05:16your inspirational story how did you come up with this incredible line well I mean I started with my mom
05:24being a designer in Lagos Nigeria I didn't know fast forward to now I would be doing the same thing
05:30I was stuck at my banking job and knew that I wanted to do something different I've always loved
05:36fashion but you know how you don't know how to get to that next level yeah but I took that chance and
05:41I decided I was gonna start I did research and found that there weren't a lot of black owned brands
05:46doing this and I'm like why we love fashion there should be black owned luxury brands and I'm
05:52going to stop until we become a household name come on so I highlighted F&W style a few weeks ago on
06:02shop essence live and I have been using their bag the travel bag that tote bag is just so amazing and
06:10not only is the style so intentionally fabulous the quality right the quality is so incredible so why
06:18don't you tell us what you have for us today let's show up these bags yes like Noni was saying it's
06:23well-crafted colorful handbag at an affordable pricing so let's start with this this is our
06:30ruby belt bag yes thank you so that's our ruby belt bag people love that because you can wear it

07:47design how many people love to wear things and you love when people stop you like where did you get
07:53that bag it's so unique like we don't want to wear what does everybody else is wearing this is just so
07:59amazing look at that what else do you have for us okay so I had to do the Claire bags you know
08:06obviously we all have those ones that we have but this is a stylish Claire bag this goes with all your
08:12outfits when you're going to the Superdome where you're going to concerts you're going to festivals
08:18come on we got the Claire bag here for you and we have two different types we have this this is the
08:24crystal Claire bag and then we also have this right here I love that yes which is our violet vanity case
08:32how cute are these even the metal feet on the bottom for you wait talk about the metal feet on
08:39the bottom because we don't want to skirt this all these little intentional details for us to make our
08:44lives easier talk about the intention of that so the metal feet on the bottom is so we don't want our
08:49gunk and things getting on the bottom of our bag so we put that there so when you set it down you
08:55don't have to worry it's not getting dirty come on intentional design and I love this too because
09:01sometimes we have our huge bags and we can't find our lipstick we can't find things so this is
09:06actually will work really well as a tote inside your bag as well exactly and we have that today
09:12on our booth and also on our site so good and then finally finally I have to talk about this bag I told
09:20you guys earlier my mom had a design studio in Lagos Nigeria so this bag we have some bag inspired by
09:27Lagos Nigeria this is a damask fabric that they weave for us in Nigeria and we use it to make
09:34these bags so people would wear this kind of fabric to like weddings and special occasions but we feel
09:40like every day is a special occasion so we make them with the bags come on I absolutely love this and
09:48again we have that dose of happiness the pink on the inside don't we love it she is selling right here
09:55if you guys are here with us in the convention center she has a booth make sure that you guys

10:05do know this right yeah make sure you have your clear bag she's gonna hook you up not only is it

11:59love to hang it in our homes how amazing would it be to walk around and use cups with some original
12:07black art how amazing incredible so dominique why don't you tell us what's your background how did
12:14you get started with domo inc um domo inc kind of just came naturally i feel like since i was a little
12:19kid i always been drawing um i probably like my first instance of me ever drawing was when i was in
12:25preschool and i drew a portrait of this lady with long hair and my teacher told me it's amazing if i look
12:31back now it was probably a hot mess it was some lady would like fight like stick figure with some
12:36horrible hair but that inspired me to keep drawing and then once i moved into my first home i was
12:42trying to figure out ways how do i decorate my own home and i was going to stores and i'm like
12:49nothing looks like me if i do see it it felt very generic and i'm thinking back to myself i'm like
12:55why don't i just draw my own stuff like and decorate my bathroom decorate my living room decorate my
12:59bedroom and as i was decorating i'm using social media to share my house i'm excited and it started
13:07taking off where people were like i want that for my bathroom i want this for my living room and i'm
13:12like well i guess everybody else is having that same kind of problem too so i was like okay so i started
13:18selling art prints and then as as i kept as it kept blowing up i was like what about i make my artwork
13:24functional so i started selling like tote bags i started moving into puzzles because like you know
13:31people be at home but like you might want a puzzle that looks like you sitting on your table you want
13:36you might want to have a mug in your kitchen that looks like you represents your auntie your grandma
13:41your uncle anybody so good um but at the same time our prints are still my heart like art is always
13:47gonna be everything um and even even shirts as you see i'm matching she's representing
13:53so we're gonna get into piece by piece inspiration by behind each piece okay i love what you said in
14:00there about sharing your art even too i think there's a lesson in there how many of us are holding
14:05on to talents and we don't want anybody else to hear about it or see it because we don't want criticism
14:10and you see she was sharing her art and what she did in her home and now she's built a business that
14:14she is selling at essence festival of culture yes so that's pretty incredible so why don't we go
14:20through each product um we want to get these close-ups we want people to take in this so what
14:25do you want to show off first let's talk about the puzzles i love the puzzles came this is something i
14:30used to do all the time in my past time as a kid was through puzzles fun games um so i noticed that
14:36even then there was a lack of black culture black of black a lack representation of us in puzzles so i
14:43wanted to bring that in to domo ink and give you guys more variety as you could say this is so cool
14:49and these are really good intentional gifts right like how many times are we trying to oh what do i
14:55get for my boss what do i get for this person my rich auntie we got a couple of them these are really
15:01great intentional custom-made gifts for sure what else do you have for us i have tote bags love a tote bag
15:08so also i also nothing i noticed was a lack of black men in artwork you can go to the store you'll
15:13see a bunch of women artwork but you ever see men a lot of times when people go to these home decor
15:18stores it's usually targeted towards women so i wanted to show i wanted to be like hey if you have
15:23a man in your life you want to give him a tote bag that looks like him you can do so that's what i've
15:28always tried to do try to just represent everybody because the black experience is not monolithic so
15:34try to show everybody okay so good what else do you have for us today dom i'm going to show off
15:40the originals the artwork yes um so i'll say the thing about me as an artist as i'm an illustrator first
15:47so this was all done in marker originally wow and then i create art prints from it um and then with
15:54my background i have a i went to school for graph design so i've been able to do illustrations as well
15:59so this is all done digitally um so i just try to have a lot of versatility in what i'm doing because
16:05also too not everybody wants a picture of a woman that that might look like somebody in their house
16:11they might want something more abstract yeah i try to just have a lot of diversity in the artwork that
16:16i provide to you guys so reminder she is selling here at the convention center just imagine these
16:22hanging up on that empty wall you don't know what to do with it you want to do a little gallery wall
16:27in your house or at home these are really really incredible thank you so much and then you have
16:32one more thing for us and then i have the mug it's also about being functional because not everybody has
16:38room you might you might already have art on your wall you might or you might want to have photos on
16:41your wall so i wanted to give it to i wanted to have another option for you to have artwork somewhere

17:16here flying over i have my dad with me and to just hey dad in this space right to be in this space it
17:22just feels absolutely amazing and i and i know i wouldn't be here without new voices so i appreciate
