00:00It is Friday, it's 5.52pm and it is the end of the first week with my new clients.
00:11Alistair and Margot Hartnell.
00:14They say that coming here is the last roll of the dice for them.
00:17They had been on the cusp of getting a divorce.
00:20Walk forward. Turn right. Turn right!
00:23Turn left. No, no, wait. No, sorry. That's my...
00:27For God's sake, Alistair!
00:29Love has been replaced by hostility.
00:32You're useless at this! That's enough!
00:34Sorry, darling.
00:35All trust has gone.
00:36For sake!
00:37Sorry. Sorry!
00:38It's okay. It's okay.
00:39Compounded by the fact that they seem unable to communicate in a meaningful and a reciprocal way.
00:46I feel unheard when I talk to you about how I'm feeling.
00:52Well, often when you do want to talk, I've got work on my mind and that's important too.
01:02So it's just a case of bad timing, that's all.
01:05Their marriage doesn't make sense to them anymore.
01:08Over the course of the coming weeks, I'd like to see if we can retrace the steps that led to this situation.
01:15See if we can work out how they got here.
01:17Next we have Luke and Stacey Warbur.
01:21I believe the fault lines don't run as deep with them.
01:24I'm grateful for how patient you are.
01:27And that you're here with me now, doing this.
01:31Because I know I'm not giving you what you need.
01:35That's so sweet, bro.
01:37On the surface, they have a loving marriage.
01:40But now can we try taking each other's hands, please?
01:45And maintaining that same eye contact.
01:48By their own admission, there are significant intimacy issues.
01:51Why can't you do this?
01:53Uh...
01:55I'm sorry.
01:57I'm sorry, sorry. Could I take five?
01:59It's okay.
02:00Of course.
02:01It's okay, Luke.
02:04Take your time.
02:06I mean...
02:07It's okay.
02:08It's all part of the process.
02:10It's Friday, it's the beginning of the weekend now.
02:13But Monday will be a big day.
02:15I have exciting plans.
02:17I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
02:23Hello.
02:24Darling.
02:26Wine's good.
02:29This looks nice, doesn't it?
02:30Yeah.
02:31Hi, everyone. Hi.
02:33I just wanted to say thank you very much for all your hard work
02:37and your commitment this week.
02:39You should be very proud of yourselves.
02:41There's more for us to do next week.
02:44But for now, enjoy your evening.
02:49Right, bon appetit.
02:51Cheers, everyone.
02:52Cheers.
02:55Cheers.
02:56Cheers.
02:57Wow.
02:58Just breathe.
03:05I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:10Every word, every utterance.
03:12I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:23Every word, every utterance.
03:26She pounces on it like a wild animal.
03:28Yeah, she certainly has a way with her words, your missus.
03:33I thought you'd never ask.
03:36It's only duty-free.
03:40That's Kira's stuff.
03:42Can't still be swimming, can she?
03:44That's Kira's stuff.
03:46That's Kira's stuff.
03:48Kira's stuff.
03:50Kira's stuff.
03:53Kira's stuff.
03:55Kira's stuff.
03:56Kira's stuff.
03:58Kira's stuff.
03:59Kira's stuff.
04:00Kira's stuff.
04:02Kira's stuff.
04:03Kira's stuff.
05:05Crime scene.
05:07Inspector, um, I don't think you should wear that to the crime scene.
05:11Why not?
05:12Because it's got I heart St. Marie on the front of it.
05:18Hmm?
05:20Still haven't gotten your clothes back then.
05:22I must have left 50 messages for Solomon.
05:25This is the only shirt he didn't take.
05:26But I've got a mate from the Met to call in a favour, and I've got him to triangulate his phone for me.
05:31Yeah, that's a very good use of their resources.
05:34Hey, listen.
05:35He stole from me, and that is a crime.
05:40Inspector, I just think you should take the hat off.
05:43Yeah, all right.
05:53Victim is Kira Mayhew.
05:5542 years old, fully qualified clinical therapist.
05:59Ran a couple's retreat here.
06:01Cars of death looks like a drowning.
06:03Went for a swim at 7 o'clock yesterday evening, and at 9 o'clock, two fishermen came across a body about 100 metres out, directly opposite this spot.
06:12They watched over the body until the paramedics arrived.
06:15Who else was here last night?
06:17About six people in total, four residents, two staff, the chef and the waitress.
06:22There's some bruising around her neck and shoulders.
06:25Looks like finger marks.
06:26Paramedics say they're recent, more likely from someone forcing her down under the water.
06:31They reckon it's murder, that's why they called us.
06:34So what?
06:35She swam out to sea, and somebody was with her and did this.
06:39Or maybe somebody was waiting for her out there on a boat.
06:41Inspector, what would you say if I told you I just found a bingo ball at a crime scene?
