00:00Is there anything that the Ministry of Civil Aviation can do because if you are saying that there is a lot of time required for the training, then how do we produce these pilots?
00:09Because the air traffic is increasing day by day, we need pilots, we need captains to take command. How do we then tackle this issue?
00:18Today, we are awfully short of training facilities in India. Do you know where we train our cadet pilots in America, in New Zealand, in South Africa? I don't know where all we train. We don't have training infrastructure.
00:37We have not, which is the other channel I was saying, our aspirations to fly everyone, to the way our infrastructure needs to catch up, they are not a Venn diagram which is crossing each other.
00:55Our airport is woefully short. Now, have you been to Charles de Gaulle? Charles de Gaulle, if you go, it appears extremely empty most of the time.
01:05Whereas, maximum aeroplanes take takeoff and land in Charles de Gaulle, same is the case with Frankfurt.
01:11Why do they appear empty? Because they have been made to absorb a shock of, say, 10, 20, 50, 100 aeroplanes not taking off or not landing at all.
01:23You're getting the point. So, when you had this volcano eruption, it was done very beautifully because the infrastructure was adequate to take the shock.
01:33And they know when shock comes is the time they will be tested. In a day-to-day operation, it appears absolutely empty.
01:40It is like as if two, three people in front of you, two, three people behind you in a kilometer of distance.
01:44So, that is how the infrastructure needs to be in every airport. And that is, again, a mathematical model is made to find out how big the airport needs to be and based on the growth potential.
01:58And where do they see themselves? Five or ten years down the road. That has not happened. Similar cases with training. We are training everywhere else. Our FTOs need to catch up. That has not happened.
02:11For that to happen, everyone keeps pointing finger at DGCA. DGCA is woefully short of manpower. They are working on the same manpower 30 years before, even today.
02:23They don't have incremented manpower. Now, any government organization increasing manpower requires carder change. Carder change requires justification which needs to be passed on the floor of the parliament.
02:34How many people know this? So, it has to be taken down to the parliament level. You see the, you know, the snowballing effect it has to increase the number of people.
02:44And after going to the parliament, there is no guarantee you will get an increment in people. You may ask for 60, you may get another additional five or ten.
