00:00One day, Edward was talking to Trevor when Douglas steamed by.
00:05He was pulling a train of heavy coal cars.
00:08Come on, Edward. Stop gossiping in the sun when there's work to be done.
00:15Later, Edward spoke to Douglas.
00:18Trevor and I are old friends, and you and he have a lot in common, too.
00:23We do, quizzed Douglas, and what would that be?
00:27Scrap, said Edward quietly.
00:30Douglas gasped.
00:31Don't mention that word. It makes me wheels wobble.
00:35It does the same to Trevor, replied Edward.
00:38He was being sent to the scrapyard, but the vicar and I saved him, and now he's really useful again.
00:44Even so, Sir Topham Hatt certainly does need another steam engine here.
00:49Aye, he does, and quickly.
00:54That night, Douglas was still working.
00:56He had taken the midnight goods train to a station at a faraway part of the island where only the diesels work.
01:03He was just shunting, ready for his return journey, when...
01:14That sounds like a steam engine, he thought.
01:17The hiss came again.
01:20Who's there?
01:21Asked Douglas.
01:22A whisper came.
01:24Are you Sir Topham Hatt's engine?
01:27Aye, I'm proud of it.
01:29Well, I'm Oliver, and I'm with my brake van towed.
01:32We've run out of coal and have no more steam.
01:34But what you're doing?
01:39Escaping.
01:40From what?
01:42Scrap.
01:44Douglas shivered.
01:47Then, he remembered Edward's story about saving Trevor.
01:52I'll be glad to help you.
01:53You'll have to look, though, as if you're ready for scrapping, I'm taking you away.
01:57Their drivers and firemen agreed to help, too.
02:01Everyone worked fast.
02:02No time to turn around.
02:07I'll run tender fast.
02:09Come on.
02:20But before they could clear the station, they were stopped.
02:26Aha, called the foreman.
02:28A great western engine and a brake van, too.
02:30You can't take these.
02:31Aye, but they're all for us, said Douglas's driver.
02:35See for yourself.
02:38The foreman looked all over Oliver.
02:43Seems in order.
02:45Right away, guard.
02:45There was a near thing.
03:03We've had worse, replied Oliver, and they forged ahead.
03:07It was daylight when their journey ended.
03:21We're home, cried Douglas.
03:23Shh, said his driver.
03:24Shh, said his driver.
03:25There are the works.
03:26We'll find a place for Oliver.
03:28Oliver said goodbye and thank you, and Douglas puffed away.
03:33The next day, Douglas told the other engines all about Oliver.
03:37Sir Topham Hatt will have to know, said James.
03:41Douglas should tell him at once, added Gordon.
03:44Well, here he is, said a voice.
03:46Now, what's this all about?
03:48Beg pardon, sir, but we do need another engine.
03:50Yes, sir, ventured Gordon.
03:53A steam engine, sir.
03:55Well, unless one is saved from scrap, there's little hope.
03:58But, sir, one has.
04:01Yes, indeed.
04:02And thanks to you, Douglas, he is now at our works.
04:05Oliver is just what we need for Duck's branch line.
04:09Everyone cheered.
04:10Now, Oliver and Toad are mended and painted in full great Western colors.
04:17Duck and Oliver are happy on their branch line.
04:20The others laughed at first and called it the Little Western.
04:24Duck and Oliver were delighted, and so the Little Western it will always be.