06:47I'd say, have you actually found a bingo ball at the crime scene?
06:51And I would say yes.
06:52Yes, I did find a bingo ball at the crime scene.
06:5613.
06:57Unlucky for some.
07:00I mean, it probably doesn't have much to do with Kira May, who's murdered, all right?
07:05We don't know yet.
07:06Let's bag it.
07:07Oh, okay.
07:08The bingo ball's officially evidenced now.
07:10Bagging the bingo ball.
07:12All right.
07:13Sergeant Fletcher, you talk to the staff.
07:15Officer Rose, see if there's any security cameras in the place.
07:19And DS Thomas, let's talk to the guests.
07:21There.
07:22Oh.
07:23I'll keep holding the back.
07:28I'm sorry, did you just say murder?
07:30Well, I thought it was an accident.
07:32Well, it wasn't.
07:33So we need to ask you where you all were between the hours of seven and nine last night.
07:37Are you saying we're suspects?
07:38When did you last see Kira Mayhew?
07:40Before dinner, we were having some aperitifs and she came and told us to have a nice night.
07:44Enjoy your evening.
07:48What time was that?
07:50Just before seven.
07:51She went for a swim and didn't see her again until she was...
07:55Was, um...
07:56Dead.
07:59Just say it.
08:00And was that a regular thing, her going for a swim at that time?
08:06Seemed to be, like, most evenings.
08:08Kira said it was her own therapy.
08:11Getting into the sea after a long day, she found it, uh, restorative.
08:15And during the two hours between you seeing her and her body being found, you were...
08:20We were all together having dinner.
08:25Look, it wasn't one of us, okay?
08:28Nobody told us that we were going to be grilled like this.
08:30None of us have even been to bed.
08:32And I took a sleeping pill.
08:37Don't apologise for me, Alistair.
08:39You know I hate it when you do that.
08:40Sorry, dear.
08:41And don't call me dear, either.
08:43No, of course not.
08:44Sorry for God.
08:46Okay.
08:47Well, if you think of anything, let us know.
08:54God help us.
09:01I spoke with the staff who can alibi each other for the time of the murder.
09:05They were preparing dinner between 7 and 9.
09:09You're Tinky listening?
09:10I'm listening.
09:11Just checking, sir.
09:12What did they say about the victim?
09:14Well, that she was a decent boss.
09:15Always paid them on time.
09:17Was friendly.
09:18Any idea it'd want to harm her?
09:19No.
09:20They reckon she didn't really know anyone here.
09:22Never saw her go out much.
09:24Kept herself to herself.
09:26I checked her phone.
09:27All her texts and all her emails, work-related.
09:30Apart from her mum back in England.
09:32How's she doing?
09:34Not great.
09:35We said we'd speak tomorrow when she might be a little bit calmer.
09:38I found this.
09:42Date and time is yesterday.
09:445.52 in the afternoon.
09:48That's just over an hour before her swim.
09:58It's the weekend now, but Monday will be a big day.
10:02I have exciting plans, and I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
10:06My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
10:17If I can draw out the truth, the fallout would be truly devastating.
10:26And only a couple of hours later, she's been murdered.
10:28You're thinking one of the guests here did it?
10:32I'm thinking maybe one of them did.
10:36On one hand, all the four guests were having dinner together at the time of Kira Mayhew's murder.
10:42Oh, look.
10:44There are only two cameras in the resort.
10:46Just before 7 o'clock, Kira Mayhew goes for a swim.
10:49But on the other hand, all the guests leave the table once during the evening.
10:54So, in theory, it could have been any one of them.
10:56All right, um, now here, at 18 minutes past 7, Mr. Hartnell goes to his bedroom to get his glasses.
11:05And in here, 7.46, Stacey Wabba goes to the bathroom to check her makeup.
11:11And at 8.03, Mrs. Hartnell goes to grab her shawl.
11:16And after that, at 8.30, Luke Wabba goes to his bedroom to get a bottle of rum.
11:21So, each of them had opportunity to kill the victim during the dinner?
11:26Except, on the other hand, no one leaves the table for more than two to three minutes.
11:33And they all returned dry as a bone.
11:36Okay, so how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table, run down to the beach,
11:41get themselves somehow out to see 100 meters, drown Kira Mayhew...
11:45Then come all the way back, dry off, before returning to the table in less than a few minutes.
11:52Well, that's just not possible.
11:56All right, Sebastian. I'll read the victim's notebook.
12:11You make us start listening to these tapes.
12:13Focus on the ones recorded since the four suspects arrived.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Oh, these tapes are teeny-tiny.
12:20Look, they make me look like a giant.
12:22Says the giants.
12:23So, printed the victim's schedule the day of her murder.
