Transcript
00:00oh sure we're counting down the hours until the super bowl but before that a little bit of a
00:06distraction because a global sporting event begins today the olympic usa usa usa all right
00:20opening ceremony of the winter olympics begins at 2 p.m eastern time i kind of thought it was
00:27happening tonight me too oh yeah 2 p.m eastern time kicking off the official start of the games even
00:32though a whole bunch of sports have already started okay yeah because they're ahead of us
00:37so it would be friday night there yeah this is always the hardest part when it comes to the
00:43olympics being anywhere far away you're like well this is great i can't wait to watch curling at
00:47three in the morning i know whatever it is i know but you can stream whenever and all the things and
00:52um but i've got some interesting olympic facts okay that you'll want to know going into this
00:59this olympic games okay this is the first time that two cities have co-hosted the olympics did
01:04you know that it's in two cities nope no it's in milan and cortina so those are two cities in
01:11italy that are about 250 miles apart it's a five-hour drive oh yeah oh wow this will be the
01:19most widespread games in olympic history because the 13 venues are cover nearly 8 500 square miles
01:27of northern italy oh my gosh wow they are all over the place um yeah so at the games uh athletes
01:36compete for national olympic committees yeah or nocs do you know what those are no so those are not
01:44countries so that's why places like puerto rico and hong kong can have olympic teams okay because
01:54they're playing for national olympic committees not a country all right um there are 92 nocs
02:02representing over 2900 athletes in the olympics so you're going to see a lot of nocs yeah athletes
02:09russia and belarus will be complete competing as individual neutral athletes or ains under a neutral
02:17flag since those countries were banned over the war in ukraine okay backing up though does that mean
02:23we can start our own noc yep our own summer show knock noc yeah all right and i think we should dibs
02:31curling andy you have to do all the things that are on skis i can do the skis donnie what are you
02:35bringing to the table for our competition no um eating snow yeah i'm gonna go with bobsledding
02:41bobsled guys what do i what is it oh uh speed skating yeah there you go i think my height i think
02:49my height would factor into that all right so i want you to think about us while you're watching
02:53these sports and think about how well we might be doing or not doing all right um the u.s team
02:59is the biggest team 235 athletes on team usa wow including three alternates canada is second with
03:07211 followed by italy with 195 wow so like we have everybody about a lot um included in team usa
03:1498 returning olympians wow they've won a total of 22 gold medals yes i mean we got a pretty strong
03:23team heading in there it'll be the fifth olympic games for seven of them including lindsey vaughn
03:30uh we know she's an alpine skier um figure skater evan bates and hockey player hillary knight
03:35very interesting yes can i tell you guys a fun fact i learned about speed skating okay there is an
03:41olympian for the united states former who won a silver in speed skating and then won a silver
03:48in baseball wow isn't that just so interesting his name is eddie alvarez he won a medal yeah for the
03:56olympics in two different sports that are that two very different sports like it's one thing to be
04:01like snowboarding and skateboarding or you know what i mean or like certain types of skiing and a
04:06different type of skiing yeah this is completely different yeah isn't that neat that is really
04:10interesting so interesting yeah i love that i love knowing that but i mean when you look at when you
04:15think about professional athletes yeah um who oftentimes started in when they were young and
04:21then in school playing one sport and then kind of got plucked out to do another sport right they're
04:26just elite athletes thousand percent right which is why you don't want to be a one-trick pony p.s
04:32yeah don't have those kids throw a nine innings breaking news oh about the olympics i don't know if
04:38you've known this but lindsey vaughn she tore her acl last week okay she just completed her
04:44trial run today on a torn acl on her left knee she's supposed to compete on sunday yeah she's
04:50still gonna go she's still going yeah yeah she has a bruised meniscus torn acl she's 41 years old
04:55i what yeah that's like she i didn't see the injury i just assumed she wasn't gonna be competing
05:02she had to get airlifted out a week ago and now she's on that same knee that's dedication go go lindsey
05:09well right and it just kind of shows a the amazing care that they get oh yeah right but but also
05:15just the wherewithal like the the determination and all of that that makes them elite
