, had just opened up to her
40:25and was struggling with the memory of an event of her recent past.
40:28Because she had completely blocked it out.
40:30Which, apparently, is not uncommon for people dealing with traumatic experiences.
40:34And according to Mr. Campbell, it's a pretty unorthodox approach for Kira to resort to hypnotherapy so early on in the process.
40:41But she was convinced it was necessary.
40:44So this forgotten memory, do we know what it's to do with?
40:48The night their daughter was killed in a hit and run five years ago, Mrs. Hartnell does not remember a thing about it.
40:56But ever since, she's been growing this feeling of guilt, you know?
41:01Like, maybe she might have done something bad that night.
41:06Wait, you don't mean...
41:10All that was known was that it was a female driver.
41:14Well, Mrs. Hartnell wanted it all off the record.
41:17That's why there was nothing in her notes or recordings.

43:52She said Keira seemed distracted.

44:24I do. And I know how they managed to drown Keira Mayhew a hundred metres out of sea, without even stepping a foot in the water!

44:37For those wondering why Margot Hartnell isn't here with us, it's because she's currently with a hypnotherapist.

44:46Trying to recover a buried memory of what really happened five years ago.
44:51The night her daughter died.

44:56Because Margot's therapy sessions were meant to be conducted by Keira Mayhew.
45:02Until somebody tried to stop the truth from coming out.
45:05By murdering her.

45:24But now that I've got a better understanding of what's gone on, I believe you created a small window of opportunity in which to commit murder.
45:33But not a hundred metres out at sea. You drowned Keira Mayhew right outside your own bungalow.
45:39Because from the very start of this case, we've worked on the assumption that as Miss Mayhew's body was discovered 100 metres out at sea in a straight line from where she swam, that's where she was drowned.
45:53But what if actually, when Miss Mayhew went for her evening dip, she preferred to swim along the shore rather than out from it?
46:04That would mean she'd have to swim past your bungalow farther along the beach.
46:11And that would give you opportunity to commit murder.
46:14But when? I told you I was at dinner when it happened.
46:19Yeah, we have security camera footage that shows you leaving the dinner table to get your glasses at 18 minutes past seven.
46:28I was gone, what, a couple of minutes? Three minutes at the most.
46:32You're not seriously suggesting I was able to physically drown a fit and healthy woman in that time without getting soaked in water?
46:40Yeah. Sounds impossible, right?
46:42But I don't think Miss Mayhew was as fit and healthy as she might normally be.
46:46I believe you sedated her.
46:51We know that your wife uses sleeping pills.
46:55None of us been to bed.
46:56None of us took a sleeping pill.
46:58And we also know that you are the last person to have a one-to-one session with Miss Mayhew that day at 5pm.
47:05One-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacey Warbur, then Alistair Hartnell.
47:09And while there, we believe you spiked her drink when she wasn't looking.
47:20We didn't believe Kira was drugged because the finger marks on her neck suggested she was held down by force and drowned.
47:25We're awaiting the toxicology report and results from the glass Kira drank from.
47:31And I've no doubt we'll get confirmation that there were significant traces of sleeping pills in her system.
47:36And so, while Miss Mayhew was swimming, she suddenly felt drowsy and swam ashore.
47:45When you returned to your bungalow under the pretense of getting your glasses, you ran down to the beach where Miss Mayhew was lying unconscious on the sand.
47:55And then you did two things. First, you grabbed her neck and shoulders, making sure to leave bruises so it would look like someone had strangled her and forced her under the water.
48:10Before moving her into the sea for her to be carried away, making sure that she was face down so they're still unconscious, her lungs would fill with water.
48:20It took less than a minute. All you had to do now was hurry back to the dinner table and leave Kira to drown and let the sea do the rest of the work for you.
48:33We checked with a local oceanologist at the university and the current in this bay moves in a north westerly direction, which means it would have carried Miss Mayhew's body diagonally,
48:46taking her from your bungalow here to where her body was discovered here. And with her clothes being left on the beach here, we'd all assume she swam in a straight line.
49:00Now, you had no idea where the currents would take Kira's body. So, you had to test it first, didn't you?
49:07You went and found this. And you threw it into the sea to observe which route it took, which was conveniently in a north westerly direction, from your bungalow directly to where Kira began her nightly swim.
49:21Kira began her nightly swim. And that's when your plan finally came together. Kira's body was found still at sea, not long after she drowned. But this ball, left overnight, ended up washing up ashore. And that was your undoing.
49:36But, why would he do this to her? Because he didn't want Kira to help his wife remember. Well, remember what? What he did.
49:46I remember, Alistair. I remember all of it. All the horror of it. You rushing in and telling me someone had hurt her little girl.
50:08And I remember the ambulance. And the police. And the shock and the pain.
50:19And I remember you coming in. And holding me in tears shaking. Both of us heartbroken.
50:33And I remember in that moment. The smell of alcohol on your breath. And I remember coming back inside. And seeing you.
50:54I checked the original case file, Mr Hartnell. And the phone call to the police, in which the hit and run driver was described as female, came from an anonymous caller.
51:10That was you, wasn't it? Trying to direct suspicion away from yourself.
51:14I would have lost everything.
51:23Alistair Hartnell, I'm arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Kira Mayhew. You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something you later rely on in court.