12:28Trust exercises in the morning. Sounds fun.
12:32Lunch, followed by one-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacey Walbert, then Alistair Hartnell.
12:38Inspector, I came to check in on the murder case.
12:42The minister gets nervous when one of our resorts is hit by a crime.
12:46I'd like to reassure her it's in hand.
12:51Yes, sir.
12:52We're currently working on the basis that one of the four residents did it.
12:56We just need to work out which one it was and how they did it.
13:00And why.
13:01So, pretty much everything.
13:06You look smart, sir.
13:09Going somewhere nice?
13:10Yacht Club.
13:12Lobster night.
13:12Lobster night, eh?
13:18That's why you're looking so snappy.
13:22You know, it's snappy.
13:24Like, claws.
13:26No, no, no.
13:27Lobster claws.
13:27I get the joke, Inspector.
13:29I just didn't find it very funny.
13:35Enjoy your evenings?
13:36You too, sir.
13:37Snappy.
13:38Like claws, you know.
13:38No, I need to get this.
13:45Hello, mate.
13:48Excuse me, Commissioner.
13:52Anton Bousset.
13:55How long has it been since we last...
13:57Crossed paths?
13:59Or were you going to say crossed swords?
14:01I hadn't decided before you got me off.
14:06How can I help you, Mr. Bousset?
14:08Anton, please.
14:10We're going to publish an article about you, Commissioner.
14:13And I want to give you the right to respond.
14:17Here is a draft copy of the piece.
14:22Let me know when you're ready to talk.
14:25Inspector, that was your contact at the Met, wasn't it?
14:32You know where Solomon is?
14:34Palm Beach Hotel.
14:35I'm coming with you.
14:36It's something I could easily live without.
14:57But once you have your own private jet, it's hard to give that up, you know?
15:00I love it, ladies.
15:05It's a fun night, right?
15:10Solomon.
15:12Merlin!
15:13Oh!
15:14I'm just seeing you here, man.
15:16I was just talking about you.
15:17Come, come, come, come, come, come.
15:19Meet Tashel and Tashana.
15:22This is my brother, would you believe?
15:24Merlin!
15:25We're half brothers.
15:26Where's my stuff?
15:27You stole from me and I want my things back.
15:29I never stole anything.
15:31He gets confused sometimes.
15:33Had a bump to his head a few years back.
15:34Solomon!
15:36I'm not joking around.
15:38You get me my things now or I arrest you.
15:40It's your choice.
15:42Okay, man.
15:44I understand.
15:45Let me just...
15:47Oh, God!
15:54Sir, are you okay?
15:55I'm fine.
15:56Come and get him!
15:59Woo!
16:21They can have assaulting a police officer to theft and breaking and entering.
16:24Merlin, my brother, please don't do this to me.
16:28I'm sorry, all right?
16:30I just...
16:30I really needed the money.
16:33I'm in debt.
16:35And it's to the kind of person you don't much want to be in debt to.
16:40I'm sorry I let you down.
16:41I just...
16:43I didn't know what else to do.
16:45I just need my stuff back, sir.
16:4924 hours.
16:52Otherwise, I'm pressing charges.
16:53Do you understand?
16:55Appreciate it, ma'am.
16:56So, we dusted the bingo ball for prints, sir, like you requested, but got nothing from it.
17:17Oh, well, worth a try, eh?
17:21Right.
17:22What else we got?
17:23We've done background on both couples.
17:27The Hartnells live in Islington in London.
17:30He's a barrister.
17:31She runs a luxury interior design business.
17:34Ah, very Islington.
17:35They did a brief spell of grief counselling with another therapist shortly after their daughter died.
17:41She was only 17.
17:43It seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
17:47What about the Warbers?
17:49Also live in London.
17:51Luke works in finance, earns well.
17:54Has been married to Stacey for three years.
17:56I've been reading the victim's notes on both couples.
17:59She records a lot after her sessions with them, especially on the dictaphone.
18:04But it's okay.
18:05Officer Rose is working on it.
18:07Yes.
18:08Yes, I am.
18:09I am totally on top of it.
18:11So, don't you worry, Inspector.
18:13It seems the Warbers came out here because they've been having intimacy issues.
18:20It's been 18 months since they were last intimate with each other.
18:25When you say intimate, you mean intimate?
18:28Yes.
18:29And according to the notes, the issue is entirely on Luke's side.
18:33And in one of their last sessions, Miss Mayhew got him to admit why he was like this.
18:40Go on.
18:4118 months ago, Luke was unfaithful.
18:44He had a one-night thing.
18:45Naughty, naughty boy.
18:47Mm-hmm.
18:48With him wife's sister.
18:50Cha-cha.
18:51Oh, sorry, what?
18:53Mm-hmm.
18:54And ever since, he's been wracked with guilt and shame.
18:56Why?
18:57He's been a busy, busy man.
18:59I mean, that explains why he can't do the business.
19:02Mm-hmm.
19:03Now, Kira told him that he needs to confront it, that he can't ignore it anymore.
19:11She was suggesting he tell Stacey.
19:13I think she knew their marriage couldn't move forward based on a betrayal like that.
19:18Is that what Kira Mayhew was referring to when she said...
19:22My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
19:26So Luke killed her to silence her?
19:30Stop the truth coming out?
19:36It's a cliche, isn't it?
19:38Saying something's the biggest mistake of your life.
19:41How did it happen?
19:42Oh, I don't know.
19:43I just...
19:44People flirt, you know?
19:48With Stacey, we go for a night out and the blokes swarm in.
19:52I mean, you've seen her.
19:53She's gorgeous.
19:54She could have anyone if she wanted.
19:57And what happened with me and Shel, her sister, it felt like I was...
20:02Like I was proving myself that I've still got it too, you know?
20:06But something in you must have wanted to come clean.
20:09Because you admitted it to Kira Mayhew.
20:11I thought she'd help.
20:12In what way?
20:14Obsolve me of the guilt if I opened up.
20:17I think that's a priest you're after.
20:19But all she said was that the marriage couldn't survive if it was built on a betrayal like that.
20:25She was normally so calm and measured, but with that...
20:27It really bothered her.
20:31Like she wasn't going to let it go.
20:34And that's what worried you.
20:36Panicked you that she would tell Stacey herself.
20:39And then you'd lose your gorgeous wife completely.
20:41But you weren't going to let that happen.
20:43And that is why you murdered Kira Mayhew.
20:45No.
20:46No.
20:47That's why I've come to you.
20:48Because I know what it looks like.
20:51But it wasn't me who killed her.
20:54I swear to you.
20:58All right.
21:00That's all for now.
21:01What a moron.
21:17Sir?
21:22Inspector.
21:24Postmortem's in.
21:25Confirms what we thought.
21:27Water in the victim's lungs.
21:29Confirms she died due to drowning.
21:31Finger marks on her shoulders and neck suggest she was forced under the water.
21:37But how did the killer manage to do it?
21:39To leave from the dinner table here, run down to the beach, drown Kira, then get back to the dinner table, seemingly with not a spot of water on them.
21:49And in just a few minutes.
21:51And how does this figure into all of this?
21:53Why was it at our crime scene?
21:55You do know things get washed up on beaches all the time.
22:00Yeah.
22:00But a bingo ball?
22:04Officer Rose.
22:07Officer Rose.
22:10Officer Rose.
22:12Huh?
22:13Have you made any progress with the tapes yet?
22:15No progress as such.
22:17But I assure you, when I get something, you'll be the first to know.
22:20Inspector, I just spoke with the victim's mum, Sandra.
22:24Go on.
22:24To this day, her mum doesn't know why Kira left the UK.
22:29She didn't just want a change of scene?
22:31No.
22:31It was totally out of the blue.
22:34Overnight, Kira left her fiancé.
22:35Announced that she was setting up a practice abroad, never even kept in touch with any of her friends.
22:41So it got me thinking.
22:43Could Kira Mayhew's murder be connected to something that happened back in the UK?
22:46Also, sir, Kira's mum spoke with her just before that swim, while she was heading down to the beach.
22:58And she's...
23:03Officer Rose, see what's going on out there, will you?
23:10Anyway.
23:11She said Kira seemed distracted.
23:15Distant, even.
23:16Her mum said it was like she wasn't even present.
23:19Inspector.
23:21Some big-headed brother in our sports car is asking for you.
23:24So, you got my stuff, then?
23:36Not in a physical sense, no.
23:39What's that supposed to mean?
23:40Been a busy day.
23:41Bit of business here, bit of business there.
23:43Always somewhere I got to be in Salomon land.
23:48But, I know who has your thing, so...
23:53Jump in.
23:54And let's go get them.
24:04So this is where all my stuff is.
24:06Nice.
24:08It's Myrta Chastenets, please.
24:10You ever come across her?
24:11No.
24:12Funnily enough.
24:13She's the kind of person you go to if you have something to sell it, maybe other people, maybe less...
24:17So she fenced your stolen goods?
24:19It's not for me to put a label on what...
24:21So that's a yes.
24:22We'll have you reunited with your stuff in no time.
24:26She's a very amenable woman.
24:30Who is it?
24:31Myrta, it's Salomon Clark, remember me?
24:34Got my brother here with me.
24:36It was his stuff I sold you, and...
24:39We were wondering if we could get it back.
24:41No!
24:42No, clear off!
24:43Myrta!
24:44Myrta, honey!
24:46Don't you honey me, monster!
24:48She's a lot more vexed than I remember her being before.
24:50Myrtle, I'm going to cut to the chase.

24:56Myrtle!
24:59Myrtle!
25:03Think she's thinking about it.
25:09What the...
25:10What's she do that for?
25:12What is this stuff?
25:15It's in my eyes!
25:17It's burning!
25:18Hot sauce.
25:18Why'd she pull hot sauce over me?
25:21I don't know, man.
25:22But she got to admit.
25:24Kind of funny.
25:29Myrtle, no, what are you playing at?
25:31How much hot sauce has she got?
25:32Why has she got so much of it?
25:33I think it's some bullet teeth she got going on.
25:34If you first not sent your packet,
25:36then I will set Tiberius on you.
25:38Who's Tiberius?
25:41Feels like we come at a bad time.
25:43Maybe we should come back another day.
25:48They're threatening to publish this article.
25:53Doesn't hold back, does it?
25:56After everything I've done for this, I learn.
26:00This is the thanks I receive.
26:03And the fact that Anton Bucetti is sharpening the knives
26:06is of no surprise to me.
26:10You and he have history?
26:12Because I have no respect for his gossip-mongering rag.
26:16This isn't journalism.
26:18This is attention-running rhetoric.
26:25What?
26:29This island petitioned to get you your job back.
26:33And you walked away without any explanation,
26:36like you didn't care.
26:37And now, months later,
26:39you come back as if nothing happened.
26:42I do care.
26:45You know that.
26:46But others don't.
26:49All they know
26:50is that their commissioner of police
26:53abandoned them.
26:55It's up to you to change their minds.
26:59Oh, my eyes won't stop singing, man.
27:02Tell me about it.
27:03The sun should go down into my trousers.
27:05I'm telling you, Mervyn.
27:10There's hot sauce in places.
27:11Hot sauce is not supposed to go, Mervyn, man.
27:21That's some mighty fiery sauce Mervyn's been cooking up.
27:24I mean, look at us.
27:26We're covered in the stuff.
27:28Like a couple of chicken wings.
27:30You're a liability, Saul.
27:50You know that.
27:53My life has been turned upside down since you came into it.
27:56Yeah, I kind of have that effect.
28:01I can't live like that, man.
28:06I'm a detective inspector.
28:08Do you understand that?
28:12And I need my clothes back.
28:14And I need to not be chasing around after you.
28:17This is not how I...
28:22I'm sorry, Mervyn.
28:31I'm sorry.
28:50I'm sorry.
28:52Oh, hey, Sarge.
29:12Yeah, right there.
29:13Are you saying both?
29:14Yeah, just, um, yeah.
29:16What are you doing here?
29:18Been having drinks with a friend from Jamaica.
29:20I was just on my way home.
29:22And I see the lights are on.
29:23And I realise Officer Rose is working late.
29:26Why is Officer Rose working late?
29:29I'm asking myself.
29:30Yeah, just, um, going through these tapes.
29:35Still.
29:36Still on these tapes.
29:40And which one you on now, then?
29:42Tape...
29:43Tape number two.
29:46Two? Tape two?
29:47Is that all?
29:48I'm sorry, Sarge.
29:49It's just every time I start listening...
29:51My mind just wanders somewhere else.
29:54Then I start thinking about other things.
29:56So then I rewind the tape to the beginning.
29:59But then the same thing happens all over again.
30:02It's...
30:02It's just...
30:06My brain, you know?
30:10Can get a bit fidgety sometimes.
30:12Like, I know what I'm meant to be doing.
30:15And I intentionally try to do it.
30:17But my mind just does its own a thing.
30:19I just want to finish this.
30:27Hmm.
30:28Alright.
30:30How about...
30:32We go through this together.
30:34You and me.
30:36You sure, Sarge?
30:37I know.
30:39If it was me here needing assistance...
30:42You would do exactly the same thing.
30:44Right?
30:47No.
30:50I'm just joking.
30:51Of course I would.
30:51No question.
30:53So there you go, then.
30:56Alright.
30:57Let's do this thing.
31:02My boy.
31:03So, you have a good time with your friend?
31:08Oh, it was cool, you know.
31:09Yeah?
31:10Nice to hear all the gossip going on back in Kingston.
31:15You know, you never did tell me why you left Jamaica.
31:24I left.
31:26Because of a guy I was seeing.
31:29Things got complicated.
31:32Between us.
31:34And, um...
31:36I just realised the best thing that I could do...
31:41Was just to turn and walk away.
31:46Hmm.
31:46Hmm.
31:47Hmm.
32:09Hmm.
32:15Hmm.
32:15Hmm.
32:16good morning isaac good morning good morning clarence good morning ah how was the catch this
32:33morning wow so soon so so let me look let me look let me see okay i i want that one there
32:40nothing good morning sarge morning inspector i'm here we got your message
33:04so i was doing a bit of nosing around the old place and uh bingo literally
33:09oh so that's where it came from yeah apparently this place used to be a resort for the over 60s
33:15so this must have been here since then okay so how do you explain one of those bingo balls ending up
33:21on the same beach as our crime scene well it didn't magic itself there did it somebody must have taken
33:27it from this so we're gonna have to dust it for prints i could do that for you sir oh nice one
33:33one how about you two you got something so the tapes care of me who recorded over the last week
33:41there was 10 hours of it and throughout it all when she talks about alistair and margot hartnell
33:47she doesn't once mention they lost their daughter she was only 17. seems their marriage has been
33:53struggling ever since which was kind of odd right so we did some digging their daughter charlotte was
34:02killed in a car accident a hit and run but a person who did it was never found all that was known was
34:09that it was a female driver only the hit and run happened outside the family home in islington
34:16kira mayhew's practice was just over a mile away also it happened on the first of april 2021 and kira may
34:25who she moved over here six weeks later is it possible that that's what it was kira was behind a car
34:33accident that's good work a pair of you well done you can get that dusted and uh we're going to talk to
34:41the heart knows we didn't come here because we suspected kira mayhew was a woman who killed our
34:52daughter we came in a last ditch attempt to save our marriage truly we did then why did you never
34:59mention to miss mayhew the fact that you lost your daughter by your own admission your relationship
35:05problem started five years ago at the same time we didn't talk about it with her because we never
35:14talk about it it's easier if we don't margot tries bless her or used to you know to try to get me to
35:20open up but i just can't bear it i don't want to lose her i want to fix our marriage but i can't if i
35:32have to churn all that up again i'm just not strong enough it's all right my love
35:50if the hartnalls didn't come here for revenge and the question still remains why did kira mayhew leave
35:55london five years ago what happened to make us suddenly up sticks and move to the other side of
35:59the world please give me a call when you get this just just let me know you're okay
36:09so it's stacy i think she's had a meltdown i haven't seen her since yesterday
36:17i think she knew i think kira told her about me and her sister
36:19mishnah everything all right we'll look into it
36:33i saw she was upset crying so i went over as soon as she said she was staying at the conference
36:48retreat i called you couldn't get much from her except she didn't want me to phone her husband
36:58yeah well that's hardly surprising uh sir um maybe i should take this one
37:11everyone knows don't they only else may i
37:30can you tell me when you found out mrs warburg
37:33Thursday night I went to get some air on the beach and Kira was there she'd been drinking
37:42she's not seen it like that she'd always been so composed she could hardly stand up so I helped her
37:49back to her bungalow she was sort of rambling talking about some guy who had betrayed her
37:55back in England before she moved here I'd been cheating on her I got her home and put her on
38:01the couch and she looked me in the eyes and spoke to me like it really mattered don't be like me
38:09don't Stacy there was just something in the way she'd said it then I knew she'd had a one-to-one
38:16session with Luke that day and maybe whatever he'd said it like triggered her reminded her of
38:22her own betrayal that's why she was drunk so when she was asleep I saw her notebook
38:31I felt sick couldn't even process it couldn't even breathe so I just pretended I didn't know
38:43Stacy you've been through a lot in the last couple of days if you were in denial if Kira was pressing
38:54you to confront what you'd know no I didn't I admit there was all this pent-up stuff inside me but I
39:03didn't kill Kira I swear
39:05all right well thank you for talking with me Mr Shaw what the ex-boyfriend have to say for himself
39:20the ex-fiancé their fear he was having had been going on for three whole years behind Kira's back
39:27when she found out wow that must have flawed her I mean her job is to provide relationship advice
39:33and all the time she was blind to a three-year-long deception explains why she suddenly opt and left for
39:39another country and why Luke's betrayal triggered her so much and why she had one or three over the
39:45limit but it still doesn't explain why she was murdered three nights ago Inspector Diaz Tomas I think we got
39:53sign
40:01Patrick Campbell therapist consultation fee hundred and fifty dollars he's based in Guadalupe specializes in
40:10hypnotherapy Kira called him Friday afternoon asking for advice he offered to share their
40:16conversation as part of our investigation on what she said a client of hers Margot Hartnell had just
40:24opened up to her and was struggling with the memory of an event of her recent past because she had
40:29completely blocked it out which apparently is not uncommon for people dealing with traumatic experiences
40:33experiences and according to mr. combo it's a pretty unorthodox approach for Kira to resort to
40:39hypnotherapy so early on in the process but she was convinced it was necessary so this forgotten memory
40:46do we know what is to do with the night their daughter was killed in a hit and run five years ago
40:51Mrs Hartnell does not remember a thing about it
40:55but ever since she's been growing this feeling of guilt you know like maybe she might have done
41:03something bad that night wait you don't mean all that was known was that it was a female driver
41:14Mrs Hartnell wanted it all off the record that's why there was nothing in her notes or recordings
41:20right we need to talk to Mrs Hartnell and that therapist we need him here sharpish come on
41:27well at first it was just guilt I felt our grief counselor said it was normal as a parent to feel
41:35a sense of responsibility look whatever I did five years ago I want the truth to come out if you think I
41:42killed Kira Mayhew because I wanted to stop that happening you're wrong she arranged for me to have
41:48hypnotherapy today well that can still happen Mrs Hartnell we've arranged for a hypnotherapist to speak
41:55with you if you feel you're able inspector if you wouldn't mind going with sergeant Fletcher yeah
42:03just got back from dusting off the bingo ball machine for prints unfortunately nothing
42:33so what's up with inspector am I right inspector everything all right sir you've got something
42:42sir what are you doing it's a little experiment the bingo balls float
43:03okay so why take it out of the bingo ball cage thingy and bring it to the sea to the water's edge
43:20was it just to see if it floats or maybe it's to see where it goes
43:27in which case so how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table run down to the beach
43:38somehow get themselves 100 meters out to sea drown Kira Mayhew none of them left the table for more
43:44than two to three minutes at a time and was that a regular thing are going for a swim at that time
43:50like most evenings she said Kira seemed distracted
43:54of course that's why you were there you little beauty
44:04okay I need to speak to a fisherman or an oceanographer ologist type of person basically
44:13anyone who knows the currents in this bay DS Thomas I need a toxicology report done on Kira Mayhew
44:18officer Rose I need you to collect some evidence from her office but you know who did it I do and I know how they managed to
44:27drown Kira Mayhew 100 meters out to sea without even stepping a foot in the water come on
44:37for those wondering why Margot Hartnell isn't here with us it's because she's currently with a
44:42hypnotherapist doing what she was always supposed to be doing today trying to recover a buried
44:48memory of what really happened five years ago the night her daughter died why am I telling you
44:55this because Margot's therapy sessions were meant to be conducted by Kira Mayhew until somebody tried
45:03to stop the truth from coming out by murdering her mr. Hartnell
45:08me I did no such thing oh oh but you did I know you did but how I was at dinner when it happened on dry
45:21bloody land yeah you were which is why it was so clever of you but now that I've got a better understanding
45:27of what's gone on I believe you created a small window of opportunity in which to commit murder but
45:34not a hundred meters out at sea you drowned Kira Mayhew right outside your own bungalow because from the
45:43very start of this case we've worked on the assumption that as miss Mayhew's body was discovered
45:48100 meters out at sea in a straight line from where she swam that's where she was drowned but what if
45:56actually when miss Mayhew went for her evening dip she preferred to swim along the shore rather than out
46:04from it that would mean she'd have to swim past your bungalow farther along the beach and that would give you
46:12opportunity to commit murder but when I told you I was at dinner when it happened yeah we have security
46:22camera footage that shows you leaving the dinner table to get your glasses at 18 minutes past seven
46:28I was gone what a couple of minutes three minutes at the most you're not seriously suggesting I was able
46:35to physically drown a fit and healthy woman in that time without getting soaked in water yeah sounds
46:41impossible right but I don't think miss Mayhew was as fit and healthy as she might normally be I
46:48believe you sedated her we know that your wife uses sleeping pills none of us been to bed I took a
46:57sleeping pill and we also know that you are the last person to have a one-to-one session with miss
47:03Mayhew that day at 5 p.m. one-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacy Warbur then Alistair Hartnell
47:10and while there we believe you spiked her drink when she wasn't looking we didn't believe Kira was
47:22drugged because the finger marks on her neck suggested she was held down by force and drowned we're awaiting
47:27the toxicology report and results from the glass Kira drank from and have no doubt we'll get confirmation
47:34that there were significant traces of sleeping pills in her system and so while miss Mayhew was swimming
47:42she suddenly felt drowsy and swam ashore when you returned to your bungalow under the pretense of
47:51getting your glasses you rang down to the beach where miss Mayhew was lying unconscious on the sand
47:56and then you did two things first you grabbed her neck and shoulders making sure to leave bruises so
48:05it would look like someone had strangled her and forced her under the water before moving her into
48:12the sea for her to be carried away making sure that she was facedown so they're still unconscious her lungs
48:19would fill with water it took less than a minute all you had to do now was hurry back to the dinner
48:27table and leave Kira to drown and let the sea do the rest of the work for you we checked with a local
48:36oceanologist at the university and the current in this bay moves in a north westerly direction which
48:43means it would have carried miss Mayhew's body diagonally taking her from your bungalow here to
48:51where her body was discovered here and with her clothes being left on the beach here we'd all assume
48:58she swam in a straight line now you had no idea where the currents would take Kira's body so you had to
49:07test it first didn't you you went and found this and you threw it into the sea to observe which route
49:16it took which was conveniently in a north westerly direction from your bungalow directly to where Kira
49:21began her nightly swim and that's when your plan finally came together Kira's body was found still at
49:28sea not long after she drowned but this ball left overnight ended up washing up ashore and that
49:36was your undoing but why would you do this to her because he didn't want Kira to help his wife
49:43remember remember well remember what what he did I remember Alistair I remember all of it
49:58all the horror of it you rushing in and telling me someone had hurt a little girl I remember the
50:11the ambulance and the police and the shock and pain and I remember you coming in and holding me in tears shaking
50:26both of us heartbroken and I remember in that moment
50:36the smell of alcohol on your breath
50:41and I remember coming back inside
50:47and seeing you
50:57I checked the original case file mr. Hartnell and the phone call to the police in which the hit-and-run
51:04driver was described as female came from an anonymous caller that was you
51:11wasn't it trying to direct suspicion away from yourself
51:14I would have lost everything
51:24Alistair Hartnell I'm arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Kira Mayhew you didn't have to say
51:38anything but it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned something you later reliant in call
51:43I never want to see you ever again
51:59well well well well good evening to you both good evening katherine we spoke at Marion Edwards charity barbecue I think I don't remember I certainly enjoyed our little chat
52:17Good evening to you both.
52:19Good evening.
52:20Catherine, we spoke at Marion Edwards' charity barbecue, I think.
52:25I don't remember.
52:26I certainly enjoyed our little chat.
52:31Commissioner, can I get you a rub?
52:32That won't be necessary. This won't take that long.
52:35I think I'll have one, Catherine, if you wouldn't mind.
52:40I appreciate you giving me an advance copy of the article.
52:44Here is my written statement in response.
52:50Saying?
52:52I agree with every single word you've written.
52:59Sorry?
52:59After receiving some sage advice from my good friend here,
53:04as I say in my statement,
53:06it hurt to think that the bond I had forged with this island had been broken.
53:13But the circumstances were of my own making.
53:16So, I will be the one to fix it.
53:20And how will you do that?
53:21As of tomorrow, I will be commencing an initiative with my team.
53:26And with a little help from the island's mayor.
53:29An initiative to strengthen our relationship with the community.
53:34So, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do.
53:39Good evening.
53:42Well, he just killed my article, didn't he?
53:48With one single shot.
53:51I think he maybe just has.
53:56Enjoy your evening.
53:58Good evening.

54:26Good evening.
54:27Sorry, mate. That's my hat.
54:33Hey, so, look, I just got home and I saw you brought all my stuff back.
55:00Oh, you know, work the old Salomon Clark magic.
55:04Yeah, well, I just wanted to say thank you.
55:07Did you have to give Myrtle their money back?
55:09I mean, you're not in debt still, are you?
55:11Ah, don't worry yourself.
55:13Anyway, man, got to get the boat back to Antigua.
55:16Got some business over there that needs attendant.
55:19Of course you have.
55:20I mean, there's always something going on in Salomon land, right?
55:23You said it.
55:25Look, what about us now?
55:33I mean, what do we do next?
55:37I don't know, man.
55:39Like you said, I am troubled.
55:41A detective doesn't need that in his life.
55:44So, I didn't mean...
55:45Maybe I shouldn't have said that.
55:48I understand.
55:49No disrespect to you, bro, but...
55:51Ain't much good to me having a police officer around.
55:54Got a reputation to keep.
55:56Yeah, yeah, no, I...
55:58Totally understand.
56:00Look, man.
56:03We tried this and...
56:05Maybe it just wasn't meant to be, you know?
56:08Look after yourself, brother.
56:10Yeah, you too.
56:11Look, Solomon!
56:12I...
56:13Yeah!
56:16Yeah!
56:19Yeah!
56:20Yeah!
56:22Hey!

56:33No!
56:34No!
56:35No!
56:36No!
56:37No!
56:38No!
56:39Hello, neighbor. Quiet morning.
56:59Was.
57:00Henry Ashby. Moved to St. Marie ten years ago.
57:03Henry was definitely mixed up in something murky.
57:05The victim's copy of this book was missing from his bookshelf.
57:08So, where is it?
57:09I need to reassure you that this island still matters to me.
57:15Why did the detective not bother showing up?
57:17Why was your moped seen outside the victim's villa up in the hills?
57:21Did you ever catch them, Inspector? I'd sleep much better knowing you did.
57:24It wasn't me!
